"The coastal-inspired menu at Frank’s Outback is served alfresco “out back” of the restaurant building in a magical, garden-like setting under a canopy of lush live oaks. Indulge in creative twists on Southern dishes, like its version of shrimp and grits, pan-fried grouper, and homemade cheese biscuits or jalapeno pimento cream cheese." - Ashley Daniels

Took my Girlfriend there for Valentines dinner. Was told by others it was a romantic place to go. Reservations were at 8:30 kinda late but all they had left. Mark the waiter was ok. My Girlfriend got the Wild Boar meatloaf, I got the cooked two way Duck. The food kinda tasted like diner food and we finished with creme Brule that was half cooked half warm half cold. Now the outback of this place was Beautifully decorated too bad it wasn't warmer out we would of sat out there. So after our over 100.00 bill which was fine for a good meal. But this was far from that. After getting home ended up in the Bathroom sick not A good dinner out at all.

WOW!!! We have said we’ve wanted to dine here for the longest time. Ultimately decided to have an overnight stay in Pawley’s Island and do it right. This establishment is magnificent. We dined inside and our server was Louis. He was knowledgeable about the menu, very attentive without being intrusive. We started with G.O.O.P. the roasted head of garlic, olives and capers in EVOO. Cocktails were generous. Our entrees were prepared perfectly and the mixed berry cobbler was made in-house. 100% Chef’s Kiss!

Google
Frank's has been recommended by quite a few people since we moved over the summer. My husband and I finally tried it out last night. Everything we had was delicious! Highly recommend their High Cotton Old Fashioned,4 he fried deviled eggs, and the blue crab ravioli. If they have the wild boar meatloaf as a special when you go- get it. You won't be disappointed! We sat inside- great ambiance and service.

Google
Great restaurant that had a fun and intimate atmosphere with delicious food! We ordered bread (which is complimentary but you have to ask for it) and deep fried deviled eggs for appetizers. The deviled eggs are delicious and had a little potato in it too with the crispy pieces of prosciutto. Then the braised short rib was really delicious! The mashed potatoes were creamy and the meat melted in your mouth with a slight crunch from the French fried onions. We all really enjoyed all our meals but one of the steaks came out a bit under done. Still really well seasoned though. Then, we got several desserts! The caramel cake is wonderful but it is quite sweet! The key lime cheesecake is also really delicious as well as the cobbler! Overall, a really good meal and great desserts! The service was fairly good. The waitress came by several times but our drinks weren’t filled out as much as we wanted. However, the waitress did mess up our bills when we tried to get them split up between us. The atmosphere was awesome! It had fun twinkly lights and some nice fans since it was hotter outside and the restaurant is outside but it’s covered so if it’s raining, you will still be okay. There were live plants throughout which was nice as well.

Google
The grounds were very pretty with all the lights and hearts. The food was not so good. I had the boar meat loaf. It was dry and tasted like a lot of chili powder was used in it. My boyfriend had the Duck prepared 2 ways. It was rubbery, and he got violently ill by the time we got home.

Went about a month ago for our Anniversary. The flavor on each item was unique and left behind a powerful food memory. Loved the devil fried egg. The stuffed chicken special with cream, prosciutto & mushrooms amazing. I like to add a citrus on creamy dishes , used lemon to squeeze overtop. My husband had the fried grouper. I didn’t have to ask how he liked it..his plate was empty.

Google
There is so much local hype about this Pawley’s Island gem that I felt surely it couldn’t measure up. But it did, and then some! We ate outdoors, late September, and the ambience is absolute perfection. Cool, quiet, covered in trees, fairy lights and beautiful thriving plants. We ordered a ridiculously scrumptious appetizer of roasted garlic with olives and capers (called G.O.O.P.) and could have stopped there. It was incredible. My husband ordered lamb chops and I, the shrimp & grits, and we shared the warm caramel cake for dessert. Everything, EVERYTHING, was cooked to perfection and served by the best server we have ever had anywhere. (Her name is Christina and you need to try to sit in her section!) It was our anniversary, and it was PERFECT! Thank you, Frank’s!

Google
We come here every time we're in Pawleys and usually love it. This time we didn't. I don't know what happened but none of us enjoyed the food this time, seemed like the atmosphere was more important than the cooking. I didn't want to say anything and spoil everyone's time but everyone agreed once we were back at the beach house. Pizza is usually great, this one was terrible, the salads also terrible and a crazy price for what they are

Yelp
One of the best restaurants. The food was to die for. WOW. The short rib and the caramel cake were unreal. I have thought about that cake every day since I had it back in October. I truly can't get over it. My favorite app was definitely the low country spring roll. Amazing. I had the pan seared grouper and I liked it pretty good, but there was better food at the table! I hope I get to come back here very soon. Service was also great.

Shauna W.

Yelp
The food was amazing, delicious. Wait staff nice, professional, knowledgeable & attentive. Great ambiance. Fun to see the chefs working. I especially loved the fine dining look, but casual dress! Fabulous restaurant. The Outback part is supposed to be really super too!

Stephan C.

Yelp
Date night. I decided to try Franks. I was thrilled! The ambience was spectacular! On the level of a few Caribbean restaurants I've been to. It was a first date for us and it was perfect from beginning to end. Our waitress was newly engaged and very nice. The entire staff were fun. I'll be back often.

Katherine R.

Yelp
Franks is a local favorite for a reason they have fantastic food, drinks, and atmosphere! The only down sides are you need to book ahead of time and their parking lot needs to be bigger lol. Still completely worth it their prices are reasonable for the great food and their patio atmosphere cannot be beat!

Joan G.

Yelp
The biggest tip I can give you, is make reservations. The hardest thing to do, is to make reservations. We did have reservations but we had called two months ahead of time. We both love Frank's Outback when there is good weather. They do have two bars. We were lucky enough to get a seat at one of them where we ordered cocktails. I must say, it was the best chocolate martini that I have ever had. We decided to split the fried oysters although the fried deviled eggs were whispering our names. Dinner consisted of the pork chops for him and the small filet for me. My dish came with mashed potatoes and fried onion rings. Both of our meals were outstanding. Would I come back here? We both agreed the next time it would be the fried deviled eggs. If you see me there, stop by and say hello.

Susan M.

Yelp
Let's just say if I could give 10 STARS I would! Frank's outback is the BEST at Pawleys. The servers are all PROS! And make sure your drinks are filled and food is steamy! And the environment is bursting with charm, tiny white lights, ferns, light music and fountains. Our group had 5 entrees that were all over the top with fried oysters as the appetizer and Carmel layered cake with icecream as our dessert! See the photos. Coming back again and again!

Sarra G.

Yelp
What an amazing place, the atmosphere, food and service, all great! This building goes on and on with so much seating! The food was spectacular!

Randy M.

Yelp
Great place for good food and great service. We come here quite a bit lots of great choices and you can tell they take pride in what they do!

Shelby S.

Yelp
The ambiance is fantastic, service impeccable and food has been consistently outstanding each time I had the pleasure of dining at Frank's Outback.

Chip C.

Yelp
Food and service excellent. Very busy but we weren't rushed nor forgotten by the staff.

Shirley A.

Yelp
I've been going to Franks snd Franks Outback since I moved here in 1996 and have always been more than happy, but the last time I went, I had to send my steak back as it was way undercooked and, I might add, grisly. it was a petite filet and should not have been grisly at all. They did cook me another and this one was cooked properly, but it too was very fatty. Needless to say, I was qui disappointed. I love Franks and will definitely give it another chance. I hope this was just a one time thing.

Claudia P.

Yelp
Literally everything was perfect except how obviously dismissive our server was. I don't think the person I was with picked up on it but I'm going to assume it's because we are younger (late 20s) and were without a doubt the youngest people in there that night. Anyway, after only checking on us once throughout our meal.. when he realized after walking away that his tip equaled the bill, all of a sudden we were worthy of the same attention everyone else there was getting. It was disappointing and it was obviously too late then. I'm not mad, I just hope that he learned the "don't judge a book by the cover" lesson. Will definitely be back. Just something I hope can be sorted so that all ages and demographics feel welcome.

Jane L.

Yelp
Went tonight with five other guests- everyone loved their food ! Great appetizers, very attentive waiter and staff and all around terrific setting. We had reservations for inside and the table was ready when we arrived. Highlights were the tuna tacos, pimento jalapeño wanton chips and the crab cakes. Filet in both small plate size and 8 oz size were great, as was the lamb chops and the snapper special! Highly recommend a visit! We will be back for sure!

Cara I.

Yelp
I came with a group of 5 for my bachelorette party. My sister booked us a reservation only a few days before our trip on a friend's recommendation. They were shocked we were able to get a table, apparently Frank's books up months in advance. I could not have been more impressed. We started with a round of cocktails and several appetizers to share. I ordered the Pan Seared Bahamian Grouper and loved every bit. I could not put my fork down even if I wanted to! The restaurant surprised me with a sparkler dessert of my choice, we had a skillet cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a round of espresso martinis. I bought a tee shirt on the way out. My fiance called in advance and made arrangements to pay for our first round of drinks. The hostess (maybe manager) came to the table with a card and let us know our drinks were covered. How special of them to arrange this! I couldn't recommend Frank's more and would love to return if I'm back in Myrtle soon.

Jeff J.

Yelp
Food was awesome and the service impeccable! The inside setting was nice and the outside area looked very nice.

Tiara T.

Yelp
Came for the first time for a friend's birthday and was not disappointed. The duck was unbelievably good! The ambience at night is perfect for special occasions. The outside bar area is cute and a great place for pictures as well. Would definitely recommend!

Thu D.

Yelp
They have a big parking lot on the side and the back of the restaurant so you don't have to worry about parking space. We're in Pawsley Island for vacation and the restaurant is really close by. The place is easy to get crowded even on a weekday night so reservation is highly recommended. The dining area inside are cozy but the outdoor dining area looks very nice too. It's close to Halloween so the decor around the restaurant follows that theme. Good food and nice ambience. We had: - Fried oysters: it was okay. - Bahamian sautéed conch: the sauce of this dish is delicious but you won't taste the conch meat as much since it mixed too well with fried batter. - Grilled 6 Ounce Filet of Beef: the red wine sauce substitute is very good. - Fish of the day-pan seared flounder: very tender and tasty - Chocolate brownie and vanilla icecream for dessert: togo Our server is very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. He had the bar mixed up a delicious mocktail for me, suggested a nice sauce to substitute with the sauce that go with the beef since my boyfriend doesn't like blue cheese. He also packed the leftover with special paper layer so it doesn't leak through the paper togo box. He also suggest the dessert for togo since we were too full but still want to try the dessert. All in all, we had a very good experience. We will definitely come back when we're in town the next time.

Yelp
Frank's is a classic, favorite of locals, and one of the top fine restaurants on Pawleys. When I say classic, I'm suggesting that if Humphrey Bogart opened a restaurant here, this would be it. This place could have been in Casablanca... We have been coming to Pawleys for decades, Franks has been at the top of the food chain for at least that long.... It's always been dependable in our experience... never a disappointment, never anything but exceptional... It can be difficult to get reservations, so book early. If you need to try to get a spot at the bar, which can be at the bar or near the bar... either way, that can be a solution to limited seating... It's filled with dark wood... dark ceilings, floors... etc. as mentioned it's classic. Service has always impressed us as much as the atmosphere. Servers are very professional. The bar is impressive. Never had a bad drink. The wine list is excellent... there should be something for every taste. We started with the beet salad. Beats, hearts of palm, goat cheese, arugula, an exceptional sweet/salty dressing of some sort. Great salad. We have always gone for seafood, hey it's Pawleys... the last meal was a special not on the menu, Halibut. It came with some vegetables that I didn't care for, so we swapped that out for butter beans and black eyed peas... the fish was over mushroom risotto... there was a great Unami type sauce that was simply delicious with the fish. Neither of us could finish the plate. Plenty of food. Oh, we paired this with a mineral rich Sauvignon from Touraine, France. If I had room far a desert it might have simply been a glass of port. No doubt, this is a must try place. Also without doubt, it will be on our list next trip here.

Amy P.

Yelp
Okay, so I have eaten here a few times and the first two times was good but I couldn't say I was blown away. Those times I tried the salmon and the crab cake - both of which were good, at least 4 stars. This last time I tried the short rib and it was incredible! Such depth of flavor! I definitely would go back just to eat that again!

Nikhil R.

Yelp
Pretty good spot if you're looking for some good seafood and food in general. The fish bites are nicely fried fresh fish served with an excellent dipping sauce. I also really liked their ribs. The salad itself was very OK and looked like something you would get in a cafeteria.

William P.

Yelp
We have been vacationing in Pawleys Island for 30+ years, and we always eat at Frank's at once. It has never disappointed us. The rack of lamb is one of our favorites.

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Went for anniversary dinner after hearing so much about Frank's. Seated inside quickly and server was a professional through and through. Everything was efficiently delivered, excellent recommendations and very polite. We appreciated the recommendations because there are so many good options on the menu. The food, as expected, was exceptional and the desserts were phenomenal. Our friends go early and sit outside where you get the same great food in a more casual setting, but for a special, or romantic, experience the inside dining is a great choice!

David C.

Yelp
Was in the Outback area for a wedding party tonight, though very nice and I recommend parties there, what was incredible was later. It was almost 9:30 (closing) and my wife and I wanted a quick dinner thinking it would be open late on a Friday. Nope... Well Sandra took us by the hand... got us a table quickly and literally we ordered including a bottle of Rombauer Chardonnay ( which was perfect!) having Dawn and Isabelle treat us like royalty and our dinner was there so fast we could not believe it!! The grouper was incredible but the service and culture of this restaurant from these three ladies was world class... and this comes from a wine collector ( which are always foodies) and lucky enough to eat at the greatest restaurants here and abroad. I could not have more praise for Frankie's and these 3 ladies who make it special!!! Kudos

Kasey G.

Yelp
I don't understand what is going on with Frank's. Been going here for years. It was consistent for a long time and now for the last two years it's been very inconsistent. They had a new chef that was awful and the portions were really really small. They have a new chef now and it started out great and now the portions are just a small. I'm not sure how the chefs are getting paid. It must be on the quantity of food that they're using. 10 of us had dinner there and none of us liked our food. The waitress was awful which is extremely unusual there. She forgot everything brought the wrong food out. It was crazy. No manager came over and said how is everything. The place is packed and I'm sure they will not miss us.

MA G.

Yelp
Told the waitress I'm gluten and dairy free due to actual illnesses. Ordered the pork chop. It's marinated in soy sauce. Tasted it immediately and gave it to my friend. It was delicious but not worth the stomach upset. Staff should be trained better.

Susan P.

Yelp
I will start by saying Franks will become one of our places to eat when we visit each year. My husband and I have been camping for 28 years at Huntington Beach State Park and we always saw this little restaurant off to the side and this year we finally decided to eat there. To start with, it was clear they value experienced waiters. Our waiter was very good. He was very knowledgeable and patient. He was able to answer a lot of our questions about the menu, We ordered drinks prior to our meal. My husband had their high cotton old-fashioned, which he said, tasted very good however, he wished that the cherry had been, mulled. I had their St Citrus cocktail and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's been one of the best tasting cocktails. I've had in a while, For dinner, I had the 6 ounce fillet of beef, which was probably the most tender fillets I have tasted in a very long while. It was seasoned, had a phenomenal taste mixed with the shiitake mushroom and there house mashed potatoes. My husband had their blue crab cake appetizer. It was filled with more crab meat than we expected. Nice surprise there along with the pomegranate reduction it was served with. . He was quite impressed with the pomegranate reduction that was added to the plate. Nice touch. My husband also had their signature grouper. He did enjoy his meal but he felt it could've been seasoned a little more for him but overall it was cooked with a wonderful crust from the grill. I also ordered their crème brûlée, which I do when I am out at any restaurant. Their crème brûlée was nice however the top was a little too burnt for me which took away from the custard taste. The atmosphere and the restaurant was very homelike and not too loud. The ambience was very personal and quiet. Overall, our experience and enjoyment of our meal far outweighed any small issues we had and that is why I gave a five star review. Well recommended.

Kay W.

Yelp
Divine. Go for the food stay late for the demeanor of the employees. Food is excellent, service trumps that. Ask to be seated in Rob's section. He's amazing!

Truman D.

Yelp
Last night my husband and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Franks. Our waiter Kerry was very attentive. We enjoy going to Franks for special occasions and last night was one of them. A special thank you to the couple (R&B) who sat near us it was nice talking to them and thank you for your generosity and prayers. We will definitely be back. God bless.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Food and ambience were awesome....but the best part was our server Alex. He was super friendly, informative and guided us through the menu and specials. All our food and drink were great, but the highlights were the pimento cheese appetizer, the goat cheese salad (forget the name), crab cakes and the salted caramel martini. But there is not a bad thing on the menu. Recommend reservations if you want to sit inside.

NolanandMaryjo N.

Yelp
We never got to the food due to the rude staff that greeted us at the door. We were told the kitchen was closing but others in front of us were seated and given menus... maybe we weren't your typical type of customers ...but my money is the same. Too bad you wouldn't serve my family of 5. We had just pulled in town and just wanted good food. Oh well.

Ann F.

Yelp
We had 5pm reservations at Franks Outback. We were seated immediately and the service was excellent. Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere. We will be back!

Melissa G.

Yelp
Wow wow wow!!!!! This place is amazing! We live out of state and came here for our anniversary. The service was outstanding (thank you Isabell!!!) the food was to die for! We got the shrimp and grits and the grouper and it was so delicious! It's so beautiful here, I plan on coming back so many more times!

David H.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere for group of 8 but my cocktail went missing and the andouille sausage was not present in the chicken and sausage fettucine for two of us. Seated quickly thanks to reservations but parking was a disaster and risked a vacant lot next door. Highlight of dinner was ice cream cones at Paradise further up US 17.

Phil P.

Yelp
Anniversary celebration night and our first ever meal at Franks. The grounds alone are worthy of a visit as both the inside and outside of the restaurant are a treat. We strolled along out in the back yard admiring at least three bars each with their own elegant yet casual ambiance! We went inside for our seating overlooking the kitchen and were introduced by our waiter for the evening Bruce. We started with champagnes my wife had some French 75 while I had a Strawberry Fizz. Both were refreshing and delightful. Next up was a conch fritter appetizer. Lightly pan fried with a citrus wine sauce. For our entrees we had duck two ways and a 14oz pork chop. The confit duck was shredded and richly decadent, the pan seared duck breast was good. My pork chop was perfectly seasoned and one of the best I have ever had. For dessert Bruce brought us a slice of tower maple cake and vanilla ice cream while singing happy anniversary and showing off a bit of fireworks. A great night at a great restaurant.

Sammi C.

Yelp
The service is attentive and servers are kind, but lately the food has been under par and overpriced. We used to come here a lot for the food and ambiance but now the food menu is way too overpriced for the quality you get. My mom and boyfriend ordered the new Chicken Francese and were both very disappointed and barely ate it. For a $30 chicken dish it was unacceptable. Unfortunate, to see the decline in quality and increase in price here.

M D.

Yelp
Had a party of 9 and everyone was pleased with their meals. It will be on our list for next year when we will be back. Wish we had known about this restaurant in the past.

Lisa G.

Yelp
We arrived without a reservation and asked the hostess what our options were. She suggested we sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen. We did and it was such a treat! We watched as the chef prepared the meals and even interacted with the head chef. He was very kind and very talented. Our food was excellent and we will definitely return and ask for those same seats!

David B.

Yelp
What a great date night! JR was an amazing server! Our steak was cooked perfectly, and all the sides were wonderful... we highly recommend Frank's!

Larry S.

Yelp
Food was very good, loved the ambiance of the place. My only disappointment was it was a special occasion and our server asked us at the beginning but no acknowledgment after that!

G S.

Yelp
The food and service was absolutely AMAZING!! This is by far a 5star restaurant. I ordered the filet with asparagus and mashed potatoes, which was phenomenal! Everything was perfectly cooked and so delicious! I can bet anything you order on the menu is going to be good! This was our first time visiting and with no question we will make this place a must every trip here!! Atmosphere is classy and laid back. You get a since of home!! Love this place!! Highly recommend!!

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
The atmosphere at Franks (whether inside or Outback) is unbeatable! And their food is always delicious. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. We always enjoy dining here

Meghan M.

Yelp
A local recommended Franks to us while in town visiting family. This is one of the best meals I have had. Fried devil eggs were very good and different. The tuna nachos were to die for as the filet, caramel cake, and GOOP.

Jeff J.

Yelp
Honestly surprised at some of the negative reviews here recently. If I need a consistently excellent restaurant to recommend confidently, it's Frank's. Make sure you have a reservation. Last time we were torn between the outback experience and inside dining, but glad we went inside this time because we had a wonderful server in J.R. Down-home southern and with a very dry sense of humor. We had a two-top corner booth and the light directly over the table began to dim as it started to burn out. He said they were just turning our table into the most romantic one in the house. And we believed it!

Mark S.

Yelp
Great place with very good service. Outside is the place anytime of the year. Be sure to book 2 to 4 weeks in advance.

John N.

Yelp
Excellent food & Service. Grouper was perfectly prepared with just the right amount of spices. Brian our server was friendly, quick and he provided excellent suggestions.

Scott C.

Yelp
Service is very snooty or poor at best...food is never great....just ok...I think most folks like the atmosphere, but compared to Piccolo Cafe, Chive Blossom, Pawleys Tap and Pour and other newer venues, it hasn't lived up to their past...they're resting on their laurels and they're not worth you time nor your money...

Greg R.

Yelp
Ambiance was great! Our waitress, Payton, was excellent! Very fun and engaging!! My wife and I were intrigued with the fried deviled eggs so we decided to give them a try and they were awesome! I ordered the Wedge salad and the tenderloin medallions small plate and was perfectly cooked at Medium rare! My wife ordered the Soy and Ginger Salmon which she loved!

Carol W.

Yelp
went to Frank's for my husbands birthday after night of 1,000 candles on Dec 6 th 2024 I worked in food and Bev for 35 years I have never experienced a waitress like OLGA FROM RUSSIA She is worth her weight in gold to the owners of this restaurant- food was awesome a little disappointed in the Goop ( roasted garlic ) but everything else was amazing thanks again to Olga for making our special night amazing Carol Watters former food and Bev worker for 35 years

Terry H.

Yelp
Made reservations a month out for my wife's birthday, should have known as we walked in the place, 6pm and the dining room was 3/4 EMPTY! First off we were pointed to the tiny back room when I noticed 2-3 other tables in the dining room, guess they were saving them for regulars! Anyway we sat in the middle of the back room facing the loud kitchen. It took 5 minutes for the waiter to find us then another 10-15 minutes to get our drinks in a dining room 1/4 filled. My wife was looking forward to a filet & baked Potato! Wow, wrong restaurant! All they had to offer was the ($56) 8° a la carte filet with nothing! She decided on shrimp, we both loved the horseradish sauce!!! I finally decided on the two (2) tasteless silver dollar size crab cakes with collar greens & grits. Horrible combination which I tried but just ate 1 of the cakes. Crab cakes was a highly OVER RATED $37. The jalapeno pimento cheese dip was actually the best tasting thing that was brought out of the kitchen! As for service, like I said we waited 15 minutes to get drinks, another 20 to get meals, then another 15 minutes to get my card back after paying the bill! ALL THIS IN A (by then) 1/2 FILLED dining room. We are locals that tried FRANKS but it will be the last time eating at this HIGHLY OVER RATED RESTAURANT! GO ELSEWHERE! Guess they PI residents don't mind poor tasting food at high end prices! Never again!
