Skip Champagne: Pop Bottles of California-Made Bubbles on New Year’s Eve - Eater SF

"Making wine from flowers dates back thousands of years. During the Han Dynasty, chrysanthemum wine was prized for its health benefits. Aaliyah Nitoto has always been obsessed with lavender and its clean, spicy, and relaxing scent, so she decided to make wine from 100 percent organic lavender. The wine opens with a soft fruity nose, but it’s brisk and lightly effervescent with zesty citrus peel and slightly bitter lavender notes balanced by powdery florals on the palate. It turns out lavender contains linalool, one of the same terpenes that enables CBD to create full body relaxation. The winery just moved to Livermore and hopes to open for tastings early in 2022, but the wine is available in local stores, and they deliver in the Bay Area. About $23 for a 375ml bottle." - Maria C. Interesting concept! We did the flight of 4 for $25 each. They were actually good, which is better than I was expecting. The rose hibiscus was my clear favorite, while my husband preferred the sparkling red clover. We both agree that lavender is not for us. Our server mentioned that marigold is generally a favorite, but it was a solid third place for both of us.

Super cute spot to sit and have a drink on a nice day. We came to see some live music and the wine and lovely service was an added bonus! I really enjoyed the sparkling clover.

Amazing wine maker! All of the wines are produced from flowers! Aaliyah Nitoto is a passionate wine maker who produces incredible wines, which are made from different flowers. The winery is co-located with longevity wines!

We cannot recommend Free Range Flower Winery enough! We have ordered from Free Range in the past, and were excited to work with Aaliyah for our wedding in Mill Valley at the end of July 2023. From the moment we reached out, Aaliyah was very helpful in working with our budget and wedding parameters. She was very responsive over email and over calls to make sure that we had our preferred wines (and the appropriate quantities) at our wedding. Prior to completing our final purchase, we had the chance to enjoy a few drinks at their beautiful tasting room in Livermore and to meet the wonderful Aaliyah and her team in-person. We ended up tasting and adding their new Rose Petal (a crowd favorite at our wedding!) to our existing orders of RoseHybiscus, Marigold, and Lavender. On our wedding day, the wines were a hit among our guests especially for a summer wedding and folks loved the beautiful designs as well. We were so happy to have been able to work with Free Range Flower Winery and introduce their wines to so many new folks!

My wife and recently had a bit of a stay-cation. We planned little day trips to various unique spots that piqued our interest. That is why we went to Free Range Flower winery. They are housed in an industrial area of Livermore....quite out of the way. We met the lovely Aaliyah and her friend Kana. Aaliyah is filled with entrepreneurial passion and vigor. Her joy is infectious. As we sipped 4 lovely wines: Rose-Hibiscus, Rose Petal, Marigold, and a lovely wine made from a blend of flower pedals. The wines were lovely with a crisp finish. Each was serve chilled a bit but the flavors "blossomed" as the wine warmed some. My wife and I are committed to get the word out about FRFW; bringing friends and family with us to visit. Aaliyah and Kana have the drive and energy that make America great. We pray for their success and growth. A truly unique experience!

Aaliyah and team have something really special going on here. Wines are unique, some a little quirky (in a fun way!) and the tasting experience is unlike anything other. You will leave raving. Show some love for this business!

One of the biggest challenges for non-wine professionals is learning to identify floral and herbal aromas and tastes in a variety of wines. Aaliyah Nitito of Free Range Floral Winery has taken out the guesswork by crafting “wine made from flowers not grapes” “fermented not infused” from California grown, organic or wild foraged flowers. Articles in Wine Enthusiast and Huff Post caught my attention and made me reconsider my “That’s not real wine”, my go to response to the fruity swill made from everything but grapes that is peddled by some. Curiosity got the better of me after perusing the website and after a careful wait-out-the-heat shipping policy, my bottles arrived. “L” Lavender Wine - drinks like a sparkling rose. “Assertive floral notes with an implied sweetness” Couldn’t have said it better myself-implied sweetness, not actual, being the operative words. 13.5 % abv. RoseHybiscus- a Pinot Noir wannabe with sandalwood and vanilla aromas and a touch of sage and raspberry on the palate. 14% abv. Delish! Marigold- with mown grass, juicy citrus, thyme and salted caramel notes 12% abv. This is an exciting new genre, as exciting as exploring a new wine region. Curiosity and an open mind can pay big dividends. Stay open to new ideas!

I haven't visited the winery yet. But I can tell you that the Lavender (L) wine is perfect. In my opinion it's smooth with no after taste and not over powering. The customer service is even better from the owners. When I had questions about the wine club and different wine offerings, I received an immediate response. I look forward to an in person tasting when time permits.

Yelp
Amazing owner and novel experience. Go!! You will have a wonderful time! And the wine is good.

Yelp
The second place in our day of wine tasting in Livermore was at Free Range Flower Winery. The wines are made with flowers, different combinations and some fruit, like oranges. This is a cozy place tucked away in a small back street, there is space for 2 tables and standing room inside as well as outside seating. There is also a ramp for wheel chairs. Plenty of parking. The flight has 4 pours and costs $25. The owner/pourer is very knowledgeable about the wines she makes and engaging. You get a small bowl of mixed nuts to go with the tasting. We were really excited to taste the wines and help support the small business owner but unfortunately the wines were not to our taste The lavender had a very strong smell and taste of lavender, almost like soap/lotion. The resident, 20 year old dog Fana was a cutie and very loving, added to the experience! She also offers a chocolate pairing and the bottles are beautifully designed. It is a small business, woman and black owned and everyone should try it out!

Yelp
No ambiance. Cold stark room. No introduction, information about the wines, nothing. Four wines tasted were awful, we all seven agreed. Expensive garbage.

Yelp
What a unique concept. Wine made from flowers. Thoroughly enjoyed the tasting here. You get to sample 5 varietals of wine made from flowers. Lovely small business owner. Come check them out. Parking was street parking, I'm not sure if they have a parking lot.

Yelp
Black owned, beautiful design, delicious wines, delectable chocolates, fabulous music, excellent service, absolute perfection (board games comfy furniture, complete sensual experience, beauty personified). Best. Vibe. Ever.

Yelp
Every. Single. Time. Delicious wine! Fabulous customer service. Quality. Chef's kiss. Mic drop.

Yelp
I greatly enjoyed the variety of flower wines while being a member of their wine club, my very favorite was the delicious and infamous Rose wine... I loved them so much I got the restaurant where I work to carry the Lavender wine on draft for over a year. Aaliyah is a force of nature, and Sam is just a delightful human. Give these unique wines a try right now!

Yelp
This winery is different from the rest. The owner, a black owned kick ass lady, uses edible flowers to make wine. We joined her wine club but couldn't make it often so had to sadly end it. But if you're looking for something different yummy and attention getter, this is it. The owner is sweet friendly and so so nice. Her employees are super friendly and very accommodating. She is located in Livermore off 580 take Vargas road. I have given the wines as gifts and have made a lot of friends happy

Yelp
The first sip and I was in love. In my younger life I enjoyed my grandmothers farm made flower wines and this refreshing adventurous wine brought a big HAPPY to my senses. I truly enjoyed Rose Hibiscus and am anxious to find Lavender and Rose Petal somewhere. The owners are wonderfully friendly and will help locate a retailer with their wine available. I don't like sulfites and they don't like me so this wine completes my chill time with zero bad affects. You've got to try this wine. Beautiful notes of fragrance hit olfactory receptors and you are immediately in your happy place. So glad I found this wine. Worth every penny.

Yelp
Sam & Aaliyah of the Free Range Flower Winery went above & beyond incredible customer service to help me surprise my best friend on her birthday in quarantine. I ordered the wonderful Trio, which included the famous "L" Lavender Wine, the RoseHybiscus, & the Marigold--all well worth a try. Sam duly noted my request that the shipment arrive exactly on my friend's birthday & even followed up with me once the wines were delivered. I was so thrilled that I ordered a Trio for myself as soon as they were back in stock. If you're looking for a unique gift for a loved one or want to bring something different to your next wine tasting with friends, you certainly won't be disappointed with the quality, selection, & customer service at Free Range Flower Winery.

Yelp
Free range wine is so different and cool! Really blows my mind about the flowers. My favorites are the rose hibiscus and the marigold. Definitely ups your brunch game and their so light. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The guava flower wine was lightly sweet with refreshing fruity undertones. Having a glass by the fire was just the thing I needed after a week of remote work from home.

Mica S.

Yelp
Beautiful wine! Fresh. Floral. Fabulous! It's an absolute must you visit the winery and taste for yourself.

Yelp
I've just enjoyed my second delivery from Free Range Flower Winery: I had just returned from being away for two weeks, and the lavender sangria turned out to be just the perfect way for my wife and me to celebrate a reunion - especially on such a hot day, with no air conditioning. It was such a refreshing cooler, not too sweet, and not too heavy on the lavender flavor (which I often worry can be overwhelming). Really delightful! Aaliyah and Sam have a great thing going -- with a masterful understanding of winemaking and blend, and excellent personal customer service. Get to know them while you can, and get your names on the list for future releases!

Yelp
My first thought when I saw the article in the East Bay Express was "wow, I've never heard of such a thing," and I'm so very glad that I made the trek to the tasting and launch of their Lavender wine last Friday. What is Lavender wine you ask? I couldn't believe it either, but it's actually wine created by fermenting LAVENDER... Whaaaaaaa?! For those in the know (and now I can count myself among them), this apparently has been going on for thousands of years, and yet a search for more information on "flower wines", leads me right back to Free Range Flower Winery (LOL, figures :-). I'm a simple wine aficionado; if it tastes good, it tastes good... and the freshman offering from Free Range Flower TASTES GOOD. It's hard to explain, but it's not some radical, off the deep end, bleeding edge product (and that's a good thing). I will leave the nuanced descriptions to a future reviewer, but it's is definitely something to experience. I am really looking forward to their next rumored production (Rose Hibiscus) after of course a repeat performance for the Lavender Wine. These days, with the speed of progress and innovation, it's quite rare to find and experience something "new" (even if it's really old); if you get the chance, count yourself lucky to partake in the lost art of Free Range Flower Winery.

Yelp
Oh My GOD!! Ok I'm not a wine aficionado...BUT I have been wine tasting quite a bit in my day to know a thing or two. Point Blank: it's yummy!! I could sip this all day and yes I'm sipping now and hope I don't have typos in this review but mmmmm I feel so fancy! This is the type of wine I would gift to people to impress them and gift myself to impress myself ;)

Yelp
last night, I enjoyed my first bottle of Free Range Flower Wine - RoseHibiscus! Absolutely exquisite! I am a lover of a healing Hibiscus /Lavender/Rose Hip tonic I learned from a physician in Egypt. I drink it daily and always look for hibiscus 'drinkables. This did not disappoint. I found myself placing the glass to my nose because the hibiscus aroma was so soothing. Thanks for showing up in my life, Free Range! I'll let you know when I try my Marigold white and Lavender in a flute!

Yelp
Who knew lavender wine could be so satisfying! I got a taste at the launch party and couldn't leave without buying a bottle. So flavorful and intriguing. I drink a lot of wine and I've never experienced another like their lavender wine!

T. A.

Yelp
Too bad I will never be able to taste their wine. She was rude on the phone, when I asked to whom I was speaking to. She immediately gave the phone to the man, mumbling in the background. He quickly said how can I help you. I always get name of who I am talking to in case I have to call back. I wanted to know process of this wine, since I have allergies. He stated we are very busy trying to get out 1000 orders & a lot of phone calls. Too busy? Hire more staff so you can treat the customer with respect. Never again.....

Denise F.

Yelp
This was the best wine tasting. So incredibly different. You have to try this. People so friendly and personable. I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Being a lover of all things lavender I was so excited to learn about the lavender wine that Free Range Flower Winery is producing. Sam went above and beyond to deliver the wine to me so I could taste it as soon as possible. Upon drinking it I was very surprised about the complexity of it . The smell, taste and finished are all distinctly different from one another and allow you to experience the whole lavender plant . It really is something very special. I am now a huge fan and will be anxiously awaiting new releases. Thanks again for the wonderful service and easy communication about my order .
