"When a colleague points her enthusiasm to a respected French-owned bakery, it’s bound to be a solid bet. Open since 2017, Frenchifornia imports flour from France to create traditional items like pain au chocolat, baguettes, macarons, palmiers, gateaus, and buttery madeleines. There’s really something for everyone, from chocolate muffins and a blackberry croissant to the spelt and quinoa croissant. If something a little heartier is required, opt for quiche, the smoked salmon eclair, or sandwiches with Comte cheese and ham, or simply build your own. The bakers here even venture into American sweets with chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate chip brownie. This is a full cafe that operates in daytime hours, so the coffee is strong with a choice of every kind of milk. In an annual practice, Frenchifornia also serves king cakes to celebrate the new year." - Eater Staff

I do have to say their drinks are small for the price of a large. Idk . But their pastiees are delicious, I think I had a chia croissants was very good. Expensive place for a quick bite but overall the owner and atmosphere are welcoming and friendly. And it has a nice clean french feel to it.

Google
In an area with so many bakeries to choose from this little shop on Colorado Blvd. stands out with a great selection of tasty european treats. I had the almond croissant and the raisin pastry and they were both amazing. The owner is obviously very proud of his shop and it shows.

Elaine Cheng

Google
Absolutely some of the best croissants in Pasadena! They’re just like the ones in France, super buttery. The service is wonderful too, everyone is friendly and their baguettes are also perfectly baked. No-frills establishment, they know their stuff 👌🏼

Therese Dandan

Google
So sad... came back today to get the delicious quiche and the chocolate croissant and saw this sign! So sorry to hear about this business closing! The pastries were delicious and we can tell the owners cared about their products and their customers! You will be missed!

Susanna SS

Google
Love this French bakery in Pasadena! They open early and the shelves are filled with a great selection of pastries by the time the doors open. The almond chocolate croissant and kouign amann are my favorites! The raspberry financier, brownies and croissants are also delish.

Google
Sad to give this review, we had high hopes! The pastries were not great. They were okay, but nothing memorable. Additionally, the pastries (almond croissants, and other pastries) did not taste fresh. We were there early on a busy Sunday morning, and the goods did not taste like they were baked today…shame. Muted flavor, and not fresh. Limited street parking out front on Colorado. Some parking near the police station east of the location, and north of Colorado. Service was fine. Coffee was bad. Very bad. The coffee was burnt and un-drinkable. We ordered a latte and the espresso was clearly burnt. We will not be back…

Google
Unassuming little cafe with excellent sandwich and pastry options. The gateau basque was fantastic with a dense but crumbly crust and lovely buttery cheesey filling. Just lightly sweet and so delicious.

Google
This place does a great job of being exactly what it’s trying to be—a lovely french bakery making a great version of all the standard pastries. If I were local I’d come here for breakfast regularly.

Katherine N.

Yelp
Noooooo!! They're permanently closed!! This was the only French bakery I absolutely loved!! They made everything right and Gaullaume and his team had great customer service!! I'll miss you guys and your baked goodies!! I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors!!

Nick N.

Yelp
we adored this place and are shocked at the abrupt closure. to the owner of frenchifornia contact me i have several storefronts on colorado. i want to help reopen. cheers to all the hard working entrepreneurs out there.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
The pistachio macarons were amazing and the quiches were pretty good too. My husband enjoyed everything here. They have metered parking out front. Just make sure the address is correct when you use yelp maps because I was redirected to the wrong address and had to call to get the correct location.

Yelp
We were in Pasadena to eat Dim Sum; the wait was about 45 minutes so we were combing the neighborhood to see what was close by. FrenchiFornia happened to be a couple doors away. We noticed it was a French bakery so we stopped in to see what pastry delights they were selling. They had a pretty good selection so it was hard to decide what to order. We had accumulated pastries from a Farmers Market in Culver City so we didn't want to over order and not be able to eat everything before the pastries would start to turn stale. We went with a Chocolate Chip cookie, grabbed the last Kouign Amann, Apple Turnover, Almond Croissant and a Pan Raisin. The chocolate chip cookie was more like the muffin top from a chocolate chip muffin. It didn't have the texture or taste of a cookie. It was a bit drier and perfect for eating with tea or a beverage. The Kouign Amann tasted more like a croissant and more bready. Both would be good with a beverage. The Pan Rasin was flakey and soft with a nice buttery taste. The Apple Turnover was equally as good with a nice not overly sweet apple filling in a good pastry. The almond croissant was flakey, good filling and flavorful without being too sweet. If we are in the neighborhood, there were several other pastries that looked tasty that we would try. Owner was nice, helpful and attentive.

Yelp
Headed here last minute to pick up some Birthday treats for grandpa for breakfast. Grateful they opened at 7:30 am for us early risers. V picked out the ham and cheese croissant, chocolate croissant and raspberry tart for the two of them. I read a fellow Yelpers review about the best macarons she had ever eaten and I figured why not. She's a hard grader so we ordered Earl Grey, Chocolate, Vanilla, Pistachio and.... Only tried the Earl Grey and I'll have to second-it's pretty damn good. Texture is spot on. The guy behind the counter was inviting and friendly. It's not doing Dine In but not the nicest part of Colorado or even a large enough space for it. Glad we went. Will be back.

Alex J.

Yelp
Overall I think this spot is good but nothing to rave about or make a trip specifically to. I was in the area and noticed I was close enough to walk by for lunch so I wanted to try it. There seems to be one cashier and one chef in the back. I only saw the cashier but she was super sweet and ran around handling orders as fast as she could. I ordered a ham & cheese baguette, croissant, and iced vanilla latte that came to $20 even. The croissant was okay. A bit over-baked as it was dried out and a little deflated but the flavor wasn't bad. The coffee was super watery, and had no vanilla flavor at all. The baguette was my favorite, although again nothing crazy. The bread is a bit dense and soft but the ends were crunchy. It's simple just like they make in France - ham, cheese, butter, bread. That's it. It's a good size and they fill the baguette so you definitely have a good size sandwich that tastes good.

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Bookmarked this bakery since I read about them and did not disappoint! :) It's a small shop but soooo much selection of pastries and desserts. Everything looked beautiful. I tried a butter croissant and a macaron. Texture of both were great. Takes me back to France. Staff was very nice and friendly.

Nevin A.

Yelp
FrenchFornia is a traditional French Patisserie that sells varieties of Eclair, macarons , canalé,  Gateau Basque, Baguette and more. The decor was nice and has European style. Everything looked very appetizing and delicious. I was planning to try many of their pastries. But I had a tiny problem! There was a customer just entered the bakery with us and  he placed his order first. So far there was no problem, right? This customer took everything on the display, and if I say everything I mean everything except a few pastries left! He said that he will have a party. We were standing still and shocked. No one even paid attention to us although we entered at the same time. We just waited until  he  left then we  chose from his leftover. We just tried the following; -Canalé: was the best I have ever tried. It is crispy and caramelized from outside,  moist and delicious from inside with adequate sweetness. -Gateau Basque:  was very indulgent. I will reorder this one. - The Chocolate Almond Croissant wasn't as expected. It was cake like structure, and not flaky. It was just okay& nothing special about it! -Chocolate Madeleine was just okay - Smoked salmon Éclair; it was salty. I don't think I will reorder it. I didn't get the chance to try their Macarons or any of the Éclair that I was planning to order, so next time I will try them and hopefully I won't see this customer again!

Yelp
I was looking for a new pastry place to try in Pasadena. I took the help of our dear friend Yelp. I found FrenchiFornia. Funny, when I dined at Lunasia two nights before, I saw this place and thought the business name was unique. I actually had a hard time pronouncing it LOL. I get it now... it's basically French in California, but shortened to be sassy. I arrived when it just barely opened. I was the only customer at the time which was great so I got to take lots of pictures. Of course, a few mins after my entry other customers started coming in... it never fails LOL. It was all good though. OMG... FrenchiFornia is just a lovely and romantically pink pastry shop. I love my pink! A touch of lavender would be nice, too. My two favorite colors! Upon entry, I was greeted by the staff. I asked if I can take pictures because it looked so lovely... they said yes of course. Afterwards, it took me a while to decide on which pastries to get. They all look so very good. My eyes became starry eyes when I saw the caneles. I never thought I would see them in the USA. The last time I ate a canele was at Granville Island Public Market in Vancouver, B.C. So excited! Here is what I got... 6 caneles - Good, but heavy crunch on the outside and dense on the inside. Not as great as the ones I ate in Vancouver IMHO. 3 apple turnovers - Fantastic! Huge turnover with great tasting apple filing. 1 almond chocolate croissant - I didn't eat this one, but it looked good. 1 gateau basque - Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this one. Flan was too dense for my taste. I'm used to the wiggly type of flan LOL. 5 macarons - raspberry, pistachio, salted butter caramel, chocolate, coffee were the chosen ones... just delish! Staff was very friendly and helpful. Prices were a tad high. Love the pink ambiance. I will be back for sure to check out the other pastries. So many to choose from and the shop is so pretty. I feel like I'm in love when I'm there. Shall we call them romantic pastries LOL. Go get your FrenchiFornia!

Christine A.

Yelp
I am such a fan of Frenchifornia. The comte and turkey sandwich is my go-to for savory, and the sweet pastries I always snag for dessert are on par with the pastries I used to get in Paris. You really can't go wrong no matter what you pick to eat! The owner is amazing as well; very attentive, patient, and kind. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for anyone coming in from a little further out, I know Pasadena can be a tough area to find parking at. However, the location of Frenchifornia is in a relatively quiet spot comparatively. You are likely able to find a spot within easy walking distance.

Darren C.

Yelp
FrenchiFornia on Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena offers a delightful French and Californian flavors. The selection of macarons and madeleines is a highlight, showcasing a tantalizing array of flavors that are both classic and inventive. Each bite is a symphony of taste and texture, from the crisp shell of the macarons to the soft, buttery goodness of the madeleines. This is a more of a grab snd go establishment. Parking is off-street. Which at times can be a challenge. The staff is attentive and passionate about their craft, adding to the overall experience. Who doesn't enjoy indulging in a sweet treat from FrenchiFornia. FrenchiFormia is sure to leave a lasting impression with its delectable offerings and warm atmosphere.

Eric A.

Yelp
This is without a doubt, my favorite brunch/lunch place. It's a perfect place to pull up for a quick meal and pastry. Without exaggeration, you can taste the quality in every bite. For those of you who have visited Paris and seen the care with which bread is made - this is a piece of that. My usual orders here are a sandwich (custom), an iced americano (black), and a pastry (different one each time). In a world where every coffee shop and sandwich shop is starting to feel and taste the same...this place cuts through the monotony. Give it a try.

Nadeen T.

Yelp
My wife and I woke up craving a fresh baguette with a European cappuccino and found a new favorite! Morning parking was easy, right in front. FrenchiFornia is small but very cozy. Everything we tried was delicious and satisfied our craving! The fresh baguette was crispy on the outside and beautifully spongy on the inside. Of course the cappuccinos with oat milk were perfect. I also loved the creamy, smoked salmon eclair which was delicate and yummy! What really got me hooked, is the almond croissant! The edges are crispy and crumbly and make you want for more!!! See you next week!

Jessica A.

Yelp
Stopped by to fulfill my ham and cheese croissant craving. Right when you walk in, the smell fresh baked pastries fills the air. If you've never tried kouign aman, I highly recommend it. Layers of beautiful flaky doughy similar to a croissant, except it's sweet thanks to some crystallized sugar. Service was great and the gentleman who helped me was clearly French himself. Easy street parking, but no dine in available.

Gillian A.

Yelp
Huge mistake for me to place my bakery haul in the passenger seat because I ended up eating most of it while being stuck in LA traffic lol D: (haul was supposed to last throughout most of the day). Silver lining though is that the pastries made being in heavy gridlock more bearable (telling you I don't live in LA without directly telling you I don't live in LA). --------------- Canelé: my favorite out of my haul (though I really enjoy canelés in general). Pretty good canelé here; nailed the interior sponginess with a strong vanilla taste. Financier almond cake: I love financiers too! Lol. This one was right on the money. Light, delicate cake with great flavor balance of almond and raspberry. Apple turnover: nice buttery crust but the filling tasted like standard apple pie filling. Smoked salmon eclair: smooth savory cream! Delicious salmon taste but the chives taste was kinda overpowering. Almond croissant: a bit too dry and bread-y for my liking. --------------- Overall some pastries were fantastic and some were just alright. Very friendly staff here (with lovely French accents!). A bakery worth checking out especially if you're already doing some shopping here in DT Pasadena.

Zoe T.

Yelp
Get the canelés here, you won't be disappointed! They are lightly crunchy/chewy on the outside with a delicious sweet custardy flavor--the only thing I could compare it to is kind of like bread pudding in terms of the taste, but the texture of canelés are really unique. The bakery always smells absolutely divine and buttery, and their other baked goods are also good but I definitely recommend the canelés the most!

Mary Ann M.

Yelp
I love this place so much ! Came by today to get some pastries. Sooo sad that they are already closed . I don't work in the area anymore but I always come by whenever I'm in Pasadena. I always miss all their goodies .

Angela C.

Yelp
Small authentic French bakery across from Paseo Colorado. The counters were filled with delectable looking pastries, so of course, me being pastry loving me, I bought almost one of everything. Everything was good and was how I expect pastries to be. Croissants were flaky, pain au chocolates had chocolate. Especially the chocolate almond croissant. They even have Kouign-Amann (my favorite, but hard to find). The baguette was great too, just put it in the over for a little bit to toast it before you eat it. For those who are vegan, they even have VEGAN options!!! The day I went they offered: Chia Croissants, Blackberry croissants, chocolate croissants, blueberry muffins, and chocolate muffins. The lady working the counter was so accommodating. When I asked what items had nuts in it, she packaged all the nut items separately from the others things and wrote "almonds!" on the box. So cute. I don't know what else to say, if you love French pastries, just go here and enjoy! Bon appetit!

Fanny S.

Yelp
I like that this bakery opens very early at 7:30, because it's rare to buy a wide variety of French pastry so early in Pasadena. And the taste is very good. My favorite is canele. When you get there don't miss it and come early. They sold out fast.

Cassie D.

Yelp
I was recommended by a friend who frequent this bakery a few times a month. I told him what I missed from my trips to France was the amazing croissants . I have tried various bakeries and most if not all left me with something more to desire. Well Frenchifornia smells like heaven when I walked in. I saw the texture of the flakes on the croissants and knew I would want try them. I got the plain and chocolate. The the crisp and flakiness crumbled as I took a bite. It had the perfect buttery taste. That bite took me back to memory lane of the time I sat outside the cafe enjoying my cappuccino and a flaky & buttery croissant in France. Will be coming back to try the Cinnamon Roll which I heard was to die for!!

Marcela L.

Yelp
Being dairy-free, whenever I see vegan options at a bakery I make sure I try them asap. Their croissants are tasty and filling. They change up their flavors seasonally, and their prices too.

Andreas K.

Yelp
TOO EXPENSIVE!! That's it! There is no justification, not even a French one, that a bakery item designed not to be shared should ever cost more than 8 or even 9$. Seriously?? And the cheapest item 5.65 (ironically more expensive than a half baguette. This is not a question of whether I can afford it or not but a question of principle and pride. Strongly recommend to go to other places! PREVIOUS REVIEW 4 stars for the food items, 2 stars for the business practice, equals a solid overall 3 star rating. Ok, the croissants are delicious, and so are several other items. I liked the crème-brulee cup cake (canele or similar name), but the gateau basque and the apple almond tart were too dry, and the almond croissant was too sweet. In terms of business practice, I highly disliked the fact that they charged extra for 2 boxes when I ordered about 6 items. Not that I could not afford it, but just out of principle, this is a bad because nontransparent approach to not make the customer aware of it. And I wonder what the not elaborated alternatives would have been in their opinion: put the items in my pants' back pockets???

Steven D.

Yelp
This French bakery makes a wonderful galette des rois for "Journée des Rois," celebrated January 6th (Day of the Three Kings, aka Epiphany or, in English tradition, Twelfth Night). Flaky on the outside, moist in the inside, with that mouth-watering almond flavor -- it's to die for. They hide "La Fève" -- the cute little trinket -- for you. Be lucky enough to find it in your slice and you're king or queen for the day! Order in advance. Comes in small and large sizes.

Delfin T.

Yelp
Been here twice now. And pastry is always fresh and delicious. Not too sweet... just like how we like them. The guy working behind the counter is always so friendly too. Our favorite is the PAIN SUISSE.... but seriously, everything is good.

Jimmy D.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Professional and fast. The place was clean and sanitary and feels very fresh cafeish. The pastry was pretty good. The only issue I have is the coffee... asked for a latte I got a basic coffee with vanilla creamer ... maybe just milk actually. Didn't look like a vanilla latte iced, more like an iced coffee with milk. Then proceeded to order a hot vanilla latte , again looked like home brewed coffee, didn't think much of it. We drank it and it tasted horrible. My iced coffee tasted like water, the hot coffee (mind you a latte) tasted like water too. Didn't want to make a scene so I quietly told the barista the coffee tasted like water and then was told there wasn't enough coffee added and poured iced cold coffee into my latte . Not that I'm an expert or anything but I don't believe that's how it should have been handled ? Sorry for the rant but I want everyone to know coffee is not coffee there. Go for the pastry , as I should have just done.

Belle C.

Yelp
Sooooooooo good! Best kings pie ever. We bought 2 large kings pies and finished within 2 days. Have to enjoy it or wait for another year.

Katie B.

Yelp
In the current sea of trendy light and airy croissants, this bakery has the more traditional dense and buttery version. Their pastries can look straight up deflated, even. But it's a unique shop for sure. The person serving up pastries had a thick French accent and reminded me (in a friendly way) that French people don't reheat their pastries. There are also some things that I wouldn't ordinarily see in a bakery (gateau basque for example). I'd certainly come back!

Peixin M.

Yelp
I'm basing this review solely off one visit and one item, which was the salmon quiche. the owner recommended it and heated it for me, but I found it soggy and smushy :( microwaved, maybe? please, help a girl out and recommended me a better quiche spot in Old Town Pasadena???

Dave H.

Yelp
Best place for a croissant or baguette when in Pasadena area. Super friendly owner that has a great selection of fresh baked savory and sweet French bakery items. Their croissants and sandwiches totally rock!

william c.

Yelp
Waste of time Went here for any type of gluten free pastries They had none and said they stopped making them What a waste of time NO GLUTEN FREE HERE

Mike M.

Yelp
Just walked 1/2 mile to get there, and this location is permanently closed. The building is empty.

S P.

Yelp
Business closed :((( One of my favorite French pastry places but sadly when I walked over to get my weekly croissant and coffee they had a posted sign that they have closed permanently after 7 years!! What gappenedI'm going to miss you guys!!!

Crystal X.

Yelp
Such a lovely patisserie in Pasadena! We stopped by Frenchifornia to grab a late breakfast and were pleasantly surprised with the pastry options. Tried their pain suisse, raisin and cream croissant, and ham and cheese croissant, which were all delicious. They also serve organic coffee, but my iced americano was quite watered down so I'd stick to their pastries. My favorite is the pain suisse, which has a butter croissant base with vanilla custard cream and chocolate chip. The raisin and cream croissant has just the right touch of sweetness without being overly sweet.

Todd J.

Yelp
Went back, Wanted to share with the office staff.. great croissants Along with baguettes..

Sarah J.

Yelp
I always walk by this shop so I finally decided to go in and give it a try. I got a chocolate croissant and it was delicious, very flaky and fresh. I definitely would love to come back and try a tart or baguette sandwich!

Ajaa P.

Yelp
I love their pastries. This time I got a QUICHE, the lady didn't mention anything about the price of a box. She put the quiche in the box and put it in the paper bag. When I got home I checked the receipt - I was charged for the box for $.48 and the paper bag for $.98. It's $1.5 adding to my bill without saying anything. I understand you need to charge for it but at least say something about it please...

Pedro P.

Yelp
Just like being in Paris. Delicious croissants and pastries. Service was excellent and very friendly. The only thing I would have liked to see is indoor seating. Highly recommend this place.

Sarah B.

Yelp
I'll miss you guys. Thanks for all the delicious pastries. You made this Canadian girl very happy these past few years. May life lead you to new adventures and much success.

Jenny C.

Yelp
The French bakery is a couple doors down from Lunasia (dim sum house). The shop is simple, small and in-door eating is still not welcome (yet). I was drawn in by the no-nonsense advertising. The signage got my attention. Once inside, I didn't get any whiff of fresh bread or butter aroma for that matter. But hey, who can turn away from any bakery! The selection is okay but I'm surprised by the amount of vegan friendly pastries. I have some friends that would appreciate the selection. I grabbed a classic butter croissant (my benchmark) and a madeleine for a total $8.50. They were both good but nothing really stands out. It's worth your support if you're in the area. The owner/cashier is nice.

Villate M.

Yelp
The service was wonderful and the pastries were amazing. I even made a trip back to get something else before I left Pasadena. The pain raisin was so delicious, and the canele was a revelation.

Christine W.

Yelp
Going later in the day, many items were already sold out. Everything I tasted was amazing. My favorite was the chocolate almond croissant. The ribbons of chocolate in the almond paste was perfect. This bakery reminded me of being in Paris.

Eunice I.

Yelp
Their customized desserts are the best. I love getting custom desserts here for my family for special occasions. The owners are French so you know that they bring their cultural expertise and sensibility to their desserts

A S.

Yelp
Excellent everything, including customer service, highly recommend the quiche! Not typically a fan of "pie" crust but the crust on the quiche could not be more perfect, not thick, doughy or heavy, it is delicious.

P G.

Yelp
Found Hair in the chocolate almond pastry that we bought home to try.. disappointing they need to better with hygiene

Kala Y.

Yelp
This place is so cute, and the pasties are so delicious. The owner makes all the pasties himself, he is very kind and nice to talk to. Love the chocolate almond croissant

Patrice L.

Yelp
Everything here is so fresh and SO tasty! The canelé is the best in town. The shop itself is clean and spacious for viewing the pastry cases. Excited to make this a regular stop!

Oussema H.

Yelp
Best spot in Pasadena for French pastries and sandwiches! Much visit if you're in Pasadena's

Angus L.

Yelp
My favorite is the ham and cheese baguette with butter. The various pastries made fresh daily are excellent. The staff are friendly and responsive.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Most amazing place ever! Owner is from France and makes the best pastries! great little shop, the coffee is STRONG but goes AMAZING with the treats!
