Restaurant Takeout and Delivery Recommendations From Eater Austin Editors - Eater Austin

"For prepared foods: I recently had to go stay at my parents’ house for a day as construction work took away my life force (the internet), and, as parents are wont to do, they made sure I was fed during my stay. This meant light, crunchy chicken salad from neighborhood grocery store Fresh Plus served with crackers and avocado. It was perfect for the hot day, whereas the store’s meaty lasagna would be an excellent option while the nights are still cooler." - Erin Russell

Solid selection for a small footprint in the neighborhood! Wine selection is poorly curated and expensive. Other departments have good options.

Google
Super cute local grocery with everything I needed for a vacation kitchen - walkable from Enfield area. I was hoping for a bulk section but that's a lot to ask from a smaller store. There is a large beer and wine selection and some prepared foods.

Google
Love this neighborhood grocery store. It has everything you need plus some fun things you won't find at other stores. Prices tend to be higher but look for sales for great deals. The staff are lovely. Fresh breakfast tacos and coffee in the mornings.

Google
I love this little grocery store. It's not for the big shops, but they have basically everything you need to put any meal together. So it's perfect for a quick solution to dinner. Good produce, cheese, meat, big selection of wine and beer, all the staples, plus some higher end specialties. Staff are generally great--professional and low key. Prices are a little higher. But they don't gouge you. (eg, My favorite IPA 6pack is 10.99 instead of 9.99 at HEB). Some locals who are disabled and cannot drive shop here and are treated like family.

Google
I deliver here weekly as a vendor. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Google
Slightly pricier than HEB but that's understandable. This store has pretty much everything I need on a day to day basis. Well stocked, clean and cozy.

Love Fresh Plus. I remember using their pay phone (when pay phones still existed) way back in '96 when I first moved to Austin while trying to find apartments, then went inside to buy lunch. Later moved into a nearby apartment and have frequented and loved the place ever since. Kind of expensive, but super convenient, fresh food and always nice. Later moved to the Anderson area and have been going to that location for many more years. Fresh Plus is one of the few, great places that's still in business in this town since way back when....

Google
Nice little grocery store tucked away in a swanky neighborhood. The people here are really nice and they appear to have a great selection of prepared foods. They have a lot of high end brand snacks so things can get pretty expensive, but that's what you'd expect for this neighborhood. They sell firewood at this location but they seem to run out regularly during the cold months.

Yelp
Great people Everyone who works there has always been so friendly. My dad and sister told me about this place and although prices are a bit higher thank a place not in the neighborhood- I feel good supporting a local business that does good for the community.
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been back here in a decade since I moved out of the neighborhood. It has since been remodeled and looks way more like a regular grocery store. I think it maybe lost a bit of its charm, but the pre-made chicken salad and tuna salad were both still delicious, and it was totally empty so made for a very quick stop for some snacks.

Yelp
This place is good in terms of the products they offer, but the attitude of the kids that work there is really bad. Not sure what is the screening process they follow to hire, but perhaps try to hire folks with a bit better attitude. For example, the kid at the deli seems like he is always looking for a fight, rude and condescending. The bearded kid (the manager?) is just a plain jerk. This is not a cheap place (and I'm fine with that), but at least, for the prices we are paying, give a bit better customer service. This comment is not from a one off day these kids might have had, but from a recurrent experience in the last 6 months. Do a better job hiring! PS: the girls at the cashier are actually nice and friendly, so perhaps hire more people like them?

Yelp
I was meeting someone in the parking lot to look at from a Craigslist add and arrived a little early. So what is a girl to do? Shop! I took this opportunity to venture into Fresh Plus Grocery to see what they had to offer the Clarksville/West Lynn neighborhood. First off, walking in the door was awkward. There are two sets of doors. I entered through the set closest to me, which was on the left. When I walked in I was immediately confused. Was I walking backwards through the check out lane or was I walking backwards where the cashier stands? Hmmm. I later learned I was walking in between the office and the back of the cashier. Not much space. Was very weird. The store had an abundance of been and wine, so much that it appeared this was a wine/beer store with some groceries in the middle. They do offer some fresh meats and in-house smoked meats in the back. The produce looked fresh and they had a decent amount of organic and gluten-free options. I was especially pleased to find some of the Muir Glen tomato products on sale for $.99 each. For those that do not know, Muir Glen offers organic (green label organic) tomato products in glad jars or cans, which are BPA free (yippee!). The store was not busy, however by the time we spent 10 min in the store and wanted to check out, there was a line of 3 people in front of us. All-in-all I would shop here if I lived close by and didn't want to venture out to a regular grocery store. However this would not be my go to store on a daily basis.

Yelp
Do you feel lucky, punk? Well I do because I live close-by this cute local grocery store! They have a great selection considering the size, especially when it comes to local items. They normally have the delicious Texas Pie Company pies in stock, good local beer and wine selection, and solid options for vegans. Support local grocery stores!

Yelp
The only place I grocery shop...Freshie P!!! Because naturally, I'm local. But, even If I wasn't, I'd still come here because they carry all my favorite locally-sourced things (Easy Tiger loafs, Pint House Pizza's Electric Jelly IPA, pressed juice, $2 pre-cooked poultry and ground beef, deli tuna with Honeycrisp apples). Thank you for your service, friends!

Yelp
Fantastic little neighborhood grocer -- has everything you need to avoid going into one of the bigger supermarkets on a regular basis. They also do an array of hot and prepared foods, ranging from soups, sandwiches, smoked meats and salads. All usually very tasty. My only issue is the folks that work the hot food/deli can be hit or miss. Sometimes they're fantastic, -- eager to help -- and sometimes they're not as stellar (looking like they want nothing to do with customers). Just depends on who you get back there.

Yelp
I love living close to Fresh Plus - a truly wonderful neighborhood grocery store. Their prices are a little high compared to HEB (though they also have some wonderful deals - often the best price on la croix 12 packs, great deals on meat, etc.) but I still find them more reasonable than Whole Foods, especially with the convenience factor. My only real criticism would be that their chip selection skews heavily "tortilla chip" and I would like some more potato chip options ;) They have excellent health and niche food selection for a smaller store and really really good premade foods from their deli counter. Would always recommend.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this store, but overall it just kind of exists close to my apartment and I go there to get things when I don't want to drive anywhere. Pros: Its close by if you live in Clarksville. They have a decent amount of fresh produce and frozen stuff. They make prepared food that looks tasty, but I haven't tried it. yet. Cons: High prices. Not really a big variety of items to select from. Some of the people working there are really nice, and others act like you're interrupting their lives when you're trying to pay for your groceries. When you do get a nice cashier, shopping there feels a lot better.

Yelp
I love Fresh Plus. It's on the backroads home when rush hour traffic is bad, so it's a really convenient in an out for what you need for dinner. I really like the neighborhood feel of the place. But mostly I love how they surprise me at every turn with some of the products they carry. Gerolsteiner water that you rarely see outside of Central Market, the big 20oz topo chicos that I'd never found anywhere outside of Fiesta Mart, Yellow Bird hot sauce, Bola pizza, so many special local products. Now I spot Tavel Rose on the wine shelves, perfect for a warmish Thanksgiving. Dang, they just carry the stuff that makes you fall in love with them. This is what a neighborhood market should be.

Yelp
My first time in was perfect. I love how small and classic it is. You're in and out in no time and it's also not that easy to find a cheese and meat butcher these days so this is helpful. Their selections are healthy. I was able to find my MCT coffee creamer, healthy chips and other snacks and fresh vegetables. There was also a nice gentleman asking if I needed help carrying my bags to my car. I love that! Everyone was so nice and the place is clean. Definitely going back.

Yelp
I love having the convenience of a grocery store on the same block as my place of business, just in case I am running late and need a few things for dinner or a bite to eat while I am working. This would definitely not be my go-to for full on grocery shopping though. It's a revolving door of staff who many times seem like they have better places to be (I get that- I was a teenager once). While they do have a good selection of prepared foods (the deli is pretty cool) and an option for almost everything you could need, their produce department is questionable sometimes... I swear it seems like someone juggles the apples while stocking them- they are usually so bruised up that I wouldn't spend even half of what they are asking. All around, the prices are a bit higher on most things, but I don't mind spending a little more to support a local business. I just wish they could back up the extra charge with a little better service and mindfulness to some of the details.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I just went to this location and had the best experience. Everyone was so helpful and kind. Not to mention the produce man was so beautiful! If anything y'all need to stop just to see him! Forget the lettuce I needed! WILL be back!

Sally L.

Yelp
Fabulous neighborhood grocery with a truly great variety of foods! I love being able to pop in here and grab most of the groceries I need and then some. Looking forward to the new produce fridges, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Manager is on point! Every time I go in place is stocked! Special shout out to the manager, Dalton for always being helpful and more than happy to assist me with what I am looking for.... I used to not like to go to the grocery store, but now I quite enjoy it. What they're doing with their staff is awesome! Keep up the good work guys!!!

Yelp
Well now I know I'm home. Pleasant surprise #1: I'm 7 houses from here -- Wow!! Pleasant surprise #2: The selection. MORTADELLA!!! I've been craving it for a week and I'm eating a mortadella/havarti sandwich for fuel to type this review. Also, I finally found Ben/Jerry's Colbert inspired flavor Americone Dream. I've wanted to try that since living in Orlando. They also have escargot (I didn't buy it, Jessie). All kinds of finger-food options. All kinds of food/food options. Great cheeses. Olives. Chips. Soups. Pet food. Vitamin section. Big wine selection. Great produce options (I got the biggest apples I've ever seen). Beautiful flowers (I'll upload a pic), etc, etc, etc. Pleasant surprise #3: Everyone who works there. Each person welcomed me to the neighborhood. I think the owner was the one that shook my hand and introduced himself to me telling me that anything I didn't see there to let him know and he'd order it. Another man offered me a cookie (it was damn good cookie). Another one told me that they are working on their vitamin/health products aisle and if I had any suggestions that they would welcome the input. The cashier was a total sweetheart too. I left here feeling total affirmed that I made the right move to Clarksville and truly believe that I'm finally home.

Yelp
It's a little pricey. I mean, we're talking about $3.99 for a small bottle of Mango Tango juice. C'mon. But I love a neighborhood grocery store... and they carry fancy cheese, wine, beer, n whatnots. Oh, and the deli made me a sandwich yesterday that I almost wanted to rub all over my body. It was the size of my head. And I ate every last bit of it.
google avatar

Bacon E.

Yelp
Horrible, terrible, atrociously bad customer service, overpriced food, lame produce. From reading these reviews it seems a lot of people are enticed by the pseudo hipster staff in their cliche Urban Outfitters stylings (with matching attitudes). Guess what, I wear tight rock t-shirts and canvas shoes too from time to time and it doesn't make me any better at running a grocery store. There are a few people who work here that are genuinely nice. The one dude that looks like Shia LaBeouf behind the deli counter is awesome and friendly. But too many staff members are self-pitying and self-important. Once I bought potato salad from the deli and the potatoes were RAW. Not a little undercooked. HARD. It was so bad, I actually returned it, even though that's something I never do with food. The guy behind the counter "joked" that "some woman" bought three pounds of it for a party she was hosting. Another victim of Fresh Plus. I only go to this store because I live within walking distance from it and it's a hell of a lot more convenient than driving to corporate owned Randall's. But I'm so sick of being treated like a piece of shit that I'm actually considering going to an inconveniently located chain grocer instead of one that's nearby and locally owned.

Yelp
While I love the idea of Fresh Plus Grocery, they actually lost me a little on execution. It's a smallish local grocery tabbed along West Lynn, and based on its surroundings, I was a amped to be heading in. I figured there might be a great chance to unearth some indie or boutique, possible eclectic items, and while there was some of that kinda thing here, there also was a great deal of the standard boiler plate big box type fare. They do have, from the looks of it, a decent wine selection, so that's cool, and Lisa A's right -- pricing here tends somewhere in between Randall's and the Central Markets of our town, and the setting is a little bit charming. I could see how if I lived in the neighborhood I might learn how to ignore the things I didn't care much for and emphasize those that were easy to get fired up about. But the kicker for me was the fussy slacker guy (an oxymoron? perhaps) who was at best disinterested, at worst unfriendly at checkout. A little friendliness goes a long way by my estimation of making an average stop better. Here's hoping that guy's an aberration.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I'm visiting from the north east and just expected the same level of service. I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was super helpful and super friendly. Answered every question I had and did it happily. FANTASTIC selection of organic and vegan/vegetarian options. And surprisingly prices are not higher just because it's a local shop. So happy we could walk here and happy to support local businesses. All in all would absolutely recommend. 10 out of 10 from me!

Yelp
Oh the good ol' neighborhood fresh plus. Here's a list of the most common uses. 1.) The Dinner Party/Any Party: I probably forgot something at HEB or Wherever I was and I want to get whatever the hell it is fast and easy, and usually a little more expensive. 2.) The Quick Lunch\Dinner: Just try their deli and already made items like the enchiladas(!!!). They're usually pretty generous and the guys at the deli are a combo of slightly disgruntled and amused by the oddballs who generally shop there. 3.) The Too lazy to go to HEB or some other place: This place is only a few blocks away so when it's 5 o'clock and I don't feel like dealing with the traffic, the the crowds, and the check out time that is longer than both of those combined. It's a cool place, they've got mostly everything you need, and there's no crowds all for a slightly, but usually worth it, price.

Yelp
I love this grocery store... I've loved it for 29 years. It stocks the stuff I cannot find at Whole Foods or Central Market or Randall's ... The folks that own this local sweetheart of ah neighborhood grocery store are great folk too. The fact is the reason I chose to live in West Austin is because of establishments exactly like the Fresh Plus Grocery Store, Nau's Drug store and Lion's Muny Golf Course. It's my humble opinion Clarksville and West Austin are fantastic places to live, Hell I love it here. And I love FRESH PLUS GROCERY. I'm a lover not a fighter.

Yelp
Before I begin, I'll say that Fresh Plus does it's job. It's a neighborhood grocery store which caters to it's tax base. It's a clean establishment with staying power, and is incredibly convenient for anyone living in clarksville. The Deli and Butchery is by far the high point: Fresh, tasty, and just higher quality. Produce: Well, a store as small as this can't nail everything. I wouldn't go there to find your Pummelos or Plantains. If you need an apple, some lettuce, sage, rosemary, and thyme? You'll be in good shape. They've got a reasonable wine selection, pretty solid beer lineup, and the rest of the store is a little hit or miss, but is definitely a good source for getting something quick if you can stand not to be too picky or have a broad idea in mind of what you want. The staff is, well, a mixed bag. They're all nice enough, if they're mentally there. I dig the eccentricity, but deadpan is just not a good luck for someone working in the service industry. Fresh plus keeps it funky, which is tight, but seriously, at least pretend you're cognizant at work. All in all, I'm glad it's there, would probably miss it if it weren't, and will keep going back no matter what I think of it.

Yelp
I remember coming to Fresh Plus when I was a kid because my future-stepdad lived practically next door.. and they had ice cream treats my mom couldn't find at the regular grocery store. Fast forward to around today and my working downtown self sometimes needs a full service grocery store without the crowds at Whole Foods. Fresh Plus has that quiet, somewhat nostalgic old-time grocery feel. It isn't a megamart, nor would I classify it as one of those smaller organic stores that seem to be popping up left and right. This is just an old neighborhood grocery store that has seen years and years go by- and you can feel it when you walk in. The produce section is small, but full. The aisles are kept neat and tidy. If I'm looking for a quick meal, I can find it here and be out the door in a timely manner. It has never been crowded when I've come in. There are people who shop there who look like they've shopped there for years and years, which is pretty cool. The only drawback that I can tell is the price points on everything. Yea, it is kind of a convenience grocery store and so everything will be a little bit pricier than if you were to drive a few miles to an HEB or something. However, I do recommend it if you're just wanting to pick up something quick for lunch or after work if you live downtown.
google avatar

Jim T.

Yelp
I like Fresh Plus. A place like Fresh Plus really does improve the quality of life in a neighborhood. When so many other crappy places like Wal-Mart, CVS etc.. are ruining neighborhoods. They are a bit overpriced on certain things... but that's the price of convenience I suppose. Really, the best thing about Fresh Plus is that they have things you can't get anywhere else. And at the same time, an over all great selection of quality products. For example: Smoked Lamb Chops... wonderful... makes a great cold lamb sandwich Extensive wine, beer, coffee, cheese, meat selections.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
I'm cool with fresh plus. they are near my house, the staff is friendly. the prices are about what i'd expect for a small grocer. i wish they were open later, but what're you going to do? I can't ask everyone to conform to my crazy hours. i'd buy tons more of their produce if it were cheaper. i don't get the complaints about the staff attitude. they've always been plenty nice to me. they don't seem any different than any other younger person i've seen spaced out from being paid to stand in a three foot space for a few hours to work a register. turns out, working a register sucks when your young.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
The butcher shop fulfilled my desire -- by managing to be able to find a restaurant supplier that they could order Hanger steak!! No shit. Justin the butcher went the extra mile and began engaging with me upon hearing my soliciting the deli guy about ordering some hanger steak. If you don't know what hanger steak is, it's the cut of beef that butchers often keep for themselves. Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanger_steak Yes, prices can be inflated on various items. However, I go there for select items and walk away with quality selections. Note: If you go broke buying food, you probably have bigger problems than Fresh Plus' prices. We all know it's not a budget grocery. If that's what you need, try the dollar store ... or WAL-MART. I'm taken back by the negative commentary on the staff. What I find in life is that if you engage with others in a friendly way, that you'll find them doing the same. I should think the absolutely atrocious comments made by Kasey W. on 6/17/2011 are more a reflection of her bitchy self than anything.
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
I am a devoted user of Meyers Clean Day Products. I like that they're green-friendly and you have something pleasant to smell during and after cleaning. I think I'm the only one who has noticed that the Basil scent is superior to all the others. Seriously, if they made a perfume with this smell, I'd wear it. Only problem is, you are lucky to find any product outside the handsoap at any other store in the area. Yesterday I walked into Fresh Plus and all of this changed for me. Not only do they have the handsoap, they have the laundry detergent and countertop spray AND dishwashing liquid all in the best fragrance in the entire world. I hope you understand how amazingly wonderful this is, because it. is. fabulous!! Now that I just wrote an entire paragraph raving about one product, I really like the variety of items in the store. Its a cute little neighborhood grocery with friendly staff that carries just about anything you might need. I wish it were closer to me :)
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great little grocery store that is very near my house. Although I do love HEB it is refreshing to see a mom and pop type operation. The staff is always friendly and they have a great selection of brands you typically can't find at say Randalls. My favorite part of Fresh Plus is the deli counter. $4.99 buys you a monster sandwich made fresh in front of your eyes how you want it! There is also a case full of pre-prepared food. I usually pick up some spring rolls or some pesto penne pasta. I highly recommend stopping by sometime.
google avatar

kelly v.

Yelp
I just freakin love this place. I've never had to wait in line for more than a minute or two, the cashiers and staff are always friendly and they have a surprisingly great selection. I only eat organic and am pretty particular about brands I buy but I can almost always find my last minute needs here. Oh and the parking is never ever a hassle. Love you forever Fresh Plus.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall, great grocery store. Well stocked, offers variety and good quality. A few items are a little more pricey than what I'd consider fair. Some breads and organic milk come to mind. Given the size of the store and the neighborhood, I think it's ok if some things cost a few cents extra. They probably don't get the price break that large grocery stores do, for buying in bulk. Plus, their non-organic milk is not overpriced. So you do have options to budget yourself. On the other hand, some things are cheaper than expected, such as organic produce, tea, and some other things I can't think of now. Every time I buy organic produce, I leave the store happy, because I end up paying a lot less than I pay at Whole Foods. Not a huge selection, but large enough to come up with tasty and healthy meals. After all, this is not Central Market. It's the neighborhood grocery store. They have great selection of wines and beer. I've been using their deli occasionally to boost dinners, if I didn't cook enough, or lacked variety. They have raw and cooked meats, salads, vegetable dishes.... I think their deli sandwiches are overpriced for what you get, but I feel this way toward any deli sandwich, anywhere.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of Fresh Plus grocery store! When I first moved into the neighborhood, I was disappointed to think that Randall's was my closest grocery option. (After all, who doesn't love Whole Foods Whole Paycheck prices, but without the organic fare and samples?) And then I discovered Fresh Plus--a neighborhood oasis of nutritious, delicious eats. It is just the right sized for frequent, quick shopping trips as a grocery store, and has an awesome prepared food section as an added plus! Although prices tend to run slightly higher than H-E-B (and I want to stress that the difference is small), this tends to be because they carry high-quality food items, rather than bargain, over-processed crap. But they've got all your basics and a nice selection of specialty and gourmet items as well. The staff is friendly, helpful, and chill. There are never long lines. And, best of all, the whole place has a real neighborhood, community feel. People know each other and stop to chat in the aisles about the weather, Austin events, family, whatever. I think I would shop here for the vibe alone.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
Such a quirky grocery store. Like maybe the only one I've ever been to where there's a rule that at least one employee must be wearing BluBlocker™ sunglasses at all times, and where there are multiple muchie aisles. The community board out front is also a nice touch. If you're in the 'hood, it's the most reliable place to get your grocery basics-- bleach, inorganic cereals, and the like. They also have the organic stuff; just letting you know there are options. As others have noted, the store actually has a community vibe to it. In a world gone so awry that pro golfers get more tail than awkward, directionless, and slightly off-kilter me, that sense of community makes this jaded reviewer happy.

Yelp
The whole Clarksville neighborhood gets whatever they want. By gets whatever they want, I mean that long-standing institutions have been there for quite some time. Having only been in Austin for 4 years, I often get envious of how they have everything at their access: proximity to Whole Foods, walking distance to Medici, many of the sleek eateries, and... just living in a classy neighborhood! This fine establishment offers a little of everything, in a small package. Not necessarily super local, but it does the job. They have dry goods, produce, a meat market, and just about everything you need. Conventional AND natural is what they strive for. Conventional AND natural is what they achieve. It is a go-to joint in this neighborhood, and the long-standing tradition and tenure of FPG really drives the point home that Austin truly is a neighborhood-centric sort of town!

Yelp
I used to live around the corner from this place and I was glad this place was here when I didn't feel like fighting the crowds at Whole Foods. They have a nice prepared food selection and their deli makes nice sandwiches. They actually have a really good selection of things for the smaller size of this store. The prices on the prepared foods are generally a good value and its an interesting place to check out.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Great selection for a small store and now they even have a gluten free aisle right next to the cheese and meat section. Yay! They even carry wheat free dog food. Here you can find mexican coke, healthy food, a nice selection of cheese, wine and chocolate. I go here a lot when I don't want to spend time trying to get in and out of whole foods.
google avatar

Daniela H.

Yelp
This location is very old but cute. I did a demo for about four hours here and saw how the the customer service interaction was more a family feel. The same customers come back again and again and ask about eachothers' lives. The selection is conventional mixed with organic/all natural food. The deli area has prepped foods and regular deli meats. The manager does everything from cashier to front wine.. very hard worker. The staff are all under the age of 25 (or atleast they all look that way).. the price points are pretty standard for a smaller grocery store, but the sales they have beat the heck out of WFM, Trader Joes and other grocery chains. Heck they have Buddha's Brew on sale for 2 for $5 bucks right now.. that is the cheapest in the metro area.. They also have local peaches and a organic produce selection. I am glad that small chains like this are still alive and thriving after places like WFM are around.

Yelp
Love how convenient this place is! It's the best wine/beer selection you could possibly ask for from a neighborhood grocer. They also have a decent variety of organic products which is a bonus. Plus, the staff are always super chill & friendly. Can't go wrong shopping here!
google avatar

Yelp
Their brand Oatmeal Raisin cookies are heaven on earth!!!! Put some big sugar rocks on top and you a treat that is unbelievably delicious. Ohhh and the product - the best in town. Their organic kale is better than every other place in Austin I've tried.

Yelp
Fresh Plus is one of those places that takes me back to my childhood grocery store in Windsor, CT. You walk in, and it has that classic grocery store smell that you just don't find anymore. I can't even explain it, but you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. The veggies are fresh and local. Enough said there. The wine and beer selection was surprisingly gigantic. Craft beers, excellent wines. The specialty cheese selection is amazing. I didn't even know what to get because they had everything a cheese lover needs to stimulate his taste buds. I have always loved the Clarksville neighborhood, but Fresh Plus makes me wish even more that I lived nearby. You pay higher prices for basic need items at Fresh Plus, but the mission, passion and throw-back of the store overshadows these higher prices. Highly recommend a trip to FP when you get a chance.

Yelp
I think Fresh Plus is the perfect neighborhood grocery store. Yes, items may be more expensive but that's what happens when you're not a huge corporation... It would be nice to see more local goods there though.

Yelp
I love Fresh Plus. It's the place to go in Clarksville to stock up on produce, grab food for a picnic, get a cold drink, or get a meal to go. Pros: -Plenty of parking -Easy to walk to -Usually multiples checkout lanes open -Unusually great section of soaps and other toiletries -Open late: Til 10 nightly -Friendly and cool staff -Fresh meat/butcher -Good selection of cheeses and meat

Yelp
I go to Fresh Plus all the time (and I mean all the time- morning, noon, and night) and usually have a good experience. The produce is fresh, they have a wide variety of cheeses, the wine and craft beer selection is outstanding, and the deli is spectacular. What really makes it into an experience rather than just an errand is the cashiers. For the most part, they are incredible! I'm a regular, so I've gotten to know them a bit. Jesus is always so friendly and helpful, and Rain always makes my day by genuinely caring about the customers. That laugh, and always dancing! I never have a bad day when I see Rain! Aubrey is so sweet and kind, and I see all of these cashiers doing so much; they are running around the store doing all sorts of chores, answering the phone, and dealing with unruly customers. Honestly, I doubt they're making enough to even sustain themselves, and that's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. Note to the managers, give these awesome folks a raise, or they'll all leave for greener pastures and myself and all of the other regulars I know will be sad! If you're in Clarksville, definitely check out Fresh Plus, say hi to Rain and Jesus and Aubrey and all of the others, and grab you some of those darn good deli sandwiches!

Yelp
Really awesome staff at the store on west lynn. There are a few people who have turned my day around with a helpful attitude and a smile.I am taking note of this because Austin is changing so fast and stores like this are getting harder to find. Yes the cheese prices are insane at this store and the parking lot can be hell but it is so worth it.

Yelp
I live in the area and shop at Fresh Plus often. It's great for dry goods and other basics. The reason for my two star review today is that I purchased some stuffed chicken breasts from their meat counter yesterday. When I unwrapped them at home they smelled awful! I mean really, really bad. Some of their "fresh" food is not always fresh! Also, Fresh Plus, you should put a contact email on your website.

Yelp
Exceptionally low standard of customer service. The clerk and night manager refused to give me sale price on small item that was prominently displayed as on sale; the sign was still up although the sale was over. I wrote to manager asking for apology but got no response. I had been a customer for 35 years but no more.

Yelp
Fresh Plus has ruined me for the rest of my life. I will never again live in a neighborhood where I cannot walk to a locally-owned grocery store. Sure it's a dollar more but my life is markedly better because of Fresh Plus. And thanks for the extended hours!

Yelp
I love this place. From the sweet workers to the little bit of everything they offer in such a tiny place, in my mind it couldn't get any better. They not only have a great beer and wine selection, they also offer vegetarian and/or organic foods too! I often pop in for lunch at the deli and everything is super yummy...especially the tuna salad. Stop in and browse, it's fun to see what new things they've brought in.

Yelp
four stars is probably too high. three stars is probably too low. i do love this place, so i'm erring on the high side. i've lived in the hood for about 10 years, and go in no less than once a week. usually more. so on the short side, that's 500 visits. it's about time i wrote a review. yes, the staff is young. yes, the prices are higher than HEB. but you can get in and out in 60 seconds if you know what you want and where it is. as lisa said, parking is right by the door. i have to add that while nicole states they don't have organics... they do sometimes. and for just somethings. most often local organic lettuce. they do a fine job of carrying & labeling what's local. the sammiches at the deli in the back are solid. not awe inspiring, but solid. soup is pretty ok. they have a thai noodle salad that rocks. it's not always there, but it's always good when it is. but what really sells me on this joint is the smoked meat section. it's back in the back corner. by the non-smoked meats. the meats they smoke vary. there are usually some chicken parts, sausages, and pork cuts. all smoked. all delicious. sometimes, they even have turkey breast. for real turkey breast. not the pressed, formed, lunch meat kind - on the bone, with the skin. fo' real. ok, maybe it's the meat that didn't sell and then they smoke it and try to sell it again... who knows? i don't. and i don't care. it's freakin good. and it's cheap. you can get some nice smoked pork ribs. reheat in your oven at home = delicious bbq dinner. and the smoked chicken thighs! i think they're around 50 cents each. you can eat 'em like they are or give your burritos that little extra pa-ziz-ow. the do have a decent wine selection and enough mexican beer to keep me happy. (they are never out of tecate or limes) an old friend worked there a loooong time ago and she called it "fresh plus a few days" so yeah, check your expiration dates and you should be ok.
