The Best New York City Hotels for Families

"Best for: Affordable roomsNeighborhood: Flatiron One of our favorite family-friendly hotels in New York is also one of the most affordable: Freehand is easy on the wallet and the eyes, thanks to its chic interior design courtesy of powerhouse firm Roman and Williams. Aside from a super convenient location in Flatiron (the subway is only a block away, and Madison Square Park is two), we love this hotel’s unique “high occupancy” rooms, which can fit three or four people in a combination of regular and bunk beds. The “quad,” with four twin beds in two bunks, is a dream for any kids on holiday. And when everyone needs a bit of a breather from a day of sightseeing, head to the rooftop between 4 to 6 p.m.; those hours are reserved for all-age parties, and there is a full selection of mocktails for the kids. Address: 23 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10010"

Broken Shaker Now in the Hands of Pebble Bar and Wildair Teams | Eater NY

"At the Freehand Hotel that sits at the border of Gramercy and Flatiron, I observed that Authentic Hospitality has an ongoing relationship—having first opened Smile to Go there and later managing its cocktail bar Bar Calico and the Georgia Room—and that Broken Shaker will operate at this location and at Freehand hotels around the country; Freehand Hotels and Broken Shaker were purchased by Generator and parent Queensgate Investments for $400 million in 2019." - Melissa McCart

The Best Affordable Hotels in New York City

"Neighborhood: Gramercy ParkPrice: From $195 per night There are few hotels in New York City whose interior design is as effortlessly cool and photogenic as that of The Freehand. But, considering it’s the work of famed design house Roman and Williams, it’s also no surprise. Apart from its good looks, however, there’s so much to love at this hotel. Rooftop bar Broken Shaker is one of the city’s premier rooftop watering holes, while on-site restaurant Comodo’s Latin American food proved to be one of the biggest hits of recent years. And similar to the hotel’s public spaces design, the rooms here also have a lot of whimsy. Guests can choose from petite spaces meant for just one person, lively Quad rooms with two bunk beds, or even suites with separate living rooms." - Juliet Izon
