Fred's Texas Cafe - West 7th

We found this place accidentally when our original choice for lunch had a line out the door. And I'm glad we did. This was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. When trying a new burger place I like to keep it pretty simple so that I can judge each place on an even playing field. No BBQ sauce or bacon or pineapples; just give me a perfectly cooked burger with no gimmicks on it. Fred's only uses 100% Black Angus chuck which is cooked medium unless you specify otherwise. Juicy, massive and paired with great hand-cut fries! The inside area is very small with only 10 booths and a 10 stool bartop. I'd recommend trying to sit inside, because it has a great "just pulled off the highway in the middle of nowhere", hole-in-the-wall feel to it. There is a larger outside area that is covered with fans. When we were there Sunday afternoon there was a live guy-with -guitar that sounded pretty good. Warning: This place DOESN'T validate parking in the garage ($20/highway robbery).

OVERRATED! This place isn't better than anywhere else. The fries were a step-up from In-N-Out burger but nothing great. The chicken fried steak should be removed from the menu and nachos should be brought back in its place. Service was good and I would recommend the fried pickles and salad. I know alot of people love this place, but I have to be truthful with my review.

Loved the burgers and fries at Fred’s Texas Cafe! If you enjoy spicy food, the Diablo burger is definitely the way to go. We had wonderful service, very kind and welcoming staff, I can’t wait to go back and enjoy again!

Always friendly... If you want healthy this is not the place, if you comfort food, burgers, burgers, burger, this is the place... I usually have the Fred's burger or Outlaw... As a treat to share the loaded cheese fries... <3

Great service Great food This place is awesome except one part. The music is emo and sucks. Like if you have a pulse than it may just kill you off. Yeah.... That bad. But the food might revive you. I might come back but they need to play a little bit of lively music. Something from the 90s maybe 2000s please. 🙏

Great service! Shelly was wonderful in her accommodations with our puppy. We enjoyed date night and good food! Cheap drinks and good place to stop by if your in Fort Worth near 7th Street !

I was greeted by a blue haired waitress with a big smile. She was attentive, professional, warm and on point. Unfortunately everything went downhill from there. Let's start with fries. I abhor fries that are soft and wettish on the outside and firm inside. If you're nostalgic for the poorly cooked fries that your mom used to make to avoid buying good fries, this is the place for you. There are too many quick, cheap tricks for good fries on YouTube to be serving these. To start, try seasoning the fries. Salt is cheap. Pick a crazy dry seasoning and make it your signature or at least an option that you push. The Diablo: The burger, see images, was cramped on a paper tray with fries and silverware was shoved under the sandwich. The burger was too wet and the bun was too cheap and unprepared for the task of containing all those moist condiments. If you insist on using cheap buns, toast them at the very least. It adds no cost in the long run. At $13, the bun is unacceptable. Get a bun that is more dense. Charge $14 if you have to. The soggy inside of the burger was, admittedly, delicious. The meat was low quality, but the chipotle sauce was good. I suspect that it was Goyas Chipotle in Adobo Sauce. The beer was ok, if a little pricey. I can forgive that due to the area. Good enough selection. The building was rustic and comfortable. It is a haven for everyone from old rednecks to tolerable grade hipsters and businessmen with a redneck streak. The decoration ranges from deer antlers to skateboard decks, surfboards, cows and a tiki bar. Come to get drunk and suck down calories. I'm no food critic. What do I know. 🙁

A Fort Worth classic. Good chicken fried steak. Most go for the big burgers but I like the patty melt. Sleeper item on the menu is the tacos the kitchen guys fire up! Iced schooners of beer are essential.
