Great addition to the neighborhood and fills a much needed niche.
Saw the French Toast Bakery open up and immediately had a positive feeling about it. There are a lot of bakery options in Woodside, several Colombian, but it's nice to have some diversity. Figured this would be a good breakfast spot, and I was right.
I've been here twice, for breakfast, and can say it's solid. First time around, I had the French toast. Second time around I went with a grilled cheese. Both were great.
Let's talk about price. This is not going to be the cheapest place around, but it's actually perfect. To get something cheaper, you'd have to go to a fast food place -- Mcdonalds or Wendys. If you went to a diner or Martha's or IHOP (now IHOB?) you're for sure going to spend more than here. For ~$12 I got a French toast breakfast, which included eggs and bacon, and a latte. The portions were well generous and I left feeling full.
The staff is a little green, but I think they're learning. They don't work super fast, but they're nice -- which also has the downside of slowing things down a touch. The food they put out is great though.
When you're sitting down with your food, you'll notice that the sacrifices made are on silver -- there is none.
There are a couple of downsides though. They can't make a latte to save their life. It was bad. The only rubbish bins is beneath the counter of the condiments counter. It can only be accessed by those tiny holes you see at places that sell small food like Starbucks, etc. It can get messy trying to throw things out there. The place itself is elegant, but to the point of lacking in decor. The right side wall (along which people sit) is bare. No wallpaper, no art, nothing. Also behind you, you'll notice this creepy large television with all the security camera feeds. To make it creepier, the outside camera follows folks automatically.
All in all, I really love this place and I'm looking forward to coming back on the rare occasions I'm not enjoying a bunuelo at my local Colombian bakery. This seems like a great place to sit, relax, read, and enjoy some eats.
Odd note: They don't list French toast on their menu. It's available though. When I asked the guy why it wasn't listed, he said, "the person who made that doesn't know what they're doing." I almost died laughing.
