Free Range Brewing

I went to the Free Range Brewery today for their annual "New Year's Free Soup Day" and I had a grand time! I ate my fill of soups, cheese bread, ciabatta bread, potato bread, and toasted baguettes! There were lots and lots of different soups from various chefs from around the city! There were also cookies and donut holes provided by some local bakeries, and some beverages from some local breweries! Outside of the amazing food, I met some really friendly people and even ran into a few of my own family members, who told me that this was their 4th year attending! I must admit a good time was had by all! It was good times, good food, and good people! Thank you, Free Range Brewery, for a spectacular Soup Day! I can't wait until next year! Great venue that had a nice size back room to host a comedy show or event. Was nicely surprised by the quality of food. It did take a lot ng time for food to arrive, but it was delishous. Had a descent amount of craft beer and bar cocktail options, it did have limited cider options though, and the cocktails were pretty pricey. Had a very decent amount of no cost parking. In lot, side street, and a go at your own risk parking lot across the street. Had a lovely time, like the venue and food!!!

A wonderful collection of delicious beers and spirits, Free Range Brewing has proven to be our new “go to” spot for a beer and a visit. Ample seating and service with a smile, there is always artwork to see and people to meet both inside and out. Well behaved dogs are always welcome and you will meet plenty of them while you enjoy this unique spot. Need a snack or a full fledged meal? Rhino Market is 100 feet away. Enjoy!

This was my first visit to the brewery, and it exceeded expectations. The variety of craft beers was impressive, the staff was knowledgeable and welcoming, and the atmosphere was both lively and comfortable. A wonderful experience and a place I would gladly recommend to other visitors.

Nice brewery! Had a lager and a hazy IPA while here. Both beers were solid for their style. I just visited Salud Cerveceria Brewery before this and while Free Range may be a bit below their level it’s still an enjoyable brewery nonetheless. Staff were very friendly and personable and definitely elevated the experience. I’d visit again and get some higher ABV options next time.

Went to their annual New Year’s Day free soup event, and it was so cool. Literally free, of course can give a donation but they don’t require it. So many soups and breads and baked goods to chose from. Everyone was so friendly and just there to have a good time with yummy eats. I’ve never gone on a regular day, but the vibe I got there was awesome. I’d definitely want to go back and check them out.

Pretty good brewery with an interesting twist, they focus on the “percent” local ingredients and actually measure that on their display boards with each beer they have. Quality is good, not amazing. Location is good with a outdoor area and projection TV and stage. Good place to swing by.

Very cool dog friendly brewery with a variety of unique and interesting brews to capture your attention. Interesting beer like side pour brown ale, a gruit (unhopped style), sours, and a sourdough beer you MUST try. Amazing bartenders. Highly recommended

We were the only people here for our first time. they had their own food truck and it served burgers, hot dogs and farm freshies (we didn't order anything but menu looked good!) service was good as the bartenders were knowledgeable and nice. the atmosphere was pop music, with a chill distillery vibe. we got 2 flights which came with 3 beers each. enjoyed our time here!

Staff is friendly & accommodating. Allowed my acquaintance & I to bring food over from a nearby restaurant. Ordered the lemonade slushy which was so cute! The touch of gummy worms made it even more satisfying! Highly recommend.

We stopped by Free Range with our new puppy to check out the Jimmy Pearls pop up and sat in the front area. It was nice and cool with the doors open. We enjoyed our time there, no complaints. It was busy due to a private party in the back area. But there was still seating. We sat in the front away from everyone because we wanted to make sure our pup was okay. The gals behind the bar were nice and let us sample a few beer options. I don't recall which beer I had but I liked it and would love to come back and try more.

Came in on a whim to try out the beer selection. While the All You Need Is Love and Hudson were okay I enjoyed the Fresh Hop Slow Cure. Pretty decent pale ale. Bar tender was very nice and helpful and I could see the vibe being pretty good if it wasn't a Monday at 6pm. I'll probably come back at some point to try the other beers.

I cannot believe they have been having FREE SOUP DAY for eight years and I just found out about it a few days ago. I was so happy I attended. I had some amazing soup and even better beer. And I love the parking as there is plenty of it.

I love this place! It's amazing how they locally source all of their beer and it's amazing! Therapy session is my personal favorite, they also have a lot of non beer options! This is a great place for families and dogs because it is so spacious. The staff is incredibly friendly and it makes for a wonderful experience. We attending the survivor watch party and it was so much fun they even did a raffle!!

It's cool spot in NODA! Lots of local choices on tap. The ambiance is nice, good amount of seating.

Came here for their Jollof festival and had such a fun time! The food was great and the vibe was so much energy and fun. Everything tasted delicious, and we really enjoyed them having this event. Will definitely be back!

Hadn't been there for many years, but realized the focus is no longer on the quality or selection of beer as it once was. Sad to see breweries now just competing with gimmicks instead of just making great beer. Parking was a little tight.

Free Range brewing is a great spot to escape the heat at Camp North End. The workers are happy to give recommendations including a sample. Plenty of comfy seats & love the local art hung on the wall for sale. The sour is clean and simple. I've also tried the slush before & while a little expensive for it being non alcoholic, definitely refreshing.

The beers were really solid. Great service from the bar staff and the vibe was easy going. A band was about to start playing and we missed them.

I learned that David Childers was playing a Sunday afternoon show here so I wanted to check it out. I read the reviews and checked out their web site and decided it would be worth a try. I live in Fort Mill, SC so a long drive into NoDa is not something I do lightly. Sarah joined me and she was driving in from Matthews, NC so we both made quite a commitment to get there. I called in advance around 1p on Sunday and talked to lady about their wine selection. She said ' oh yes, we have plenty of different types of wine, we have it by the glass or we have a cooler where you can buy it by the bottle, we have Chardonnay, Merlot & Cab Sav. Now, I know this is a brewery but not everyone drinks beer some by choice and some due to dietary/medical reasons. I confirmed that David Childers was playing and was to take the stage at 3p. Sarah had already found street parking when I arrived and it was just after 3p and the first thing she said was ' your guy is not playing' So we walked in and there was a young singer guitar player on the stage. Even though this place has a web site and an Instagram site, they don't update for current artist which is why I called I ahead. It turned out that David and partial band were starting at 330p. When I asked for the wine list, they were all blends. Not a single wine was a dedicated Merlot, Chardonnay, Cab Sav or other. She pointed me to the wine cooler and there were all these bottles that had funky looking/sounding labels but no where on the label dd it say what type of wine it was. We went back to the bar and ordered by the glass and I asked the lady if they allowed 'corking' in other words, bring your own wine, pay a fee and have a wine of your choice.. Her response was 'yeah, sure, people do it all the time' I said well 'how much does that cost' she says 'well, just walk over to the cooler over there and the prices are on the bottle' So, you kinda get the drift of how that went. Clearly, they want you to buy their beer & if you're a wine drinker you get no love here. You will pay $13 bucks for a 6 ounce pour of wine that no one knows what's in it except something blended. David and the band were great and I really liked the venue for a live performance. I hope you like dogs cause there are critters everywhere and that's all fine until the bulldog meets the terrier and they don't mix. It can get ugly, tough luck if you're there to enjoy the music. It is free so you can't complain too loudly. There are mostly picnic tables so be prepared to sit with the family, their dogs and all their kids. There are maybe 4 or 5 barrel like table tops with 3 to 4 high seats. Get there early or take your chances with the critters. They advertise they have food trucks. Not today though because they are all at the Southern Food Truck festival. No where on google was there any such festival posted. Good luck finding parking. They have no dedicated parking lot. You can park on the street or there is a gravel lot adjacent so be prepared if you just got your ride washed and detailed.

Drama, drama, drama. The service was great but the beer and the kombucha is too tart. Something is missing. The food truck outside was I think Korean? The food was amazing especially the dumplings. To much drama inside which looked like the owners friends had started a heated conversation with another group of people. Besides that commotion there was another flaky situation with a young woman with two guys and she was out loud saying negative comments about the musician and people walking by. A very angry woman giving negative gestures and comments about everyone around her. We're not sitting far from her and you can hear her. It's not a comfortable environment. its like another brewery friends of friends and no one is really friends.

No flights (half or full pours only) and no in house food. Interior isn't too large but right now, they're doing a good job of spacing everyone out. Music playing nice and low in the background. Because they don't do flights, I only tried a couple beers and both were fine...nothing earth shattering, nor were they bad by any stretch. They have maybe 15 beers on tap here. I found the beertender to be very friendly and he gave several recommendations without me even asking. They do have canned beers for takeaway and apparently, on Sundays they have free live music from 3 to 5 pm. This location is also dog friendly.

What a cool place, Clean, friendly, and right in the middle of this up and coming North Camp Area. It is not actually the brewery, it is more of an outlet for their brewery, but still pretty cool. They have a variety of Drinks to choose from even for us non-beer drinkers and the wife says the beer is good too. We will return, with friends and family. Very Relaxing.

Love love love this place!! Family owned, locally sourced with great hand-crafted beer. Plus, they're super generous in showcasing local artists and providing space for community gathering and events. Such an asset to Charlotte!

Free range is awesome and kid friendly brewery with a selection of toys and games for kids! We met friends here and it was my first experience here. The brewery has delicious beers they make and some from other places. I loved the porter from Free Range and then tried the Amor Artis beer Oatmeal raisin cookie that was phenomenal!!! It's awesome and tastes like a cookie!! I loved it!! We enjoyed the atmosphere and laid back people. I think the kid friendly toys and books are so thoughtful and helpful! Definitely recommend this brewery for families!! I was so excited about the beers I drank them before I could take a photo!

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and her parents for some afternoon drinks. Free Range is one of a number of breweries on North Davidson and we had driven past Free Range multiple times. Whenever the brewery we were visiting closed down early due to a private party, it provided the perfect reason to visit Free Range Brewing. The inside of the place is large with the brewing equipment in the front and a party room which was closed for a private party in the back. There is a large bar on one side and tables on the other with lots of quilting art for sale on the walls. The building itself looks like an old warehouse and so the ceiling and I beams are painted black although the ductwork is visible and still silver. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to try a flight here. Unfortunately, they don't do flights and so I settled for a kicking it (Carolina lightly smoked porter) instead. It was as described as you got those dark and malty flavors up front and then a bunch of campfire flavor on the back. I enjoyed this beer but I don't know that I could have had more than one as I was getting tired of that smokiness by the end of my 13 oz. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I enjoyed the beer that I got here and would be interested in trying more.

Hands down the best hand crafted beer in Charlotte. Made with almost ALL local ingredients is the award brewery which offers several award winning beers. Huge open space for family, friends, kids, and dogs. They offer live music, trivia and all sorts of other events that will bring the community together over a delicious hand brewed beer.

This past weekend I headed out with my fiancé and friends and checked out free range, it's always a must stop in noda as I just love their beer. The staff is always super nice and helpful, and of course they have delicious beer . The open area they have In the back for shows was open that has cornhole, photo booth and tons of seating. Loved chillin back there, and tons of inside seating which was bomb because it was so hot . I had a delicious "can't stop the feelin" Hazy ipa , coming in at 6.5% it was one of the best I've had In Charlotte! . Go to the noda area in Charlotte and stop here. You welcome! Cheers

Amazing selection of beer & ciders on tap, as well as kombucha for those who may be seeking a 0% ABV experience. Excellent service--I've been here many times over they years & have always encountered very friendly & knowledgeable staff. Broad variety of event offerings designed to build community--my favorites are the OrderFire episode screenings. In a city with so many brewery options it can be difficult to stand out & offer a memorable experience. Yet, Free Range does that & more. Cheers!

This was my first craft brewery visit in Crown Town and I have to say I was impressed! I loved the decor, openness, abundance of seating and natural light. The bartender we had was absolutely fantastic! Not only was he very well versed in their offerings he was so sweet to give us little "try before you buys". I feel like we practically drank the whole menu and nothing disappointed. They said they switch out the taps often, so that is awesome! I will definitely be back to check out some of their new offerings. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

We got Everything I Knead, a Carolina sourdough IPA and Susie was a Real Peach, a Carolina grisette with peaches. They were delicious and it was nice that we could get a half pint. Free Range Brewing was also taking a lot of great precautions due to COVID, including only doing table service.

Doesn't accept cash. Real US currency is denied here. It's absolutely ridiculous and inconvenient. I had one beer because they had already poured it, and it was like pulling teeth, trying to pay them with real money. They also don't have food...Won't be back, but I do highly recommend Rhino Deli next-door! They have $3.50 beer all day on draft, with a large selection, and some really great sandwiches.

I came in on a week day with my doggy and had a great experience! They have a covered indoor/outdoor area that allows dogs which is great for colder temps or rain. The bartender was very friendly and helped me make a great beer selection! Would definitely return.

I went here for an evening of classical music paired with lasers and had a great time! I love that they have a separate room for events and love shows - I think it gives performers more respect and space to do their craft. I found the folding seats super uncomfortable but they have other seating options in the back. The show was great, and I appreciated how it wasn't just a other night of live music with a guy and his guitar. Nothing wrong with that, but it's nice to have something different. I'm definitely interested in seeing what other unique events they have in the future. The server was welcoming and poured a couple of samples before I decided on a drink. I didn't love the wine that I had (it was a rose) but they had a Sauvignon Blanc that I'm keen to try next time I go. I enjoyed sampling their slushie - it was guava, I think, and very refreshing. You can get that mixed with or without prosecco. It was a great night and I hope to visit again soon.

I love this brewery but really have a bad taste in my mouth after a "public" event was handled in a really private way. I would love to support local artists and business but don't false advertise. if you want to have someone do all your friends tattoos at your work that's fine. just make it private next time. I wasted 3 hours, after a full day of work, patiently waiting and asked polite questions about the process only to be completely ignored and left feeling unwanted. I don't blame the artist, who was professional and answered all my questions, but if you want a private party, just be honest. idk how I feel about coming here anymore, which really is upsetting. Just be more honest in your marketing please.

Local brewery in the NoDa area. Plenty of parking and space inside! They had a few non IPA options-Cream of the crop was amazing! The staff were friendly and willing to give as many samples as needed to make sure you like the beer you get! Pro tip: There's a toy/play area with a giant chalkboard on the end of the bar for kids!

Free Range Brewing have alway have a special place in my heart. Due to their involvements in the community. Just like today. Keia, owner of Milk Glass Pies have left a no# of pies there for people like myself to pick up. Since she don't have a store front nor a food truck. When I arrived, there were a varieties of local vendors showcase their goods for people like us to see and purchase if we would like.. Their beers are all good. I haven't tried everything and of course I couldn't remember the names of what I tried. Alway been a little tipsy after a beer or two. And if there's no food vendors inside, they try their best to get a food truck to come by so we can alway have beers and food if we want.. Free Range have a listed of events going on at any given day. But it's alway local with people who represent Charlotte. So come by and see for yourself.

I really love this spot. It's so much lower-key than most breweries around Charlotte. It's filled with light and makes for a great hang spot. Grab a beer (or a few) and post up inside or outside, munch on some house-made snacks, and even enjoy live music! The space itself is beautiful: classic concrete flooring with an artful flair. There's a beautiful tile design behind the taps. There are bar seats, tables, and outdoor tables. There's also another room in the back where they have live music, yoga class, events, and more. They always have a wide variety of beers (and sizes). The bartenders are super nice and knowledgable and will help you find what you like. And because it's made right there, it's not too expensive. Did I mention the snacks? Get the snacks. The honey mustard pretzels are outta this world.

Ok all i have to say is that i love this place!!! My favorite choice: "Sea companions" (Carolina oyster stout) this is my favorite but other choices if you want something lighter the "Lighten up" is your way to go very refreshing. We went on a Sunday and they had free food. This place is great for the family. Great hangout spot. Thanks guys!!!

This is definitely one of my favorite breweries in Charlotte. Both locations are excellent but I'm partial to camp north end. They have a great selection of beers that they brew, as well as guest taps. They also have a wide selection of cans and wines available as well. Definitely something for everyone. The atmosphere is very laid back and makes for a great way to relax. Try the hazy ipa, you won't be disappointed.

Great experience here recently at the Lovin from the Oven bake sale. The brewery staff were friendly and helpful, even coming outside to let me know that my puppy was allowed in the big room (not the brewery room) if we wanted to come in, and offering to bring out a bowl of water. The area is under a lot of development so I am guessing there will be more patrons there in the near future, which makes me excited to see what new, fun beers they'll come up with!

Great atmosphere, A-OK beer! I feel like Free Range Brewing is catering more towards: groups, children (here me out, they're not encouraging underage drinking!), an older crowd. If you're looking for a large selection of great beer, I recommend you hit up Noda Brewing Company across the street. If you are looking for a larger space, beautiful atmosphere, child friendly area (yes, they have a carpeted "children's corner" or good place for a big group, this might be your spot. The brewery consists of two large and open spaces. The first houses the brew tanks, band area, small table tops and bar (seating and drink service). The second room is home to bar games, board games and long picnic table styles seating. The two rooms are adjoined by a large garage door and the "kiddie corner". What you won't find at Free Range Brewing are flights (this comes off as a bit odd in this age of craft beer drinking), although you CAN sample and/or order a half pint of anything on the board. I tried the Abstract Art, labeled a "juicy IPA" which is actually a pale ale. It was okay but not something I'd specifically return for. After my first experience, I'd return for the atmosphere, but not the beer.

I was super excited to try this brewery after reading the good reviews. I loved the tile display behind the tap handles, let you taste buds roam. Boyfriend and I really enjoyed the Call Me Mel & Call Me F.H. which is a brown ale (ask what it means). It will be interesting to see what they do with this space, I think that they have a few great options! I can't wait to return next time that I am in the area!

Top five breweries in Charlotte and a personal favorite, not least of all because my wife and I had our first date here years ago. Remember visiting in their early days and they have retained the intimate, family-friendly environment, even with the apartment building that grew up around them in 2019. Free Range was offering a variety of beverage options (beer, cider, kombucha, coffee, shrubs, etc) back when most places only poured beer. Their focus on local ingredients, art, and artists keeps this place quintessentially Charlotte and in good company with another Carolina standout like Fonta Flora. There are a variety of events here that certainly is true to the NoDa image, but I am happy to drive from across town to visit. They always have something new to try and while you can be sure there will be something accessible on tap for a non-beer-geek, you know that there is something that will be unique and perhaps event challenge your tastes. Free Range, both in environment and in the glass, transports you to a calmer state of being that is in clear view of the skyscrapers downtown/uptown, but might as well be a hundred miles away. With so many different kinds and sizes of breweries around town, Free Range still stands out for their unique beverages and cozy location.

Update! I have been back here several times and have always had a good time a great service. They have food on the menu, that tends to run out quickly, so it's hit or miss when it comes to that. The things that I've tried always taste good...so grab it all while you have the chance!!!! I have warmed up to the beers and have several delicious ones since my last review.

My friend and her boyfriend bring me to their favorite breweries in town. I think it has become my favorite out of all three breweries that we've been in one day. The atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and nice. They are very knowledgeable in helping me figure out what to get. The charcuteries were very delicious as well as the crackers that was included. Cream of the Top taste really smooth with a hint of buttery smell in it. Old North Shrub was good too. I also ordered a half pint of A Whole Latta Love which not in the photos below. I also like that one too. My overall experience at Free Range Brewing was very nice. I will def come back next time whenever I get to visit North Caroline again.

Came out for the Snooze sneak preview: breakfast for dinner. Impressed at the capacity of the location both indoors and parking. The space was open and bright, very wood-forward. The staff was friendly, if a little frazzled due to the crowd. Great live music and extremely family friendly (read: kids of all ages). Was glad to see an entire second menu for non-beer and small food items, although I'd probably leave hungry if it wasn't a special dinner night. Would absolutely come again for a chill afternoon, and probably get a cheese plate and non-beer booze.

We had the opportunity to experience a private tasting and brewery tour here with Jason who is one of the brothers that opened and operate the brewery and it did not disappoint. For the first 30-45 minutes Jason brought out and walked us through several different beers telling us about the ingredients and their sourcing as well as giving us background on the brewery itself from concept to their opening. The beers were amazing and it's obvious they work hard to think outside of the box to make more unique beers that are out of the ordinary but still very appealing to the occasional craft beer drinker. I personally am a huge craft beer fan while my wife very rarely drinks beer and we both loved every selection he brought out. He walked us through the brewing process and we were able to learn a lot about the different methods they u to create the incredible flavors that come out in their beer. They're in a really cool space in the NODA district and they have a welcoming atmosphere including a kids area which makes it a very family friendly environment but also provides separation for those that don't have children. If you have plans to visit the NODA area this is a must try spot. Heck, if you don't have plans to go to this area you should make plans just to check out Free Range (and of course then you'll be inclined to check out all the other cool breweries in the area as well). We will most definitely be back and can't wait to see what new offerings they'll have then.

This place is really cool! Very fresh vibe. Also beer and free yoga Thursday nights... gets crowded so arrive early. Hazy IPA is great. They also do some sort of organic something - not sure but looks cool too.

This is my first stop on a visit to North Carolina. It is going to be hard to top! The sour ale is one of the best I have ever had! Also tried the Saison with blackberry (My Heart and Soul) which was delicious. It will be worth the trip when I come and visit again, or maybe just to have another pint of We knead each other (I mean it is ONLY a 9 hour drive).

A nice space with good beer and friendly bartenders. Highly recommend. All of the beers I tried were very tasty and unique.

The cutest little craft brewery in NoDa. Great place to stop by, try some different beer and hang out. Staff very knowledgeable on beer and samples. Very relaxed environment and unique beverages. Worth the visit. Sampled and then found some great finds. Even brought some home labeled with details.

Stopped by on a late weeknight when football was on a huge screen in the back. Bar tenders really friendly. They had a collection of funky bar snacks to buy by the scoop and other locally made artesian foods. We grabbed take out and that was okay with the staff. Wit beer was good and Dan enjoyed his IPA. Seems like this brewery does collaborations with other local breweries. Nice vibe, space and beer. Will keep on the list to visit when back next year.
