Frenchy’s Hideout should absolutely be your next must visit romantic date night spot. The food was divine and the owners, Paola and Michael, were just so warm, attentive, and passionate! The duck breast was cooked perfectly - crispy skin on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. The ratatouille will knock your socks off - I have never in all my life had a ratatouille this good (it’s Michael’s mother’s recipe!) Other stand outs were the elegant yet complex crudo, the flambé’d tableside crème brûlée and the ab-so-lutely perfect french onion soup. Really I have eaten at so many French spots around California and in my opinion this beats them all out, including notable Michelin restaurants. Did I mention the drinks? My foodie girlfriend commented that she hasn’t had a Sangria so tasty since her time in Europe. The wine pairing was certainly an adventure with each wine masterfully paired to each dish. The Margarita was also oh so excellent! Frenchy’s Hideout is such a lovely new addition to Hillcrest; we can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! The prix fixe is a great deal and you certainly get your money’s worth. They’re already getting busy soon after opening, so make sure to jump on the opportunity to try it before it becomes hard to get a reservation!

This is a MUST try for any time of day. We visited for happy hour and will be back next week for the wine dinner. The owner Michael is so hospitable and friendly and the food was absolutely perfect! I just returned from living in Europe for 5 years and this place is authentic! We had the escargot, pate, truffle fries, and the best ever French onion soup. Honestly all of it was fabulous with great portions and again the flavor flavor flavor 😊. Can’t wait to try the wine dinner next week and return with friends. This is fine dining with fun and amazing wine selection from all the regions of France 🇫🇷. They have live music too, see you there! Cheers!

Incredible from start to finish! We had the French Onion soup, delicious HOT and fresh truffles fries with REAL truffles from Spain, the duck pate with gorgeous accompaniment, escargot, and fresh baguette, We tried the happy hour rosé, and reds. Absolutely stunning. We are coming back next week for the winemaker dinner. The owner, Michael, is a gem and so hospitable with 5-star service too. We can’t wait to come back!

Frenchy’s Hideout is a gift to the neighborhood! From the perfectly balanced cocktails and clearly intentional wine selection, to the mouthwatering dishes and classy atmosphere, this place hits all the marks. Service was on point as well. Highly recommend the Thon Cru (Ahi Crudo) and Steak Frites - both notably crafted with great attention to detail. The peppercorn sauce on the steak is worth writing home - unrivaled here in San Diego I’d even dare to say. Love the sunset vibe on the patio. Great date spot, amazing happy hour, and furry friends are welcome too!! 🙏🏼♥️🙌🏼 10/10 ✨ Will definitely be back

Google
Excellent service and welcoming staff as others outlined but the food is so so. Escargot should be singing but missing flavor. Add salt, garlic a bit more love. The mussels had some beards but otherwise good. Not sure if ill come back. $20 a glass of wine is a bit steep...perhaps their happy hour draws in customers as I came later in the evening.

Google
Absolutely unreal experience. We did the 3-course meal and every dish was so good! Everything was flavorful, beautifully plated, and perfectly paced. The staff was incredibly attentive, delivering some of the best service we've had in ages. So thrilled this place opened up and will for sure will be coming back. *Wish I had more pictures to share for the main and dessert but everything was too good to not eat right away!

Amazing new French restaurant in Hillcrest! Our party of 4 made a reservation for 7:00pm on a Friday during their soft opening and we had a great time! **Please note that since we dined here during their soft opening, I can’t comment on how the prices and menu are now** Parking/Environment: As with any other Hillcrest establishments, be prepared to circle around for street parking. There were 2 circle tables out on the patio. The inside felt very cozy and romantic. About 5 chairs at the bar, a circle table that can fit 6, a couple of tables for 2. We were seated along the wall at a big table. There were 2 tables side to side and each could have fit 6-8. Where we were seated, we could see the chefs in the kitchen preparing the food which was cool to see. Service: Awesome service and hospitality by Shan, who happens to also be the general manager! He made our experience fun and explained the menu well. Our food came out fairly fast. Food: We opted for the 3-Course menu ($75) with wine pairing ($30). They gave some generous wine pours for each course and we left feeling good after dinner haha. Off menu items: -ESCARGOT and DUCK PATE for appetizers were delicious! Escargot came with 6 pieces and were delicious. Duck Pate was served with 4 pieces of bread and this honey mustard sauce that all tasted delicious together. -DUCK CONFIT: served with carrots and mashed potatoes. Crispy skin and great taste. From the regular menu: -FRENCH ONION SOUP: generous serving for appetizers! It was so delicious but I couldn’t finish it since I wanted to make room for the main course. Served with 2 slices of bread on top and amazing cheese pull. -BEEF BOURGUIGNON: there’s a reason why this is one of their signatures. The beef was so tender and it was delicious— would get this again. -CRÈME BRÛLÉE: served generously on an oval dish. Would get this again too! -For dessert, they had an option for “chef’s surprise.” One of us in the party ordered it but I honestly don’t remember tasting it. Overall: Our party really enjoyed this restaurant with its amazing food and great service. Make sure to ask for off menu items and make a reservation! Will definitely come back.

Yelp
We had the absolute pleasure of discovering Frenchy's Hideout, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Hands down, this has to be one of the best Happy Hours in all of San Diego -- thoughtfully crafted cocktails, a fantastic wine selection, and food that's not only delicious but generous in portion, especially for happy hour! Every bite and sip felt intentional, balancing quality with heart. What truly set this experience apart, however, was the personal touch. Michael, the owner, is an absolute gem. We were lucky enough to spend much of our visit chatting with him, and it transformed a great meal into a truly memorable evening. His passion is palpable -- after 32 years as a GM in other restaurants, he finally took the leap to pursue his lifelong dream of opening this charming French-inspired restaurant with his wife. That kind of dedication and heart is rare, and you can feel it in every detail of the restaurant (we ADORED the décor -- every tiny detail, from the choice of wine glasses and cutlery to the paint colors and overall ambiance, felt carefully considered, creating a space that's as inviting as it is stylish). Frenchy's Hideout is more than a place to eat -- it's a place to experience. If you're looking for warm hospitality, incredible food and drinks, and an atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home, look no further. You MUST try it -- you'll leave as smitten as we did! :) Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 9.5/10 Drinks: 9.5/10 Service: 10/10 Cost: 10/10

Yelp
~Food/Drinks~ I ordered the 3 Course Prix-Fixe Menu with the wine pairing and it was more than enough food and drinks. Some of us got a little tipsy just from the wines. I think this is a very good deal, especially if you want to try everything. And the portions don't look like they're smaller just because it's part of a set menu. First Course: I chose the Moules Marinières which were mussels in a white wine sauce. Super zesty and refreshing but I wish the flavors stuck more to the mussels. I liked that the bread just soaked everything up though. Also, they give free, fresh baguettes and it comes with garlic butter that's made in-house. So good! I also got to try the Soupe a l'onion Gratinée (French Onion Soup) and it was pretty good. Slightly sweet, very good with the melted cheese. Second Course: I chose the Beef Bourguignon and it was really good. The meat was tender but the sauce was a bit salty...super flavorful though. I also got to try the Steak Frites, which is a little extra if you're choosing it for the Prix-Fixe menu. Steak was super tender and had truffle shavings! Dessert: And finally, for dessert, I chose the Flambée Crème brulée -tableside. I was not expecting this large of a portion and it's torched at your table. That caramelized top was so fresh so every single bite had a nice crunch. ~Service~ Great service and very friendly staff. We briefly met either the owner or manager but he came out and asked us how our meal was and chatted for a bit. Also, since we did the wine pairing with our meal, we had a great server who really knew the wines and explained the way it pairs with each course. ~Atmosphere~ Very warm atmosphere, like the restaurant is small and cozy. At least when we dined in, it mostly seemed like all the others were regulars/locals. ~Logistics~ We made a reservation just to be safe but the place never completely filled up during dinner. I want to gatekeep this so bad so there's never a wait but I also want them to do well! The restaurant is located in Hillcrest so there aren't any big lots or easy parking. We had to circle around and find street parking a couple of blocks away. ~Conclusion~ I feel like it's rare to find a really good French restaurant in San Diego but I'm glad we have Frenchy's. The food is delicious, the staff were friendly, and they have happy hour too! Tues-Thurs from 2-6PM and Fri-Sun from 3-6PM. Need to come back and try their happy hour menu!

Yelp
Wow. Hands down the best French restaurant in the area. As soon as you walk in you are submerged with this Parisian bistro vibe. We came at 5:30 on a Thursday and wanted to check it out. They had an amazing happy hour with live acoustic guitar on the beautiful patio. We were hungry and tried one of each of their happy hour food choices. Mussels fresh and an amazing sauce, filet mignon burger wow I mean wow, onion soup the best I've ever had, duck pâté and escargot delicious and to top it off a side of truffle fries the owner said they use real black summer truffle from Spain not cheap truffle oil. They had a Sancerre at $10 glass and a sangria to die for. Perfect with the music :) The ambiance and service from the Owner were top notch. We will be back 100% to try their prix fixe for dinner and lunch paninis. This place is a gem for sure. An experience we won't forget. Thank you Frenchy's Hideout!!!

Yelp
Decided to try out Frenchy's Hideout, a newly opened intimate French restaurant, and very glad I did. The space is cozy without feeling cramped, and the vibe was relaxed, with live music that added to the atmosphere. The service was on point, and Michael, the owner, came out to personally check in on us, which was a great touch. You can tell there's care behind both the food and the hospitality. Now let's talk food...make sure to ask for BAGUETTE AND BUTTER! Baguette is baked in house and that butter is garlicky and salty. Great start to get your mouth watering. You'll taste it after your meal too :) Thon Cru (fresh tuna crudo) - Easily one of the best things I've had in a while. Super fresh, light, and full of flavor. I'd go back for this dish alone. Bouillabaisse - The saffron broth was delicate but rich, and the shellfish tasted fresh and well-prepared. Note to self for next time: bring bread. You're gonna want to sop up every drop of that broth. Lamb Shank - No knife needed. It was fall-apart tender and deeply flavorful. Shrimp and pesto risotto was tasty. Shrimp perfectly cooked on a bed of fresh pesto risotto. For dessert, we tried both the creme brulee, which was brulee'd tableside (a nice touch), and the wine-poached pears. Neither was overly sweet, which I appreciated--they both wrapped up the meal in a balanced, satisfying way. Will I be back? Definitely. Frenchy's is the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem now--but maybe not for long. Go check it out... just don't tell everyone. Welp! Onto the next!

Yelp
The food was absolutely delightful. We had the three course special. my wife choose Seabass it was very flavorful. I had the Beef Bourgugnon a real delight both of these meals we ended up taking a portion home and having it as a nice snack the next day The onion soup to die, for I'm picky about my onion soup. It had great consistency in a broth. The onions were not mushy and the cheese with the bread, thoroughly enjoyable. This little piggy love the desert. Luckily my wife really doesn't eat desserts so I brought hers home. The service friendly conversational they were always available. They work well together as a team. The general manager knows what he's doing. The ambience the colors were perfect. The tables I felt like I was in Paris. Very nice decor. Make your reservations now.

Yelp
Frenchy's Hideout has replaced a long standing creperie in the Hillcrest neighborhood. The moniker was in honor of the owner's nickname. I believe the business is still in a soft opening phase until later this month. A small front patio consisting of two large round tables complemented the inside dining area which can hold about 50 customers. The decor was redone with darker tones to reflect a French wine bistro. There were two menus offered, a prefixed three-course set for $75 per person and an a la carte version featuring starters, mains, and desserts. I went with the latter and selected the Soupe a L'Onion Gratinée to begin my meal. This was a traditional French onion soup covered with melted comte cheese. It was supposed to come with a baguette, but one wasn't provided with my serving. The broth was steaming hot because of the cheese cover. It was flavorful but pricey at $18. The Magret de Canard was my entrée. This was two pieces of duck breast served on a cherry rocher sauce with roasted celery root purée, sautéed green beans, and carrots. The sauce was outstanding with its sweetness that paired beautifully with the duck breast. The bonus was the two black cherries. I do wish there was more celery root purée as a couple of smears were insufficient. The meat itself was cooked just right although the ends were oversalted while the middle was fine. The service from the waiter was terrific. He was able to address all of my questions about the menu and the business in general. After the full grand opening occurs, the a la carte offerings should expand. The current list had three starters, five mains, and two desserts. Interestingly, chicken was not one of the choices as a main which I am sure will be rectified. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and gave four stars for my visit to Frenchy's Hideout.

Yelp
This is such a neighborhood gem! The service was awesome and the owners were so sweet, engaged and attentive. We loved chatting with them and they were so kind to my pup. The food was excellent We enjoyed literally every last bite. We shared an app, 3 mains and a dessert (3 people). Loved it all and we were full! They also had a wonderful drink / wine list. We started with cocktails then moved to a bottle of wine and all were excellent.

Yelp
We came across this place as part of The Taste of Hillcrest and came back for their Happy Hour. That day the Happy Hour food was truffle fries Moules mariniere and sliders. The inside is beautifully decorated, but compact . We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking to the owner Michael and the GM Shaun who were welcoming and very personable. We shall be back to try it for dinner.

Yelp
This place is a gem! They opened this year and have already made their mark. I am constant visitor (don't live nearby) but I always make a point to stop by, even for a glass of champagne (the real stuff). The owner Michael is always attentive and enthusiastic which helps when you're party of 1. All the food I've tried has been very good and I highly recommend the French onion soup (sadly, I didn't take a pic) and the tuna crudo. Also, they have caviar bumps so if you've never had caviar, are scared, or want to see what it's like, get one here. The place is small but packs a lot of personality. The decor is intimate, good for a date, a special occasion or when you need some good food and wine. They also have prix fixe wine dinners (haven't been yet). My pictures are from my various visits. This place is across the street from MO's FYI (in case you're familiar with the area).

Yelp
When your foodie friend with a French place quirk recommends a place quietly to other friends....naturally, as a fully developed adult, you GO. IMMEDIATELY. Snagged a reservation for 1830 same day which surprised us. Greeted by the absolute sweetest server, ever, and sat down at a great window seat in the corner with a view of the patio, and the entire restaurant. Immediately noted the Parisian sidewalk Cafe mood with a touch of "we speak Michelin here". Our server was on us almost immediately to get us settled in and start some drinks. Being prime time it was starting to fill up, and I noted that the team of two attending us had the entire restaurant as well. It's a small place but impressive nonetheless how efficiently and congenially they navigated each table. Shan and Andrew were consummate pros, and by the sharp, encyclopedic manner in which Shan presented the menu and consultative wine pairings, we knew something special was happening. Turns out he's the manager and was filling in for his team. Man...am I glad he did and Andrew was lock step with him keeping everyone in the place happy. The bread and butter service was phenomenal, so much so that my wife asked for a take home portion. Course meal was excellent, French onion soup was amazing and so well balanced, a little sodium heavy on my main (beef) but absolutely delicious, and the creme brulee was insanely good. Overall we had an amazing time, were treated as well as anyone could expect to be treated and then some, and left full, happy, and anticipating a Near future return. Shan and company...cannot thank you enough for the fabulous meal and for making a simple "extra butter" request a topic worthy of mentioning for years to come. See you guys soon.

Go support our friend and his new beautiful spot! The food is sensational and the drinks are amazing! The steak and fritz was our fav! Support this NYC / BK based artist and let him feed your mind, belly and soul! Thank you Frenchy!!!!

Yelp
The French onion soup. Wow. We live close by and love that they have an outdoor patio right on university. The wines are phenomenal. The soup was amazing and we also tried the beet salad. Looking forward to trying everything else. The ambience here is one of a kind. And on top of it, the service was phenomenal.

Yelp
We tried Frenchy's Hideout in Hillcrest yesterday. They have a delicious and unique Happy Hour! It isn't the usual bar food and the setting feels just like a Parisian restaurant and the owner, Michael, couldn't be more of a gem. We had the paté, French onion soup, fresh baguette, escargot and the truffle fries with real Spanish truffles on top! Someone next to us got these gigantic filet mignon burgers that looked absolutely delicious too. The burgers are GIANT. We also enjoyed the happy hour rosé and red wines which were very good. The quality and service were excellent and it was nice doing something different for happy hour. We liked it so much that we decided to come back next week for their winemakers dinner. Oh and live music on Thursdays! Fenchy's Hideout: 142 University Ave, Suite D.

Yelp
Frenchy's Hideout is a new restaurant in Hillcrest. They are in their soft opening phase. We went last night and they'd only been opened for one week so it was a soft opening. The place is relatively small with a few tables and a small bar. The decor is best described as rustic modern. The seating was very tight like you'd find in a Manhattan restaurant but not as tight as a Parisian restaurant. We arrived right on time for our reservation and were seated promptly. The menu was limited but all French classics. All of our dishes were expertly prepared and very tasty. The tuna crudo was a standout. Would certainly return to Frenchy's Hideout. Hopefully the menu will expand as they move to a hard opening.

Nicholas S.

Yelp
We were so excited about a new French restaurant in Hillcrest... The aesthetic was nice, the service was fantastic, the French onion soup tasted like spoon fulls of salt. I feel like if you are going to have a French restaurant there is one thing you really need to get right, and the soup was a huge disappointment. To be fair, we didn't try any other food, we went for a soup and a beer. The rest of the menu might be great.

Yelp
A welcome addition to the Hillcrest neighborhood with nothing even remotely similar to compete. Every detail, from the ambiance to the food to the service, brings the owner's (Michael) vision for this gem to life. The flavor profile of each dish was spot on and when put together, I haven't enjoyed a meal of this quality in a LONG time. The steak frites is a new favorite: a perfectly cooked filet, a generous number of mushrooms, and a sauce that brought it all together with a teeny kick at the end from the peppercorns -- top notch quality. The beet salad with crushed pistachios and goat cheese mousse surprised me with its balance of sweet and savory -- not a crumb was left! And the creme brulee flambeed table side tasted like my Gran had made it (one of her specialties!). The sangria was wonderful, the "surprise me' mocktail got a repeat order, and the wine list includes some exceptional choices you don't see often (Caymus). Shan is the general manager and he guided us through both the menu and our overall visit. With happy hour from 3-5 PM including Fri and Sat, you'll see me there again and soon! Welcome to the neighborhood!

Yelp
It was my first time there, and it was fabulous. I can't say enough about how good the food was My friend and I shared several things, including the duck breast I have no complaints about the food or service. I believe there was someone smoking out back and it kept coming through the front of the house. Just annoying if you have a sensitive nose.. 5 otherwise

Yelp
We arrived to the Resturant and we were seated quickly. The staff were very nice and we got water and drinks right away. They had a prefix menu this evening. All questions were answered then we ordered our food. I had the French onion soup and it was the best I have ever tasted. After that the Filet Mignon was perfect. I normally don't order something I can cook well at home. I have to say it was so flavorful and tender. I was able to try the duck breast and that was so rich with the glaze I will have that next time we eat here. I ordered the macaroons. They LOOKED great.... But I was having so much fun I didn't get to try a bite after I passed them to everyone to taste. Haha. The entire night was just wonderful. From the staff, the place itself is beautiful and the meal... exquisite. This place is so romantic. If your looking to make it a special night then you must come here

Yelp
A New Favorite - can't wait to return! I decided to walk in and have dinner by myself at Frenchy's Hideout. This place looks amazing and has a nice French restaurant ambiance. The menu is very creative with many flavors. I tried the steak au poivre and it was cooked to perfection and the sauce was perfect. The mushrooms were such a great touch! So tender and filled with flavor. They had a good wine selection and got a nice glass of French Côtes du Rhône to go with my red meat. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Michael and we had a great talk about the opening and success of the restaurant. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for unique dinner creations and pleasant atmosphere. Come alone or with a small group of friends and enjoy dinner! Bon appétit!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my birthday and it ended up being one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in a long time. We did the prix fixe menu with the wine pairing, and every single course was beautifully thought out and absolutely delicious. This was my first time dining here and it did not disappoint. The steak frites were a standout. They were perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavor. But the real surprise for me was the beet salad. I'm not usually a fan of beets, but this salad was not a typical beet salad. It was so fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The second the meal was over, I was already thinking about wanting to bring more friends and family to eat here. What really made the night even more special was the atmosphere. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, from the host to the servers. You can tell the team here truly cares about the guest experience. If you're looking for a place with incredible food, impeccable service, and an intimate vibe, this is a must-try!

Yelp
New, warm, friendly, , non pretentious French Bistro In Hillcrest! We started with the Tuna Crudo which was excellent. Second, we shared the beet salad which was prepared nicely with a peach balsamic Demi glaze. The Fish was delicious. It's paired with a delicious Risotto and the tastes compliment eachother very well. The second dish we tried was the Beef bourguignon. The owner brought us extra sauce and this made the dish even better. The Owner, Michael, is a Som 3 and knows his wines. He paired everything fantastically! Glad this is

Yelp
The food was delicious and I recommend the three course meal with the duck. Took my husband here for his birthday and it was the best service with the best food in Hillcrest.

Yelp
This place is the BOMB!!! The food, service, and the ambience are incredible. And of course the wine. We got there a bit early so we started at the bar -- I am still thinking about the delicious white wine we had (Sauvignon, I'm pretty sure.) Then we moved to the table, which by the way was lovely, the table itself was made of this gorgeous wood, and it was set up beautifully. We split a super charming beat salad with crunchy caramelized pistachio dust and some delicious cream. Yum. I had the bouillabaisse, which was perfectly cooked, the seafood was tender and the broth was delicious and of course had some bread with that and yes, more wine. We couldn't help ourselves and closed the meal with a crème brûlée (the couple sitting next to us was eating it, and we watched the server caramelize the sugar, so we had to have it.) Highly recommend this spot. It's a classy place. Will definitely back to try the rest of the menu (and of course, the wine).

Yelp
If you love great wine go to Frechy's hideout. What a lovely experience. I had the muscles which were fabulous! I went all out and had a white a red and a glass of champagne and the creme brulee. Service and ambiance were impeccable. I am sure to return!

Yelp
From the moment we walked in to this beautiful hip Parisian restaurant we felt welcome! We were a party of 5 so we ordered everything from the escargot, crudo and French onion soup to the duck breast with cherry orange sauce , the beef bourgenon, and the steak frittes! Everything was outstanding! The desserts were poached pear red wine deglaze and the crème brûlée was flamed at the table. The couple who own Frenchy's Hideout are darling and made our 2 birthdays so special! We will be back!!!!!

Yelp
I tried happy hour on a Wednesday. Everything was so delicious and gorgeously presented! Service was top notch and I loved the decor and ambience. Extremely cozy, beautiful little spot. I'll definitely be back for dinner with wine pairings

Yelp
Cute, cozy place with decent food and a good happy hour. Beware that the listed menu prices are not the true price. This restaurant adds a 3.95% surcharge to your bill. Instead of adding a 3.95% surcharge to the bill, it would be more ethical for the restaurant to adjust its menu prices accordingly so customers can see the cost of a menu item up front.

Yelp
My husband was trying to convince me to come out mid week and showed me pictures of the food here. I was sold! We sat at the bar talked with the owners a bunch, got a great recommendation for a bottle of French wine, got the French onion soup that they are now popular for and it's so rich and tasty. We both got the specials of that day and loved them. Thanks frenchy for coming to our neighborhood! We r excited to come to some of your wine nights!

Yelp
this place was amazing from start to finish. The French onion soup is hands-down the best I've ever had. The beef bourguignon had so much flavor and melted in your mouth. From the bread to the drinks to the crème brûlée everything was just top-notch. The owners were incredibly kind and went out of their way to make sure we have the best experience. The general manager was our waiter and was incredible. We would highly recommend this wonderful place.

Yelp
This new bistro is lovely! Created with a lot of heart and it shows. The beet salad, crudo appetizer, and ratatouille were perfect with a glass of French red. Dimly lit with fresh flowers and great service, Frenchy's is it!

Yelp
My husband and I were looking for a restaurant with great food and ambience to take our friend out for his birthday. This place is amazing. Everyone loved their food. The steak and duck had a wonderful flavor. We were all impressed that the restaurant had a sommelier on the premises. Very nice restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I see why the owner named this the Hideout, when you first walk in it's beautiful. The owner did a fabulous job with all the decor. We went just to try a drink and appetizer and ended up with 6 different apps and 3 different drinks. The food well exceeded all my expectations. I left with a future reservation. Everyone go try this little GEM as you won't be dissatisfied

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I've been to. The staff including the owners are genuinely nice. The menu is relatively small and appealing which is usually a sign of a top notch restaurant. The wine selection is fantastic and the wine recommendations were all on point. The best part however is the food, the short rib dish was perfect, the muscles were amazing and perfectly cooked, the duck was full of flavor and tasty, and the deserts were fantastic. It's worth the price. We will certainly be back there.

Yelp
Absolutely loved it, had a wonderful experience here. The atmosphere is sweet and romantic without being stuffy. The service was not only prompt but passionate as well - I could really tell the staff care deeply for the food and wine selection. And speaking of the food, it was such a treat. My wife and I shared the beet salad, ratatouille and the highlight of the night which was an incredibly tasty beef bourguignon. Finished with espresso martinis and a very nice dessert wine (we didn't order an actual dessert but I saw some coming out and we couldn't help staring).

Yelp
We just came for little happy hour glass of wine and were so impressed with the wines that they served us, the sunny outdoor patio that is dog friendly, the service was amazing, and the menu looks fabulous. They have paid attention to every little detail with all the decor as well, so it has great ambience. We are very excited to have this new business in our neighborhood.

Yelp
The food was delicious and everything was perfect. Service was great and the ambiance was wonderful. We will be back again.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous evening at Fenchy's Hideaway. It's a small restaurant in Hillcrest that truly punches well above its weight. The beef bourguignon and steak frites were outstanding along with some outstanding wines. What makes this place truly standout, besides the divine cuisine, is the staff who are just lovely. Come and support this great neighborhood gem.

Yelp
Beautiful small restaurant, food and wines are amazing, the care of the waitstaff! Date night material, friends meeting for an intimate dinner. This THE place. Alone? Don't let that stop you..treat yourself!

Yelp
Had a terrible experience here tonight. Food mediocre and way overpriced. $150 for a poor 3 course meal with poor wine parings. Owner was defensive instead of trying to correct the situation.

Yelp
LOVED it! Ambiance, service, and food were all amazing. The beet salad was so unique and flavorful. The ratatouille was excellent and comes with a side of couscous. It's the owners mothers recipe. Will be returning!

Yelp
Went to the restaurant first time. Both food quality and service were disappointment. My daughter's order were messed up so she got her entree before the appetizer. I ordered the onion soup and it is not the traditional style, not enough melted cheese and the soup is so thick that it appeared the chef added too much corn starch. The thinkness texture did not resemble it has been concentrated. My wife's bouillabaisse was not good either, portion was small, the soup base is bland and lukewarm. To make it worse, one of the mussel is rotten. Very disappointed consider it got almost 5 stars on Yelp. Will not return.

Yelp
As a local business owner here in Hillcrest, I love it when new places open up with enthusiastic owners trying to make a beautiful scene again here in Hillcrest. This is an upscale wining and dining experience and one that was much needed in Hillcrest. The owner - I heard - was once the manager of the famous Croce's downtown, And also invites musicians to come and play at the happy hour. Speaking of the happy hour, what a great little place to enjoy super deals on wine and also great bites for a reasonable price. I have not yet been for dinner, but it came highly recommended. I read through some of these reviews and love how busy they have become. When places are brand new, We always need to give some flexibility as the owners adjust to everything - including when rush times are - and so I hope everybody just reads the positive reviews so they know why to come and support a beautiful new business in Hillcrest!! The owner Michael was very personable and I wish them well as neighbors!! Once all the condos open up, I'm sure you will need to reserve way in advance. No need to go to La Jolla for your elegant table, just check out Frenchy's Hideout!

Yelp
Awesome dinner! It's a lovely (small) room and a lovely (small) classic French bistro menu. My group of 4 got a good cross section of the offerings (duck, bouillabaisse, ratatouille!) and the forks were flying as everyone wanted to try it all. Not a dud in the bunch. But the real coup de grace was the host, Michel, who was a consummate guide for our evening. His advice was as impeccable as his service and just made the whole thing special. Chapeau!

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night at 8pm and restaurant was empty. Seemed very disorganized and food and flatware on floors under tables. Took some time to get greeted after sat at a dirty table. Ordered red wine by the glass and was served two 85+ degree glasses of wine. When we told the server they poured it over ice and then strained it back into the glass (which you NEVER DO!). No apology or anything. Then ordered the Escargot and it came stone cold butter not even melted and we asked if bread was served with it and they said oh yes yes. They took the escargot back to remake it and then it came back out now prepared at right temperature and without the bread again. Bread arrived when almost finished and then got hit with an $8 charge for it - owner claimed is best baguette and is one of the worst I have had. Then the owner came over and offered more wine and tried to make up for the issues after diluting our wine. For two appetizers and two glasses of wine it took 90+ minutes and service was very inattentive as stilts dishes remained on the table. Was the food good? Not really! Well managed? Not at all. Was it busy? No only two other tables. Was it priced ok? No it is overpriced! For two apps and two glasses of wine was $100 I would not try it as there are way better French restaurants in San Diego like Le Bonne Table that are priced much better and where the food is outstanding! Don't try Frenchys!

Yelp
Food menu was built from scratch and every item on it made you rethink your decision. Set menu gave you a little taste of the chefs favorite course. Service was spectacular and you could tell the owner put his heart into.
