Three-Year-Old Australian Cafe Bondi Harvest Closes in Santa Monica | Eater LA

"Presented by its owners as a free community gathering spot, it has become a flashpoint in Leimert Park for debates over gentrification and the viability of businesses when the price of a cup of coffee is zero." - Farley Elliott

July 12, 2025 (4.5 ⭐) - A visit to the Free Range Exchange provided the best breakfast sandwiches we have eaten. The coffee was pleasant and the atmosphere was great. Our breakfast choices included: the Bizwich, Bagelwich, Bacon Egg & Cheese English Muffin and fresh baked muffins. The Bagelwich was topped with a spread of apple butter which made it a sandwich to die for. The Bizwich was wrapped in a cheddar scone. This made for a truly unique breakfast sandwich. The coffee was good. The espresso was a little dark and not the best pull, but complimented the breakfast choices. We added a fruit bowl and strawberry banana smoothie to round out the meal. A nice visit all-in-all.

Great place to stop for breakfast or lunch! The breakfast sandwich my cousin and I had was spot on as well as the matcha! I’d definitely make the drive back here again :)

I got half way through my turkey provolone melt and had to leave a 5 star review. This place is lights out when it comes to food coffee drinks and more. Can’t recommend enough.

Google
definitely worth a visit. they’re prices are great and the people their are friendly. i got an americano and it was spot on, but nothing that knocked my socks off. they have some cute gift shop things like earrings and local doo dads. it seems like they’ve got a really close community bc there’s a huge wall for event and club posters. i didn’t see a bathroom or areas to plug into an outlet, but maybe i wasn’t looking too well. they do have wifi tho. they bring out your stuff to you too which i thought was nice.

My experience at the Lacrosse location was disappointing, to say the least. The staff seemed completely uninterested in serving me, and I was made to feel like an inconvenience. The woman who eventually took my order didn't even bother to thank me after I spent over $50 and left a generous tip. On the plus side, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was nice. I particularly enjoyed the beet salad and ended up buying a T-shirt. Unfortunately, the poor customer service has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I won't be returning.

The staff working yesterday weren’t very friendly, which was a noticeable change from past visits. Both drinks we ordered were poorly made—we ended up throwing half of them away. My matcha was only about half full to begin with, which was especially frustrating. I also noticed a drop in vegan options—there used to be several, but I only saw one this time. I’ve really enjoyed coming here in the past for a quick drink and a game, but after this experience, I’m not sure I’ll be back anytime soon.

I know the owners, so full disclosure! But I went yesterday and had Stuffed Red Pepper soup. It isn't a soup I would normally order, but I did anyway. It was SO DELICIOUS! Fresh and bright flavors, and came with a savory muffin that was lightly grilled and slightly crunchy and made for excellent dipping. And the muffins there top notch!

Tried their coffee for the first time this morning and let me tell you, it was the worst coffee I’ve ever ever had. I got one coffee and it was like $3.50 so I didn’t feel the need to leave a tip and oh boy she saw that and her whole demeanor changed real fast and looking at it now with how that coffee tasted I’m glad I didn’t pay a penny more for it yuk. Her attitude was crap and so was the coffee. Will never come back here again I do not recommend at all. You will be disappointed!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I've been to three other coffee shops in La Crosse and this is the best one I've been too! Went in the late afternoon, not crowded, plenty of street parking. Got a vanilla matcha and it's definitely made my top 5 list. They also had vegan bakery items!! So happy about that. Plenty of indoor seating and the bathroom is tucked away in a corner. Our barista was kind and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and I literally come everyday for my $2 bring your own mug coffee. I actually was pretty upset since they normally charge for the cup, the cream and a credit card charge! However; all is good. And let's not forget to mention the food! Cooked fresh, hot and tasty. The baked goodies are wonderful as well. What really makes this place is the service! The girls running the show are the absolute best! It doesn't get much better than this! I'll be back!

Yelp
I always wonder what to give a coffee shop for a score when they are out of your drink. Last week Thursday morning, I ordered a large black cold brew of which I was told they were out. Now I am a 30 year black cold brew snob and love going to a different independent coffee house to try its unique flavor as everyone does it slightly different. After my dang, I should have just tried another location in town, but she asked if I would like to purchase a nitro instead which they had in tap. I reluctantly ordered it just to keep the line moving and also a scone which was very tasty and inexpensive at $2.00. I took one sip of the nitro and crushed the scone. I sat in the coffee shop for an hour getting some work completed and it looked like a steady flow of customers. Nice ambiance Good Service Solid scone Lack of my coffee drink Overall 3 because it is a coffee shop and cold brew is on the menu

Yelp
Stopped in for some coffee and breakfast and loved this little local spot. The breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burrito were loved by all as well as our coffee. Also loved the open air concept. Will definitely be back next time I'm in La Crosse!

Yelp
The monkey bun latte was very good, breakfast sandwiches and pastries were tasty and a good price, and the vibe inside was super cute! We went twice on our weekend stay in La Crosse! Such a gem!

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in La Crosse! I stopped in several times last week. With a modern and inviting interior, they have seating both inside and outside. The food menu is small, but they have some solid options - highly recommend the Bizwich which takes breakfast sandwiches to another level. They also have unique coffee flavors that you're not going to find elsewhere. I personally enjoyed the latte with local maple syrup. If you're looking for something sweet, there's a case full of cakes and pastries that are hard to choose between as well. Luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you to decide.

Yelp
Everyone should visit the Free Range Exchange in La Crosse, WI. I was so impressed with the venue, the palate pleasing food, the friendly service, and the outdoor patio. I am ready for a return visit.

Yelp
This is a lovely place for breakfast and lunch. A cheerful, charming interior, tasty breakfast burritos and egg sandwiches, flavorful coffee without bitterness, and easy, plentiful parking. I also appreciate they open at 6am, which is a bit earlier than other venues nearby and matches my schedule.

Yelp
I had the African peanut stew and it was hearty and warm. Good flavor. The Bizwich was a tasty breakfast sandwich with a delicious jalapeño biscuit. The ambience is hip and gifts in shop are wellness focused. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Kind staff and amazing food. We were in town for the high school state track meet and stopped by for breakfast and coffee. Breakfast sandwhiches were AMAZING coffee was very good too but sandwhiches were especially delicious. Loved the indoor/outdoor seating as well. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly! Their grab and go food is just as good as their dine-in options and I appreciate their dedication to farm to table food in the Coulee Region! Also, the patio is so nice on a sunny morning!

Yelp
Great food and coffee drinks! Service was good. Ambiance was modern and country cute. Great place to work from out of the office.

Yelp
Meh. Decent coffee. Dry muffins. Was my first time. May give another try next time i am in town.

Yelp
We ordered two flavored iced coffees. The order was repeated back correctly and no other questions were asked after ordering. Normally I'm asked if I want cream or at least there's room left for some, but not here. I thought it was weird, but thought it would be fine with just the flavoring, but it just tasted like slightly burnt coffee. Not even a hint of flavor. If we hadn't gotten them to go I would have complained. I'm not sure if I'll be going back.
