Before heading to DC Temple, Tyler and I had dinner at Frankly...Pizza!, a pizzeria in the heart of Kensington. Reservations for indoor or outdoor dining are encouraged as most nights are fully booked. Their patio is heated and covered. We had an outdoor reservation but were nice enough to allow us to sit inside because of the cold rainy weather. Lily was friendly and attentive.
After glancing over the drink menu, I knew I wanted the Red Shedman Raspberry Hard Cider. As for Tyler, he couldn't decide between two wines (Lobetia Cabernet Sauvignon and Tsp Wines Coted Du Rhone) and it was nice to be able to try both before picking one.
They have a variety of red and white pizza. A pizza can be gluten-free if reserved at least 24 hours in advance and for an additional $4. They are personal size pizza - about 11-12 inches. You may add romano, extra sauce, fresh garlic, EVOO, crimini mushrooms, spinach, basil, arugula, mozzarella, ricotta, olives, roasted peppers, pickled jalapeños, anchovy, pepperoni, house sausage, and house bacon to any pizza for an additional fee. Every pizza is finished with olive oil.
We decided to get two of their most popular pizzas - Spinach Pie and Mushroom Pie. The Spinach Pie consisted of fresh garlic, mozzarella, caramelized onions, spinach, salt, gruyere, romano, and lemon. The Mushroom Pie consisted of mozzarella, crimini mushrooms, shallots, parsley, gruyere, romano, and porcini salt. Between the two pies, we liked the Spinach Pie because it's sweet and savory. We finished on a sweet note. The Lime Cream Cake consisted of coconut graham cracker crust topped with a coconut cream anglaise and lime zest. It was delicate and smooth like a cheesecake. It's definitely worth saving room for.
