Highlights

This quirky donut shop serves made-to-order creations with an array of toppings, but it could definitely use some sprucing up.

"Get your hands sticky with these sweet treats that originated in Ocean City. Fractured Prune now has several locations up and down the Eastern Shore, but only one claims the namesake for the OC Sand donut, a warm honey glazed donut dipped in cinnamon and sugar." - Tierney Plumb, Adele Chapin, Tim Ebner

Found blue plastic in my donut. Originally thought it was a blue Jimmie Till I realized it was thru out. I know it wasn't done intentionally but still, I wasn't happy about it. We usually get these every year, but quality has gone down. Tasteless like cooked in old oil, and I couldn't tell a flavor difference from banana to pb. I'm not sure if I'm just getting old or the novelty has worn off, but I don't think we will be getting them again.

Google
They really need to update their prices. We ordered the “Breakfast Club” as you see it shows it’s $5.09 yet they’re actually $8.25 so why not update it like the rest?? At LEAST with tape? Or tell someone?? With 3 of us ordering that’s an extra $10 we didn’t know we would spend. It’s silly to not update it or at least tell someone while they order. Place needs a serious makeover too, it’s rundown and looks like a Toddler painted it. Man making donuts was fast though! Made them nice.

Google
The donuts weee amazing. First time definitely would have like more of a welcoming feel. We was clueless about the menu. Felt pretty rushed like we should know what we want already and be out.

Sunday Sept 22, several events in town, lots of people around. At 11am wanted coffee and a donut. "We're out" was all that the disheveled manager yelled when I asked for coffee. Place was a mess where they drop donuts into toppings. Donut was gross. Full of grease and raw on the inside. One bit then into the trash. Got our donuts elsewhere. What happened to this place?? Would never go again.

Google
Most of these reviewers nailed this place. Donuts are delish. Just the donuts would make this a 5 star rating. However everything else is kinda off. Wait is a bit long. Process is super awkward. Place is kinda weird and definitely dirty. I think the open concept does not work here. I didn’t need to see this slow and clunky donut making process. Also, there was plenty of folks working, but the process looked to not be running super efficiently. The older white haired lady does look to be in charge and the young men were just looking to not make her angrier and just do their jobs. I did see her scrolling her phone when I left. Super weird vibe. They also need sturdier boxes. They are made to order so they are packed pretty hot which doesn’t help with transport or aesthetic. Drink cases in front with no drinks. Hours are only 8am-12pm. Coffee maker from the 80s. I don’t recall if they actually had any made. We ordered 10 different donuts, but it is hard to know what any of them are until you taste them. Many of them look the same. They are super delicious, so again, definitely worth trying!!

Google
Came across this while exploring the boardwalk. We bought 3 donuts banana bread, strawberry shortcake and myrna medley. Donuts were served fresh and hot. They were very soft and delicious. Strawberry shortcake would probably be our favorite however they're small compared to the price. IG: journey_man16

Google
Donuts here was so fresh and made to order. Packed with plenty of crazy toppings. The dough inside is soft, chewy and had a lil crunch on the exterior. Came here on a busy Saturday and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. The chocolate, French toast and peanut butter cup were may favs

Google
Little shop with fresh donuts. The donut size it a little small, but you can create your own flavor mixes, so that's cool! And they are soft and warm and fresh!

Kim M.

Yelp
In town for the week and our first morning of vacation we had to come here. The selection is amazing, fresh and hot. No diets on vacation!

Josh J.

Yelp
Great hot donuts. This location was less expensive than the location up the highway. My kids love these!! We will get them again before we leave.

Yelp
I'm sorry but I don't get the hype. We tried these donuts on a recent trip to OC, MD and I was not impressed at all. First of all, they are all the same flavor cake style donuts with different flavored icings/toppings. Secondly, the advertised draw or specialty is that they are served and iced warm which is such a ridiculous concept to me because the icing completely melts off! What is the point of that?!

Angelo B.

Yelp
Stopped by because our hotel was around and hI corner. This reminded me of ducks donuts in NJ... donuts made to order with sweet toppings. I tried the Black Forest topping which was actually quite good. The others in my group enjoyed their donuts too. Price was reasonable at around $2 each They were the perfect size... not too big and not too small. May not be sufficient by itself for breakfast but great for a snack.

Yelp
I took a stroll over to get a couple of donuts before my husband woke up on his birthday. I anticipated getting four but was talked into 6 as it was more cost effective. I cost effectively ate 4 donuts that morning....shh! The donuts aren't huge but they are delicious! There are several options of glazes and toppings you can choose from by creating your own or pick the combinations suggested. I just chose some of the options off of the menu and did not create my own this time. I got there at a time that wasn't super busy so I had super quick service. I ordered the carnival, smyrna medley, lemonade, plain jane, banana nut and reeses peanut butter. All were super yummy and we had no left overs.

Yelp
Change your hours on Yelp because it says you're open and I'm here at 0645 and the door says 8 am

Yelp
There are two main things to know about The Fractured Prune, at least when it comes to this location. The first one is the donuts are amazing. They are cooked fresh and made to order while you wait. The second thing to note is you will probably have to wait in line a bit, but the employees work hard and it goes much faster than you would think. We went twice on our 3 day stay in Ocean City and weren't disappointed. I won't list every type of donut we tried but I have to give a special mention to the trail mix as it was my favorite. The donuts here are a little pricey, but if you're in ocean city you're used to it. You get a little off each donut by buying a half or a full dozen of donuts. But it's still $1.50 or so per donut. The people that worked at this one are all great and I highly recommend it. I will say that we walked from 41st street to 28th for our donuts and it was a great way to not feel guilty about eating 2 in a sitting.

Dayton K.

Yelp
Donuts were amazing. They were melt in your mouth and all the toppings tasted delicious. The workers got the job done and our donuts were ready in less than a minute, hot and fresh. It was so good I didn't even get a chance to get a picture. I got the Morning Buzz and it hit the spot. I ate mine when it was really hot and it was one of the best donuts I've ever had. I will say the restaurant was pretty humid and not super clean but I don't think anyone cares or has time to clean everything when you're selling hundreds of really delicious donuts a day.

Patty V.

Yelp
SADNESS!! Thanks for the memories!! You have priced yourself out of customers! No more lines out the door. Horrible customer service. Yes the doughnuts are very good. But as a person that would get at least a dz EVERY day for a week this is just so over priced now that you've lost a LOYAL customer. The size of the doughnuts are small from the start and for what you get you cannot justify $2.98 for 1 not much the prices for 1/2 dz and a full dz Good luck to you guys!! You're gonna need it.

Christina N.

Yelp
First I will say, our donuts were delicious! The service was great as well too. The young man who took our order was pleasant, and even made some jokes! The reason I gave 4 stars is because the different locations all had different hours which was so confusing! We tried to go here 2 days in a row, but Google would say one time and we would get there and the place was already closed for the day.

Joey L.

Yelp
Great cake donuts and your able to customize the donuts. They come out fresh and hot.

Kaitlyn H.

Yelp
I've been getting donuts here for years and they are always perfect! I love the history behind the business that they share with customers as well as the variety of flavors of donuts. The simple "OC Sand" has to be my favorite, but I've liked all the flavors I've tried here. Quick story: The last time I was here (7/10/18), I saw two deaf women in the store deciding what to order. When they stepped up to order, the staff was patient and did their best to make sure the orders were correct for them. I was surprised by just how professional and caring the staff was here. Keep it up!

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Perfect, tiny size donut! Warm and fresh! Wish they opened a little earlier but still worth the wait.

Anastasia G.

Yelp
Amazing warm donuts made fresh right in front of you with many different glazes/ toppings!

Thanh D.

Yelp
Donuts were the hand dipped while we waited. Service was quick. We recommend the strawberry shortcake and rolo.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Would love to review the food but never got into the door. We got the kids and dogs together for a nice morning stroll. We walked from our hotel to the location on 2808 Philadelphia Ave. we arrived and there were people inside but it didn't look busy. As I was reaching for the door handle a woman who works here opened it and stuck her head out. "We're closed, I don't have enough boxes". Surprised I responded "you're closed?" It was 8am. They only just opened at 7am! She then more forcefully says it again. "Closed, out of boxes." I just stared at her because I didn't even know what to respond with. She said "sorry, don't know what you want me to do." Then she slammed the door in my face. After that my 5 year old started to cry because the woman was "mean to mommy" and we looked for another location, walked back to the hotel and my husband drove to another spot. I've worked customer service my entire career (18 years) There are better ways to approach the situation. Even just with your tone of voice. Our first trip to OCMD and it wasn't a good start to the morning.

Thomas A.

Yelp
Great donuts, made fresh just the way you like. The staff was friendly and helpful. A must try for donut lovers.

Yelp
The Fractured Prune is hands down my favorite donut chain of all time and is a staple of every Ocean City MD/Delaware beaches vacation trip. This location in particular is located in the middle of a strip mall on Philadelphia Ave (ironic since I live an hour from Philly). For the longest time I believed this was the original Fractured Prune location and whether or not this is actually true it is the first location I visited years ago when I was a kid during one of many trips to Ocean City MD in the early 2000s. The first time I remember coming to this specific location myself was when I visited in 2009. I loved the shop on the inside and out, I even took a picture with my dozen donuts on the outside of the shop! Since then, I visited this location during a vacation in 2013 and more recently during a weekend vacation in October 2020 from the 9th-11th. Naturally the donuts didn't disappoint and I even recreated the photo from 2009! One thing I love about this location and the donuts is how consistent they have remained. My favorite donut is the Carnival but I also love the Caramel Kiss, French Toast, O.C. Sand, Peanut Butter Cup and the Plain Jane to name a few other favorites. There's still so many more combinations to try too! I know I'll keep visiting when I am in the area so I have plenty of time to try them all!

Jude T.

Yelp
I have an FP around the corner from me, and I used to work by one, yet I have never managed to go to one. Well, that has now changed, and I know I was missing out. So the donuts are basically the same style - regular donuts. Then they throw stuff on top for good measure and taste. The blueberry glaze on my donut was awesome, honestly...it was sweet and had a hint of blueberry flavor. The inside was warm and soft. Very good breakfast. My partner had an egg and cheese sandwich...which is served with a donut as the roll - genius. This location is small and only accepts cash, so take note.

John M.

Yelp
Good donuts Have trouble being speedy with anything else Can get what ever combo you want Bring cash no credit Long line in am Only open till12

Robert M.

Yelp
Excellent fresh donuts. Tasty coffee. I wound up eating 3 donuts on my own. Lol. I'd definitely go again next time we're in Ocean City.

Michelle L.

Yelp
My friend and I walked in to get just two donuts, the next day we went back and got 7 more. This place looks like your typical beach city donut shop. Just walk in and order some freshly made donuts. When I say fresh I mean literally fresh, made right in front of your eyes. From batter to fryer to various dipping sauces and toppings. We tried a whole bunch including the O.C. Sand and Strawberry Shortcake but my most memorable one was the Blueberry Hill. The donuts themselves are soft on the inside and have a nice mild crunch on the outside from them being freshly fried. The toppings all complemented each other which just enhanced everything about the donut. Nothing beats a hot sweet donut.

Isabel J.

Yelp
While I was in Ocean City I kept seeing different locations and there was always a line. This got me curious and I had to try them. I was so full when I came here but it was our last day and I didn't want to leave OC without trying them so I bought half a dozen for the road. They smelled so good and were hot that I couldn't resist and ended up eating one before getting to the car. All were really good and fresh. I love how you can mix and match different toppings to your liking. I love coconut so the banana, coconut, cinnamon mix was my ultimate favorite. I think I could just sit and eat 10 of them since they were so good. I hope they open a chain in NYC soon so I can enjoy them more often.

Nancy O.

Yelp
Donuts made fresh to order with your choice of glaze and toppings. Niche idea and very creative, if a bit one note. Worth a try.

Mike F.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a quick, delicious morning treat. When I'm vacationing in Ocean City with friends, sometimes you just want to get right down to the beach bars! Sure, there are a bunch of great traditional breakfast spots in town, but when you're about to embark on a long day of drinking and bar hopping, having a big, heavy breakfast in your stomach can really put a damper on things. So for a quick morning pick-me-up, nothing beats the Fractured Prune! Grab a doughnut or two, an iced coffee or an apple juice, and take your breakfast to go as you make your way down the boardwalk. And the doughnuts really are fantastic. These little babies will give you a nice sugar rush to kick-start your AM and tide you over until you get to your pool bar of choice.

Joann M.

Yelp
Made to order.... Topped as you wish and soooo yummy. Get the ones featured or get customized as you like. Negatives just a couple of plastic chairs... No tables.... So expect to sit in your car or somewhere else.... Cause there just isn't anywhere there. Other negative is that while these were awesome hot and fresh they don't hold well. The ones the next day we hadn't eaten were hard and yuck! So don't bother getting any for later.... Not worth it. Last negative is that they are small and a bit pricy but since we were vacationing it is what it is..... Ohhhh and they are CASH only!!!

Jason P.

Yelp
Came here to grab donuts for a friend up in PA and I didn't know which one he liked so i ordered them all minus the plain one. Came out to 19 I picked the last 5 and took my boxes and paid the parking lot guys there share for free parking... noticed when I was at Pablo's bowls that I only got 17 instead of 24. Went back and they gave me an extra dozen for free to compensate. Turns out I didn't get the OC sand that my friend favors but he didn't care, he was happy to have the delicious assortment of donuts I brought him. Wait time was fast even though the line was super long. Donuts we're phenomenal, staff exceptional and friendly! Will definitely be returning later this year and this time I'll be more clear in what I want as I fumbled on my order!

Stacey O.

Yelp
They've never cleaned the store. Look in any crevices and you'll see years of crust and crud. Floors are sticky, even the door is crusted with what looks like donut glaze on the deadbolt. Could you even TRY to clean?? Handmade paper signs are put up everywhere and are contradicting like 'get your beverage before you pay' and 'please pay for your beverage before you get it'. And it's difficult to see the prices by the 1/2/dozen because they've been taped over with new prices too many times. It was very gross and honestly, I was afraid to even drink the coffee by the looks of the machine, however the donuts were good. I would have walked out but I was with a group and it wasn't my decision. Next time I want Fractured Prune, I'll find a different one that have some basic cleaning skills and frankly one that just cared at all. I think the franchise should look into this location because if I didn't know it was a franchise operation, I'd never go back to another fractured prune.

Kristen H.

Yelp
Donuts are spectacular! My dad and I bought a dozen. The OC Sand is definitely the best. My second favorite was the blueberry. Personally, I like the top sugary part of the donut more than the actual donut. Sadly, I ate these right before parasailing 600 ft into the air and threw them up on the super shaky boat treading on the ocean. I don't advise!

Lauren S.

Yelp
We have been coming here for the past couple of years now on vacation. We used to make several different trips here throughout the week but now we cut it down to 1, which is enough. I love their doughnuts especially the morning buzz one with mocha glaze and oreos. I am seeing a lot of other donut shops trying to do the same thing now, but that is one flavor I can't find anywhere else. Every other year we have been here there's always a line. This week there was no line for some reason, and we got our doughnuts quicker than ever. However, they were not as hot as they should be, I had to heat them up in our microwave. Maybe it is better when there is a line then. One time we got them a few years ago the one machine was broken too. I think since they were down a donut machine they tried to compensate by cooking them faster. But we got donuts that were still raw in the middle. I still like these donuts but am dissapointed they seem like they're starting to slip a little. Maybe I'll try shugar shack across the street next time.

Tishea D.

Yelp
This place was very interesting! This was my 2nd time there but this place was so much different than the one I went to. I didn't see any options of making your own. It was so crowded and I wanted to take my time and read everything but this place was so upbeat that I could not concentrate. I felt like if I didn't hurry up and order than I was going to get cussed out. I was mad at this location for only taking cash! It is 2017, so what business establishment only takes cash? The doughnuts was delicious of course but they are kinda small. Can they make them bigger like Krispy Cream, Giant, or 711?

Joe G.

Yelp
This place looks about as clean as a makeshift medic station during the Battle of Stalingrad. Furthermore, they're cash only and apparently COVID keeps them from making breakfast sandwiches. I had no idea a virus could keep you from throwing an egg and some sausage between two pieces of bread. I hope the owners personally contact me so I can call them asshats directly. I even ran into one of their employees at Dunkin Donuts and they said Dunkin's food is better. One star only because no star is not an option. Their donuts are greasy anyway and will leave you with more time on the porcelain than hitting the waves.

Jason P.

Yelp
I was looking forward to this place after all of the great reviews. It was only myself craving one at the time, so I only got one donut. I believe covered with chocolate and nuts. I really wanted a chocolate cake based donut, but I didn't see anything there, maybe I missed it. The donut was good. Very fresh and straight from the fryer. My issue with the donut I had was that it was a bit greasy, being straight from the fryer. My stomach usually doesn't agree with greasy foods in the morning, so eating one of these earlier, or god forbid two, would've given me a stomach ache. I wish there were lighter options, something similar to maybe a cruller?, but I will give it a shot during my next visit. My review is actually for the southern most location of Ocean Beach. Down on the boardwalk below 1st Street.

Cassie G.

Yelp
The donuts themselves were a solid 3, but the shop was SO DISGUSTING. How can they be in business?! There was dirt and grime everywhere. If you want a good laugh, look at their "sanitation station" covered in dirt and donut mess. We went at 8am, it looked like a weeks worth of mess hadn't been cleaned up. They need to be out of business.

Bethany F.

Yelp
Eh they are ok. They are literally the same doughnut with just different toppings. They make them "fresh to order" and everyone in our group loved them but me. I just wasn't impressed. Good coffee. Lots of locations.

Andrew M.

Yelp
Great donuts but the employees have negative attitudes and the service was poor. They need an awning out front or something because there is absolutely no shade. Employees do not seem happy to be here at all.

Adam S.

Yelp
Went to grab the morning 'nuts for the fam. Line was long and kind of strange. Got fully screamed at by one of the workers because there were too many people in the store. This would normally upset me but honestly, I kind of liked it. Woke my ass up. The two boys behind the counter were absolutely whipping the donuts into the glaze containers. I would have loved to know the exact speed bc it was shocking. At least 25mph. I mean I can't blame them, if I was a ten year old working in a donut shop by the beach I would do the same thing. Donuts were good. 5 stars.

Chris E.

Yelp
We stumbled across the Fractured Prune while passing by. Let me say, that this place seems really run down and old (because it is) but don't let appearances fool you. In fact, I was quite disappointed when I saw that my 2$ donut was so small I even laughed at it when I first opened the box, prompting an employee to laugh with me. However, upon taking a bite... The fractured prune is now my all time favorite donut spot. Although I am only on vacation, I will be returning the next time I visit ocean city. We ordered the French toast and blueberry donut. (Btw, they look nothing like the photos) the donut was very soft and warm with an explosion of flavors in threat way possible. They are small for good reason because it is so sweet. I couldn't imagine eating more than one or two. It almost reminds me of a funnel cake and I love funnel cakes. I've had other donuts but most feel to bready with very little sweetness. fractured prune donuts are concise and get straight to the point. Take a stop by if you are feeling the sweet tooth without wanting to fill yourself up. Happy eating.

Mike S.

Yelp
So many fun ways you can customize donuts here. We got a dozen of their speciality donuts and were not disappointed. French toast was my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Laura S.

Yelp
So I honestly don't know how many stars to give this place. On the one hand, the donuts are seriously amazing. They make one type of donut - a cakey, plain one - that is perfectly dense and moist on the inside (cakey donuts get really dry, but not these at all), with a crunchy exterior. I could eat them plain and be happy. When we were there, the machine was churning out donuts possibly to order, or maybe just getting the first ones made for the day. So they're fresh and hot. Then they dip them in a glaze of your choice, and toppings of your choice. I got the honey glaze with cinnamon sugar and coconut, and it was probably the best donut I've ever eaten. Because the donuts are so hot, the glazes just sort of melt into it. And the base dough isn't overly sweet, so they don't get overly sweet with the glaze. Service was prompt, even though they had a line immediately upon opening (and they opened about 10 minutes early), and very friendly - and patient with our indecisive kid. If I could stop there, I'd give this place 5 stars and look for an option to give six. But. BUT. You guys. I honestly do not know how this place passes health inspection. It is FILTHY. Not a single surface looked clean. The bins with the glazes were all completely open, with streaks and chunks of partially dried glaze running down the sides. The toppings bins were similarly messy. The wall of the prep area that I could see was just coated with multicolored... STUFF. I assume glazes, but who knows for sure? We were there first thing, so this wasn't end-of-the-day mess. This was clearly there from the day before, and the day before, and probably weeks or months of just not cleaning at all. I really can't overstate how gross it was. I almost couldn't eat my donut (you take them out, not eat there, so that helped). Even the coffee service area was dirty. So, if they start cleaning the place and maybe get some covers for the glazes (seriously - the door stays open, so bugs can get in, go straight for the bins of liquid sugar, get stuck there.... shudder), I'd be there every day I'm in OC. As it is, I don't think I can go back.

Tori A.

Yelp
Weird setup on the boardwalk. Just seemed dingy/dirty for whatever reason. Donuts were ok. No credit cards, only cash.

Byron F.

Yelp
Cool place! They make dozens of different donut combinations right in front of you. Wait is 20 minutes or so, but they are hand made to order and the place is popular. Donuts are delicious and unlike anything I've had at any chain.

Libby F.

Yelp
This shop is literally across the street from my hotel. You can smell the donuts on a breezy day when you are standing in the parking lot. So, the aroma of hot, fresh donuts lured me in. Oh, the gluttony! I ordered three (not just for me) : The O.C. Sand (a local specialty), Lemonade, and the special of the season, Apple Crisp. After biting into one of these it makes me sad I didn't patronize the shop in Silver Spring enough before they packed up and left town. These morsels of high carb, high fructose, high calorie, and high fat content are incredibly delicious! They give them to you in a box because they are warm and gooey. The O.C. Sand was simple and sweet. The Lemonade was a bit artificial tasting, but aren't most donuts that way? The Apple Crisp was sweet like the O.C. Sand with added graham cracker crumbs and an apple flavor. The best part is that they are just $1.50. More than a DD donut, but they are dressed to order, and when you consider that a "boutique" cupcake can cost you anywhere between $3.00 - $5.00, these babies are a steal.

JP G.

Yelp
Soo many choices, soo little time! I stopped here every morning this past weekend to pick up a dozen for my hotel group that mini vacations here every summer. There were about 15 of us and I wanted to make sure everyone tried one! And the general consensus was they loved them as these doughnuts were the perfect morning snack to get fight our hangovers and get us going for the day! With around 19 glazes and 13 toppings to choose from you can't really go wrong with any of them. And don't worry, you will have time to pick which ones you want because the line is usually out the door every time I go. The doughnuts are always made fresh and then go into an assembly line of glazes and toppings. I'm talking strawberry, blueberry, cinnamon glazes to chocolate, jimmies, coconuts to even an ice cream scoop as a topping. I typically eat about 2-3 per visit and some of my staples are the OC sand, blueberry, and strawberry ones. This ain't your typical Dunkin D or Krispy Kreme, no wonder this place has been featured on the Food Network and other shows.

Christina H.

Yelp
If you go to Ocean City, then this is one of the places you need to visit (along with Fisher's). On our way home this weekend, we stopped by this Fractured Prune location so we could take a half dozen home with us. My husband only wanted one (lemonade) so I picked the rest of the flavors, choosing French Toast, Sundae, Reese Cup, Morning Buzz and Pebble Beach. I paid ($1.50 for one, $7 for a half dozen and $12 for a dozen, cash only) and waited for my order. Less than three minutes later, I walked out to the car and we were on our way home. Less than fifteen minutes later, all the donuts were gone. My husband only had one. I am ashamed to say that I ate the other five all by myself and in such a short amount of time. However, I am pregnant and I will tell my husband that is my reason for eating them all, but I will admit to Yelp! that I would have done this even if I was not pregnant! These donuts are that good. They are made fresh right in front of your eyes and when you get them, they are so hot and fresh and each bite practically melts in your mouth. After eating donuts from Fractured Prune, no other donut will even compare to these.

Yelp
Honestly... Fractured Prune alone is a reason to come down to OCMD. I can't emphasize how great their donuts are. They're made to order, right in front of you. They're hot, fresh, and dense.... it makes my mouth happy just thinking about it. It's hard to have a favorite flavor because they're all so good... Pebble Beach, Black Forest, Trail Mix..... Yeah, they're that good.

Yelp
Our FAVORITE place to get breakfast in Ocean City!!! The woman that runs the place is great, and we went here 3 times on our most recent trip. Can't wait to go back next year! If you're a donut fan, you NEED to go here.
