A Running List of New Restaurants That Opened in New York City, April 2022 | Eater NY

"I read that a new speakeasy at the Arlo Hotel is hidden behind velvet curtains and leans on midcentury-inspired drinks—large-format punch bowls and a cocktail nodding to pineapple upside down cake—while the food menu offers mushroom skewers, oysters, and cheese boards, and burlesque performances are part of the experience." - Emma Orlow

"In West Soho, Foxtail offers fun, modern craft cocktails and snacks within the Arlo Soho lobby; we love the super crispy fries and the fact that popcorn is free to every table or barstool." - Coolstuff Team

Speakeasies Make Their Not-So-Secret Return to NYC

"Essentially the lobby bar for a Soho hotel, tucked behind a velvet curtain and marked by a neon sign, this darker-than-usual hotel bar serves strong, mid-century–inspired cocktails with playful nods to dishes like ambrosia salad and pineapple upside-down cake; it’s an easy four-minute walk from the Canal Street 1 train." - Rachel Sugar, Megan Paetzhold

Have been several times and it never dissapoints . It is located in the Arlo and such a cool hidden spot. The beverage team clearly knows how to create a strong cocktail menu -- also lots of great n/a drinks. Highly recommend for a date or night out with friends

The ambience is stunning, so cozy and comfy, it makes you want to snuggle in and stay a while. The service was perfection! Brando, Arturo, and Mateo were attentive, polite, and had excellent recommendations. They really took what was already a great experience to the next level. My first drink was one of the seasonal apple cocktails (an apple gimlet that was so fresh and bright and light I could have had 5). I went with two friends and together we tried out 6 cocktails. Each was unique, well balanced, and delicious. I cannot recommend Foxtail enough and I cannot wait to go back!

Foxtail – Speakeasy Cocktail Bar in SoHo 📍 Location: 231 Hudson St (in the lobby of Arlo SoHo), NYC 🍸 Type: Mid-century glam cocktail speakeasy 💵 Price Range: $$–$$$ (Cocktails from ~$15–25) 🕒 Hours: Tue–Sat, 5 PM–12 AM; Happy Hour nightly from 10 PM–close I had such a fab night at Foxtail—this hidden gem in Arlo SoHo nails that classic-forged, mid-century cocktail lounge vibe. Think velvet curtains, moody lighting, and curated cocktails served with flair. The Guava Punch and Mexican hot chocolate cocktails were real standouts—rich, creative, and oh-so-satisfying . The service was friendly and attentive—shoutout to Alonzo and Santiago behind the bar, who mixed up some memorable drinks and helped us navigate their fun menu . We also tried their crispy oyster mushrooms—delicious snack that paired perfectly with the drinks. Hidden speakeasy? Check. Mid-century glam and cozy vibes? Check. Top-tier cocktails, no cover charge, and a playful menu of small bites? Double check. Great spot for a date, small group, or just sophisticated night out. ⸻ 👍 Quick Highlights: • Best For: Cocktail lovers craving an elegant speakeasy • Atmosphere: Stylish, intimate, vintage-meets-modern • Must-Try Drinks: Guava Punch and Mexican hot chocolate cocktails • Good Eats: Crispy oyster mushrooms for pairing • Service: Warm, expert bartenders and staff • Bonus: Free entry, no cover — ideal for spontaneous outings

My partner and I came to foxtail around 8pm without reservations and we were promptly seated at their very comfortable chairs. We originally came for the the foxy organ trio for a jazz night out (who were amazing!). We quickly realized it was not only going to be great music playing, but an amazing experience overall. The bartender came right over to us, explained the menu, and told us about their seasonal mango drinks. We ordered a Pinot noir, mango Negroni, and I asked for a highball but due to how much love and thought they put into their drinks, they were currently held up in the clarification process for their Highball drink. The bartender was understanding and so thoughtful that he wanted to make this a good experience for us so he ended up making us a mango sour free of charge. All the drinks were truly so fresh, fun, and vibrant. I don’t always love my cocktail drinks, but you can tell they go above and beyond to perfect theirs. We also got the shoestring fries which were delicious and more than plentiful. Needless to say, we would 100% go back here. We greatly enjoyed our experience!!!

This place is such a vibe! My friend and I stumbled upon this gem while searching for a good cocktail bar, and this spot popped up. It’s located inside a hotel, and once we made our way to the back, we were greeted by the fabulous Alonzo. Their energy was amazing—truly the perfect person to be a host! The bar itself was beautifully decorated for the holidays, bringing all the Christmas spirit, which is always a treat to see. Jasmine welcomed us warmly as we sat at the bar, setting the tone for a great experience. As for the menu, I loved how unique their cocktail options were—it gave me so many choices! Santiago, our bartender, was friendly, easygoing, and super attentive. The drinks he made were delicious. I especially loved the Guava Punch, a warm drink with just the right amount of sweetness. My friend ordered the Mexican hot chocolate, which was also fantastic. For food, I highly recommend the crispy oyster mushrooms—they were so good! My only gripe was the complimentary popcorn, which was a bit too salty. Granted, we still ate it, but less salt would definitely be better in the future. Overall, my friend and I had a great experience here, and I’ll definitely be back again! This version is concise, keeps your tone, and improves sentence structure. Let me know what you think!

I had an amazing experience at Foxtail, and a big part of that was thanks to our server, Gabriel. From the moment we sat down, he was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being overbearing. He knew the menu inside out and gave great recommendations—especially for drinks. Every detail was taken care of, and his timing was perfect throughout the meal. It’s rare to find service that feels both professional and personal, but Gabriel nailed it. He really elevated the whole dining experience. Highly recommend asking for him if you visit Foxtail!

A gorgeous little spot with cozy seating and sophisticated decor. I loved the cocktails, they had a cool new Fall Apple cocktail menu and they were so crisp and refreshing. The food was delicious as well. The charcuterie board was so fun to explore and had fresh honeycomb. A great place to spend the evening with friends!

Yelp
Tucked away in the Arlo hotel, Foxtail is one of my most surprising bar finds of the year. Since my fiancé and I love live shows, we went to Foxtail to catch Miss Maybell & The Jazz Age Artistes. We didn't really care that much about the bar but was pleasantly surprised by the how great their cocktail program was. Since I was feeling a bit under the weather, I ordered their holiday special hot toddy with fresh cranberries. Served in a teacup, with a stick of cinnamon and fresh cranberries, Foxtail's holiday toddy is easily one of the best toddies I have ever drank. It was so good that I was fairly tempted to order a second one but it would have gone against my rule of ordering the same thing twice. I ended up opting for the Mexican hot chocolate special with Jack instead of mezcal (normally I don't go against the menu but mezcal and I have been in a long feud). I loved that it came with marshmallows but I think small ones would have been a bit better. The smaller ones would have charred a bit nicer under their blowtorch. My fiancé's drinks were also quite well put together. Since they serve some of the drinks in teacups. I liked that they served the excess in a small glass jar on the side. It's a nice touch to know that you're getting a full sized cocktail. Despite being a hotel bar, Foxtail has exceeded all my expectations. The drinks here are excellent and very competitively priced for manhattan, I've definitely had worse drinks for a lot more. Their bartenders seemed very knowledgeable and very willing to please. I got so many refills of their popcorn after mentioning that I loved popcorn. I will definitely be coming back to Foxtails for their drinks soon!

Yelp
I came here with a party of 3 for their winter special reservation so I'm not sure if there is a separate "regular" section. The bar is inside the Arlo hotel in Soho. Once inside the hotel, you walk a bit in until you see a host who will guide you to wherever you are going. The section we were in was in full holiday mode. I thought the decorations were magical! Our waitress was super nice and knowledgeable about the drinks. They also have complimentary popcorn! They were serving drinks from both their regular and holiday menus. We all thought the drinks were very interesting and creative. The online menu (as of this review) shows the prices to be $16/cocktail but when we went recently, they were $18/cocktail. We got one drink (the one in the tea cup) but I can't remember the name! Regular menu: Pretty Rickey - so refreshing! big grapefruit flavor Smoke Show - quite the show indeed! nice smoky flavor combined with apple and bourbon flavors Pineapple upside-down cake - very sweet, almost desert-like (not the best drink we had but still good!) Holiday menu: - Tree topper: lovely bubbly drink with elderflower and a touch of sweetness. Really liked it I think some might pass on this place because it's a "hotel bar" but honestly, it was on par with other cocktail bars. I'd go again for sure!

Yelp
Stopped here after dinner and it was a cozy spot for our rather large group. Service was friendly and the cocktails were okay.

Yelp
Fantastic lounge. I went with a friend on a Thursday night. The place is very intimate. Th et had live music which was lovely. The drinks were really good. The servers were very prompt and friendly. I would recommend stopping by here if you like speakeasies.

Yelp
Great ambiance. Very nice holiday vibe. I had one cocktail and it was $20. I ordered their signature take on a margarita. It said it would have black pepper and cilantro.. and it just taste like a regular marg. Maybe not even as good as a regular marg. Very bitter. Tiny glass. Waste of my money. Service was friendly however they were unable to greet me for at least 20 minutes. I hate that I wasted 20 bucks on a meh cocktail in New York City. I expect better.

Yelp
Came for after dinner drinks on a Friday night. Their specialty cocktails were creative and interesting, and tasted great. Presentation and preparation method enhance the experience. The bar staff were welcoming, attentive, and made nice conversation. Thanks Diego and Kevin! Would come back again anytime I'm in town.

Yelp
Hands down one of my FAVE spots in NYC. Diego and Levi are the BEST - and the spicy sausage pizza is to die for.

Yelp
Foxtail is a great experience. They offer an incredible cocktail menu in a great speakeasy atmosphere. Dark but well lit, intimate but lively, all with tons of comfortable seating. Our server, Ronald, asked about our drink preferences before making some great suggestions. The cherry pop was a great after dinner drink- a little sweet, a little bitter and something you won't find anywhere else. They also special made a delicious mocktail using their pineapple foam- off menu. 10/10 would recommend, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Excellent food and love how close you can sit to the music. Great atmosphere and vibe as well. Good selection of drinks too! Loved the place. Only issue is that they limit you to an hour and a half which isn't great when the band takes a 45 minute break!

A T.

Yelp
This is a very nice upscale lounge but at the same time a relaxed venue. I went night of live performance. The band was superb. They even gave a bit of history; Pennsylvania 6-5000 was the Pennsylvania Hotel's phone number in NYC? I never knew. Very cute! Bar service was a little slow but they are all so nice. Hostess is adorable too. Oh and there is free popcorn! Mmm delicious....but no windows. Overall it was a memorable time and definitely more of a cozy date place if I had to recommend.

Yelp
I'm not one to write many reviews, however, I enjoyed my experience at Foxtail so much, I couldn't resist. To start, the atmosphere and ambiance was very impressive. I felt comfortable while in a high end establishment. Next, the service was everything I could ask for. The staff really seemed to want to take care of us. That really made the night special. Finally, the food and drinks. What can I say? They were both fantastic. I drank the Macadamia Sticky Buns, (Yes - that's a drink), and I loved it. It was both unique and delicious. I would highly recommend it. To eat, I shared some appetizers, including the Tuna Tataki and Oyster Sampler. Both were fresh and so, so good. I would definitely eat them again, although when I go back I want to try other dishes. All in all, I had a wonderful time and can honestly say, If you are looking for a great spot, with fantastic food and drinks, and service that goes above and beyond, I highly recommend Foxtail.
