Fred's Fish Fry

The place is iconic. Its fast food fish and no frills. Just fried patties in that red white and blue box. I recommend getting the tater sauce its a little extra but completes the meal.

This is a no frills seafood place with good food. I ordered oysters, but the manager said they were small and not recommended. I went with shrimp instead. Hot out of the fryer.

IF I COULD PUT A NO STAR I WOULD ORDER WAS PLACED AT 5:20 PM SUNDAY FEB 23,2025 EVENING. HONESTLY IDK WHY ITS A 4.WHATEVER STAR.. IT CLEARLY ISNT Crappiest Place Fred's fish to Ever Spend your Money. Employees are annoyed, rude and Just RUDE THE OLDER LADY IN THE BACK WHO WEARS GLASSES WITH HER BLONDE HAIR DOESN'T WANNA HELP THE OTHER EMPLOYEE AT THE CASH REGISTER, ALL MY FISH WAS HARD PIECES, I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE ONE ON BANDERA RD IF I GET SICK I KNOW WHO TO BLAME, THE GUY WHO ANSWERED AND TOOK MY ORDER STILL OVER PRICED ME I CALLED FOR A MANAGER WASNT IN, (Hersulsa) THE YOUNG LADY WHO CHARGED ANSWERED AND I HEAR THE LADY WITH GLASSES YELLING UGH WHY DO THEY WANT A MANAGER?... trust me I asked for Crispy Fish not OLD FISH. IVE MANAGED FAST FOOD PLACES AND THIS IS NOT IT... WELP DO NOT STOP HERE.... SAVE YOUR STOMACH ACHE & YOURE MONEY AHEAD OF TIME!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡ FYI THE PICTURE OF FISH ON THE PICTURE IS WHAT WAS NOT EDIBLE also word of Advice. Only those who grew up around Fred's Fish Fry establishments will understand why we crave this place! Their fish is delicious!! It's my 1st time at this particular location. I walked in and the dining was very clean. I was greeted promptly. I placed my order and was ready in 5min. The fish was golden brown, hot, and Crispy, Perfectly cooked. The fries were just as good. The attendant was friendly and courteous. I had a pleasant experience here. I will be coming back. Come check this place out for yourself.

We discovered Fred's Fish Fry on Blanco Rd (3303) and were blown away by the exceptional service from Jorge. He warmly welcomed us as first-timers, offering personalized recommendations that sealed the deal. The sampler platter was a highlight, allowing us to indulge in a variety of dishes that exceeded our expectations. The tartar sauce is a must-try! Out of all the locations in San Antonio, this one stands out as a top destination. Jorge's dedication to customer satisfaction truly makes this spot shine. Highly recommended!

No wonder why people eat here only once or twice a YEAR! OVERPRICED MEDIOCRE FISH is usually not my thing....but Fred's WAS a family staple growing up ... now....not so much. They give you a tiny small fry for a LARGE FAMILY OF FISH! And a tiny portion cup of tartar sauce. Like come on...this will barely spread over three fish let alone a 12 pc.... ridiculous that we had to pay for two more small fries to make what would be a LARGE FAMILY FRY...and had to buy an extra portion of tartar sauce 😞 SMH....by the time we left (30 mins later) we're out almost $50bucks....anyways again....once or twice a year thats it...

I must say I love my seafood, but still crave Fred’s fish not that it’s not real seafood by any means because it is delicious. It’s more like home. This location has a small dining area. It has seating for 16 people as each table sits four. We probably have Fred’s fish twice a year because I do love my bougie seafood. 🤣😆

From dallas, Texas staying the week wanted some fish.I passed by a few times all day finally at 8:30 at night I decided to try it out.when I say super surprised about how good it is.ordered while there where at least four customers inside before me and still got my food within 10 mins and was hot and fresh.Highly Recommend

Hey it's Fred's. It's cheap. Made to order and the tartar sauce is delicious. What do you expect when 3 pcs of fish and fries with bread cost $7 I love it. Quick fix.

Ubiquitous. Triple F as they call it on the streets. Some say Fred owns the streets. Some say he was here long before the city itself. Whatever you believe, believe this, you don't earn a reputation like this for nothing. I wasn't sure what to expect going in. I'm not ashamed to admit, I was scared. When you have lived with prophecy for so long the moment of revelation is overwhelming, as they say. I can assure you, however, that if you choose to embark upon this journey you will be met with a tasty fate. I kept it OG and got the fish box. It was like one of those satisfying internet videos where things fit into other things perfectly. Down to the nanometer, except with fish. It came with fries and some bread, not sure why, the fish is already breaded. But hell I ate it. Every last crumb. Enough carbohydrates to climb a mountain. I'll be back, when I muster the courage.

Fred's Fish Fry is a legend and a mystery. This is my second time and I will go back again. Many people aren't sure about this brand but I will say it is worth going to try and to be part of the mystique. This is OG San Antonio. I got the 3 piece fish and a Pepsi. Make sure to get the tub of tartar sauce which tastes better than the little packs.

I joined the Navy many years ago - ok 44 years. Mom use to stop by Freds on Culebra just about every Friday. It was a big treat. After 20 years in military and 10-15 more traveling, i am finally back in Texas. When i come visit my Mom, if time permits I speed dial my order to Freds on Blanco. I still love the food and believe it is a good value for the money. This week while driving through, i picked up my fish order from Jorge on Blanco. I asked him what happened i can remember the lines of getting fish when i was young. He thinks the hype just died out. I told him i knew Churchs started making it but it is greasy and doesn't taste the same. I think Freds has maintained the taste. My 4 star review is based on the iron bars and neighborhood.

A staple in san Antonio for many years. Very tasty seafood. The only thing wrong is the restaurant needs to be renovated

Horrible service, the lady at the cash register was rude, very short and had a horrible time. Look, it's not my fault, she works there, don't take it out on me. I asked if I could have 2 extra slices of bread and she said she would have to charge me, but have the other table a half loaf no charge. When my order was ready she slammed it on the counter and walked away. Bad mood or not I don't do anything. Food was pretty bad too.

AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE & FOOD!! Customer Service was outstanding and very respectful. We got our food in less than 5 minutes and it was fresh and delicious! Will come again to this location!

The staff was friendly food was great served nice and fast I have since been back 5 or 6 times and everytime greeted with respect and friendly service. Price is the selling point for me because it's not expensive at all. Recommend to people on tight budgets.

So I go in and got my order. Got home. I have black shrimp, rotted fish and oysters that look bad. I call and was told that I could go the next day for a refund. Spoke with an employee who told me I needed to speak with the manager, Nora. Nora says no refund that she would need to get is approved from Corp. I said I would love my money back. I'm not even reportong you to the health department which I should. She told me go right ahead. Hung up. Called corporate, spoke with Alfred. He was polite and understanding. Got my money back, the cook continued to apologize and mentioned that Nora told her to serve that food and it was edible. People beware. That manager needs to be fired for trying to get people sick.

Wow!! Manager I guess... would not stop cussing talking trash with a friend that walked in that was being silly! Even though we were not saying ANYTHING, their friend told them to hurry because we were waiting... her reply to him "they need to wait inline like everyone else" ... again..we never said Nothing negative and she questioned WHY we wanted our money back! Also, if your store says to wear mask....why are the employees not required to wear them?

Like square fish like when you were in school? Then this is the place for you! Heavily breaded, too sweet fish. Food value: 2% at most. Only good thing I can say about Fred's Fish Fry, beside there was a paved street to get to it, was that the fried potatoes were good. I got a 9 piece fish dinner to go. TheY gave me tater sauce, and a small fry (weird right?) and bread. That's right, not toasted bread, but bread like what they give you when you order BBQ. Didn't help that the lady seemed grouchy and the place seemed worn. Both I've given a pass for good food many times before.

Very rude staff. Called to place an order and the girl said they weren't taking orders and hung up on us right after. It was an hour and a half before their posted close time.

I didn't even want to rate it a star. So I called to place a pick up order and I was told that they don't take call in orders. When asked, " when did this action take effect" - being I had just ordered from the Blanco location just a month or so ago; The response was that it took effect years ago with a very rude tone. I love my Freds Fish but people who are hired there to manage makes the place such a suck ass place to want to go eat.. What happened to my West Avenue location? I'll just take my business to Laguna Madre. I don't get attitude there. Written 12/26/21 @ 8:52 pm.

Staff during this visit 01/07/2022 @ 1824 was a major disappointment. It's nothing like it used to be. First the three females could put a sailor to shame, every other word out of their mouth was a cuss word. The lack of pride in their job was very obvious. The talk about how they wouldn't eat the food here made me want to walk out, at this point I had already paid. The cashier being the ring leader was the best, they clearly had a sign in regards to wearing mask but none of them had mask even though the cashier sounded like she was hacking up a lung. God be with me this evening while eating this meal.

Fish was cooked perfect. Fries are always the best. The service was quick and friendly. All the staff deserves an applause.

Seems like this place has gotten better since the negative reviews. The lady working there was nice and quick even though she was the only one there . The food was really good fresh and perfect for what I was craving. So overall it was a great first experience

me and my boyfriend came into Fred's fish right here on Blanco Road the cashier was very nice he greeted us with a big smile and provided excellent service the food was awesome I highly recommend Fred's fish fry here on On Blanco Road

Fred's Fish Ry on Blanco was a colossal disappointment. I've been seeing these restaurants all over the west side for years and finally decided to try one out. I ordered the basic three piece fish and fries order. It was awful. Overcooked and tasteless as far as the fish was concerned....in other words I couldn't taste the fish. All I could taste was the overcooked batter, which was burned. The fries were average. Lesson learned....won't visit this place again

Stopped in when we were a little lost in SA & made the mistake of ordering fish patties and shrimp that were frozen and fried-just gross.

For the quick fix for fish and cheap too Fred fish is good. They have fish and chip meal around 5 dollars. I wish they offered a healthier option for side but most of the food is fried. Best place for cheap seafood.

I love Fred's Fish Fry! My family and I would eat there when I was growing up there. Now, when I come and visit, I try to make it a habit to eat there once. The meal itself is just as good. A basic order is a 3-piece meal which comes with 3 pieces of fish, 2 slices of white bread, some fries, and a wedge of lemon. Condiments are given by request such as tartar sauce, ketchup, napkins, etc. However, keep in mind that food is made when ordered. So, be prepared to wait 10 to 15 minutes. The wait is worth it. While you're waiting, order some fish nuggets. A little piece of goodness to snack while you're driving. I only wish they are all over San Antonio instead of just certain parts of town.
