"A native Midwesterner, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Chicago work is easily accessible for architecture nerds in search of inspiration, especially in the Oak Park neighborhood. This is where you’ll find Wright’s own former home and studio, designed when he was just twenty-two years old. While you could happily amble about the leafy streets and see the Robie House and the Harry S. Adams House—two of the most well-known Wright-conceived homes in the area—it’s really his own home place that makes the best starting point. You’ll see features, like his obsession with horizontal lines, cantilevering, and inglenook fireplaces, that would become Wright’s signature in his later projects. It’s a fascinating history lesson to walk through his early experimental, trial-and-error canvas. "

Google
A must see experience in the heart of the city of Chicago. Frank Lloyd is probably the best architect of his time and his house in Oak Park is the one where he lived with his family of 6 for 20 years. This house is the blend of his talent and emotions where he invested them all to show the world what it's like to be a great architect and a good family man. Despite changing owners for 6 times and being a 6 flat apartment for a while the house has been returned to its original form after 1974. He has not only built this house but 37 more in the neighborhood which is now called Frank Lloyd Historic District which surely is worth the visit after seeing his house.

Thank you Wendee for an incredible tour!! Visited the FLW Home & Studio on a Friday morning for the interior guided tour and had a fantastic time. Wendee was so full of information and made the tour very enjoyable for all guests! Whether you have been to other FLW properties or if this is your first one, this visit should definitely be on your list! The tour is stated at 60 minutes, but with a larger group tends to be about an hour and 15 minutes. They had a great little shop as well with various souvenirs, books, tote bags, tshirts etc. The grounds and museum shop are open before their first 10:00 tour. I highly suggest getting there early to check in and explore by yourself. Other tour options are available on their website as well! Plenty of signage in the property to direct you to the shop to sign in.

If you’re a Frank Lloyd Wright fan or enjoy architecture, this tour is a must see. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and full of interesting facts. I’ve toured a couple of homes he designed but this house was especially interesting to see how FLW himself lived, his studio setup and the design elements he used. It was surreal thinking about him raising his family here, designing in this space or the clients he brought into the reception hall to review plans. There’s several FLW designed homes in this neighborhood which you should see. We played a game to see if we could guess which homes were his based on the design our tour guide said he used during this period. It was fun and we guessed right!

Google
Very interesting tour and home. As with most of his work, Wright put a lot of thought into how this home fits with nature and how to make use of shapes, angles, and light. The home is easy to get to and is in a beautiful historic neighborhood. Take the extra time to walk the neighborhood and see the other FLW houses.

Google
We were in the neighborhood, visiting from Florida. Rats! The home was closed but we enjoyed lapping up the architectural masterpiece from the outside. We’re going to make a point to visit the interior in the future. If you’re a FLW fan you must check it out!

Google
The house was all restored and we can visit most of the rooms. They were able to find furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and also paintings of the time. The windows are all preserved and really beautiful. Some of the floors were also restored to be as in the original house. It looks fantastic and one can have a great perspective on the work of the architect. Also, the guide is extremely polite and has a lot of knowledge about the place. She offers great insights on the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Google
Great tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's home and design studio. Hard to believe that you get to stand right in the middle of the Master's own home. Smells like wood and calm. The drafting wing is held together by chains and is amazing to look at. The school room is another unbelievable room. Take the audio tour, it leads you around the neighborhood to see a dozen other FLW houses of different styles. A must see. Highly Recommended!

Google
Excellent tour of his famous studio and home in Oak Park! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, somewhat humorous and the interior is exquisite to see in person. The tour was packed and there were a couple others going on, so I would recommend buying tickets in advance on the website. There is also a great audio self guided walking tour that gives you insights to the other home he designed in the area. Interesting to learn facts about this famed architect and his family life. I had no idea his real middle name was Lincoln not Lloyd or that he had so many children with his wife, Katherine. Very cool to see original furniture and the home intact! I highly recommend going to check this out!

Yelp
I visited the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio as part of a weekend visit to do the Frank Lloyd Wright Plus tour. The Home and Studio is located in the Oak Park neighborhood, there is plenty of street parking nearby. The check in at the gift shop was easy, by the way the gift shop is nicely laid out with plenty of FLW items. The tour starts outside with some history and more was sprinkled throughout the tour. The house itself is interesting, with the highlight of the home being the small auditorium upstairs that was built for the children; it is a spectacular space and really gives you an idea of how Wright related to his kids. The tour ends in the studio which is amazing, a space that would certainly inspire anyone working there and the office was a wonderful space where Wright would meet with clients. The initial house was designed and built early in Wright's career, with the expansion and the studio coming later, so you can see some of the progress of Wright's designs. I thought that this was a great tour and I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in Frank Lloyd Wright or architecture. Well worth your time, plus there are plenty of other FLW designs located in easy walking distance; you can only see the outsides, but it is interesting to see these houses and the other houses in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Took my parents to The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Tour in Oak Park, and it was an amazing experience--huge shoutout to our guide, Alex, who made the tour even better! As someone who isn't usually into architecture, I was just tagging along, but I ended up really enjoying it. Seeing Wright's original home and realizing how ahead of his time he was, especially for the 1890s, was fascinating. Alex's tour was engaging and well-paced--if he could get me interested, then any Frank Lloyd Wright fan will absolutely love it. We also did the walking audio tour, which was cool but didn't quite measure up to Alex's in-depth tour but was still cool. Overall, this is a must-do for anyone visiting Chicago, whether you're a Wright fan or just looking for something unique to check

Yelp
喜歡建築的人ㄧ定會來看Frank Lioyd Wright 的設計。我們這次參加的是Home&Studio tour. 網站上可以選不同的tour. Both interior and outdoor neighborhoods walking tour People who like architecture will definitely come to see the design of Frank Lioyd Wright. We are participating in the Home&Studio tour this time. You can choose different tours on the website. Both interior and outdoor neighborhoods walking tour are worth seeing. We decided to start with home & studio, and the tour guided explanation gives us a full understanding of this contemporary architect. The architectural style influenced his use and design of indoor space after going to Japan. But he still maintains his specialty in the use of geometric patterns. I have a deeper feeling about the proportion when I come to the field in person. The indoor visit will better understand his space use and lighting design. Because the light is different in winter and summer, the light will cast different shadows through his unique window design. It's worth a look!

Yelp
Frank Lloyd Wright is awesome, but Beverly (the docent we had this afternoon) sure wasn't! Rude, condescending and curt, she left a bad taste in an otherwise pleasant experience. Kindness matters, especially in historically significant tourism!

Yelp
The tour was very informative. The tour guide was great she was very knowledgeable. His house are beautiful. Took a walk to see them all. A must when visiting Chicago if you are an art lover. Didnt have a chance to take pics of the houses but worth a look.

Yelp
I have been a huge fan of Frank Lloyd Wright for many years. Arguably the greatest American architect of all time, FLW has properties that he has designed spread out all throughout the US. The cool thing about Chicago? It has the largest grouping of FLW homes in the country. Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is located in Oak Park (a suburb of Chicago). I bought my tickets online a few days in advance and made my way on a weekday afternoon. Located in a residential neighborhood, I parked for free on a side street. I started off with a tour of FLW's Home and Studio. He lived here for quite a few years back when he was alive. Our tour guide did a great job as we toured both the exterior and interior of the home. He shared many nuggets about FLW, his career, and his family. As well as interesting facts about each room in terms of the architectural techniques used. The tour takes about an hour. After you're done with your tour, you'll arrive at the gift shop. They have some cool gifts so it's worth checking out. I purchased a FLW bookmark. From there, I highly recommend paying for the self-guided audio tour. You're given a headset and a paper to do a walking tour of your own. During your walking tour, which is close to FLW Home and Studio, you'll see eight or so homes that FLW designed in the neighborhood. You'll learn about each home through the audio tour and the piece of paper that is provided to you. It's a great addition to the experience and shouldn't be missed! Frank Lloyd Wright was known for incorporating nature and sunlight into his designs as well as the use of symmetry. It's a unique approach to architecture and he has made such an impact in the industry. While not in Chicago proper, it was a doable drive from the bed and breakfast I stayed at. It ended up being one of my favorite experiences during my Chicago trip.

Yelp
Visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is practically a rite of passage for anyone who grew up in Oak Park. I remember taking the tour during grade school, just like everyone else. I grew up in Oak Park, not far from the studio. You can visit the studio and take a tour, but it's recommended to purchase tickets online in advance. There are different options, including a home tour and an outdoor guided tour, with prices varying depending on what you choose. It's best to check the website for details. We had a fantastic tour guide who took us through all the rooms, and it brought back so many memories of that visit from years ago. This time, I brought my husband, who had never been before. Frank Lloyd Wright had a storied career and was quite a character. Beyond his home and studio here, there's the Robie House near the University of Chicago and numerous other homes he or his staff designed in Oak Park and beyond. Everything in his homes had a specific purpose, and while some might consider the designs plain, they are as modern today as they were back then. Many of the pieces inside are original or have been reclaimed by the society from family members. The foundation also undertook significant renovations when they acquired the property. After the tour, be sure to check out the gift shop, which has a great selection of items like mugs, postcards, ornaments, and more. If you're in the area, visiting the studio is a must. Take some time to explore the surrounding blocks, too, as you'll find other homes Wright designed. Just keep in mind that parking is on the street, as it's a residential neighborhood.

Yelp
Fabulous tour! Joan was a great and knowledgeable guide. Location is great as lots of other FLW homes are around. Gift shop is excellent and offers a wide variety of goods. Tour was the perfect length. Photos are allowed which is also fantastic. Definitely makes me want to explore other FLW designs in Chicago!

Yelp
Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio. Located in Oak Park, near other FLW projects and the Ernest Hemingway birth home, Tours are 20-30 dollars, depending on whether or not you take the outdoor audio tour. The interior tour is 60 minutes (ours ran longer) and the outdoor audio tour is about 45 minutes. Wright designed this home when he was young and just starting a family, early in his career, when he was still an apprentice. The neat thing about this is that you see how he evolved as an architect. Wright changed this home many times, from adding walls, changing windows, adding different veneers to wall surfaces. You also learn some about Wright's mildly scandalous personal life--leaving his wife, running off to Paris, lovers and wives, spats with associates. You also see FLW the father and the creative. You really get to know the foundation of FLW and get to see some great architecture. Lots of photo ops. The children's playroom is amazing! They have a great gift shop and the volunteer docent was great. Again, you can make a history day out of this area of Oak Park.

Yelp
I wasn't planning on taking this to her about my parents are in town and they took us. I'm an engineer, not an architecture guy, but the tour was very interesting. I certainly learned more about Frank Lloyd Wright than I ever thought I would know. All of the docents were very helpful and knowledgeable. Our tour guide was engaged and genuinely wanted us to learn, which is not surprising because they were a volunteer. It was a lot of standing so if that's hard on you, you might have some trouble.

Yelp
Touring Wright's home and studio was a good time, but I wouldn't put in the extra few bucks for the walk around the neighborhood. You get very limited information and are looking at the houses from the sidewalk. You might as well just google them (they're all on a single block) and take yourself.

Yelp
Green Neighborhood ...people are are very aware of this beautiful neighborhood...the neighborhood is beautifully cared for and protected.... I m love ing the looking forward to my new home here I'm excited for the future to this beautiful home at last, my home and family is all that matters for me

Yelp
Hard to not like this as a FLLW frequenter. Visited here on Wright Plus Walk 2023. The house and studio were the last location during the vent we toured. Really appreciated it and in getting to see the origination of the Frank Lloyd Wright name. The staff was very friendly, the tour guides were information and the different style of house from the prairie style was very interesting to me. Really loved the draft room and the studio areas. Would come back on a regular day. Only deduction is the gift shop was underwhelming.

Yelp
Sorta a bonus stop on our last day in Chicago. We did an on line search of things to do and found this. Ticket for the home studio tour were like 20$ and it was worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer questions. The home is thoughtfully preserved and presented. The tour flowed from one room to another and had ample space. Folks going on the tour please listen to the instructions at the beginning of the tour. Don't touch things and don't lean on things. An older gentleman in our tour leaned on the wall in almost every room. I cringed when I saw him do this. Especially in the dining room with the fabric covered walls and ceiling. We will need to come back in the summer and do the walking self guided tour when it is warmer and not raining.

Yelp
Went here on the hour long tour and learned a lot about the historic house from our very knowledgeable tour guide. It was great to understand more about his architectural style and history of the late 19th century. This was definitely a unique experience which inspires me to learn about the other 24 Frank Lloyd Wright structures in Oak Park in the future.

Yelp
This was a bucket list visit, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio lived up to the expectations. FLW was such an extraordinary, complicated, visionary, flawed man, and this tour encompassed all of that. Our tour guide was just about perfect. He told us how he first went on this tour many, many years earlier with this wife. He loved it so much and was so fascinated by FLW that he later went to work for the site. He answered all of our questions, and I learned so much from him. We started outside the home, taking in the windows and comparing it to other nearby homes, and then our guide brought us inside, showing how FLW's aesthetic changed over the course of his career, as seen through the features in his home. The upstairs and especially the playroom, with its seating and recessed piano were my favorite parts. And then we walked over to his studio. Loved to see where so many great structures had their beginnings. The gift shop also had a lot to take in. I ended up going home with a table runner featuring the design of a FLW skylight and a trivet with another of his designs. You can also walk around the beautiful Oak Park neighborhood to see a few more of his homes. I can now say I've been to Fallingwater and now the FLW house. Excited to see even more of his creations through future travels.

Yelp
Eyewitness Tour Book Guide told us to get tickets at the Visitor Center on Lake St. the visitor center has been closed and you need to get tickets at the FLE home and studio at 931 Chicago ave. We did the inside home tour which was great but the outside self guided tour was worth it but not for the price. The paper map was very confusing since not all the side streets have street signs. The addresses have small lettering so that added to the difficulty. The museum shop does sell cold bottled water which is refreshing on a hot day, however, the refrigerator is not clearly marked. Finally if you go on the tour there are no places to sit. You'll be standing for 60 minutes .

Yelp
Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is a must-see attraction. My husband and I had a hard time trying to find where we check-in for our tour. Enter through the gift shop and check in at the checkout register. Our tour guide John was tremendous. He took us through over 6,000 square feet of the home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed, built, and lived in. There are so many things to see and learn. John did an excellent job of explaining the history and significance of the home and studio while being funny and entertaining. The hour flew by without me realizing it. It was so much fun. I highly recommend the Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio for everyone.

Yelp
Really neat to see where things really started for Frank Lloyd Wright. I was so surprised when I saw the style of his home. Our tour guide was super informative and told us all about why his home was the style it was. He certainly knew everything there was to know about the property and Frank Lloyd Wright's story. I've now been to three separate Frank Lloyd Wright properties and in each one he has a different wife. I do enjoy hearing about his kind of crazy personal life as well. I always find it especially baffling that he literally never had any money and was always in debt. I also liked learning about his kids and just his overall lifestyle while in the home. The theatre room was especially impressive. Oak park is a really beautiful neighborhood and it was great to walk around after the official tour was over to see other houses he designed. Fair warning though if you need to get back into the city via Uber, it took us a loooonnnggg time to find someone who would pick us up in Oak Park.

Yelp
Totally worth the tour! The gift shop has great, unique gifts, too. Because I have spent so much time in Phoenix, I was well-accquainted with Wright's Phoenix homes, but not as much with where he and his Prairie architecture all began, his home in Wisconsin and life in Chicago. I was excited to see that all of our tour group, except the two of us, were international visitors. Our tour guide, coincidentally also named Frank, was extremely knowledgeable and a great guide. I was sad there were not more opportunities to ask questions, since there was so much to cover in a short time. He put many of Wright's theories and reasons for success into vivid perspective during the tour of his home and through his life as an architect in Chicago. We learned the tell-tale stamp of a Frank Lloyd Wright building, and the five pillars most important to Wright in his creation (the tour guide wanted to be sure we memorized this ;) so we did. Then sent us on our way to wander the neighboring areas to find more Wright homes and architecture, like Unity Temple.

Yelp
It was nice to geek out over FLW's studio and home since I studied architecture in college. The tour is well ran on time with an open dialogue with the house during the tour. The house is well maintained and still has most of the original furniture and decor. Truly remarkable experience if you're into architecture!

Tinsley D.

Yelp
The tour guide was wonderful & knowledgeable. It was just a fascinating & educational experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This tour was of Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio in Oak Park. There was an additional walking tour of the neighborhood houses also designed by FLW that was also very nice. The tour was about 75 minutes and included a lot of really interesting facts in addition to the beautiful designs and architecture. You can book tickets ahead online or when you arrive, if time is not flexible then would suggest booking online ahead as we did have to wait about 2 hours from our arrival to getting into the tour. In that time, we did the neighborhood walking tour which was great and stopped at a nearby coffee shop for a scone and some drinks. It's a lovely area with plenty to do so worth a trip.

Yelp
This was my second visit to FLW's home and studio in Oak Park; both times were with out-of-town friends. Though I remembered some aspects of the tour, it was enjoyable and educating regardless. The home and studio tour is 45 minutes to 1 hour and well suited for architecture novices. Our tour guide, Margarette, was charming and answered all questions as she led us through the house. Included was the restoration information as well. We learned about how FLW purposefully created his home and studio and the expansions he made throughout the years. I do recommend the walking tour, which is an independent half hour walk down the block from the museum. This can be done either before or after the tour of the main house. Even for those who aren't architecturally minded, the walking tour explains different styles and influences FLW used while working in this area. It helped to visually see examples of FLW's work and understand how he evolved as an architect. For the walking tour, we were given rather antiquated radios, but they worked effectively and the staff did wipe them with a disinfectant wipe before handing them to us. We completed the walking tour sooner than expected, and we were able to bump up our house tour time at the last minute. The staff in the gift shop couldn't have been lovelier! Speaking of, the gift shop contains so many interesting FLW-related items. Trivets, socks, ornaments, bookmarks, lamps, wrapping paper! It's hard not to buy out the whole gift shop. As a side note, parking can be difficult at this location, depending on the day and time your tour is. The home and studio is close to downtown Oak Park, so only nearby parallel parking is available. We went on a chilly day and very early in the day, so we had no problem finding a spot. But something to keep in mind nevertheless.

Steve F.

Yelp
Unimpressive house. FLW's ugliest. Sure, it was his earliest work but it's unimpressive. It's basically a workshop of various awkward attempts. Don't play it up. Our guide, an older woman, gushed about how wonderful the house was. Um, it wasn't. It's dark, disjointed, and boring. Other, later designs, in the neighborhood are better. Nothing like Los Angeles, though. Our guide tried to enlist my girlfriend to herd a couple of persistently lagging, entitled, and aloof Europeans (French or Belgian, unfortunately ...) to keep up with the rest of the group. Sorry, lady, that's YOUR job - don't try to offload your responsibilities on your charges. And, please, drop the affected French-accented 'Notre Dame'. You're an American. Speak like one, and stop kissing the asses of European tourists.

Yelp
Great tour of FLW's home and office. Fascinating. Do the walking tour after the home tour. We had a great docent.

Yelp
What a fun afternoon my friend and I had on our tour! After reading Loving Frank, we knew we had to go on this tour!! The tour was packed with amazing Information! I was in awe with the beauty of the home and how informed the tour guide was. I suggest purchasing tickets ahead of time online because they do sell out. There is plenty of street parking. You check in at the gift shop, where they have some great souvenirs to purchase. If the weather is nice you can wait on the outdoor patio for your tour to start. I would definitely recommend this tour! It's in downtown Oak Park so there are some amazing restaurants close by to dine at afterwards!

Yelp
I visited Chicago this past weekend with some family. When I was planning and researching the trip, I remembered taking this tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park home and studio when my dad took me to Chicago when I was 14 or so. It made an impression on me as a child, and I wanted to take the tour again. No one else in my group had ever taken the tour (and I would say only one of the three were FLW fans before the tour). And it lived up to the memory of that experience more than 15 years ago! First thing to know - the FLW Home and Studio isn't in Chicago proper. It's in Oak Park. Good news? It's a very short drive or a pretty short L ride. We took the train and walked through Oak Park and - on a nice day - it's a lovely walk. We bought our tickets online a few weeks before, because FLW has groupies, and I've tried to tour a couple of houses on other trips (am I a groupie myself?) and been very disappointed when I learned they were sold out. But we walked into the gift shop, picked up our tickets, and then waited in the courtyard for our tour to begin. Our tour guide was Michael, and he was absolutely wonderful. You could tell that he loved FLW architecture and that the was excited to share what he knew about the two buildings (the home and the studio). He definitely imparted passion for these two buildings and FLW architecture generally! The tour starts in the house (FLW's bedroom, the kids' bedrooms, the dining room, etc.) and ends in the studio. When you walk in, there's just something about this place. But with Michael's expert knowledge, you learn why FLW did X rather than Y and what his inspiration was. I think it's very easy to take architecture for granted. And taking a tour of this home/studio or another FLW building (they're all over) is a great gateway to exploring architecture. I was really moved by the beauty and thoughtfulness of the spaces we saw. I've done this tour twice, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. My brother (the other FLW fan in the group) loved the tour as well and decided to visit another FLW house in Chicago (the Robie House) later on during the trip (he stayed longer than me, so I missed it). My mother and our family friend (not FLW fans prior to the tour) thought it was one of the most interesting things we did throughout our time in Chicago! Great experience for the FLW groupie, architecture junkie, or for people that don't think they're into architecture as well!

Yelp
This is a fun and interesting tour. Our guide, Irene was great. I suggest taking the earliest tour available. We were able to easily find an Uber from Chicago to the location and vice versa. This was the highlight of my trip.

Yelp
Loved this tour! We had a wonderful guide who had a lot of great information. The home and studio are beautiful and a must-see for any Wright fans.

Yelp
Super cool museum tour of architecture's demigod Frank Lloyd Wright house and studio! This place is cool and the whole area is pretty amazing. There's so much to see here if you dig his style. There's houses all over the neighborhood designed by him and google maps made them easy to find. The tour itself is pretty great, you get to see his designs and ideas for a living space. It's crazy these were designed in so long ago and the detail is amazing. It goes for about an hour and there is a good amount of covid precautions in place. Since the tour groups are smaller due to covid I would totes suggest buying tour tickets online instead of buying at the place. Even still they seem to offer tours every half hour to that helps as well. Definitely a lot of history to soak up here and the whole area is a great place to walk around!

Yelp
In compare to my visit to Falling Water at Pittsburgh, this is just above average house. Obviously this house is his own home. He do not have all the money to build his house to luxury package compared to Falling Water. This is just simply a home for his family and his studio. The house feel like Japanese culture influenced. It has the little things that functions of the space. I cannot imagine house that has less room to grew his 6 children. Nothing fancy about the house. I do like the playroom to insert their piano to create more play room. Each room has good lighting and skylight. But the studio do have the fancy structure design with octagonal roof with tension holding roof. This will not work at Florida since we have hurricane. It work at Chicago since most of the load is gravity load. The studio has more detail and worth a visit.

Yelp
This was an awesome tour! Less than $20 per adult for a ticket. It was definitely worth a trip to Oak Park and getting a detailed account of his home and first studio. My favorites were 1) the children's playroom with everything built according to their size (and the grand piano that he hid the back of by suspending it over the staircase) and 2) the octagonal office in his studio, with the octagon shape being echoed again and again in different iterations going up. The tour guide did a great job of explaining not only Frank Lloyd Wright's importance to the history of American architecture but also his family life, finances, and the beginning of his career. I thought it was fun to learn about some of his personality traits, too, like how he felt defensive about his height and how he pridefully proclaimed that he was the best architect in the world. Even if you're not a FLW fan, this would be a cool tour to take!

Yelp
If you like architecture or Chicage history, the Frank Lloyd Wright House tour and Neighborhood Walking tour are a must. The house tour takes about an hour and you are led by a knowledgeable tour guide. The guide is primarily English, and there are other languages available. The walking tour is self guided audio tour. There are 10 houses and it is at your own pace. It is about 1/4 mile on paved sidewalk. Suitable for all mobility abilities, and audio is in many languages. You can also purchase a map that contains seversl more houses.

Yelp
I've visited the FLW home and studio many times over the years and I find the home a beautiful showcase of Oak Park history. The home has fun nooks and crannies and I learn something new every time I visit. The house has been part of the Chicago Architectural Center Open House also - always a good visit (is you're fast, they also have the Robie House open). There's also a cute gift shop - for all of your FLW needs.

Yelp
The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is a beautiful, historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Oak Park. And it's not just any beautiful, historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house--it's the one he designed when he was 22 (what the fuck), where he lived for years with his first wife and their six kids (definitely pulling this from Wikipedia). I actually visited five years ago, during a trip to Chicago in 2014, but I forgot to review the place and then passed by it multiple times when I was staying in Oak Park last month. You don't need to know this, but this whole paragraph is basically devoted to my Yelp OCD, and I'm just sorry that you're still reading it. Anyway, the house was gorgeous, of course. We didn't take a tour (I would like to do that one day; looking at the photos, I don't think we saw the whole house), but we did walk around and browse the gift shop, which was worth visiting on its own. Frank Lloyd Wright shit makes for great museum store kinds of gift items. We bought a picture frame, which I'm now realizing has gone unused for five years because we never print pictures. If you find yourself in or near Oak Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright Home is definitely worth seeing. It's a cool place, both inside and out. I'd like to spend more time there next time I'm in town.

Yelp
I have known this famous architect by designing Japanese Prestigious hotel. Visiting here I was so impressed of his work.

Yelp
Frank Lloyd Wright designed several buildings in this section of Oak Park, Illinois, which also includes his home and studio. It was a wonderful experience to just walk through the neighborhood for a while and look around. Taking a walk, you realize just how versatile Frank Lloyd Wright was. The first Wright design I ever encountered in person is the Guggenheim museum, a monument of abstraction, modernism and the retro future. But when you walk through Wright's old neighborhood in Oak Park, you get a totally different view of Wright's architectural genius and oeuvre. Definitely recommend a visit to Wright's old neighborhood to anyone visiting the Chicago area.

Yelp
Loved it!! We had a little debate about whether to leave downtown Chicago and spend the majority of a day in Oak Park. I'm so glad we did. I'm a fan of 20th c architecture, FLW, and historic homes, so this tour was perfect fit. The price is a little steep especially if you're bringing a family or paying for multiple adults, so we decided to forego the paid walking tour option (that includes a headset) and just do the guided tour of the house and studio. We opted instead to walk the block ourselves afterwards, it was a gorgeous day, and just chat about what we saw. We also decided not to pay the extra fee to take photos inside as there were plenty of books and cards in the shop if we needed visual reminders of the visit. The house and studio are pristinely preserved. It almost feels as if the family has just left for a moment and yum popped in to peek at the inside. Our guide was very interesting and her tour was quite polished. Although I felt a bit hurried at times (they get a lot of people though the door each hour), I thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

Yelp
Well worth a drive out to Oak Park if you are visiting Chicago. Great for the FLW fan and/or architecture fan. We bought our home tour tickets in advance, arrived at the gift shop just a few minutes before our tour and had the opportunity to lock up coats and bags (optional but I recommend as there are some tight spaces in the house). Our guide was friendly, full of great knowledge and answered all of our questions. One question she wasn't 100% sure about but went and sought out an expert after the tour for the answer. That's service! The home is very unique and because of several expansions in the time FLW lived there, the home has a lots of interesting stories. Don't forget to check out the surrounding neighborhood where there are several other privately-owned FLW houses. If it weren't a snowy and slick day out, we would have walked around more and maybe have visited the temple he designed that is also close by. Enjoy your visit!

Yelp
With it being such a gross, rainy day I was hesitant about making the drive to Oak Park for the holiday tour at the Frank Lloyd Wright house, but I was so glad I made the visit. The free hot cocoa and cookies in the gift shop (today only) and then the free tour that followed was just lovely. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and gave all sorts of background on how Frank Llyod Weight developed his prairie style. The foundation has done a great job with the restoration of the house, and the Christmas decorations bwere beautiful. This was a wonderful place to visit for a short trip, and the free holiday tour/cocoa made it all the more worthwhile!

Yelp
I've done several FLW tours across America, including others in Chicago, and this one did not disappoint. In the Oak Park neighborhood the Home and Studio and city tours run daily. The nearby Unity Temple is closed on Sunday. The home and studio tour is an hour long and gives a good view of both properties including some background on FLW, the use of the properties throughout time and of course the architecturally significant features in the properties. The guide was very knowledgeable and was a good presenter. The guide mentioned that the guides write their own tour so going on the tour again might unearth more interesting facts or a different angle on the home. Another nice service is that they have cabinets to lock up luggage and backups in while you go on the tour - no charge. So feel free to stop by on the way to or from the airport if you're a visitor.

Yelp
Okay. Neat to see the place and it definately is a beautiful house, just was constantly rushed out and told to "keep it moving" because we had other tour groups behind us. Great. Other than that it was neat to see and I'm glad I went. No need to go again, as it is a "one and done" but a little more patience would have been nice. Especially those of us who are driving long distances...ya know at $6.00 plus a gallon.

Yelp
Prairie architecture style was kind of born in Oak Park and it is probably a capitol of the Prairie style in the World. Just for that single reason, one who likes art and architecture should visit Oak Park and Frank Lloyd Wright home/studio. I do not want to dwell on the house as the Forest Drive (and adjacent street) guided tour will give you more about brilliant ideas that were developed around of turn of the 19th century. Hiden entrances and shear aesthetics that stood time is a proof that it was worth it. There is a sense that you are witnessing something special when you see these marvelous houses on the Forest Drive and the gossipy stories about not-so-nice Frank's mom have no effect on me. He was bold and he was thoughtful and I can get over his fussiness with the owners. It was well worth visiting it.

Yelp
Finally made it out to Oak Park to see the Wright Home and Studio - the Wright family's home for many decades. If you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's work, this house is not to be missed! The house is located in a quiet neighborhood in Oak Park, surrounded by lots of beautiful trees and gardens. It was very easy to find and street parking was plentiful (I was there on a Saturday, so I assume parking must be easy most days!). The house itself was not what I was expecting. While it certainly stands out amongst the Victorian homes surrounding it, the Wright Home is not in the famous prairie style. However, the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright is everywhere, most notably in his signature windows, which are gorgeous! It was really fascinating to see all of these little details around the home that hint at his developing architectural style. The tour guides were wonderful and filled with lots of great facts and stories. Masks are no longer required for vaccinated people, and the guides did a great job of making everyone feel comfortable with wearing masks or not. The tour costs $20, with the option to donate more to support the trust. I HIGHLY recommend this tour to any FLW fan, but also to anyone who enjoys seeing beautifully restored old homes. It was a great tour!
