Freds Chicago

Came for a late lunch and stayed for awhile while working on my laptop. Service was attentive. I had the margarita pizza which was good but didn't knock my socks off, and the apple tart which was really underwhelming. It seemed to be missing key ingredients - cinnamon and sugar in the tart, and butter in the crust - and was overall blah. The outdoor seating area is nice and likely a coveted spot when the weather is warm. I'd return to Fred's, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

I just had a weekend brunch here with a family. Service: was not happy with hostess to guide us to the seating as I requested a nice view that I can bring a stroller a way in advance when I was making a reservation. She guided us to the middle section by the brick oven fire when I was with an infant. Is she ok?? I had to choose a table basically... I don't have anything to complains about waiter and waitress service at the table. Pretty happy with that one. Food: I had oak street salad with lobster ($27), two of brunch menus (set menu is around 35 dollar, but if you buy one dish only, it will cost you around $15 per dish). Decent food. I will probably come back for brunch or lunch. Atmosphere: it is casual and easy place if you are shopping at barneys or in the neighborhood. I will go back to this place. I totally enjoyed this place, the food is outstanding, as well as the shower rooms were not bad. It was a little cold indoors, really was not the best. The host is good as well. I will certainly think about going back again if I have the possibility. Me and my buddy ordered the toast and we were not disappointed. My one tip is to keep the cool outside. Laters!

If you are looking for fine dining, this place offers great food, great views, and a serene dining room experience with superb service. It sits on the top floor of Barney's New York, among upscale retail shops on Oak Street, and you actually walk through Barney's to get to it. Get it...Fred and Barney? I do not know if the menu changes daily, but there were many delicious Italian oriented offerings. Among the notable fare we tried were the fried zucchini appetizer, the French fries, and the orecchiette entree.

I just had a lovely brunch at Fred's. The service is pretty good, people constantly coming up to us to make sure we had what we needed. I had the New York lox platter. The lox tasted a little weird to me, but overall I enjoyed my experience. The brunch is a little pricey, but for an included mimosa I'll take it.

Came to have a nice bottle of wine on our last night in Chicago but the staff just weren't interested so we left. Waited over 5 mins for someone to come out to take our order. When another table was sat down I asked if we could place our order but was told she needed to have someone else do that. Waited another 5 minutes and after seeing 3 people at the front desk chatting away, including the lady we asked, we left. Disappointing. That's $70 we spent elsewhere.

Staff is professional and attentive. I enjoyed brunch with my wife and 2 yr old. My wife enjoyed the Mid Day Martini as it complemented her Salmon salad nicely.

Ah Fred's. I used to think this place was just for an ice tea/ coffee break when I needed to save my feet for all the shoes I had to try at Barney's. But apparently they do food too. And it's pretty good. I came here during restaurant week (i didnt know they did that) and I had the roasted beet and arugula salad, the cavatelli with sausage and we tried all the desserts. The hands down favourite was the flourless cake and they were nice enough to give my friend the birthday cake chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream. All for $22? yes please. Also, half the fun is people watching, from 12 year olds with makeup, to 80s disco dancers to former models whose names we tried to guess. Enjoy!
