Ann Arbor’s Best Sports Bars for Watching March Madness | Eater Detroit

"Fraser’s has been a legendary neighborhood tavern for more than 50 years. The classic pub menu, a craft beer list populated with mostly Michigan beers, and the short walk to the football stadium make it an ideal spot for a pre-game meal and drinks. Abundant TV screens keep more than a few fans around for the game." - John Reyes

Google
They serve alcohol, staff is friendly but took a while to come see us, they have a scan to use menu and guest wifi so you can view the menu but don't share the wifi code. The food came quickly enough, however the burger we received were all ordered medium, they arrived unseasojed qnd so well don't the meat was crumbling. The fries are ok, but taste mildly like fish for some reason, the burgers say "half pound" but each of our burgers were a different size. Overall I would rate the burger combo a 3 out of 10 and feel generous about that rating. I will enquire if this is their standard or just a one off, I will give this place a second chance and change my review if the quality improves

Fraser’s Pub is hands down one of my favorite spots in town. It’s everything a great local pub should be—welcoming, laid-back, and full of character. The owners clearly put a lot of heart into the place, and it shows in every detail—from the friendly staff to the great food and drink selection. The atmosphere is that perfect mix of cozy and lively. Whether you're there to watch the game, catch up with friends, or just unwind with a pint, it always feels like the right choice. The staff are incredible—warm, attentive, and always make you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first time in. It’s one of those rare places where the people, the vibe, and the experience all come together effortlessly. Truly a gem of a neighborhood pub. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out.

Google
Cheap drinks, mozz sticks were just OK. Neighborhood sports bar vibe. Good place to grab a late night beer/drink - good value. Unique from typical Ann arbor $$$ pricing as this is affordable. Would come again

Google
Visited Fraser’s Pub and loved the authentic UMICH vibe inside, creating a sense of belonging. The Labatt Blue beer is a favorite, and the snacks – nachos, fries, and tater tots with cheese, tomatoes, diced onions, and jalapeños – were all delicious. The overall atmosphere is fantastic. Can’t wait to bring my friends back here for another enjoyable experience!

Google
This place received a major face-lift since the last time I frequented here in the early 1980s. Nice to pop in here for a beer while grandma takes the grandkids next door to the Dairy Queen.

Google
It's annual tradition after a round at UofM to come to Frasers for some grub. Always good food & service. Seems we always have the same server and she is great!

Great food and prompt service on a Saturday night! I appreciate the variety of music to complete a good dinner experience.

Nice spot for drinks. Great food and well planned menu. Service is always attentive and friendly.

Yelp
The best sports bar in town by a mile. Surprisingly good food (seriously try the specials), good drink variety. It can be loud, but usually that's because there's a notable game on TV, so you kind of want it to be loud haha Super spacious interior with tons of seating. Service can be a tad slow because of the size, but they're super friendly! Favorite place to go any night of the week

Yelp
Fraser's Pub fits like an old shoe, offering great pub food and local craft beer without a hint of pretentiousness. Example: the signature Fraser's patty melt, a half-pound of ground beef topped with melted Swiss cheese and grilled onions, served between two slices of perfectly toasted rye bread. The patty, made with beef from local Knight's Market, was cooked medium rare, exactly as I ordered it. I washed it down with a glass of Zombie Dust from just across the border in Indiana. Sit at the bar for the friendliest service ever.

Yelp
Some places, I keep to myself and I don't want to share on Yelp what makes them my regular stops. Perhaps somewhat paradoxically, they are often my favorite places. They aren't necessarily "the best," but my favorite. Get the difference? Anyway... I kept my Fraser's review to myself for YEARS. Since I am less of a regular now (due to loss of proximity and life circumstances, not interest), I think it's time... Fraser's Pub is the "Cheers" of Packard. Don't be put off if it's your first visit. You might feel less than welcome, but wear them down... Come again. If they see you more than once or twice, they are likely to know your name and greet you with happy familiarity. Belly up at the bar with the regulars and you are likely to be drawn into conversation. If not in the mood to chat, there are lots of televisions, playing whatever sports event is on at the moment. This is a destination bar for Michigan games, so come early if you want a seat. During the biggest games, the bar will be a few rows deep. The food is really good! I have tried almost everything on the menu - favorites include the burgers, chicken wraps, and wet burrito. After a long hiatus, I usually find myself ordering the nachos. Don't ask me why - I can't explain it - But, I crave 'em. There was a recent change in ownership. They have kept the staples and started offering daily specials that have kicked the menu up a notch. Go to Fraser's. Become a regular. Repeat.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
Fraser's is your local bar by definition. The food is consistent, service is good, and they have decent specials. I like the relaxed environment and we can also walk there from where we are. Recommended if you want a true local spot. They aren't trying to be more than what they are.

Yelp
Love this bar. Best pub around Ann Arbor by far. Very personable staff and owners! Love Camryn, Maddie, Ben, Clare, Lindsey, Frankie, and the rest of the staff. Just really a neighborhood pub with integrity and passion in their great food.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
I returned to this neighborhood "pub" after a nearly thirty year hiatus (I used to come here when I was a student at the University of Michigan) and found a clean and pleasant venue to watch sports and/or enjoy some decent bar food. The burgers, fries and onion rings were all excellent. Frazier's very, very old reputation as a student dive bar is apparently long gone and anyone will feel comfortable and enjoy themselves here.
google avatar

Ed W.

Yelp
This is a nice Ann Arbor staple. I understand it has been around since the sixties, and it is certainly apparent why it has staying power. The staff are all very friendly and the food is quite good. There is a decent beer selection, plus a full bar. The atmosphere is a bit dank and dark. I don't think a little more light would hurt anything.

Bill L.

Yelp
Perfect place to watch a game and have a beer. Menu is classic bar food and they have a great selection of beer on tap. Service is super quick and friendly. Worth a stop!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Why does this place only have 3.5 stars? It's dive bar perfection. I can see why they've been around so long and probably will be around forever.

Brandon W.

Yelp
Great local spot. Everyone was friendly. Local spot good vibe. Service was excellent. I would go there for beers the food was ok.

Yelp
Love this place. Chill vibe, friendly staff, good food. The pickle fries are amazing! It's my boyfriend and my new "go to" place.

Yelp
There are few things I love more than a game of trivia, and trivia at a new place is always a treat! I decided to mix up my usual routine and check out Fraser's Pub this past weekend for a game. Located on Packard St away from the downtown core, the first big bonus to Fraser's is ample free parking. We were able to snag a spot before heading in to play. Most of the tables there were playing that evening, so we were lucky to get a 6-top to accommodate our larger group. Our server promptly greeted us and took our orders. I decided to try the nachos and see how they compared to my usual spot. Food came out quickly and soon I was sharing my chips around the table. As far as nachos go, these were ok. The chips were a bit heavy and thick, and they could have done with a little bit more cheese and some better-distributes toppings. I ate all of my salsa trying to give the overall dish a little more flavor. Happily, we ended up doing well enough in trivia to get a gift card. With our winnings and the great service, we will definitely be back!

Katherine M.

Yelp
Had a great time at Frazier's with the boys. Long islands were great, big portions on the food.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
In a land of trendy, elitist college town restaurants that cater to the latest food fads, Fraser's has stayed true to their original theme of burgers and fried stuff. The food is always quality and well prepared. Great place to hang out and watch sports. As an Ann Arbor "townie" who happens to be a Spartan, I even feel welcome here. One of the friendliest places in Ann Arbor. They have modernized a bit over the years buy haven't gone over the top. I hope they never lose their charm.
google avatar

Harish V.

Yelp
Been here with Team after work and it was ok. This place looks more like old school. Not too many Choices on Tap. Irritating part is they did not have a menu for beers and we had to look at the Tv . Good Parking space and Quick Service.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Went to the pub for some Trivia and had a blast. The young lady who ran the Trivia did a great job. She was easy to understand and played great music while we played. The pub was clean, had nice servers and the fries were good. The drinks were cold and refreshing and BTW we came in 2nd both times. Fun time for all!
google avatar

Nate S.

Yelp
Great spot - I only wish they'd turn on some music during the lunch hour. When you go to a bar for a quick lunch you don't expect to sit in awkward silence. Yes, there's an Internet jukebox that will let you play songs for almost a dollar per song but then playing music is just as expensive as lunch - so I don't visit this lunch spot as much as I'd like to.

Yelp
Fraser's Pub for breakfast??? Really??? Universally known as a Wolverine/Townie hangout on Packard, Fraser's usually serves as the place to stop in for a quick IPA while watching UM, the Lions, Tigers or Red Wings compete for a victory. This is a dark and comfortable sports bar with a distinct Arbor-town feel to it. So, you can imagine my surprise to find that it opens at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning for breakfast! With a hot cup of Joe in hand instead of a beer, my wife ordered a modified custom Omelette while I jumped on Fraser's Corned Beef Hash w/ a pair of sunny-side-ups while ESPN's Sports Center discussed the OSU-Northwestern Big 10 football championship game. Food, service and the familiar surroundings of Fraser's Pub delivered an overall 4-star experience. Nice experience in a spot that I never thought I'd have anything more that a plate of Nachos and a cold beer.
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
My children and grandchildren arrived prior to me and were placed in outdoor seating. While it wasn't particularly cold, it was cool and they weren't dressed for the weather. I arrived with a sandwich and was asked to leave even after I revealed I'd be paying for everyone's meal. (five people) I offered to purchase a meal for myself as well. While I understand that they are within their rights I just thought it was excessive given my willingness make sure they would suffer no financial hurt. I'll NEVER go back.

G D.

Yelp
This townie institution lets you get away from downtown Ann Arbor, which is dominated by students and professionals who are often nice but sometimes pretentious and certainly transient. Fraser's has lots of regulars from all walks of life who have been going there for years or decades. The vibe changes depending on the day and time and on what game is on. U of M football games can be wild, making the servers' jobs nearly impossible -- be extra nice to them.
google avatar

Edwin P.

Yelp
The quintessential neighborhood sports bar. It's not anything fancy, but if you're looking to catch a game or get a few drinks with friends without breaking the bank, Fraser's is your place. The drinks are cheap (for Ann Arbor) and the TV are plentiful. It's only a 10-15 minute walk from my apartment and I definitely plan to go often for hockey games. The service is prompt and they really care about their customers. The regulars are all very friendly and you can easily chat up with other people about sports. I haven't tried the food yet, but it seems like standard bar fare.

Yelp
First : the hostess during day (Wed) was super at cleaning table and "everything" the sanitizer on everything ( include seats floor : everything) so we felt "really safe" eating with Covid out there. We use to be regulars (we moved so we're just in town for day) knew what we wanted and think it is best burger in all of Ann Arbor. It didn't disapoint: super good meat, cooked perfect med rare, nice bun that holds up, lots of cheese and rest. I always pay the extra bucks for hand made onion rings. Wife had Patty melt: same amazing meat with good ratio of cheese and onions. Again, one of best burgers around ! Sorry if pic doesn't look great : but u get idea .

Yelp
This is my fourth time coming to Fraser's Pub. They have a great selection of craft beer, and they open early on Sunday, so this cable cord cutter can watch the Formula 1 races. I've eaten here several times, and particularly enjoyed the cheese curds appetizer today. Everyone who works there has been great, and I'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
This place was awful. My friend and I came here around 945 to watch her favorite hockey team. When we walked in, all the TVs were playing the same thing so she asked a brunette if the Preds game was going to come on one of the big screens, the brunette said, "I don't know about sports stuff. You're going to ask one of them (one of the people behind the bar)." Well the blonde woman behind the bar was sweet and immediately changed the channel on the screen near where we decided to sit. Turns out the brunette, Claire, was our waitress. From the get-go she seemed extremely jittery. She would walk away from us while we were mid-sentence or do a loud, "YEAH" when it wasn't needed. Very strange. Oh well, moving on we order drinks. I order a simple Jack and Coke, calm night. How is any place that is allowed to call themselves a bar out of Jack Daniels? As a bar, you should have at least two types of Jack.... She had to come back 3 times to tell me they were out of Jack, and we still ended up getting charged for a Jack Daniels on our receipts at the end. Anyways, we ordered our drinks (me a mixed drink and my friend an Oberon) and fries. My friend ordered a second type of beer later on while we are eating our fries.... In the middle of us eating, Claire takes our ketchup. Now, I understand they may have been refilling or whatever. But come on, we've got a half full plate of French fries, not some fettuccine Alfredo, like we need the ketchup. That was a dumb move. Then she was on her phone. So, couldn't get her attention (photo attached). Then Claire comes back with our receipts and asks if there was anything else we needed... Well, there's 10 minutes left in the second period of a 3 period hockey game, my friend still has half of her beer, and we are still eating our fries... Why did you bring our receipts? Well, when she finally comes back (off her phone), we tell her we weren't done, my friend wanted to order another beer and the receipts were completely messed up... Seriously all types of messed up. Well, she says a snarky remark, "Well good, that's why I came back." Uhm... Then, we see her go to the bar and start pouring a beer, hold on my friend didn't tell you which beer yet. Slow down. So my friend gets up mid-pour and rushes over to tell her she wanted a different beer, don't assume what we want. Then Claire gets snippy, "Well, you should have told me." You didn't ask. "You could have told me still you wanted a different beer." I've been drinking different beers all night, and I still had a half one left, also you rushed off. "I REALLY DIDN'T THOUGH." Now it's a scene that didn't need to be made. She also started going off with the blonde behind the bar, which was so childish. Come on, you work in service. When she comes back, she's rude, gets on her phone and ignores us the rest of the night. My friend loved this place, but likely won't be back. I tried it once, and it was awful. Claire ruined Fraser's for me. EDIT: Spoke to the owner today, Ron, and he was extremely polite. He listened to what I had to say and told me, "Our policy is that no customer leaves unhappy." Really great guy, and I'm glad he took what I had to say. Definitely a bar run by a great guy. I would consider coming back to see them on one of their better days.

Yelp
Food is just ok. Got the beyond burger and it was just eh. The Buffalo chicken wrap was drenched in Buffalo sauce. I thought they would just toss the chicken with not drown the entire wrap. It's also spicy with the jalapeños if you're sensitive to spice.

Yelp
Walked here since it was close to the rented house for a big game. I saw several restaurants that were empty on the walk to the restaurant. This place was packed with people from corner to corner. So we decided to go with the crowds verses going with something small and most likely faster service. They pack tables on top of each other so there is no place to stand. Servers are super rude about asking folks to move. I suggest moving tables or the format of the bar to allow better flow. Servers were confused about taking orders and the same food was delivered twice to my table. Food also came out in different times so some of us waited to eat whole we waited for the rest to arrive. The most redeeming aspect of this place is the beer selection and the patrons. Although I was supporting the losing visiting team, I've got to say that all the Michigan fans we met were some of the friendliest people ever. Being packed like sardines waiting for a table (first come first serve), the Michigan fans made us feel very welcome and shared lots of laughs. Great place for any college football fan no matter what team you support. I walked away saying GOBLUE. It was our fault to picking a place that was packed. I would definitely try it again another time.

Yelp
My favorite pub in Ann Arbor great service With many choices in beer and food and served with care and speed even when crowded Good place watch games Friendly service pub food with flare and plenty to eat you will not leave hungry
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Nice dive/ pub. Food came out quick for how busy they were. Wait staff was nice and kept coming back to check on us. Steak was okay. Nachos were great! French dips the boys loved!

Melissa S.

Yelp
The restaurant was clean, lots of tvs for sports and a great beer selection though I didn't have one today. On the downside, service was just ok. I was practically ignored and there were only a few people in the restaurant. I asked for a burger cooked medium. It was cold and when I bit into it, was only browned on the outside. When I asked for it to be cooked more, the server acted annoyed. The burger is advertised as quarter pound but pictured below, it's obviously NOT a quarter of a pound. I would not order this again nor will this place become a regular spot for me. I would come here if others in my group wanted to or if I'm in a bind.

Geena P.

Yelp
Reliably good for burgers and fries! Lots of TVs to watch games, large bar area, plenty of tables, too. Service was good. There's a sun room-type semi-outdoors space, and they also have limited their indoor seating to meet COVID social distancing requirements.
google avatar

Yelp
My girlfriend moved to Ann Arbor 40 years ago and this year we are going to visit all the bars and restaurants have been around that long. Fraser's is a mecca for U of M sports fans. We go there often as it is a neighborhood bar. Always attentive wait staff and excellent bar fare menu. If you go often you will see many of the same patrons. There are reasons places have been around for 40 (or more) years, they take care of the people who come in. They've made some additions in the past few years: an outdoor patio (we did not use it being January) and a Sunday brunch. It's a place to go to watch a game, cheer the Wolverines, and have a good meal. See you there.

Yelp
The Female bartender is a complete B#^*%!!!!! We have been saying please and thank you and ordering drinks and continue to receive nothing but attitude!!!!

Yelp
Been having a craving lately for, of all things, a simple grilled chicken sandwich. Practically everyone serves bird on a bun, but I've been wanting to return to Fraser's, so there I went. We went there a while back for burgers, weren't all that impressed. Patty didn't have much flavor, was overcooked. Draft beers were a little pricy. In spite of that, I did like the atmosphere. Very comfy, unpretentious neighborhood bar, something rare in Ann Arbor. That's what drew me back today, though maybe I should have paid more attention to my memories of the food. The chicken wasn't bad, but was a little dry. It was topped with bacon, which really didn't add much. Honey mustard sauce came on the side, but one bite of the sandwich with a little of it schmeared on persuaded me to eat the rest plain. Service was fine, and I did appreciate the bottle of Alaskan Brewing IPA on special for $3. Otherwise, the epitome of "eh."
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been in Fraser's Pub in years and that has been a mistake. We went there to be with other Michigan Fans to watch the Big Ten Basketball Championship Game and it was a lot of fun. The others who shared their table with us were super to be with for the Michigan Victory. The waitperson was so nice and informative in helping us to decide on a Philly Cheese sandwich with fries. Best I've had in a long time. Looking forward to coming back soon. There are TV sets everywhere.

Beth L.

Yelp
Very inviting, the service was great! The food was amazing, the onion rings yummy! Definitely will be back

Yelp
If you're looking for good pub food - worth it. Got a black bean burger, which was tasty, with a side house salad that was generous and delicious. They made the salad with nice greens. Clearly decent quality ingredients. We also had wings that were solid and not wimpy. The beer selection is AWESOME - great craft selection. Staff was very friendly and checked on us regularly. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Karl H.

Yelp
Solid burgers and they actually cook to order, as in a juicy med rare burgers. Friendly staff. A good townie bar
google avatar

Jesus E.

Yelp
Pretty good, no frills neighborhood bar/pub. I had a turkey burger here and liked it. It came with a good portion of fries too. They have a pretty good beer selection and their menu has everything you would expect a pub to have. Staff was friendly and attentive. Nothing life changing but this place was a nice change of pace compared to most eateries and bars downtown and near campus.

Yelp
Took my son out for lunch at Fraser's today. I remember it as a really chill bar with good food and laid back atmosphere. The food was good! The place was air conditioned and good bar atmosphere as I remembered. Unfortunately the service was a bit TOO laid back. Is it because I'm older that I don't think I should have to flag the server down to pay a the check while she chats up someone 10 feet away? I look at my bill- $21.00 for 2 sandwiches and look we were charged $1.99 extra for a side of thousand island dressing ( we asked for 2 sides) to have with our fries! Too bad, stuff like that is why i wouldn't come back just on principle. I like to feel that my patronage is appreciated not begrudged.
google avatar

Annette J.

Yelp
Fraser's is ok. Came in on a Thursday afternoon post-regular lunch time and it was pretty dead. To the point where I almost felt uncomfortable coming in, like I was disturbing things or something. It was dark and REALLY chilly. I was freezing in the car and was looking forward to coming in and warming up but I felt just as cold in there. To that I say BRRR. As in BRRRRRing a sweatshirt. The food, however, is pretty decent. The burger was quite good and a substantial size. They have a number of different combinations but I'm pretty simple when it comes to my burger order--bun, meat, cheese, onion, ketchup and mustard. I like to taste the burger, you know? So I don't like lots of crazy stuff piled on. So, when it comes to burgers I say, "GIMME MY MEAT, BETCH!" And the meat here is pretty tasty. A little peppery but good flavor and fresh tasting. I wish I could say the same for the french fries. These were not so hot. Actually, their temperature was fine. It was just the taste. They tasted...stale? I don't know. Freezer burned? Just not good. I actually got a side of ranch to eat with them just to make them taste better (good ranch, though). The onion rings were a vast improvement, however. The staff was nice enough but our server kept switching throughout the course of the meal. There were definitely some regulars chillin at the bar watching sports and munching on some snacks. I overheard one of the waitresses take down the most complex grilled cheese order I have ever heard (he was very particular about the way things should be) and I didn't hear him complain when his food came, so props for that I suppose! All in all, not an awful place but it didn't really knock my socks off. I'd be willing to give it another shot but I'm not rushing out the door to do so.
google avatar

Bruce L.

Yelp
Went there after the game yesterday and the waitstaff was as unfriendly and obnoxious as one could imagine. Awful experience.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
I was here with a companion who so cheap it was embarrassing - he drank lemon water and bought nothing, left no tip. I was just going to get a beer, but I felt so bad for the waitress that I got the veggie & cheese tray, and I have to say they give you your money's worth; it was a ton of fresh veggies, crackers, a huge cheese ball and two boiled eggs, with what tasted like house-made ranch dip. Pretty good deal for a little under $8. The beer selection was good if not great, the waitress was nice and attentive. The night I was there it was fairly quiet, about half-full of what appeared to be regulars watching a game on the TV. It seems like a nice spot to hang out with a bunch of friends and drink beer for a few hours.
google avatar

Beck E.

Yelp
I've been here a few times but a few years passed between my second and third visits. Last night I got the fish & chips, which was pretty good although the tartar sauce (?) it came with was kind of bland. The food was hot, but I started getting a grease hangover halfway through. (My fault for ordering something I knew was going to be uber-greasy!) The coleslaw was delicious though! Tried my bf's potato chips (actual chips, not fries), and though they were crispy, they were a bit flavorless and could have used more salt. Service was fine--friendly & attentive. Though at the end of our visit, our waitress randomly changed, and she sort of messed stuff up (we ordered everything on separate checks, but the new waitress brought out one check)... the original waitress saw this from afar and showed up with our separate checks, which we really appreciated. Pretty standard for a dive-y pub.

Yelp
Great neighborhood pub. The service is always good and the food is good. Lots of locals go here and in the summer they have outside seating.
google avatar

Wayne P.

Yelp
Saw a guy here that looked like the creepy dude who'd walk his dog around the block and stop and stare at you. Besides that, nice place!
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Don't ever come here for a late night drink. They have posted hours, but only some bartenders follow them. They close at random when they want. I've even seen them close early with a full bar. They get mad at their customers and close the bar. It doesn't feel like they get the hospitality industry at all.
google avatar

Leila M.

Yelp
I really like this place. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is very chill and casual. You get the feeling that there are a lot of regulars. What could be better is the beer. The only beer list in the whole place is a chalkboard above the bar, which you can read if you're actually standing at the bar or you have exceptional vision. Their cheap options are, unfortunately, just Bud Light and Labatt.
google avatar

Zac B.

Yelp
A very good example of your standard local bar. Cheap beer on tap and all kinds of bar food, a good stop for a cheap meal and beer before heading back out. Great service, I ordered a beer and they had to change out the keg so I just ordered another beer. After I finished that they brought over my first choice and didn't charge me for it, that's top service right there. This place isn't going to blow you mind with any special food or drinks but a great place to drink, also have a nice little patio.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
Great casual sports dive bar. Better than just bar food. Friendly staff. Only downside is they don't serve dessert.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time in 10 years the other night. Had drinks only, but 10 years later it still seems like a cool townie bar. I'll get some food in the future and write a better review.
