Dave was right.
This was a matter of thorough discussion with Jeremy before we went to Frank's. If you follow Mr. One-Bite, you may have seen that he gave both Pizza John's in Essex, and Rocco's in Glen Burnie high marks. Jeremy and I hated both (Rocco's pizza was burnt, Pizza John's is highly over-rated), so Jeremy refused to respect that Dave gave Frank's high marks for both the pizza and the cheesesteak.
The restaurant was crowded when we arrived, and we had to ask a regular how to go about ordering. You order at the counter and they give you a number, which they will call out when your food is ready. You seat yourself.
Although the front door was open, it was super warm in the restaurant, which makes sense considering the pizza oven never gets a break. We got a plain cheese pizza, wings, and a cheesesteak. The pizza was incredible; the crust is impossibly thin, yet remains straight when you fold it. Not greasy at all, and flavorful. I could have probably eaten the entire pie myself. I had two slices while in the restaurant, and another later at home, room-temperature and still perfection. The wings were good, but not stand-out. The cheesesteak (grilled onions and cooper sharp)... I'm sad that Frank's is in Overlea and not in my town. Or maybe that's for the best, because I'd eat them all the time. The best cheesesteak that we've eaten outside of Philly.
Service is a little spotty. I can understand that it gets confusing when so many orders are coming in all the time, but we dined with a friend, who ordered a stromboli but Jeremy and I were halfway done eating and our friend's food hadn't arrived, so he asked them to box his stromboli. He watched the employee box it, and then she disappeared. It took asking three more employees before they could find it because they had labeled it as for Clark. Our friend is not named Clark. And when we asked for boxes for the remainder of our sandwich and pizza, the employee only brought one box for the sandwich. The three remaining slices of pizza wouldn't fit in the box, and the employee seemed slightly annoyed when we asked for another box. Again, I can understand that the dinner rush must get overwhelming and tiresome, so we just shrugged it off.
I would definitely order from Frank's again. I don't think I would dine in again, though. Simply because the warmth of the restaurant and the small size of the dining area. I'm definitely going to need another one of those cheesesteaks. And a customer who told me that she has been ordering from Frank's for over 30 years highly recommended the pizza (they have it by the slice, too, by the way) with the eggplant and I adore eggplant.
