The place is nicely designed... with that said,
We arrived at 5pm because that is the time stated that they open... It was my girlfriend and I and my 2 kids. They were very nice, the manager and staff. Unfortunately, for some reason, since the place is so small, they had this situation where bar seating is open, but not dining room until 6pm, which is all in one very tight room. There was no other customer there, and while we dined at the bar, only one other gentleman arrived and sat at the bar. The dining tables remained empty until after 7 pm when we left. They really should rethink their seating policy.
We ordered a $26 burger for my 13-year-old son, a $60 boneless ribeye for myself and my 11-year-old son. My friend ordered the Halibut. Halibut was overcooked and on the dry side. The burger was ordered rare and came out more medium. Our ribeye was ordered warm red (true medium rare) and came out medium. You would expect a steakhouse of that caliber would get the temps right on the 1st try... My son was so hungry he said his burger is overcooked, but he's so hungry he's going to eat it. Unfortunately, my younger son, who was also very hungry because they had only a small breakfast and no lunch, didn't get the same option. I refuse to eat an overcooked $60.00 steak and I sent it back. But then I ordered beef carpaccio, thinking it would arrive before the replacement steak, but it didn't. When the replacement steak arrived, it was very underwhelming... I don't know the proper way to describe it, but I like my steak charred a bit on the outside. This one was not charred, not crispy on the outside and pretty blah for a snake river farm cut. I don't think I would go back.
The bartender (female) was very nice and made my boys a mocktail they enjoyed. The manager was also very nice and always helpful. I just don't know how much experience they have in elevating the experience for guests. I am old school and worked as a server for many years in my youth in fine dining and it really is the difference of really understanding your customer's needs. The Manager should have considered my ordering a beef carpaccio and my replacement steak being fired and which would arrive 1st. Either explain that a rare steak wouldn't take very long and either he holds off on firing the steak so we can enjoy the beef carpaccio or suggest that I consider omitting the Appetizer. Especially with starving kids, they just should have been more accommodating with seating and the order of food items. Sorry, Foxhall just doesn't meet the price tag in execution. Hopefully they will consider my review and make the necessary adjustments.
