"The long-running Irish pub recently moved to historic St. Paul’s Square, adding a connected wine bar — Anne’s — to the mix. The food got an upgrade, too, with indulgent dishes like lobster mac and cheese and vegetarian bolognese lasagna. There are indoor dine-in services." - Brandon Watson

Yelp
If I could give Francis Bogside 10 stars I would! I recently visited Francis Bogside at their new location in St. Paul Square and I am obsessed! They by far have the best happy hour I have ever seen in the downtown area. Their HH goes all day from Sunday - Tuesday, and 4PM-8PM from Wednesday - Saturday. Classic cocktails are $6, well liquor is $5 and $1 off all beer. They also have an amazing happy hour food menu that ranges from $5 - $7 depending on the item. During my visit I decided to go with their Tom Collins (part of the HH menu) and it was absolutely delicious! It was the perfect cocktail to drink after a hot Texas day. For food, I went with the buffalo wings and deviled eggs. Everything came out fresh and it tasted amazing! I thought it was just going to be average bar food, but damn was I wrong. What really completed my experience was the AMAZING staff working there! The manager was so sweet and made sure to connect with us and tell us more about their future plans for Francis Bogside. The guy working the bar was also super nice and told me he only works on Wednesday, so you bet I am coming back just to see him! Both of them really completed our experience and made us feel so welcomed, which I think is priceless.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I have been to Francis Bogside but I recall finding thier old location charming. When I heard they had moved into the old Smoke BBQ location at St. Paul's square, I was excited to see what they would do in the space. After some solid St. Patrick's day advertising that continued to make its way on my feeds, I figured what a great time to check them out! Oops. We were seriously disappointed. The downstairs was pretty packed so we made our way to the upstairs bar. We asked for a couple of Guinness' and were handed two cans. Okay, no problem, I'll take a glass please. I mean the can literally says best from a glass and let's be honest, it is. The bartender said he may have a couple of glasses and eventually found two. No problem. He wasn't loving us and seemed slightly annoyed we were there but that didn't deter us. We decided to order some fries and hang for a bit. The fries that we ordered arrived and as the runner came up he looked very confused, so we signaled to him that the fries may be ours. That's when the bartender stepped in and insisted they were for a table behind us. Oops! Perhaps we were wrong. We were not. The guy behind us hadn't ordered anything and the runner came back to us for delivery. The bartender makes his way over to say "oh guess those were yours" and walks off to pour a shot of vodka for a worker there. Nice. Then the fries. Somehow both soggy and overcooked. We closed our tab and left and went to our favorite spot where as soon as we walked in, we were treated like customers again. Won't make that mistake twice.

Yelp
First time, loved that they had different rooms with different atmospheres to them. They had a good selection of cocktails but I'm more of a cider girl so I didn't really drink much. The appetizers that I got was decent I just expected more because that's what I'm used to for fries :)

Yelp
Finally went to check out the new Francis Bogside location. Decided to go during all day Monday happy hour for a couple of drinks and snacks. The happy hour drinks were great. No complaints there and the prices were excellent considering the location. They have a few drink options available but we tried the mule and the tequila honeysuckle. Both solid and prepared quickly. For the snacks we decided to try their brussel sprouts and the fried pickles. Again, for the price on happy hour the servings were generous and the food arrived timely and hot. The brussels sprouts were not as crispy as I would have liked them and overall were lacking in flavor. Maybe a dip or a lemon to squeeze over the top would be great to serve with these. The fried pickles had a nice savory spice on the breading and were really (temperature) hot. However, the breading on these could not keep up and falls completely apart when picked up, leaving you with just a warm pickle and crumbley breading on the plate. Overall, a decent happy hour I would visit again for drinks, but I'd skip the happy hour snacks and try something from their full menu--they have a lot to offer! Even pho which i am intrigued by.

Yelp
What an incredible and truly authentic Irish pub, nestled in the heart of St. Paul's Square, offering a wide selection of classic pub dishes and drinks! We were thoroughly delighted by the lively music and the attentive service throughout our visit. The only drawback we encountered was with the portions; for instance, when I ordered the potato skins, it appeared that only half of a small potato was used. Despite this, we still had a wonderful time and would definitely consider returning for another visit.

Yelp
Words can't describe what the atmosphere is here. Adrian keeps it lively and never ending memories for sure. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for Adrian and the remarkable service then we wouldn't continue to come. This is a definitely a great San Antonio landmark!! Please continue to thrive and give delicious food and drinks to not only locals but visitors of this fine establishment!!

Yelp
Used to love this place. Great food and drinks. Service a the new location is terrible. Our waitress disappeared. Tried to go to the bar to order and they first told me no. Finally let me order but the bartender was very put out. Asked the waitress for another drink and she said sorry, I'm dealing with another table. Overall bad experience bc of the service. Unfortunate.

Yelp
What a great experience! I actually visited Anne's Wine Bar inside Francis Bogside. The charcuterie board was huge, 6 people easily shared the board. The service was phenomenal. Our sommelier was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. They have Gappy Hour most days so be sure to ask.

Yelp
On my way to my first Spurs game of the season I decided to stop off for a little pre-gaming at Francis Bogside and just my luck it was happy hour. I like the new location at St Paul Square since it's not too far from the Frost Bank Center, of course parking can sometimes be an issue but oh well, such is downtown. Since it was happy hour, I ordered a High Wheeled Irish red followed by a rye Old Fashion and for dinner I ordered the Fish and chips. I had recently tried the high wheel Irish red and really liked it so it made sense to order it in an Irish theme bar.... slainte' The Fish and chips were excellent, they were both fried to a golden brown, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. It really hit the spot on a chilly evening. My old fashion came next, and it was mixed perfectly and for the price made it all the better. Overall, I would recommend for anyone to come check out Francis Bogside and try some really good food and drinks in a red laxed environment when in the downtown area. The staff is friendly and make the visit worth it.

Yelp
My wife and I were excited that our old hang out was returning and we decided to go Friday night and see the new spot! FYI: you will be carded for entry. Walking in it is totally different than the one before! Bigger place with two bars and lots of seating. The decor is very inviting and a great feel! We initially went in to see if the menu was still what we remembered. Unfortunately it's a minimal food menu at this time with pizza and wings for now! Was looking for the old steak frites, curry chicken, and arroz con pollo! Either way we grabbed dii ER else where and returned for drinks. I started off with a buffalo trace old fashioned that was excellent! The bartenders were very attentive and never felt like we were just waiting. My wife was a little adventurous and let the bartenders make her drinks with her flavor profile and she was very pleased with both. I got adventurous with one and it was not my thing ( don't know the of it but it just left an after taste). Returned to my usual of straight bourbon and water. There is an upstairs portion that has not opened yet. If you eve frequented the restaurant smoke when it was by sunset station that is where this place is now. I think this has just been their soft opening but I really hope they bring back some of the old favorites (banana Jameson shots, spicy tequila and the excellent menu that we loved so much) . I will return ! Nice place to try as it's laid back and they make excellent drinks.

Katherine R.

Yelp
Francis Bodside is an OG I miss when it was on SStMarys but still great stuff! Truly they have leveraged there bar at the new locations same vibes! Very welcoming chill vibey environment! The pricing despite the location change stayed the same which is something I appreciate especially during this inflation we are experiencing. The food is still good the only feedback and truly will be willing to change it to 5 starts if they bring back the spears fried pickles! At the old location would stop by for a drink and the fried pickles after work and it would slap so hard. The pickles they have now didn't give what they needed to give. That's the only feedback I have. Other than that stop by good vibes good people!

Yelp
Review for Blayne's Bar (upstairs) Had a chance to check out Blayne's Bar down in St. Paul's Sq located atop Francis Bogside (also a dope spot). You can also find Anne's Wine Bar in the same building. This spot has quickly become a destination for good times and delicious eats! Blayne's is now San Antonio's official downtown Honky Tonk and their slinging more than just the Texas vibes. The kitchen is NOT dishing out bar food, but more Tex-Mex comfort cuisine done right, and i'm here for all of it. You need to try it for yoursef! Here's what we tried * Overstuffed Brisket Quesadilla * Succulent Asada Tacos * Crispy Tex-Mex Eggrolls * Tangy Shrimp Ceviche * Bountiful Brisket Nachos * Tasty Custom Cocktails Happy eats, SA!

Yelp
New location. Before in south town. Now off commerce. I like the last location better. There wasn't much of a food menu. That's what I really remember this place for before was they had a nice food menu. Also had plenty on draft and this new spot lack the draft options. I think there was only 2 options. Maybe because it just reopened. I don't know. I hope so. I was talking this place up sooo hard only to be embarrassed by who I took. Hopefully they improve.

Daniel B.

Yelp
Went here twice on a recent visit as the place has such a classic chill vibe, reasonably priced good drinks, and proper food. Staff was great and a shout out to the bartender playing the "Scorpions" on the TouchTunes. Not what you would expect from an "Irish Bar", but it worked!!

Rudolpho M.

Yelp
Our first time in this new establishment after Smoke & Ash, being that this had been renovated and things have been changing as they own it from May, the staff is very minimal and it took us over 10 for a black and tan and that didn't even come out correct. My wife's Dos Equis came out with little Tajin and a the beer was in a beer can. I see only three heads for draft but for the atmosphere is nice and very relaxing but with the issues I have seen they need a lot of work. This would be the last time coming into this facility. It doesn't seem that they have it all together here just yet.

Angela M.

Yelp
The Bartender in the pictured back , can work some magic under pressure. She was so attentive and had great communication and patience, while there was many concert goers grabbing a drink and some bar bites before attending the Pink Concert before the show. She is amazing! Go see her I didn't get to catch her name. The daiquiri picture is also on their amazing Happy Hour Menu.

Justin E.

Yelp
Was really excited to try another Irish pub. Service at main bar was awful, seemingly unnoticed. Ratchet hip hop made us want to sit outside in the disappointing patio covered in dirty glassware and no music. Will give this place another shot and hopefully service is better. Food was awesome! Had the pretzel.

Tammy K.

Yelp
We love this place! They had great food even before the merger with Brigid, which was a stroke of genius on the owners' parts. But now it's really stepped up the menu. We can't wait to try everything! But what really makes FB's a place we enjoy is the people! We always bring our family and friends to FB's because of Caroline, Foxy and Gilbert! They make you feel like you're SO welcome and they're

Sadiya A.

Yelp
I love coming to this place every time I'm in town. The bartenders know how to make the drinks, staff has always been friendly each time and the music is awesome, especially when they have live music. The food is great too - the wings are my go-to here. The atmosphere is lively and there's always a good crowd - it's a great local bar I would recommend!

Joe G.

Yelp
The food and drinks here are on point. Definitely a great spot for date night with great service and the ambience. Here is awesome.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
It had been awhile since I've visited! I think the last time was early Covid (take out only) So I was def looking forward to stopping by. Happy Hour ALL day Sunday AND Monday! Say less! I really enjoyed the Irish Old Fashioned for $6 I ordered a Bavarian Pretzel and it was so good. I wasn't a fan of the beer cheese it came with. The music was on point and service was great!

Carl K.

Yelp
Three bouncers(!) lent an unnecessarily hostile vibe. No need to intimidate casual diners. Never going back.

Michelle A.

Yelp
I loved this place at their SouthTown location. Took my sister there to check it out and especially because they added things to their food menu. We sat at the bar, and Travis "helped" us. Apparently he mentioned something about the menu, but I asked if they had a full food menu because the small menu he put in front of us only had some of their appetizers. I don't know if by me asking annoyed him but his reason se was super rude and made me feel like an idiot for asking or as if I was bothering him. We ordered our drinks and decided to leave because of how rude he was. And him and whatever door guy that was there came to the door and flicked off me and my sister, and asked us to never come back. I'd be okay for never coming back after experiencing this. It's just super disappointing, because I was hyping this place up to my sister.

Esther M.

Yelp
Needed late night eats within walking distance and this place hit the spot. Atmosphere:Music was on point and nostalgic. Bar was Dark and loud. At first service was really slow but once we ordered food arrived surprisingly quick. Not bad pub food. Pizza, burgers, wings, etc.

Emily A.

Yelp
My pastor recommended this place - more or so because of the ambiance and the pizza! By which was delicious! Dined in for dinner with an amazing person and we had such a great time! The drinks and food were a bonus. The bartender and servers were great! I enjoyed the rustic classic rock look to the place. I definitely walked and drove past here many times and I'm glad I finally know what exactly this spot has to offer.

Willow N.

Yelp
A tip of 25% was added after I chose the cash tip option, and I had left a more than acceptable tip for mediocre food and service, but then discovered I was also charged an additional 25% to my card. Ambiance was ok, very disappointed on these additional charges.

Mason A.

Yelp
This is a cool sports bar/live music/meet up spot in Southtown. It has it all! The beer and liquor selection is well stocked and the bar area has ample seating and covers about half of the restaurant. They have a full menu of food and drink at affordable prices. In the back left as you enter, you will see a stage in the back which had live music come on after the spurs game that was on. The sports games are projected on a large 15-20' screen in the right side corner as you enter. The sound system is good, too. It's a great place to watch the game especially on cold or really hot days in lieu of an outdoor spot. We ordered a pizza and the egg rolls which yielded no complaints from those at the table. I really liked the flakey, crispiness of the egg roll exterior. This is a go to place to meet up in Southtown!

S B.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to trying this place for quite some time. We finally went Monday. Well, maybe it was the crowd from concert and they were not prepared but the service was not good. Had to ask for a menu after sitting for 10 or more minutes, drinks on menu not available, got my food 15 min. after the rest of our party. We had to ask for my plate. Was not brought any condiments. The food was nothing to speak of. So for me, we won't go back. Disappointed.

Amy G.

Yelp
This adorable pub has something for everyone. It's tucked into a corner. It is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large bar or tables and cute little nooks to sit. There are some great art pieces on the walls. The drinks are fun. They have a lot of cocktails including happy hour until 7pm with $6 options. I had a classic Fitzgerald and it did not disappoint. They have a variety of original cocktails too. They have an extensive beer menu too. If you're hungry they have a lot to offer. Be sure to try the brussel sprouts. So much flavor packed into every bite. Do yourself a favor and get in here.

Laura B.

Yelp
This was great ! Jules was so amazing in helping g and serving and asking our annoying questions!! The burger was the best burger I've had so so so good!! I wish I could come back ... maybe if I move here in a few months!

Analisa A.

Yelp
My sister was super excited to show me this place since it moved to a new area. She was more excited to eat the food there. We sat at the bar and was helped by Travis. Their menu only showed some of their appetizers and my sister asked if they had a full food menu since it wasn't shown in the menu Travis gave us. I guess we were wrong to ask him because he responded to us "Yea, that's what I told you guys" and shrugged his shoulders. So RUDE. Didn't help us at all. We ordered drinks, but decided to walk out and both the door guy and Travis came to the door and flicked us off. Unprofessional as hell and rude.

ViiCka C.

Yelp
Love love love ! The pizza margarita! Tu ey have all day happy hour Sunday and Monday! Nice atmosphere and great bartenders!

Rich S.

Yelp
Saw some great reviews online and wanted to check it out for a quick snack. We were very happy to see at the front entrance our temperature was taken and Covid restrictions were in place. We were able to seat ourselves and we picked a large booth, once we sat down the table was incredible sticky. The server came to our table quickly and greeted us, we asked for a cloth to clean the table as it was sticky but she informed us that they are all sticky on matter how much they clean them. The happy hour menu had a great variety of options in apps and drinks. We ordered the roasted Brussel sprouts with pork belly and the egg rolls along with two drinks. The drinks and apps were out quickly. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and cooked very well with a ton of flavor. The egg rolls were a little heavy almost over fried and under filled. We also ordered the pulled mozzarella, this was the highlight of the food we had. Highly recommend this dish! Overall the food was good and the staff was very friendly, the pub was so dimly lite it caused the sticky table to make it feel unclean. The biggest issue was when leaving we were sent out the back entrance to a completely dark parking lot hidden behind the building. Definitely would not feel safe with people exiting the building at night, additional light is a huge need and a big safety issue!

Nate V.

Yelp
Came in for some pre-dinner drinks, selection was large and cocktails were not bad. Had a vodka collins, very refreshing. Saw they had a pretty extensive whiskey wall, so had to have Balvenie Caribbean 14. Always a favorite!

Brigid P.

Yelp
I am a big fan. I had walked past for years and once stopped in and it was dead and kept going. A few weeks ago we stopped in and it was lovely with 80s music on. Clearly made for our age bracket/demographic and we really enjoyed it. We stopped by again the other night and the old fashioned was on point and I loved the pretzel. The fries were great and the burger was mediocre, so skip him. Again great music and busy but not packed vibe. We will stop in here regularly now.

Yunnán C.

Yelp
This is one of my fav bars/eateries. Chill vibes all around. Their covid protocol is exceptional! Everyone is spread the correct distances and there is a bouncer at the front scanning temperatures and making sure you understand that you have to order food in order to get alcohol...no biggie especially when this place has one of the best burgers in town! Seriously tho, ask for the burger and add some avocado to it. You will not regret it, I do admit some nights it's a bit better than others but it's legit! The cocktails they make are tasty and the beer selection is solid. From aesthetics(dimly lit, nice materials, esp the men's restroom floor) to service(great attentive staff), this place is a must. I definitely recommend coming here, you get different feels sitting in different areas so try to switch it up each time. Come give it a try!

Lily F.

Yelp
I have to come back again to see if I had just a good of a time as I did the first time. I came in solo and made it for the happy hour menu (before 7 pm). Not knowing how large the poutine was, I ordered that and the burger. I couldn't even make a dint. Over a honeysuckle cocktail, I tackled the massive amount of fries drenched in gravy. It seems like they change their poutine from time to time judging from the Yelp photos, but mine was more like cheddar fries with tons of gravy. It was good, but after a few bites the salt of the gravy really dulls your taste buds. The cheese was melty and the pork on top tasted awesome, but that gravy was a little heavier than what I'm used to. The burger was delicious. It tasted like a really good McDonalds burger because it had a familiar tasting sauce with a huge tomato slice in the middle. I had plenty of leftovers for sure and for happy hour prices, you can't beat this deal! I also really dig the place. It's a lot larger than I originally thought and is pretty spread out. A great place to chill out and grab some great drinks and grub.

Sandra M.

Yelp
Solid food and drinks, their menu is forever changing but their offerings are always on point. Can't go wrong with their poutine and burger. The do a regular happy hour but my favorite feature is their "late night" menu which is basically happy hour. Their late night menu starts at 11pm and they have a ton of delicious libations (over a dozen?!) only for $6 along with a few food items. FYI Their regular menu has a dozen or so drinks but they are different than the ones offered during the late night menu (not sure why that is). They have redone their space for those familiar with their old space, one side of the bar used to be Bogside and the other was Brighid. They have now combined both spaces into one and created a stage for shows/concerts. I like this bar because it's always dark inside. I love the vibe and it's usually pretty quiet (which I like). I'm still torn on the service it's usually hit or miss - like the other night we had a fantastic and friendly bartender but later on we got a pissed off/annoyed bartender who clearly didn't want to be there. Regardless of the service the food and drinks are pretty consistent so check them out!

Bridgette R.

Yelp
My husband and I had our date at Francis Bogside this past week. We had 2 bartenders...Chrissy and a gentleman but I did not get his name. They were both extremely helpful and so kind and communicative. The Bogside is nice and dark inside and very cozy. Even though the owner isn't technically an Irishman he did nail the dark intimate aspect of the Irish pub and thank God there are no televisions. There is nothing worse than going into an "Irish" pub in the states and seeing 1,000 TV's staring at you. YUCK. Don't bother saying you are an Irish pub. The only downside we found was that they had removed the fish n chips from the menu. My husband is from Dublin, Ireland so he knows great fish n chips and he said Francis Bogside had some of the best. This was not our first visit to the Bogside, it's just my first review. May we request a return of the fish n chips to the menu please? You will make one Irishman very happy. And make sure to have the malt vinegar on hand. We ordered and split one of their custom pizzas with pepperoni and green olives. It was a very delicious thin crust pizza with a generous amount of all the ingredients and it was the perfect amount of food. We were hungry but not famished. I had the Yellow Rose IPA, one of my favorites, and my husband had the Thirsty Goat, another great beer. Then we split a Thirsty Goat. Perfect pizza, perfect buzz. Franic Bogside and bartenders.....thanks for a great evening.

Wyomi A.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for over 4 years now & always had good experiences.... Last night was my first time visiting since the pandemic hit & I was so excited to have their pizza & wings once again after so long.... and it was definitely not what I was looking forward to. :/ The pizza dough tasted as if it came from a frozen pack... very dry and just had an unauthentic taste to it. If I had to explain the taste, it reminded me of a frozen pizza I've gotten out of a box. I paid for pepperoni and jalapeño pizza - there were more jalapeños than pepperoni & the jalapeño over powered everything. It was nothing like the pizza I used to get... the quality and taste wasn't there this time either. I wouldn't recommend others to order this menu item. As for my wings, I remember always getting more back in the day... or maybe they were bigger?? $8 for 5 tiny wings??? Maybe throw in the 6th or add more celery or carrots to make it worth the purchase. The quality and taste were there though... but they weren't a decent enough size. Drinks - Luckily, the drinks I ordered were good! Can't go wrong with their $6 cocktails at night. Music/DJ was great. Great atmosphere. Overall, I give 3 stars - this is based on music & drinks. Why not more? I mainly come for the food, drinks & vibes but due to the quality I'm just gonna have to go with 3.

Gary A.

Yelp
This a friendly neighborhood bar with a nice ambiance. The bar is large and spacious with comfortable seats. Craft beer selection is available.

Celi S.

Yelp
Amazing service!!! Wow, didn't expect such a cool modern pub. Food was great, drinks are wonderful and service was really good.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Love a good speakeasy! Lots of seating, even distanced during COVID, and extensive food & drink menus. The dark atmosphere and 90s mixed music made for great date-night ambiance. Staff were overly attentive, almost to an annoying point, but I suppose that's better than being completely ignored. We literally had someone stopping by our table every 5-10 mins to check on us and we were just there for drinks. Will be back!

Jesse L.

Yelp
After partying for St Patties on the River Walk all day long. We decided to come here and have some "night caps". We really enjoyed it and will definitely make it back next time in San Antonio. They had a full staff for the day and everyone was getting great service.

Eliana M.

Yelp
Randomly stumbled upon this place while walking around and decided to check it out for some appetizers. Ordered the wedge salad, charcuterie board, and buffalo wings! All were good, but the wedge salad was probably my favorite (lots of bacon)! My friend ordered some drinks and all tasted good and looked great. There was also live music on stage which was a nice touch!

Alfred M.

Yelp
They closed my favorite place! It was the only restaurant open till 2:00am that offered food! What will I do now when I get hungry! It's so sad they had the best burgers and French Fries!!!!

Tandy G.

Yelp
I was sad to hear this place had a fire, but more excited to hear it was re-opening! I had wanted to give it a chance. Glad it was able to make a comeback. The bar is nice, roomy. Not too loud or quiet and it looks like there's room for a band. The drinks prices are common for a bar in this area but nothing fabulous. I was somewhat disappointed by the food. Having heard rave reviews about their late-night snacks, I was upset to find it was just fries snd pizzas with a few oddities but nothing necessarily traditionally Irish. I imagine the menu changes. I had the Guinness Rings. They were tasty. Overall, i think they're still trying to get the charm back. More power to them. Stop in for a change of scenery in Southtown.

Tai L.

Yelp
Came during happy hour. Everything we ordered but the the steak was great! Only issue with the steak was that it came out medium and not medium rare, they did try it a second time, with no luck. However, the brussel sprouts, deviled eggs, and lobster Mac and Cheese was delicious. The drinks were solid as well.

Raechel T.

Yelp
A Southtown favorite! I've been here for happy hour and on the weekends. The habanero wings will make you cry! I love all of their food. The bar is very comfortable and if there isn't something on the cocktail menu, the bartenders are more than capable of making you something you will like. I really enjoy date night here.

Roland A.

Yelp
My favorite pub in the city. Cocktails are amazing. Food is always great as well the pizza it my go to. Truffle fries with house aioli is crazyyy too.
