Perfect relaxation spot. Awesome outside seating with great views of the marsh and river. The smells of the nature here can’t be beat. I tried the cider. Extremely refreshing. The building itself is charming and the staff is very friendly. Well worth the drive off the beaten path.

Google
I went here for a meet and greet and it was such a pretty spot with lots of seating and really nice views. I only talked to the bartender but he was really friendly! I ordered the Bianca pizza not long after I got there and after a while I asked about it, he was genuine and apologized, mentioned they had some newer staff working that night, and made sure it was taken care of. I didn’t really mind since I was having a good time socializing. The pizza was really good when it came and I loved that they had more than just plain cheese, there were a few veggie options which was refreshing since most places that get creative with pizzas tend to focus on meat. I didn’t try any of the drinks this time but I definitely want to next. The only little thing I noticed was the last step outside could use a light because it’s easy to miss in the dark. Overall I really liked it here, the space was so pretty, the food was good, and the bartender was kind. I’d definitely go back!

Google
I highly recommend this spot, the atmosphere is second to none. Huge lawn and deck on the breezy riverside, all organic ingredients and tons of fruity flavors as well as traditional recipes I highly recommend. A great place to stop in for a cold and bring your dog.

Google
Delicious beer, amazing view.. What's not to love! I will say if you go in the evening and you may want to bring some gnat spray. But that's everywhere this time of year.

Google
A great brewery in the Charleston area. They are just north of downtown and the views are incredible. They have a large covered area as well as plenty of outdoor space to hang out! Beer is fantastic and they have food on site as well. Dogs welcome outside and on their patio! They also have darts and a pool table and some games to play along with weekly events. Give them a try!

Coral B.

Google
Amazing staff, super friendly. The beer is really good as well. If you have never been trust the location. It is a neat little hideout. Have not tried the food but it looks good

Google
The Freehouse has a deceiving look on the outside, but the inside offers the feel of an old barn. It has a fabulous view and offers that backyard feel. They have something for every palette. The raspberry sour was my favorite. The had a food guy that was awesome, he will have you wanting to order another plate it was that good! The bartender was very knowledgeable and attentive. The owner/brewer was there and talked with patrons. The only drawback for me is it is not wheelchair accessible yet. The only way in is up steps and thankfully I have a strong husband to carry me in. They offer cornhole and darts inside. Definitely a place I will come back to when they get their ramp built or I'll just enjoy the view with the outdoor seating.

Google
I loved this place, the beer was amazing!!! They had some great sours. This is a small operation, only one bartender and only one unisex bathroom. The taproom was very spacious and they had a lot of outdoor space, off the beaten path, but well worth it!

Yelp
The view went well. Food is served Thursday-Sunday which is something to bear in mind. Really unique place and only place that even compares is holy city. More private place and while I don't want to publicize this cuz I want it all to myself, they do have a pool table. Huge place, the service I can only comment on one guy there who was awesome. Give this place a try if you've never been.

Yelp
SOMEWHAT DOG FRIENDLY - Used to be pet friendly on the patio, but now there is a sign saying no pets. However, pets are still welcome on the property around the patio. We usually enjoy sitting outside with a beer overlooking the Ashley River. It has a very relaxed vibe and a decent amount of land so people are not onto of each other. My only complaint is the gnats were really bad - I mean REALLY bad. They really need to spray or set up fans or something, because we were being swarmed like I have never seen before. We were bit allover so after finishing the one drink we left. Would have liked to stay longer though, but couldn't deal with it anymore. **My reviews are designed to give a clear picture of each spot's food and drink options, taste, atmosphere, pricing, and--most importantly--how pet-friendly it really is. I travel everywhere with my chocolate Labrador, Luna, who is the star of our adventures.Follow along on Instagram @pawimpressionsllc to see Luna's journeys and check out our website pawimpressionsllc.com for unique pet-inspired merchandise. Everything can be customized to feature your own pup, so you can carry a piece of your adventures wherever you go.

Yelp
Okay, I think I have a problem, this is like my 3rd review of FREEHOUSE! What I LOVE is that they are growing and expanding. They've opened another brewery in the upstate that is brewing different beers and you can get them here. Also, they are expanding the Charleston location. Every time I come, I see something new added to the outside area, and now it's obvious that they are expanding the inside as well. Today I had the Imperial Blaze pizza, light on the Calabrian pepper sauce, bc it can LIGHT YOU UP! And it's complimented with a hot honey drizzle! To balance the heat, I got a Cassidy Bridge (new) IPA. THIS WAS A FLAVOR EXPLOSION in my mouth!!! Kudos to the owner of Freehouse. They've got a GOOD THING BREWING!!
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
An ok place. Parking lot and entrance is a little strange. Service was very friendly. Plenty of seating and views of the marsh.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
One of the coolest brewery venues I've been to! Right on the marsh with beautiful views. Lots of outdoor space, picnic tables, and more. No food but BOYF. Lots of beers on tap and flights available. Friendly staff. Lots of parking. A fake railroad crossing on your way there. Overall this place is awesome and I definitely recommend coming here on a nice day to sit outside with views of the marsh. Good beer and good times.

Yelp
Really lovely riverside brewery - stopped by for a quick Sunday afternoon drink for our first visit and we were really pleasantly surprised at how great it was, yet relatively unknown. It's definitely off the beaten path, so be prepared for some bumpy industrial roads. The space is open with tons of seating inside and out. The kids loved the lawn, games and marsh access for fiddler crab hunting. Dig friendly and lots of great Adirondack chairs in the shade. The pizza was delicious and the drinks were good. Our bartender, Tom was really friendly and spent time telling us all about the drinks, giving small samples before we picked a rose hibiscus seltzer and a flight of beer, then a fun peach sour. We'll definitely be back!

Cari B.

Yelp
Freehouse is a great brewery set in a gorgeous spot. The beers are killer, the service is great, and the location is beautiful. They also have a punch card and you can get free beers!!!

Sharyll M.

Yelp
Delicious organic beer. Lovely setting along the Ashley River in North Charleston, SC.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!!!! Good food, good beer, good service, and an amazing view!!!!
google avatar

Briana T.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in North Charleston with a great view and even better beer! It's a little hidden, so if this is your first time coming and you feel like you're going to the wrong place- just keep going, you're in the right place. There's plenty of space for parking and they have tables outside, as well as porch seating and inside. It's open-door with no AC, but they do have plenty of fans. They have some yard games and hold trivia a few nights a month too! The beer is excellent, and the service is also great. They have punch cards to get a free beer for every 10 pints, so make sure to grab one when you order! They have a wide selection of beer from IPAs, blondes, sours, and dark beers. We ordered pizza for the first time and it was a little overpriced and it was fine. It's good in a pinch but wouldn't necessarily come here for the food.

Yelp
Wow freehouse has now become not only my favorite brewery but my favorite drink location in all of charleston! I don't know how i missed coming here earlier, but I guess I'll just have to make up the lost time with many visits! What takes the cake for freehouse is their magnificent location: it's close to everything yet has a very secluded feel-you wouldn't know you are just a few minutes from downtown! My favorite thing about them is the sitting area down by the marsh. It couldn't be more perfect and feels like quintessential low country. Their beer is also great and they have other drink options as well. They have a regular live music schedule, and the best part about their live music is if you don't want to listen to it, there's plenty of seating outside, on the deck, or down by the marsh so you can escape easily! I love this since sometimes you want to talk with friends and not listen to music. Freehouse takes the cake. Go try them out!

Carrie M.

Yelp
The beer was average... the low rating is partially because of that but also because of the bugs!! My fiancé and I came with our dog and she wasn't allowed on the deck area so we were stuck with all the gnats. We were completely swarmed and had to leave after chugging our 1 drink. I can't imagine coming in the summer months when the mosquitos are out. It would've been nice if our dog was allowed on the porch with us! Very nice view though!

Yelp
Freehouse brewery has some phenomenal organic beers!! My partner and i came a couple days before my birthday as a pre-celebration, and ive never really thought about having an organic beer, but its nice to have a healthier option! the person working the bar- Ms Sammy, was so considerate and knew just what beers to recommend depending on what flavor profiles my partner and i prefer. The wonderful customer service from Sammy and the beautiful view right outside made the drive from Moncks Corner very worth it. 10/10 will visit again thank you!!!

Yelp
I'm originally from the North Charleston area but since leaving ~5 years ago, a lot has changed. Some friends of ours recommended Freehouse to us on a recent visit home and it was awesome. They have a beautiful outdoor space (and a little bit of marsh-side seating which is truly perfect). Their indoor space looked nice and was open to the elements when we visited in September. Bathrooms were clean. I can't drink beer so I was hoping they'd have a seltzer on tap, but unfortunately they had just kicked the keg. That was pretty disappointing (hence the -1 star). I can't remember if they had wine but I don't think they did, so my only options were lemonade or water. These days I really expect a brewery to have at least one GF alcohol option available so I was a little disappointed they didn't have another seltzer ready to go, but not much I could do about it. They had some live music inside when we went which I thought was well-volumed, but we still enjoyed our outdoor seating better. Freehouse is definitely on our list of place to visit again, so hopefully next time they'll have some gluten free options!

David Q.

Yelp
We love this brewery. Amazing view, great beer, awesome owner. Friendly staff. Do NOT sleep on the wood fired wings. These are what dreams are made of. Pizza is also wood fired and organic!
google avatar

Shauna F.

Yelp
Such a fun spot! This was our first time and it was great. The staff are so sweet and very knowledgeable about the selection! We had two flights and one of their wood fired pizzas- we got the Umberto pepperoni and hot honey pizza and it was delicious! The view is so pretty and overall it is a really nice place to hang out whether you're with family or friends! They also have darts and pool which is a plus. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always enjoyed their beers, but I didn't realize how close Freehouse was to me. I always see them posting about food trucks and finally decided to head over because I really wanted to try Smash City Burgers (see other reviews... it's amazing). The place is cool and rustic inside but the outside is amazing. They have a big field with picnic tables and seating areas where you can overlook the river. It's a great area for dogs or kids to play or just enjoy the beautiful weather. It's big too so you can really spice apart to relax. This is absolutely not your standard brewery atmosphere and I love it.
google avatar

Argi K.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day and we had a great date! We loved that the bar has pool and darts. My beer was fantastic service was amazing! 10/10

Yelp
First of all, the staff is great , Maureen who is in charge of pouring the delicious organic brew is amazing and super friendly to all , humans and furry friends too. She is wonderful in helping select your fresh beer. The pizza is the best in Charleston hands down, I have been to all the places in town . There pizza maestro is Jonathan who is making some amazingly tasty pizza . The crust via incredible and his magical combination of ingredients makes the pizza fly thru the air with intense aromas coming out of his wood fire oven. What ever pizza you order it will be first class in all catagories . Mouthwatering and delicious. I can't rave enough about how delicious it is. You can't have a bad experience with Maureen and Jonathan . Great environment and they have a pool table and other game consoles too. I highly rec this place. Also amazing views of Charleston and surrounding areas. This place is amazing in the spring and summer too. Please stop by for great beer and pizza . You won't be disappointed. Tell them Jose sent you!

Yelp
Freehouse has a great big open area with some outdoor games and lovely views. They don't serve food, but they had a food truck on site, the Dizzy Lamb, which was delicious! Someone was playing music outside but you couldn't hear them due to the loud generator from the food truck. The beers were decent. My favorite drink ended up being the Agave Rose Seltzer. This would be a great place to hang out with a group.
google avatar

Rachyl D.

Yelp
Parking, live music, great beer, and an incredible view! Not much more you can ask for. My only issue, which seems to be common in all the reviews, is the bugs outside. I know you're outside on the water, there's going to be bugs. Definitely recommend bringing bug spray!
google avatar

Rick K.

Yelp
Very cool spot tucked away in a laneway so take it slow down Dorchester. But it's worth it! Cool set up indoors and out with a great selection of beers and an excellent menu (so no need to worry if there is a food truck or not). Smash burger was terrific.

Sean M.

Yelp
Was looking for a local-feel brewery with outdoor seating. This place has a great vibe, a nice view and most importantly the beer is good too! Currently sipping on a brown ale, which is smooth and well balanced. I also like the fact that they source organic ingredients. The service is friendly and quick. They do not have food during the week, but offer pizza on the weekend. Overall, a nice spot for beer, tucked away in an industrial park.
google avatar

Kira W.

Yelp
If you feel like you're in the middle of no where, you've made it! The signage is not good, but the gps takes you right to the brewery. Gorgeous view of the marsh. Arrived around 430, right before the crowd. It was definitely around 90 or more degrees outside, but there was a nice breeze that helped. Inside was much hotter, but tons of space inside. I tried all the seasonal sour and fruity beers. Sooo good! I've had their brown ale before and it was delicious! Chef Marcus from Middleton Made cooked pork and fried perch, with red rice and green beans. I feel all Charelstontonians ought to carry bug spray in your car, so get yours out or borrow some of theirs. Yes it's a marsh, there are mosquitoes! Again if you're lucky the breeze will help keep them away. Plenty of parking, servers where friendly, no food at this place, except food trucks. They need to have some corn hole games or horseshoes etc. didn't see anything there. There was music playing, good speakers, all kinds of genres mostly r&b and pop. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Took the family on a Friday Night when the 'Dough Boyz' Pizza Food truck was there. When driving in, we got the feeling like we were not in the right place at least 3 times; only to realize the oasis type location they have with a view of the river and bridge. Great for a picnic and sitting outside. All the beer is organic and delicious. The indoor seating space is very industrial, some drywall taken off the walls, some not. However, it seems tastefully done to make you feel like you're in an old cabin. There are board games to play and there were other kids and dogs. The space is good for watching the children play while you enjoy drinks and food. We will surely come back as this is a great location, views, drinks and (luckily) the closest to our house (ever since another one moved to West Ashley...)

Hunter L.

Yelp
Awesome brewery with a fantastic view! Looks sketchy driving in but then you get there and you're at a great brewery. Awesome views overlooking the river. Great drinks, amazing pizza, awesome service. Beware of the gnats, got eaten alive in January!
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Sort of thought I was taking my life in my hands driving here. It's hidden in a mostly-industrial neighborhood and doesn't have great signage. When I pulled up, I noticed a few cars parked on the far side of this building and so I followed suit. Then I had to look around for a sign for the door and, not finding one, decided to check over near the porch - bingo! Inside was equally unassuming. There's a small bar and a bunch of picnic tables inside. They had a few games going with people fresh off of their office jobs, so there was a friendly level of noise going on without bothering our conversations. The beer itself was impressive. I'm a sour fan and they had 3 delightfully tarty beers available, 2 of which I tried (I had tried the 3rd a few days before elsewhere). I'm interested to see how they evolve as they grow.
google avatar

Amanda E.

Yelp
The beer was average tasting and dogs aren't allowed inside. But the outdoor space is really cool and I think they have live music some days.
google avatar

Ashton M.

Yelp
Freehouse Brewery has a beautiful view of the Ashley River. Freehouse does great work with sour beers, and I am enjoying their current sour series.
google avatar

Rebecca A.

Yelp
This was stop number 3 for the day and there is not much to it. It's off the beaten path in North Chuck and does have a view of the water. There was a hotdog vendor out front and a very small bar and probably 6 picnic bench tables inside. We had told a couple at stop number 2 that we were heading here so they followed. Fun talking to them as hey just moved here two months ago from Baltimore. Brett was getting flights at each stop and I was just getting a sour beer if they had one. The beer here I got was called the pink squirt. I don't remember it very well so I definitely didn't love it!! This place seems totally chill and would probably be more happening on a night that they have live music.
google avatar

Shannon R.

Yelp
What a cool spot for having some drinks outside! The view from this brewery was truly unique as you could see down the river to the Ravenal Bridge! They also had a few seating areas around a fire for cooler evenings! They had flights available with a large selection of different types of beers to choose from! Lastly, all of their beers are made with organic ingredients!! I highly suggest stopping by for some beers outside!
google avatar

Yelp
What I loved most about Freehouse Brewery was the view, sit outside and soak in the tall trees and marshy views. They were also offering boiled peanuts during our visit, which was a hospitable touch. Aside from the view, the actual location is a little off the beaten path, cross the railroad tracks (follow the sign) and drive around the backside of the industrial looking buildings, to the right. The actual brewery is not much to look at either. A small bar area greets you immediately to the left upon entering the warehouse. A handful of bar seating, but plenty of additional tables inside, and lots of outside (covered and uncovered) seats. You won't find any "bar" activities or games here. What I found really odd about this brewery: they charge for a sample, which gives off the feel that they're really trying to cut corners and pinch pennies. "Tasters" (tiny samples) are anywhere from $2-$3 and you'll pay $5-$7 for a glass. I tasted the Double Door IPA and went with a glass of the Green Door Organic IPA. Both were solid, but the Green Door was something I would easily drink again. An awesome, well rounded IPA. Overall, the brewery has work to do to make the space more inviting. But, they have a great scenic view and offer a solid product. I think they're moving in the right direction.

Yelp
My husband and two friends and I were visiting from out of town for the SEWE event and had my 2 dogs, so needed dog friendly. we came to freehouse at 8:15pm. Beautiful establishment and looked very nice but when we approached the bar the dark red head lady and man behind the bar were having conversation with each other. I asked them if we can just sit anywhere? He said no we had to sit outside because of the dogs. Never was greeted, I felt like I was interrupting them. I asked about the menu and food and he explained like I should have known it already. I told him that we were visiting and he said I'll check on the food. Came back with, we're 10 minutes too late. For a pizza. We then went outside and sat down to look for another place to go because we did know feel welcomed at all. And still no one came to us. We ended up going to Tideland brewery and had a great overall, excellent experience. Moral of the rating, the people that were working this Friday night had poor hospitality. I would go to tideland over this place.

Yelp
I really enjoy every visit to Freehouse brewery. It sits right on the Ashley river and you can feel the laid-back atmosphere as soon as you walk into this brewery. My favorite brew is the Hoodoo Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. If you stop in, don't miss a chance to try a taste. Cheers!
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time last night to celebrate a friends birthday. It was a little sketchy to find the actual entrance but they have a great setup once you get there. Lots of outdoor seating which is shaded in the afternoon/evening with a view of the water. Inside has a lot of seating with a rustic vibe and a small bar. We were the only ones there on a Tuesday at 6 so it was great for us but Im surprised no one else was there. I heard they have food trucks some days. Beers were good.

A R.

Yelp
Their location smack dab on the Ashley River is spectacular. Big outdoor area. Modern but rustic and relaxed interior. Great selection of your standard beers, plus some unique creations. Has loads more local charm and character than the touristy downtown Charleston scene.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Love this venue! Be careful of the no-seeums however, as they are located on a bluff overlooking the Ashley River. Plenty of outdoor seating and parking on the property. Fair amount of indoor seating as well, but you should really go out for the view and breeze. Brews are very good and staff are friendly. The location is a little out of the way for me, but it's definitely worth it once you're there. If you live or work up this way, it's perfect, and I encourage you to frequent this location. Laid back lowcountry living at its finest. And some cool beers too. Enjoy!
google avatar

Carolyn H.

Yelp
And the winner for Best Charleston Brewery View...Freehouse Brewery! Truly, the view here is amazing. A beautiful quiet location, friendly and helpful staff to guide you to a beer you will enjoy. My favorite here is the Battery Brown Ale - 5.1% abv - A quaffable brown ale for all seasons. Malty, smooth, roasty ... Great place to meet friends, taste some amazing beers, learn about beer, watch beer be made and did I mention the view?

John S.

Yelp
Amazing location on the Ashley. Great beer and great owners. My new favorite brewery to chill at with good live music and food trucks
google avatar

Meg T.

Yelp
This brewery has some of the best views in the city. Right on the Ashley River, you can sit outside and watch the boats go by. I love this low key spot, and their fruity beers are some of the best around. They definitely do their own thing and have a great can distribution around the city. You're likely to see their IPA or Blonde at your favorite local restaurant. What to try: Pink Squirt saison or Kiwi Peche ale
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Definitely visit here for the location, as others have mentioned. But the beer is pretty good too! We stopped by Saturday afternoon and were welcomed to open mic time so there was a 3 man band playing, which was really cool. Then it progressed to another single guitar player who really did some great numbers. Wish I had paid attention. There was even a bigger act coming up later, but we had dinner plans. The interior is a little small, but enough for all to mingle and get a cold one. There is also ample room outside, including a deck and a covered area with picnic tables. But the beer, lots of great choices for you to check out. The Ashley Farmhouse was excellent, a dry Belgian ale with low IBU, so one you can drink and drink. Another favorite of mine was the Battery Brown ale, a darker, rich, yet smooth beer that was tasty. Then Folly's Pride is a golden ale with a mildly bitter citrus finish. We also tried a bourbon barrel aged stout, and that had some flavor. But it was one I had to could sip and enjoy. The service was very friendly and you can sample the selections before committing to your beer choice. Check them out, and sign up for their email updates, or follow on FB. They do have food trucks to help you enjoy the beer even more. Overall we were glad to finally stop by Freehouse brewery and enjoy their offerings. Would give them a big thumbs up and for us it's another Charleston brewery favorite.

Yelp
So it's a nice concept right? A brewery overlooking the river with nice local beer. I have no complaints about the beer. However, I only got to try one because we were absolutely overwhelmed by the gnats swarming the area. They're currently doing construction so while you can sit inside, it's loud and dusty where they're doing that. We also brought our dog so we had to stay outside. Also if you bring your dog, make sure to bring a friend to order for you because dogs aren't allowed anywhere inside and they have no outdoor ordering system. I could see how it may be nicer in the summer but not sure if the warm weather would help the bug problem. They could also stand to put up some speakers or something to add some decoration and entertainment value to the outdoor area but overall it was just rough. I hate to fault a brewery so much for the environment when the beer is good. But also, to a certain extent, a brewery should be a cool place to sit and drink your beer, rather than chug it and run back to the car so the gnats stop crawling all over you.

Yelp
Had such a great time at Freehouse tonight! They had a food truck and live music! Not to mention their staff is very attractive! Adorable cat, but don't pet, just enjoy! Great time. Will be back.

Yelp
In town overnight on business and googled Charleston area craft breweries. Freehouse popped up as a recommendation. The venue is no frills - although there's a nice view. "Crowd" on Tuesday night consisted of the brewmaster, the bartender, and three other patrons. That said, the beer is FANTASTIC! Great saisons and sours! And the brewmaster and bartender were super-chill. Taking a few bottles back home to the Charlotte area to share with my favorite bottle shop. Hopefully, we can get some distro in Charlotte.
google avatar

Brent L.

Yelp
We recently moved to Charleston and set out to try all of the breweries in the area to see which ones we like best. It seems that there are quite of few rustic ones in industrial areas and this is one of them. The view from the parking lot was a beautiful shot of the Ashley River so it was promising at the start. Once we walked in, we were greeted by the very hot and humid air of Charleston without air conditioning. They did have fans on so I thought it would be ok. Boy was I wrong. My great tasting cold IPA wasn't cold very long. My wife had their Brown ale that she said was pretty good but had the same issue. We originally gave our card for them to run a tab but had to bow out after one. I would suggest this place in a cooler season and it probably would be great.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
Daaaaaamn. Freehouse has stepped up their game since they opened. First time I went, it was alright, not mind-blowing, but good. In the last year, maybe year and a half, they have made their beers more consistent, creative and unique- all important when competing in the growing beer scene in Charleston. The tap room set-up is cool, it's authentic and down to earth. You're in the brewspace, it's not dumpy or stinky, nor is it overly shiny and screaming "we got someone to fund all of this for us right away!!" Well balanced. The outside area and views are really nice too. You can bring food in and have yerself a beer picnic! One of my fave breweries in town. Oh, the other thing that is great, is that the employees are all really friendly, passionate and knowledgeable about beer.
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Amazing local brews, great location and a laid back atmosphere. Caitlin rocks too! Definitely one of my new favorite spots!

Aubrey F.

Yelp
This place is almost perfect- the only two things that would enhance is some major major major bug spraying efforts (our family has been eaten alive here more than once) and a gluten free and or champagne and or a wine option. Just one would be amazing! Otherwise it's a wonderful, fun, unique place for good low country vibes and great beer
google avatar

Ken S.

Yelp
Great local organic beer, very nice selection. Location and views are spectacular. Small but just big enough. Think they were having some mechanical issues when we were there, but otherwise, very cool, and pet friendly.
