Forest Gate’s Best Restaurants | Where to Eat in Forest Gate E7 | Eater London

"This outpost of the popular Brockley institution is loved by residents for breakfasts and brunches. It serves quality coffee, as well as fresh cakes, pastries and flatbreads — all made from scratch, with high quality, locally sourced ingredients. The banana bread, decked with peanut butter and slices of fruit and the pastrami flatbread, rich with emmental and tangy sauerkraut are particularly good." - Shekha Vyas

Overall enjoyable breakfast. Didn't like cheap catering sausages. Crockery especially cups need seriously replacing as on finishing drinks they were badly stained & had old tea/coffee stain rings around them. Also this cafe has no toilet facilities

I’ve been eating here everytime I am in Frinton and the food was great. Recently I had a bad experience with the service where I felt I wasn’t welcome and the cashier was rude and dismissive. She was warm to other customers and wasn’t to me. I’m guessing it’s because of the colour of my skin that I am treated differently. Frankly after that experience I won’t be eating here ever again.

Joined a very busy restaurant full of very satisfied customers. It was a super meal of ham egg chips, and a chicken burger chips for hubby. 2 large mugs of tea and lots of sauce. Great lunch stop.

I'm really disappointed with my recent experience at the cafe . I ordered a ham sandwich and noticed it had a slightly slimy texture and tasted weird, but I thought it may have just been the butter, so i didn't want to be rude and ate it. Soon after eating it, i ended up with food poisoning. Food safety should be a top priority, and the fact that I contracted food poising is seriously worrying. I have read other reviews on here since and noticed there have been similar comments . I am concerned that this still hasn't been addressed - AVOID

Upon arriving we were met by a very rude staff saying closed!! (2pm when web says closes at 3pm) We have been going to freds for a number of years. Over the last year we have seen a decline in this place going down rapidly. Food standards also has declined and staff attitude is bad. As a result of being turned away today we found a lovely place a few doors down( keto bite) with a much higher staff attitude and food standards are very high. I really can't see myself ever going back to freds.

I visited the café with my teenage daughter for a quick lunch and we ordered two dishes and one coffee. My daughter, being health-conscious, preferred to avoid sugary drinks and drank from her own bottle of water. To my surprise, we were charged for this when paying at the counter. I did not see any clear signage stating that bringing your own water would incur a fee, and no one informed us when we began drinking it. Had I been told upfront, I would have either continued knowingly or simply asked for tap water instead. Being charged only at the end made the experience feel quite unpleasant — almost like being penalised without warning. It left us feeling disappointed after what was otherwise a decent meal.

Went to order breakfast selected build own from the menu. I noticed the chef cooking sausage, mushroom, hash brown from the same deep fried oil. To confirm I asked the FOH, chief came out and mentioned same thing we use same frier, which felt bad 👎. Even they are not asked whether that can be done in 2 different frier to serve breakfast, literally waited for my breakfast but ended with hungry but recommending different order which I am not interested. I said no to that. P They replied sorry, very disappointed that they cannot use separate oil for vegetarian, vegetarian and meat stuff. Not recommended for vegan and vegetarian.
