3 Best Day Trips from Venice | Condé Nast Traveler

"If you’re into real estate porn, it doesn’t get much more spectacular than the villas built by Andrea Palladio. The influential Renaissance architect was responsible for some of the most beautiful buildings of the 16th century, catering especially to the demands for country houses from Venice’s growing bourgeoisie. The structures themselves are classical in style, inspired by his study of traditional Roman houses, and often filled with stunning frescoes and surrounded by bucolic gardens. Perhaps the best known are Villa Foscari (a.k.a. “La Malcontenta”), Villa Almerico Capra, and Villa Maser. You could rent a car and pack a few into one day, or pick one and make an afternoon out of it, with stops to refuel at the funky, self-service Righetti (near La Rotonda) or the pizza spot Al Giardinetto (on the way to Foscari)." - Andrea Whittle

Spectacular tour all from a locals perspective. Loads of stories and information about the city, its history and details you wouldn't get from most tourist attractions or other tours. Completely recommend taking any tour with Lucia if you are around Venice. You would surely enjoy it.

We participated in a small and nice tour. Lucia was superb! She was so detailed and interesting. She also gave us many tips on our stay in Venice. Really recommended!

What a brilliant tour! We took part in the “Venice through the centuries North” free walking tour, led by Simone. Simone was passionate and knowledgeable! I had never visited Venice before and didn’t know much about the history there! This tour was perfect to get a real feel for the place and learn some of the history/hear some interesting stories! We could have easily stayed with Simone for the day to hear even more - as our 2 hours flew by! Simone even finished the tour by giving us with some food and drink recommendations for during our stay!

This was a fabulous tour with Lucia. The weather was terrible and we debated whether we wanted to actually go, but I'm so glad we did! Lucia is an excellent guide. She took us to areas that we wouldn't have seen otherwise, and pointed out sights that we wouldn't have noticed. It was so informative and it was also fun. It was great to see areas that weren't overrun with other tourists (and I say that knowing that I'm a tourist). I highly recommend Lucia and hopefully if (when) I go back to Venice again, I'll do another tour with her.

Its a must Getting away from the busy streets and learning some interesting facts about venice what can be better? Of course the right tour guide. Lucia didn't carred for the weather her tour took still place. She is sympatico and has a bubbly personally which maked it even better. Also the list of nice foodplaces was helpful and tastey.

I took the Northern Venice tour with Alice, and the Southern Venice tour with Lucia during my stay in Venice. These two tours were created as complimentary tours to one another, and I am very happy that I went on both. I was very impressed with both tours. Alice is a great speaker, and I enjoyed listening to her throughout the tour. She gave a great synopsis of Venetian history, and she gave great tips for how to spend our time in Venice. At the beginning of Lucia's tour, she pulled out a flag and put on a microphone, which are two things I have never seen on a free tour, so it felt very professional. Throughout the tour she gave great information about the history of Venice, as well as local tips in order to have the most authentic Venetian experience possible. At one point we even had time to step into one of the churches on the tour and take a look around - another thing that has never happened on any free tour I have been on. At the end of each tour, the guide passed around a list that contained must-see locations, restaurants, food and drinks to try, transportation tips, and more. I assumed that these lists were created by the tour guide company; however, Alice's and Lu's lists were different, which was wonderful because it gave variety to the things on the list. We were able to take pictures of this lists, and I referred to them frequently throughout my trip. Alice also passed out maps at the end of her tour which had more suggestions of things to do and see while in Venice. Both tours were absolutely wonderful, and two of the most impressive free tours I have experienced.
