A True Insider’s Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Staying in Istanbul

"Local wine expert Levon Bağış and celebrity chef Maksut Aşkar are behind Foxy, an always-packed wine bar in the fashionable Nişantaşı neighborhood. The lengthy wine list celebrates native Anatolian grapes, and the small plates reflect Istanbul’s mosaic of cultures." - Anya von Bremzen

Foxy Nişantaşı

"Foxy" refers to the musty flavour of the Concord grape, but you may also take it as a description of this laid-back establishment. Indeed, chef Maksut Aşkar of the MICHELIN-starred Neolokal and wine specialist Levon Bağış have appointed a team here that understands their philosophy. Here, you can sip wonderful Turkish wines – from natural wines to classic appellations – and savour a fresh, modern and sophisticated take on local classics. For instance, a fresh sea bass tartare, cut à la minute, is combined with a tangy mayonnaise, croutons, grated bottarga, paprika, and subtly smoked beetroot. Prepare yourself for an explosion of flavours! Keep in mind that the menu is more extensive in the evening than at lunchtime." - Michelin Inspector

Really cool restaurant serving delicious food. Was really impressed with how good some of the dishes were - we loved the steak tartar with the Russian potato salad and ADORED the aubergine. Really a must get. Couscous with mushrooms was good too. People complain about the portion size but what we ordered was reasonably sized given the prize and the vibe of the restaurant. Great wine list - definitely recommend. Dessert was the only thing we were a little on the fence about but otherwise amazing experience.

This is a fantastically duo of chef and sommelier! Like to the moon and back! The cuisine is amazing and very full of taste; the wines are selected the way I like them — with attention, love and understanding. It was an interesting gastronomic journey for me and my family. I will warn you right away that if you do not like wine pairing, do not understand or do not like haute cuisine (or do not watch Chef Ramsay in the evenings 😁))), you may not like the price and portion size. This is a gourmet place in a good way. This is an adventure into tastes, not a place for a snack or a simple inexpensive dinner. My octopus was heavenly; the reimagined balık ekmek puts a new spin on bread and fish; the pasta is so full of fish flavour it's just wow. Huge thanks to the owners, chef, sommelier and wonderful staff! You are awesome ❤️

I have to say my expectations were completely exceeded, the food was excellent with a special spiciness, great. An exceptional wine list, the two guys who served us know their trade, we had great white wine and a fantastic red wine from Turkey. We will come back here again

If you are a cat lover, you would love this place. We were enjoying different platters with the cute cats around us. Very tasty food specially the hummus, personally I enjoyed the savory dishes more than the sweet ones. Very slow service we needed to wait ages for the food. Slightly expensive for the portions but still a good quality.

For travellers passionate about food, do not visit Istanbul and miss the opportunity to dine at Foxy! Their creative interpretation of classic recipes come in 24 small dishes and are a perfect window into modern Turkish culture (I usually go twice each visit to try more of the menu). Most importantly, the vibes are perfect. This is a place good friends meet to catch up, to go on dates, or relax at the end of a long day. It's chic, but also relaxed, with staff that are incredibly attentive and happy to walk you through dishes and their extensive wine menu. Clear of the intense tourist trap areas, I love to sit down with a glass of wine, selection of 3/4 plates and enjoy Istanbul as the locals do.

Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, a very good wine list with many entries available by the glass or even half glass, great food too. Attentive service as well. I had a great time!

Tucked away on one of Nişantaşı’s most iconic streets, Foxy is a gem in the heart of Istanbul’s most elegant neighborhood—surrounded by boutiques, galleries, and the city’s fashion-forward crowd. But step inside, and the vibe shifts from chic to soulful. Awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand and recognized as a Gault & Millau Excellent Table, Foxy champions a new era of Turkish gastronomy with a focus on natural wines (all locally produced) and a menu that highlights collaborations with Turkish chefs from across the country. It feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a community—one where chefs are celebrated, supported, and given the freedom to express themselves through their dishes. The fish with housemade pesto was nothing short of sublime, while the lakerda and topik offered comforting nods to heritage with beautifully modern execution. Each plate felt intentional, seasonal, and deeply connected to place. And the pairing local orange wine was otherworldly. The staff are warm, the atmosphere is effortless, and the attention to detail is subtle but striking. Whether you're here for a spontaneous glass of wine or a long, celebratory dinner, Foxy offers a genuinely local yet forward-thinking experience.
