Google
I am originally from Lafayette where there is another Fresh Pickin’s so I am comparing the two. The BR location is ok and has most of what you’re looking for but I didn’t find there was as much as Lafayette store. It also wasn’t laid out as inviting and seemed light on stock. The people at the checkout wasn’t as nice and helpful either. I do think the pricing is fair. I wish they also offered organic fruit both frozen and fresh. I also wish they’d carry Evangeline maid bread like they do in Lafayette.

Wonderful selection of produce that are in season & some locally acquired.

Google
Not much of a choice. Bought peaches, were very grainy, nectarines hard and tasteless, cantaloupe also a bummer. Fruit was not like fresh picked. Place has declined over the years and continues to decline. Wish I had taken pictures of the peaches and nectarines threw out to trash for Monday pickup purchased on Saturday. A waste of my money.

Google
The Raw milk is so good , I have a dairy issue with my stomach, but when I get the raw milk from there it’s so good taste like the real stuff from when I was a kid!!!

Google
Nice variety of fruits and veggies. I love their frozen purple hull peas.

Great location for fresh produce

Google
I'm not sure what all a produce stand is supposed to have and I know they're limited by the seasons. It just seemed like there should have been a wider variety but that's probably just my ignorance talking. They did have dragon fruit though. That was awesome. As far as quality, everything looked great! Definitely better than Walmart, Rouses etc. Better prices than big chain stores also. The cashier was pleasant too. Todays visit will not be my last.

Google

Yelp
I love a fresh fruit and vegetable stand, and Fresh Pickin's is the place. Everything is fresh, and the prices are so much better than the stores. The frozen section is wonderful and always full of useful items. There's usually fresh butter and eggs too. They carry a lot of local items and have delicious spices and sauces and all. The staff is friendly and helped me with my bags when my arm was messed up. They keep everything very clean as well. I always enjoy my shopping experience!

Yelp
Always the best variety of fruits and vegetables. Not only that, they really are friendly and so helpful. You'll find so much you want but don't need. Some really good local options for honey, sauces, jam, syrup and so much more. If you're like me and you're tired of eating fruit with no flavor give them a try.

Yelp
Great variety of fruits, vegetables, and other items. Since this is an indoor/outdoor place I would visit in cooler weather. It was HOT!! They had fans on but this Louisiana heat ain't no joke! I would definitely return. Lots of local Louisiana products. I tried some cold cut up watermelon that wasn't the sweetest but was pretty good. I also got several Big Easy Kombucha teas. They had 2 or 3 flavors. I will definitely return.

Yelp
I dropped by a few Saturdays ago. It has been since before the pandemic I last shopped here----when I went a few Saturdays ago I was impressed----good or bad I think the pandemic resulted in this place speeding out it's offerings just a little bit and everything was nice and neat. Most of the i team are fresh and of the vegetable variety but there are also some refrigerators/freezers but n the back with frozen offerings of meat and vegetables from local/Louisiana vendors and which adds to the Fresh Pickens offerings. Also, please note that this place has a sign near the road and they update constantly what specials /new product they have and want to sell---this is a great place and I have decided my 4 star rating will become a 5 star---places like this are needed in Baton Rouge!

Yelp
Are you obsessed with farm-like produce stands? Do you want to feel like you're shopping for produce like it was freshly picked? Well, if you are, you'll definitely love this produce stand! This is as close to an open-air fruit stand that you can get. There are no doors, just an entryway. So, grab a cart and start collecting the produce you need. They do have a frozen foods section that has fruits and vegetables + a refrigerated section that has some local dairy products as well. The customer service there is always great and I always find things I need to to make my home meals extra fabulous + find some local products, too. It's easy to access from Coursey & Airline. Parking is always plentiful and I always walk out with something extra that I did not plan on buying.

Yelp
I'm glad I found this place! I don't want to buy my produce from anywhere else. The store is so quiet, neatly kept and gave off a family environment vibe. The workers that I came in contact with were happy to help and it boosted my experience. The prices are a little high, but it's to be expected for such good quality products. It seems that they really stick to only putting out the fruits and veggies that are in season. The frozen section was nice and needed!

Yelp
I'm usually not disappointed here, but I shopped here a couple of days ago & bought quite a few items. To my surprise, the very next day the strawberries had mold on them, the homegrown cucumbers had mold & soft, the homegrown tomatoes were getting rotten by the stem part & most of the apples were brown inside. I don't live in Baton Rouge, just happened to have other stuff to do so returning items were not an option. I live too far, especially with the gas prices now. So in the garbage everything went.

Yelp
Great selection of fresh vegetables and local honeys etc..it's a tad hot inside with Temps over 100 degrees outside but that's to be expected..great place

Yelp
This was the 2nd Vegetable stand I have visited since I have been out here and I was really happy to find this one. It was way more than I expected, after the let down from the first place. There were so many different things to purchase. From cheese, to veggies, to drinks, and sauces...oh my. I only stopped in to check it out for my family and was in the middle of a bunch of errands, so I could only get a couple items...but they were great. Prices were not bad. And the employees were friendly. So all in all it was another top find and definitely a place I will return to to do some more shopping.

Yelp
I love this place. I don't eat fruits and vegetables, so we mostly come here for my bf. He loves the pears he gets here. Said they are the best. And only .99 a pound. He also loves the little oranges. Last visit we stocked up on some roasted peanuts as well. So good. I came across a new product too. It was called red beans and rice chips. So I decided to try them. They are pretty good. Really spicy! They have a good selection of Cajun seasonings, jams and jelly's and other products. The workers are all friendly too!

Yelp
Good fresh produce at good prices.I try to come here whenever possible because they always have really good produce here and the staff is always nice and helpful. I've never had a bad experience here. I've never even found a rotten piece of fruit/vegetable in the displays like I do when I go to Wal-Mart, Albertsons or Winn Dixie. I'm pretty sure they have an employee get the rotten fruit/veggies out before it rots the rest of the produce. They also have a really delicious selection of cheeses like Blueberry Cheddar and Mediterranean Cheddar that I haven't found anywhere else.Besides that , they also sell Honey with the honeycomb in it, lots of frozen veggies, boiled peanuts, cracklins and they also have several different kinds of fruit trees out front. If you're ever driving by its definitely worth a look.

Rene S.

Yelp
I've come here for years and really love the place. The fruits and veggies change with what's available and I feel like that helps me get more variety in my diet. Plus, it means the food is more fresh and in season.

Yelp
I was hoping this location was better than the Lafayette location sad to say it isn't. Rock hard nectarines and bananas that had a weird taste to them. I won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
Made a stop here a few weeks back with my sister cause she was looking for a certain type of flat pumpkin...at that point in time in my life I never realized there was such a thing as a "flat" pumpkin... Any way this Farmer's Market didn't have what was being searched fro but by God they had everything else!!! Fresh fruits and vegetables every where. They also had packaged goods of the organic variety...I mean there was so much there I really couldn't comprehend it all... One thing I really focused on was a big table/bin of "green" peanuts!!!! I hadn't had boiled peanuts in forever...issues and life conspired against me let's say....anyway I bought 3.5 lbs of them, took 'em home and the next day put 'em in the crockpot and 7 hours later had some great boiled peanuts!!! Sorry, off the point there...all I'm saying is if you are in the need or want for some outstanding fresh veggies and fruit this definitely needs to a "must" stop on your buying trip!!!

Yelp
As with any farm stand or market, you have to pick your produce based on looks. Sometimes the apples don't look great, so I go for oranges. If I don't like the Romain that day, I'll go for the bib lettuce. This is how I approach any produce purchase (whole foods, albertson's, target, etc). That being said, this place is the jam! After relocating from the east coast, I was so pleased to see an array of local products I had never heard of (crawfish jelly!?) made by local companies. They have an decent freezer section full of fresh-frozen veg presumably made in store. The bulk nuts are a nice surprise. I can get in and out of here in five minutes if I need to. Overall, worth the stop.

Yelp
FRESH and pretty affordable. Two of my favorite combinations. They were busy yet everything was neat and well stocked. I didn't have time to search through the frozen section, but it definitely had some goodies in there. All the fruit looked YUMMY. Bring your own bags.

Yelp
Never had a problem with moldy veggies or illegal food substances here. I absolutely love their selection of fruits, veggies and pre-packaged sauces, jams jellies, etc. I have tried their gumbo and etouffee sauces so far, and they have been awesome. Their frozen biscuits are also a delicious breakfast option. Love that the prices are so affordable!

Yelp
My wife does most of the grocery shopping, but when it's my turn to make dinner or shop for the week - I always head here. There isn't any meat selection so you will have to go to maxwells or Cris specialty, but the produce here is unmatched. They have a wide selection and it is FRESH. I also like the frozen vegetable mixes which are easy for cooking, and the nut varieties are reasonably priced. This is a great place to shop if you want to stock your office with healthy snacks for the work week. I moved away from Baton Rouge and lived in New Orleans for five years. There was no similar store in Nola. Now that I'm back in Baton Rouge I remember how great his place is. If you are a local or someone visiting, make sure you take advantage of fresh picking because you can get some really great food here.

Yelp
Great selections of seasonal fruits and veggies. They also got a wide selection of frozen veggies too. Prices are good too. Customer service was okay, could be better with a hello or a smile. Other than that for what I needed for dinner and was out the door.

Yelp
Skip the big box stores for your produce- go to Fresh Pickins! I love the Fresh Pickin's produce stand on Coursey Blvd. in Baton Rouge. They have a great selection of in-season fruits and vegtables, along with a few pre-made and packaged items like jams, jellies, chopped frozen vegetables, ready-to-bake frozen pies, ice cream, tortillas and salsa. And, best of all, their prices are well below that of regular grocery and big-box stores.

Yelp
This is my number on go to spot for all fruit and vegetable oh and they have bottled Zea Thai Rib sauce in a bottle. Perfect for a veggi stir fry!!!!

Yelp
I'm not an expert on fruits and vegetables but I was pleased with the selection. Also happy to give my money to this place vs a chain like Walmart or Albertson's. Prices were reasonable to me. I spent $14 and got apples, butternut squash, tomatoes, asian pears, eggs, greens, and militons(I guess thats how u spell it...it's my husbands thing...not even sure what they are). Anyway, to me thats alot for 14 bucks. I also really liked shopping outdoors. There was this one cute little bird that kept hopping up to the grapes and stealing one everyonce in a while. I kept laughing. Staff is nice too...

Yelp
What is not to love about this place? They carry many in season fruits and vegetables at extremely affordable prices. I love that they also carry a whole bunch of local products such as seasonings and sauces. The staff is always friendly, there is plenty of parking, and for $30 you can basically have fruits and veggies to last you a whole week.

Yelp
This place is the best , it's a must visit .. The fruit and veggie are second to none .. You get friendly service and someone is always ready to help and answer question !

Yelp
When I first started coming here, they were great -- see my previous review. However, I have had some inexcusable produce from them. Namely, I had a head of lettuce that was moldy inside and I have had many many fruits that were inedible. I still shop here, but I have to withdraw my 5-star review.

Yelp
I've seen this place recently on my trips to and from a new job. I finally got to pop in there to see what they had. I found a treasure trove of fresh veggies, frozen seasoning blends and lots of dry seasonings, jellies, jams, preserves, pickled items and much, much more! I wasn't going straight home, otherwise they would have lost a few pounds of delicious Fresh veggies, raw nuts and cane syrup. The next time I am on my way home from work, they will get a visit from me!

Yelp
Love this place! Wide selection of produce and great prices. Other produce markets in Baton Rouge don't compare.

Monique G.

Yelp
Bought strawberries and other fruits in the early morning. When I opened the bag at lunch fruit flies flew out and the berries were moldy. Manager will not refund my money unless I bring the fruit back in however they have already been discarded and I will not put that bag back into my car. This was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
google avatar

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
With early morning hours and a wide variety of produce this location is perfect for picking up small amounts of produce, groceries and boxed goods. The prices are phenomenal. For $20 you'll leave with more than you desired. Always fresh!

Yelp
I have been buying fresh fruits and veggies from this market for many years now. Years ago they started off being top notch! But now they aren't so top notch. It really depends on what you are buying. The potatoes (Idaho) seem to turn black on the inside first so when you are buying them, they look ok, but when you get them home to bake them, you cut them open and there it is!...you lose 1/2 of a potato scooping out the bad part. Same for tomatoes. They go bad really fast from here. Their frozen lima beans are not good quality. I find bad or brown beans in the bag. Also, the frozen broccoli is cut so big! Why they don't just cut it bite sized THEN package it, I don't know. Their turnip roots are usually getting old and same for celery, the bottom of the stalk is always turning pink and mildewy. Now onto the good parts: They do have the best Pink Lady apples! Fresh, most not bruised or marred. They do have the best mustard greens in town. They do have good quality avocados for decent prices. My worst complaint about this place was when I bought some "Mexican Vanilla" from them and found out the vanilla had an illegal substance in it which I brought to the manager's attention and he immediately pulled it off the shelves and it hasn't been seen since. Don't know who that manager was buying from but they completely and totally sold him illegal vanilla. The FDA regulates what goes into Vanilla and this did not pass inspection. Shouldn't the manager have noticed that???....or even known about that? It is his business after all. Their eggplants are pitiful. Always marred, spoiling, bruised and dented. Can't believe he tries to sell them looking like that! I mean who buys them like that?! All in all, this market is good for some things, but not others. You have to use your judgement by looking at the vegetable or fruit and if you see bruising or softness when it's supposed to be firm, don't buy it! Do try the Pink Lady apples! They are the best in Baton Rouge! Sweet and slightly tart and always crisp! Yum!

Yelp
Fresh vegetables and fruit at reasonable prices....in many cases less than the supermarket. They also have a variety of frozen items, sauces, pastas, breads, etc.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this produce stand! They seem to hand pick the best quality fruits, vegetables, dried snacks, local business favorite items, etc. they always have a very large selection and obviously take pride with their displays because it seems nothing is ever out of place. I love their huge supply of frozen vegetables, frozen fried goodies like hush puppies and okra, and fruits. You can get large to moderate quantities for great prices. I was so excited to find the huge selection of dried nuts, fruit, and veggie snacks today, which will be perfect on the go snacks to stash in the car for myself and my kiddos. Also, I don't wanna forget that the checkout process is always quick too with lots of workers who have always been nothing but nice and professional. I'm making a plan to work Fresh Pickins into my weekly routine :-)

Yelp
I bought white peaches, Alabama peaches, and nectarines worth about $10. Without an exception of one fruit, every single fruit was mushy... Very disappointed.

Celeste E.

Yelp
Love the produce but they need lessons in good customer service. I was there this morning. There was no "thank you," "have a nice day" or anything from the cashier. Not one word. I worked in retail when I was a teenager. If I had done that, the manager would have fired me on the spot. I guess things have changed.
