Had Fred’s for the first time today and it was just such a great experience from the service to the food everything was top notch . For us the best part was our server Mamie she had such a great personality and instantly made my fiancé and me comfortable thank you for the great service Mamie hope to see you when when we go back :)

What a beautiful place. Surrounded by hundreds of pictures of dogs, with great service and awesome food. The attention is flawless, kind and always with a smile and a greeting. The food is delicious and I recommend the turkey burger and do not leave without trying their cheesecake. A work of art. The best, the puppies on the walls. What a great place. Will go again without a doubt!!

Great place for the family. Easy going, nice food and friendly staff. Good NYC vibe. As dog lover’s we really liked the dog appreciation too.

First, I’m mad we haven’t been sooner. But so glad we finally did! I’m a transplant patient and have to be super careful with food. Salads are one main thing to be super careful about and also my favorite. I explained my situation to the sweetest hostess on Saturday and she happily said it wasn’t a problem and they take things like that very seriously when informed. The ENTIRE staff was super friendly and it was one of the BEST freaking salads I’ve had!!! All the produce under that first layer was like farm fresh! The chicken is super tender and everything just crazy delicious! We will be sharing this salad and trying Mac and Cheese next visit very soon ❤️

Family friendly diner-adjacent restaurant in the neighborhood. They know their demographic with the 2 for 1 beverage deal, maybe just a brunch thing. Reminded me of like a independent restaurant version of like a Chili’s or maybe an Island’s (if ur from CA). Just plain ole American food, but that’s what you should expect while eating here. Sometimes that’s all you want, which is just alright.

Our main reason for coming here? Our vet is around the corner, but we live in Hell's Kitchen. That said, we've come here for years in the evenings taking or picking our pups up and love the food and atmosphere. It is simple but always good. I've had several of the burgers and love their cheese steak, which I'm not often allowed to have anymore---so it's always a treat. My wife enjoyed the meatloaf the other day. Staff is always friendly and courteous and we have generally eaten outside (as we usu have one of our dogs w/us). I have to applaud the manager, who, during our last meal there, in as caring a manner as possible, had to move along an overly aggressive resident panhandler.

Cozy neighborhood tavern with really engaging and fun staff! We celebrated a birthday with a group of 8 which included some meat lovers and vegetarians and there were ample choices for everyone’s tastes. Food and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend the crispy brussels sprouts, 8oz burger, buttermilk fried chicken, and molten lava cake for dessert! And definitely head next door to Scarlet Lounge for a nightcap at speak easy vibe lounge - you don’t even need to walk outside!

This place is a fantastic restaurant! 🍴 Fred's on br UWS 🗽 offers a great selection of delicious 🤤 American dishes 🍽️ - definitely try their NY Cheesecake 🍰 and their famous Max and Cheese! 🧀 The staff 👨‍🍳 is friendly and professional and the service is quick. ⏲️ They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. 🪑 I wish I knew about this place earlier ⏰ and came more often!

As a patron who has been to Fred's on several occasions, I highly recommend it. I always have a lovely experience with Henry behind the bar due to his incredible hospitality, humor, and kindness! I will also say the manager Tracy is very kind and attentive to customer's needs if I ever have concern. Henry makes excellent drinks and will make whatever you request. In terms of food, I love the salmon burger, the lamb burger, the sweet potato fries, and the mozzarella sticks. If you're looking for a great brunch spot with a fun atmosphere, definitely come to Fred's!

Fred's is one of my favorite spots on Upper West side. It's your low key local bar with fantastic drinks, love their sangria and also has some of the yummiest food that you can enjoy on the bar side of dining side. The restaurant has floor to ceiling photos of dogs bringing so much charm to it. The Mac and cheese is hands down the best I have ever had. You can't go wrong with the classic but I tend to order the Buffalo mac and cheese, incredible! The burger is always amazing and the staff is always friendly and helpful .

Such a fun night. Blues band delta vibes. Affordable food and decent table wine. The staff was welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend a night out here!

Mac & Cheese w/ Seasonal Vegetables: The seasonal vegetables today were squash, carrots, and broccoli. This was a pretty good mac & cheese, but not the best, and not worth the $20 price tag.

I don't go often but after being consolidated into Jeremy's restaurant group I felt the food became more interesting. Tasted fresher. Stopped by tonight and quite disappointed. The lamb burger tasted frozen and like something you would get at a bad diner. It was overcooked and dry. I assumed given the Telio's connection it was safe. I think at this point there are better options in the neighborhood for casual food. Especially at this price point.

Just what we were looking for after some time at the natural history museum. Menu had all of the classics and everyone in our group of 6 left happy. The dog pics are an added delight.

Fred's is a reliable neighborhood spot where the food and service are consistent. A fun bar to sit at and chat and get to know your neighbors. I prefer brunch here over dinner mostly because I love their Huevos Rancheros. The beau ordered the Cobb which was chock full of protein and could have come in a bigger bowl given all that was in it. This casual spot is highly recommended if you're in the area.

I thought this was a nice local bar. Nothing to write home about. The cucumber drink was good. A little sweet. Small glasses. But the price point is very good. Service was fabulous by our waitress. The bartender was OK. A pretty good night all in all.

Really fun atmosphere for a Saturday dinner celebration with family, including 3 little children and six adults. Tasty tavern food. The nachos were kicked up with good jalapeños and lots of toppings. Kids loved the grilled cheeses and buttered pasta and all the dog photos. My cheesesteak and the salmon burger were good sandwiches. Service very good, especially getting drinks and kiddo food out fast. Hot brownie with whipped cream was the perfect Birthday Treat! Lots of patrons inside and out. Go Fred's! We will be back!

Local Upper West Side brunch spot with good food and charming character. I ordered the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast ($19), which was very tasty. The cinnamon raisin bread was high quality, unique, and not overly sweet even with the toppings. Just a couple minor points for improvement: it was very slightly burned at certain points (but looked a bit more burned than it really was because of the cinnamon), the cinnamon could have been spread out a bit more evenly, and it could have been slightly fluffier. I also tried the Omelette ($19), which was also very good. The egg was cooked the perfect amount, and there was a decent amount of ham, bacon, and cheddar in there (the toppings we chose). There were a couple small areas that were a bit saltier than others though. The place has a distinctly homey atmosphere with dark wooden furniture, and most notably, has a whole bunch of cute dog pics along the walls that were submitted by customers (and maybe employees). One of these dogs is actually the namesake of the restaurant. This collage of dog photos gives the restaurant a unique charming character. There is a pretty large indoor seating area with some outdoor tables as well. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, if you are in the Upper West Side and looking for a nice neighborhood brunch spot, then Fred's would be a very good choice for you - bonus points if you are a fan of dogs.

Food is always a solid. It is a neighborhood staple for years. Dog photos everywhere (cats in the bathroom!). Henry, the bartender, is a delight! We look forward to seeing him as much as the place!

Charming, if crowded. We have had a few family gatherings at Fred's for brunch and lunch. Excellent food, good service. Can be crowded and loud.

Great Conversations can be had at Fred's! We went there for a late dinner during March Madness and there was a small, friendly crowd at the bar watching games and having drinks, while we ate in pretty quiet dining room. It was raining heavily the night we were there so I think many people were staying home. The food was good. I had a chicken avocado sandwich of some sort and my spouse had the salmon burger which she enjoyed. They have lots of tables outside on the sidewalk in the nice weather although we haven't been back yet. The place is not fancy but has a nice atmosphere and we'll go again.

I'd heard a lot of good things about Fred's, so I decided to try brunch. I ordered the eggs Benedict, a favorite of mine, but was so disappointed, didn't even finish it. Both the ham and the English muffin tasted charred, bad aftertaste. The eggs were underdone, runny whites, and there was little hollandaise sauce on them. The home fries came in a big slab. The chocolate molten lava cake was good though. Service was very pleasant but slow. Clearly a neighborhood favorite, but not sure why, maybe because it's so big.

There's a quaint ambiance, and the bar area is really nice and homey. Service was just ok. We sat at the bar. We would ask for water or plates, the server would forget and five minutes later we would have to ask someone else. The chicken tenders and honey mustard both had a nice flavor - but the portions are incredibly small for what they charge. I won't be back.

I love this place! The vibes are classic, the pictures of the dogs are so fun, and Tracy and Liam are great! Never had a meal or drink here I didn't like.

I ordered fried chicken. The smallest pieces EVER came out ( I'm thinking it might have been pigeon:( It was tasteless and the " chicken " looked old. The waitress agreed to take it off of the bill. Then, an older woman came out and started telling me that everyone else tasted it and it was " fine ". They prep the night before , everyone who worked at the restaurant tasted it and it was " fine ". If I say I don't like something, PLEASE don't argue with me !!!!!!!!!! Will never go back there.....

This past Sunday was a beautiful day to be outside and the perfect day to have lunch at an outdoor restaurant. We were tired of walking and happened upon Fred's. Truth be told everywhere was packed so the sole reason we stopped here was because they had a free table. What a shame. From the start the waitress was snarky, and not in a charming way. More in an everything that was asked of her was a visible problem way. In her defense she appeared to be the only person waiting on tables but that shouldn't be the customer's problem. And having waited tables, you deal with it. My wife ordered a salad and although nothing memorable, it wasn't terrible. High praise indeed. I however ordered the three egg omelet and that was at best, lousy. It's pretty hard to screw up eggs but this effort was low rent diner quality. Not a $50 lunch quality. Cheap diced ham and greasy onions wrapped in a barely cooked egg wrapper. And I'm still trying to figure out wtf the "hash brown" substance alongside the eggs was. The dish did not come with toast so I ordered a side. A charge for this but that's not uncommon. However for the extra charge it should not come out ice cold. When I mentioned this to the waitress she said "I hate when that happens". A real professional. Anyway, if you are out looking for a brunch spot on a beautiful fall day and happen upon Fred's, keep walking.

I ordered chicken fajitas from Fred's last night, expecting a searing hot skillet with marinated strips of chicken, grilled onions and bell peppers, and a separate plate with delicate flour tortillas, plus the obligatory sides of sour cream and guacamole. Instead, I received what can only be described as a gas station salad with a cheap spinach wrap on the side - the kinds that you can get from the supermarket in a pack of six for $3.99. The fun of eating fajitas is to be able to custom-make individual tacos, each with whatever proportions of chicken, veggies, and sauces that your heart desires. But how was I supposed to make those with my dollar-store spinach wrap and ungodly amount of iceberg lettuce? As I watched my friends devour their roast chicken beside me, I was overcome with envy and regret. Hungry, tired, and with few alternative options, I tried my best to rip the stale spinach tortilla into small tacos to construct my custom fajitas. But as the picture will indicate, it ended up being a salad with a side of tortilla. Nasty. To make matters worse, our scantily clad waitress hovered over us, and all of the tables seated around us, repeating every four minutes, almost robotically, "how are we doing FRANDS?" It was bizarre service to accompany a bizarre and dissatisfying dining experience. 1 star from Richy.

I was there this past weekend with a friend and noticed a blonde hair woman who might be a manager, berating/yelling at her employees. This is unprofessional, especially in front of customers. In addition, a "manager" speaking to an employee like that is not someone who should be managing at all. The way she yelled at these employees was as if she was yelling at her own children. She needs to find a different job or find a different career path that does not involve managing or working with people. I could see how upset the employee was to the point that they were probably on the verge of tears. Definitely made my experience uncomfortable.

Started coming here when my partner and I moved into the neighborhood and absolutely fell in love! We bring all our friends and family here when they stop by and we can't decide where to go. The food never misses and the staff is always so friendly. Huge shout out to Tracy for always being so kind and accommodating!

First off, I love all the dogs on the walls which my primary reason for coming. I love animals. The service was okay. He was fairly friendly, forgot our order so he had to come back again to ask what we wanted, finished his shift half way through our lunch but didn't even let us know we were changing servers. The average person probably could care less but as someone who worked in restaurants for 10+ years, I was always told to let the guests know. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was okay. I finished it but it was VERY heavy on the hot sauce. It was suppose to be 2 for 1 Blood Mary's, Mimosas or Bellini's but no one ever asked about a 2nd one, just gave us the check once we were done. My husband ordered a Cheeseburger which he enjoyed. I ordered the Veggie Quesadillas which I thought were decent. They were HUGE though... they were $22 which is very expensive but again, you did get a lot of filling for your money. The word that comes to my mind when thinking about my experience here is just decent. It's okay.. nothing more, nothing less. I love the dog theme but wouldn't come back or recommend.

Quesadilla - delicious, flavorful, full, tasty! Mimosa - refreshing, strong, perfect size! Sweet potato fries - crispy, fluffy, crinkle cut pillows!!

Pretty good place to get a quick bite to eat, nothing special. The service is okay. Drinks could be better. My husband and I are enjoyed the Mac & cheese. I liked the salmon burger and my husband got a regular burger. The fries were pretty good too. Overall a decent place to eat if you're in the area. Don't expect exceptional drinks.

Very solid place! Prices are very reasonable for NYC. Food was awesome. Bloody Mary...tasty, but too much tobacco. I'm a fan of a good spicy, Bloody Mary, but I want more horseradish to accomplish that. Not extra tobasco. Maybe I'm fussy... I was treated to one of my favorite pastas. Orriciette with Italian sausage, garlic, parmesan, and broccoli. Their concoction added roasted red peppers, which was delightful. I prefer broccoli Rabe, but no biggee. The dish was fantastic. My wife had a fantastic veggie burger, my son a perfectly executed homelet, and my daughter, a Mac n cheese so good and with such an interesting flavor (yes folks, they harbor some secret ingredient I could not detect), that I tried it three times! Service was The Best of the weekend! Can't wait to return!

We had such a wonderful and relaxing time here. The staff was so friendly. Our host, waitress and porter were all five star service. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is the price for a turkey burger being $19 without even avocado/bacon is a little aggressive. I know with the pandemic it's hard on restaurants but this is a lot for a turkey burger and I wish I could make it a regular spot but with that price tag it will have to be an on occasion item. I felt safe sitting outside and the staff was extremely particular about the regulations and very alert about this. Needless to say, the menu selection was great. I finally got my turkey burger (you have no idea how difficult it is to find here on the UWS and if a restaurant does have it, it's frozen and not good). Bun nicely toasted, cheddar perfectly melted. The macaroni and cheese was filled with gooey cheese, pieces of bacon, with a very crispy top. Lacking a bit of pepper but our very kind porter brought us everything I could ever need with such positive and kind energy. Beer and drink selection was impressive from nice winter cocktails to draft beers. I enjoyed the Porter. The last bit that shocked us was the Belgium chocolate cake with coconut. Not only was the presentation gorgeous but every bite was absolutely divine. Our attentive, down to earth and sweet waitress told us it was made by Elizabeth! Elizabeth, the cake was extraordinary!

We had a horrible experience at Fred's last night. They were understaffed in their kitchen on a night that they told us they wouldn't be taking reservations because it would be busy (so you would think they'd be prepared). We got a table, but waited a whole hour and a half before getting our food. Some of the cocktails were watered down and the burger came without the toppings we asked for, and was cooked medium instead of well-done like we asked. The runner who brought the food was very rude when we asked him to take it back and fix it and on top of all of this, the manager was totally unwilling to compensate us for our experience.

I love everything about Fred's. I've been there several times and the food is always good. On weekends, it's fun because it's a lively, popular place, and the service is excellent.

Came here for brunch. Inside, the walls are covered in photo frames with dogs! Ordered the salmon eggs benedict and asked for the fries well done. It was nothing to write home about--salmon was fresh and the fries were a bit mushy. Service was decent. Food was nothing to write home about

Super friendly neighborhood place with great variety on the menu. One of my go tos when I visit nyc

We ordered their famous mac n cheese. The bread crumbs on top were nice, but the sauce tasted a little strange. My husband thought there was a slight alcoholic taste to the white cheese sauce. I just thought the sauce could have been cooked longer? Not sure what they put in it, but $20 for a mediocre mac n cheese without any toppings was disappointing. We also ordered the orecchiette, which was not bad, but it wasn't good either. The photos of dogs were cute, outdoor ambiance was very nice, and waitress was very kind but MIA at times.

The Mac and cheese were subpar at best. Here for the vibes. The tomato sauce on the meatloaf is sweet, if you like that sort of thing. Service was average. I definitely would skip coming here if you're eating your way through NYC.

Standard diner fare - the salad was poorly conceived and constructed (cut grapes with romaine do not scream understanding of food). Fried chicken was actually pretty good but not worth the visit.

Fred's is close to where I work on the UWS and is often busy when I walk by. I've popped in a couple of times with some friends for dinner, and have found it is a laid back spot where customers and staff alike are having a real fun time. I'm not usually one for trivia, but we happened to come in on a Monday the first time we tried Fred's, and ended up having a really enjoying myself. We shared a bunch of items, but the southwest chicken and black bean bowl, buffalo mac & cheese, and wings stood out above all. That said, if you're wanting a quieter, more low-key experience, I recommend coming on a non-trivia night! Very solid neighborhood spot.

Fred's was so great to host a friend's going away party for us. We sat in the back and were surrounded by so many pictures of pooches. It was absolutely adorable. I had a salad and it was such a large portion.

The owner or manager at Fred's is the best! This man was so accommodating to the large party that was my family and friends. He also engaged us without becoming overbearing. It's a pity his staff wasn't the same. They were brusque and even seemed like they didn't want to do the job they were there to do. Thank God for this wonderful manager who made up for their poor behavior. We dined outdoors and I had the juciest of medium lamb burger. My family had various other dishes including pasta and salads. One salad was obviously not on the fresh side. The leaves were wilting. Some parts looked dried and when we compared it to others on the table the difference was night and day. My aunt promptly sent it back. She didn't want anything else because she was afraid her action would cause staff to treat her/us with even more disdain. She just picked off of our salads Haha. Sad because she said this was one of her favourite restaurants. My other issue is I have no pics of our other delicious meals because pics at table is a NO NO with mi familia. At home I can usually sneak some in but it was too had to accomplish here. I managed to get a few shots on on my way to the toilet though. Take that family! In. Your. Faces! Hahaha. I had a personal situation. It's an animal friendly environment (didn't know this prior) and I was super scared peeing and having dogs and cats look at me. Yeah yeah pictures but my phobia and I had a bit of a time in that toilet trying to close my eyes and get my business done at the same time. Hahahaha! I'm happy that fur baby lovers have a spot they can come to though. Overall experience sans wait staff pleasant. The End.

This place always looks packed and poppin' whenever we walk by. I wanted to like Fred's! It seems like it has such a homey, neighborhood diner vibe, but the prices are way too overpriced for the quality and atmosphere. Buttermilk Fried Chicken - 3.5/5 - Dry, just as another reviewer stated, but not too terribly. The chicken was fried and crunchy but at the cost of the moisture of the chicken. Little to no flavor. The smokey honey mustard saved the dish. Mashed potatoes were okay, garlicky but kind of chunky. I think it's just preference, but they weren't my favorite. Moms Meatloaf - 3/5 - The veggies were okay/good. Same mash as with the fried chicken. Texture was a little too mushy for our taste and flavor was underwhelming. Also, my soda was flat. But I understand that this is probably a hit or miss... Overall, the servers were nice! The food was OKAY. It was not terrrible. But paying more than $20 for mediocre dishes at a restaurant that gives off a cozy feel? Idk. There are plenty of other eateries in NY that will gladly charge you just as much with better quality. That being said, I may be willing to give this spot another try. Maybe for their appetizers only or their acclaimed famous mac n cheese. But I guess I just don't see what the hype is about.
