"For a cold beer in The Dalles, Freebridge downtown is the place to go. Located in a restored historical building from the mid-1800s, Freebridge focuses on German lagers and Northwest ales including its staple, the Pulpit Rock Pilsner. Pair it with a Detroit-style pizza made with the brewery’s American Lager in the dough. Happy hour also runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with $1 off pints and $2 off appetizers." - Melissa Haskin, Molly Allen

The Bake Oven is fantastic! I love a dark lager and this one is fantastic technically a Schwartz Bier, nonetheless an excellent malty delicious brew! Dog friendly outside seating is much appreciated. Food is pretty darn good, everything was actually. Thai Chicken wrap, pizza, and a burger. Also, The bathroom was super clean, modern (tile floor and walls) and largely touch free. Bartender was super friendly. Love this place, would be stoked to be a mug clubber here, ceramic mugs!

Came for the beer, stayed for the food. The chicken bacon ranch pizza was perfectly balanced. The sauce was just right, with not so much that you can't taste all the other toppings. The soup of the day "poor man's stew" was anything but a poor man's meal, and tasted very high quality. The Special, smoked brisket with Cole slaw, Mac salad, and corn bread was phenomenal, with the glaze over the melt in your mouth meat was perfect and not overpowering, with a lovely flavor. Staff was friendly and the lighting in the room was a great vibe. Oh, and of course the drinks were good! Fairly priced.

Down in the area for work and I stopped in for an aftet work beer and dinner. Pork belly Mac and cheese was amazing. Super yummy! The meatball sub was huge and almost had to be taken home....almost! Great service and great atmosphere and the beer was great. Will definitely be stopping in again on our next trip through the area!

We visited many breweries on this trip and this one was good.... but not as great as others. I really like the atmosphere.... the false storefront look dividing the brewery area from the pub is a cool idea. The service was good. We did the taster of beer but the only one that we really liked was the Stout. We were hungry and the menu looked good despite several cross outs, so we ordered a couple happy hour items. The potato poppers sounded good but they came a little under cooked and only 3 slices... pretty small portions. The nachos were also a little small too. We were still hungry after those so we ordered a Cuban sandwich - really good.... and really big. Ended up taking half to reheat later! Overall it was a good experience, but compared to other stops on our trip, not at the top. We would visit again next time and sample beers again.

Came with my wife and baby for my first Father's Day. I tried a flight of six beers, all of which were good, a few outstanding. We came back the next day for lunch and the food was excellent (Monday taco plate, and tuna melt).

Google
Amazing!!! Atmosphere was great, food was spectacular, and beer was top notch. Had the Thai Chicken wrap and peanut sauce that came with it was out of this world. To drink I had a “Choc Work Orange” chocolate porter and the “Slap & Pickle” Gose. Both amazing and you can tell they take pride in their beers. If you’re in The Dalles on your way to or from Portland do yourself a favor and stop here. You won’t regret it!

Google
After a full day of travel, road worn and weary we stopped in for craft brews and selected an untraditional pizza …apples, ricotta, bacon…way wow! The two amber beers were the perfect balance! Met the manager Steve who was engaging and so kind!

Monica C.

Yelp
If there was ever a meatball you'd write home about, this is that very ball of meat. Tender, toothy, and covered in a decadent ricotta sauce; this appetizer was the belle of my meatball. The pizza wasn't too shabby either. A chewy warm crust smothered in perfectly melted cheese and sweet tomato sauce. The meal preparation was long and arduous, and the brewery's decor is what one would call, lacking, but the overall experience was memorable with the good nosh and a full belly.

Heather D.

Yelp
Really really great chicken sandwich. Excellent pickle. One of the pizzas we ordered was a little late coming out but it's probably because they were making it so damn good. Great spot.

Sandra L.

Yelp
The brewery restaurant is nice and clean. The ambiance was comfortable with nice wood glow which is not expected for a pub. There are several tables which would be good for groups. The staff was nice and attentive except for once you get the pizza they do not ask how your meal is or if you need anything. I had to search a server out to get a fork to eat my melted soup pizza . I was really disappointed because I was excited to try their pizza. Sadly it was one of the worst pizza's I have ever had. I should have ordered their standard pizza instead I ordered the "special" Detroit Pizza. I was told it was a thicker crust pizza with sausage and mushroom. The server told me I could choose any two toppings her suggestion was sausage and pepperoni. I regretfully took her advice and ordered the sausage pepperoni. The pizza came soaked in grease due to the burnt pepperoni and minced sausage. When I took a slice the cheese melted across my plate running with the grease. The crust was not fluffy /thick it was raised around the edges but flat or sunk in, in the center. I could only eat 1/2 a slice because it was so salty. The pizza was coated in salt. The crust was only made of salt. Then topped salty cheese, pepperoni and sausage. I have eaten Detroit style of pizza at other establishments never have I had a pizza this terrible. My husband took the pizza to go. He promised the pizza would be better the next day with ranch. The only to-go container are precut pieces of tin foil. Because our pizza was soupy we had to use several pieces of foil to wrap the pizza securely. The whole experience was not good.

Chenin G.

Yelp
Had the special, an heirloom pesto pizza. Oh man, sooooooo good!! Loaded with pesto and fresh heirlooms from up the road in Mosier and a most excellent balsamic reduction. Their beers are fantastic too. We ordered inside and both the gals who were there were super friendly. Nice little patio on the street. Thanks!

Kevin R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great service. Oh, and the best beer around!!! I definitely recommend this pl

Carter N.

Yelp
Great service foods was as expected. Atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. Music was playing very nice place would love to come back and eat out side in the summer time.

JB B.

Yelp
Nice place, some historical events and things happened here, clean place to sit down even the restrooms are nice.good location right off 2nd street.easy access.friendly staff and helpful with beer samples so can taste what your getting beforehand.

Linda D.

Yelp
Tons of locals. Hopping business. Great vibe! Worked with us on food allergies. Nice selection of beer.

Heidi S.

Yelp
Great spot to stop along the Gorge! The quality of the meat toppings was excellent--and I'm not usually a fan of multiple meat toppings. The Harvest pizza with apples, bacon, and garlic was also fantastic. As a fan of breweries, I highly recommend the Marzen here, as well as What the Kids want IPA. We intend to visit again on our next trip along this route!

Yelp
On a River Boat Cruise and wanted to see if Freebridge Brewing was as good as we remembered. It was! Beer was good and refreshing. Pizza had a zip to it and the crust was perfect. Service was friendly and quick.

Carol B.

Yelp
It's okay. Would be great if they had better service. Long wait. No Hgfpupbvutclhdmyeztlet

Devyn H.

Yelp
Good food, good drinks, great atmosphere, view of the River. Try their burger They also have a great outdoor space with a firepit!

Steve P.

Yelp
Pizza and beverages were great. Staff was super friendly despite being overly busy. I had my dog so we sat outside on the patio. There isn't a lot of seating outside and there was a car show happening in town so a bit noisy on the street with muscle cars showing their stuff.

Michele G.

Yelp
First time here! Ordered a flight (good pours) and the pretzel bites! Good service, attentive and friendly. We will be back next time in town and will try some of the other menu items!

Alden C.

Yelp
Freebridge Brewing was a brewery we paid a visit to before the covid-19 situation closed so many businesses and traveling came to a screeching hault... at least for Steven and me! I appreciate this trip as well as all of our previous day and weekend trips we do in Washington and Oregon now that our wings are clipped! Anyway our experience at Freebridge was a fun one. The location is cool... yoga was going by the brewing tanks and upstairs where you get served proved to be very relaxed with a atmosphere to enhance that! We got two different beers here... a wonderful Helles Lager and a delightful pilsner. Both lightnin abv but totally and completely enjoyable all of the same! Staff here were informative and friendly making this brewery stop one that was well worth while!

Connie C.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while as it's on our list for the Gorge Beer Guide! Number #9 on our list. Loved the beers, especially the Coal Car imperial porter and the Muleskinner stout. Loved the beer cheese and one star lost for the prices for some food items. The staff was so friendly and welcoming!

P W.

Yelp
Their homemade pretzel bites were being awesomely delicious. Muleskinner stout was smoother and boarding on coffee/chocolate, yum. Definitely on out list to stop here anytime we are driving thru.

Kat S.

Yelp
They have a PICKLE BEER!!! It's amazing. It's a pretty cool place, haven't had food but would definitely go back to hang with my friends for a round or 3.

Matthew L.

Yelp
We like to stop in here when passing through, generally on a fishing trip. They have at least one dark beer and it is solid, lots of IPAs. Food is pub like but better than average for sure.

Matthew D.

Yelp
Went twice my first time the food was good the next time I went it wasn't as good it's a little pricy and the service is slow

Tim S.

Yelp
This is a place that I look forward to visiting whenever I come to The Dalles. I have never had poor service, I always enjoy their food (pretty much always order the pizza and a small garden salad), and always leave content. Their brews are very good -- my current fave is Scandalous, a pale ale, although the IPAs tickle my taste buds as well. The pizza is delicious and comes in two sizes (10" and 16"). The crust is made with their stout ale, and the menu advertises it as vegan. I have especially enjoyed the Little Italy (with added red onion), the Freebrdige, and the Dragon -- none of those are vegan, btw. The menu is online, so you can have an idea of what you might wish to order, even before walking in. The servers have always been very friendly and efficient, and have always added to the enjoyment of my experience in this brewpub. My only regret is that I don't pass through or stay in The Dalles often enough to be able to visit as frequently as I would like.

Esther H.

Yelp
Great pizza, fun staff. Good service, but food is sometime cold if you sit outside due to distance from kitchen.

Leisyka P.

Yelp
Cool old building that was originally supposed to be a Mint. Three stories, a lower outside seating... then mid level just outside the tasting room, and an indoor tasting area. Tammy took great care of us, even tho she was the only person working there with multiple tables! We were impressed. We really liked both of their IPAs, The Dirty Juicy IPA and the Cold Willie. Yum! The cherry salad was really good with a ranch dressing and the Freebridge pizza 10" was plenty for 2. Great recommendation from a fellow Yelper! Thanks Tim!

Jill N.

Yelp
Would give this place 10 if I could. Tamara is so fun. Wish she was my next door neighbor. The flight of brews was wonderful and made my husband very happy. They also have some wines to taste.

Dennis M.

Yelp
What a great little place in The Dalles. First customers of the day. Bar keep friendly and informative. Purchased the beer flight. Ordered a pizza. Both good. Ordered a growler of their Helles to go. Great ambience. Kinda weird layout as restaurant is in back of their warehouse ops. Follow the signs. Highly recommended.

Morgan B.

Yelp
Great place with a very nice atmosphere. Dog friendly for outside seating too! We came here on a Saturday for a late lunch and ordered the Freebridge Pizza (beer cheese base!) and a couple drinks. We sat on the patio with our dog and they had multiple dog water bowls available. Pizza, beer, and ciders were delicious and the service was great.

Jason B.

Yelp
Awesome beer! The staff always are very nice to us. The beer list always has something new. We love the chopped salad bbq pizza and the chilidog.

Miz P.

Yelp
In town for the Columbia Gorge half marathon tomorrow so wanted to find a place for dinner that would be easy on the stomach and tasty. The food and beer meets expectations. We ordered the Greek and classic pizzas plus the bbq chicken. Unfortunately one of the pizzas that came out wasn't one we ordered. They were very kind about it and twenty minutes later the pizza we didn't order returned with toppings of the pizza we did order. Frankly it tasted fine so we ate it but it did give reason to knock down a star of what would be a four star review otherwise. Be prepared to wait for your food to come out but enjoy a beer while you do.

Roger M.

Yelp
Cool brewery vibe! Excellent service for a party of 12 thirsty & hungry groupies with the Friends of the Columbia River Gorge --- back from viewing Bald eagles at the Dalles Dam. Really good sandwiches and pizza! Good beer made here! Good cheer! Stop here --- when you are on an outing into the Columbia River Gorge. Good place to chow down and beer up and kick back and chit-chat about your day in the Gorge.

Jim V.

Yelp
Really fantastic beer accompanied by outstanding service. One of the best places to get a pint or a bite in town.

Julia D.

Yelp
Beautiful building. Like seriously. The beer was also pretty good. That was about it. There was too much junk on both our pizzas. My crust was different than my man's crust (his was way better). "Different batch?" our server said. Inconsistent, you mean. And both pizzas somehow managed to come out without being hot at all. No idea how that happened. The "beer cheese" was hideous. I saw the pictures on Yelp of it being nearly translucent, but I ordered it anyway. Big mistake. If it isn't just beer mixed into Tostitos nacho cheese, I'd be very surprised. This is not an insult to our server in any way, but she seemed to have a difficult time interacting. Shy, maybe? Did not handle direct questioning or feedback well at all. Then after we boxed up our pizza (that we aren't going to finish), she let us hang out at our unbussed table to finish our beers. Lastly, it's incredibly rude to put all the chairs up in a room that still has customers in it. Yeah, we get you wanna leave "on time" but save that step for the very end. We won't be back.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Great staff and great atmosphere for any occasion!! Glad this place has come back to life !!

Anita M.

Yelp
We have stopped here twice (so far) when traveling thru. They have pretty decent beers and GREAT pizzas!

Joanette B.

Yelp
Love there chili nachos, hard apple cider, beer and great pizza. The service is really good too. Love stopping in when we are in town.

Shannon T.

Yelp
Came here after a hike nearby. I really enjoyed the Freebridge pizza, it was so good! Definitely recommend that one. They had beer on tap which my friend enjoyed (I got a cider since unfortunately I'm not really a beer person, but the the marionberry one they had was really good). Their covid precautions was good and systematic. Also there was a lot of nearby parking at the time! I would come back when hiking around there again!

Amber T.

Yelp
Really good pizza and great service. Will definitely stop again when driving through and recommend to others.

Rodger D.

Yelp
Fabulous beer and food! Great atmosphere and outdoor seating. Kind to doggies as well.

Dan R.

Yelp
Review 400, just fell that way. Cute signs out front. You walk around the production facility--open and industrial, into the pub, with some antiques and western saloon feel. Very friendly service, tasty beers. The pretzel bites tasty; the pizza looked good but i was just watching.

Bryan G.

Yelp
Great little brewery. The beer was good the service was good and the pizza I saw being served looked really good. I will definitely stop in here again. But next time I am ordering some food too.

Cara E.

Yelp
Great pizza! We were intrigued reading that they substitute beer for water when making the dough. I really enjoyed the cashew sauce on my vegan pizza, instead of vegan cheese. It was delicious! I love that the place is a working brewery & in an old building bursting with history, like many others in The Dalles. I'm pregnant so couldn't sample the beers. My husband enjoyed the Dirty IPA. We will def be back. Bonus points for having a dog-friendly outdoor patio. #dogfriendly #vegan

Mark Maureen C.

Yelp
The food was good but it took 45 minutes to get it. Service was friendly but slow. Not a good place to stop for a quick bite to eat.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Made the trip down the Gorge to check out a few new-to-me breweries during the Zwickelmania event last weekend. Freebridge Brewing stuck out my favorite. Building is big, with lots of room to grow, and the little hidden tap room is cozy and cool. The brewer mentioned that they want to focus on German beers, but the tap list seemed to skew mostly to Pales and IPAs the day I was there. All the beers were good, but the few German styles that were on were very good. I'm excited to see what they can do in the future. We'd left and came back after seeing a pizza on our way out. While it wasn't quite as good as it looked, all the food was pretty good. A bit of a journey for me, but if I'm back out that way, I"ll be dropping in again for sure.

Amy R.

Yelp
Another little place to try in the Dalles area. An interesting approach to the main area. Great beer, Dirty Juicy and Navigation Impossible. Friendly staff and great service. Two blocks from another brewery making it easy to try them both. Next time we will try the food too. Definitely a place to stop on your way through the area.

Sebastian K.

Yelp
I've slowly been collecting all the Gorge breweries according to the stamp book, and this one was the furthest away from me. I had actually never stopped in The Dalles despite numerous road trips through the area, and this was a great place to take a break and sample some beers. The location is beautiful, and is an old building with tons of interior space for the fermentation tanks and the tap room itself. There is plenty of seating outside and in, and they serve a variety of food. I went with a half order of pork nachos for six dollars, and it was huge! They honestly were just ok, but for the price it cannot be beat. Now onto the beer. Out of the six beers I tried, my favorite two were the Cherry Heights along with the Bake Oven Black Lager. The Cherry Heights is a seasonal beer made for the cherry festival that was going on, and is a delicious Weissbeir that I greatly enjoyed. The Black Lager was also delicious, and a great German-style beer that you don't see very often. The other beer was also good, with another stand out being the Harvester IPA. I recommend stopping here if you're in the Gorge, or just driving through.

Jenn S.

Yelp
The husband and I joined my sister and her hubby at Freebridge for dinner and drinks last night and we were not disappointed! We managed to come in on a live music night and it was a perfect setting to eat, drink, and socialize with some of my favorite people. Drinks: My sister and I both got the villies weizenbock, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I ended up finishing hers because she didn't want to dump her precious liquid gold. The hubby and brother in law both had two rounds of the Harvester IPA. It was too bitter for my pallet, but the boys liked it. Food: Hubbs and I got the Cascade Lox and me, not being a huge salmon or pizza fan, had to fight the husband for the last piece. The other two had the PNW Pig pizza. I felt like there was much to be desired. It was pretty bland compared to the pizza heaven I had just consumed. I really can't recommend the Cascade Lox more! Atmosphere and service: We chose to eat in the tasting room because there was a chilly breeze outside. It was cozy and warm. The live acoustic music was amazing and the company couldn't be better. The servers were attentive and friendly and we have no complaints in that department. Overall, we say 4/5 because we dodged a bland bullet when we chose the Cascade Lox over the PNW Pig.

Chris S.

Yelp
Nice brewpub, though a little hard to find unless you are in the know. The brewpub is in the back of the brewery and although an OPEN sign appears on the outside, there is no sign indicating that the restaurant is at this location. Follow the signs to the "Tasting Room." They had a very nice selection of their own brews in a variety of different styles ranging from very hoppy to much softer varieties. My wife and I enjoyed the stout and a wheat beer and both were very nice. The food selection is limited and a bit eccentric, but very tasty. We enjoyed the smoked salmon pizza with capers and dressed with a bit of balsamic vinegar. All their pies are on a very thin crispy crust. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere. We were there on a Sunday evening and there was an acoustic bluegrass band playing to the delight of a small but enthusiastic crowd.

Amanda M.

Yelp
In town on business, opted for Freebridge based on Yelp reviews. Drank the Dirty Hazy IPA - overly sweet, no standout hop character, slightly weird flavor. Taste slightly improved with food. One star for the beer. Ate the Freebridge Pizza - in keeping with the IPA, the beer cheese sauce was sweet and tasted a little weird. Same for the crust. The other toppings were bland - don't often encounter bland sausage, perhaps too much competition with the sweetness of the dough and the cheese sauce. A few of the potato slices on the half i ate weren't cooked all the way through. Presentation of the pizza was nice but I'd rather have had a better tasting pizza. 0 stars for the pizza. The server was super friendly and responsive to requests. She gained Freebridge a star.

Dawn C.

Yelp
Recently ordered the "Date night package" along with 15 mile winery and The workshop and everything was great. We had the Freebridge pizza. It was hot and fast!! They were great!! Highly recommended!!!

Dawn G.

Yelp
Second visit here, one year between visits. Still a solid stop, but not one of our overall favorites either. Food was really good, beer just ok, service was great considering I feel they are slim on staff. The staff that is there does an excellent job, but it is obvious they are having trouble keeping up. We had the nachos this visit and the pretzels. The pretzels are a pretty small portion for the price, but very good! We will continue to visit on future trips!

Chris G.

Yelp
This place makes a five star Cuban sandwich. Very good pizzas as well. I don't drink, so the beer is lost on me. It has a funky vibe, and a great outdoor area. A good place to meet the locals.
