Some Hamptons Restaurants Are Seeing An Uptick in Sales With Outdoor Dining | Eater NY

"In East Hampton, Fresno’s parking lot was morphed into a beer garden by owner David Loewenberg — who also owns well-regarded spots like the Beacon and Bell and Anchor in Sag Harbor — as a creative attempt to adapt, though he admits it’s not quite the same as it was pre-pandemic." - Beth Landman

I’ve been coming to Fresno in East Hampton for decades, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently flavorful and amazing — their pork dish, in particular, is absolutely to die for. It’s prepared perfectly for my liking. You can really taste the care and quality in every bite. The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for both a cozy dinner and a special night out. While the service can occasionally be hit or miss, it never takes away from the overall experience. Fresno remains one of my all-time favorite spots in the Hamptons — a true gem that always delivers!

Yo, this bartender’s smoked Old Fashioneds are pure jelly vibes! Each sip’s a smoky, silky knockout—perfectly balanced, with that bourbon glow and a wobbly, gelatinous charm that sticks with you. Absolute mixology wizardry, 10/10, I’m wobbling back for more!

Beautiful setting. Service tepid. Drinks really poor. Ordered peach salad, which was oddly salty and supposed to be yellow peaches. Two slices of those which were over ripe but tasty. Rest was white peaches (which I love) but hard as a rock under ripe. I expect more from Fresno Place. Been coming here before they renovated and it used to be sooo good.

Absolutely loved this place and the food was incredible.. We got the black bean soup to start. I got their salmon which was phenomenal. Our waiter was also amazing as well and I really enjoyed my cocktail..

It may be the end of the Summer season but Fresno is a year round gem. It is not a pop-up and has no gimmicks but what it does have is great food and atmosphere. It is not inexpensive but I never feel like I have been over charged because the food is just so good. I am writing this review because we were 4 people celebrating 2 birthdays on Aug 29th and we hit the server JACKPOT. His name is Jack and he made our night so special and that's not the norm at many Hampton's restaurants. His humility, knowledge of the menu and the wines was exceptional. We learned a little bit about him and what an interesting man. Educated, travelled, a local, a teacher and an all around gentleman. Hey Fresno, thanks for our luck in having Jack take care of our table. And to Jack, all the best to you and your students and to your family. Fresno year round for us.

Google
My take is don’t come here for the food. While the flavor is ok. The portion sizes are tiny. I am a small person and was surprised by how little food they serve. I ordered the salmon and it was it wasn’t even close to meal size. We ordered Barata for starter and it came with two tiny pieces of toast. My recommendation is to eat a meal before or after you come here then enjoy the atmosphere. Otherwise you will leave hungry.

Google
Had a phenomenal dinner, loved everything we ordered. We will be back! Apps: oysters and buffalo cauliflower Entrees: bigeye tuna, salmon, poke bowl Dessert: chocolate cake and coffee ice cream

Yelp
Maybe the best restaurant out east!!! In a scene where the food is overpriced and fall flat, Fresno is the spot to go. The prices are reasonable (like NYC prices) and the portions are decently sized. We have been a few times and they are consistent. Maybe the best scallops I've ever had. Steak was cooked perfectly. Salmon is to die for. Love this place!!

Yelp
Started with fried zucchini. Just sooo bad. Think like you made them at home. Had tacos and they were so tiny. Only 2. What? My son had duck beyond small. Rigatoni was good and the pork chop. The service worst I ever had in Hamptons. Just a bad experience

Yelp
The menu at Fresno is very eclectic and there is something for everyone here. There were many interesting appetizers and salads as well as entree options. All fresh, I enjoyed the food here and the drinks were also excellent. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, especially the outdoor patio. Make a reservation. Unlike some reviews, I did not have any issue with service or unfriendliness. In fact, our server was very polite, professional and accommodating.

Yelp
A nice ambiance with good food. The service was good. Anabelle took care of us. She was extremely nice and did everything right. The burger was decent (which is good by normal standards).
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Always solid in the food, department, friendly and helpful staff, decent ambiance. The outdoor tables on the slate patio are fine, but the chairs (also on the patio) on the rocky area are a bit tippy. Didn't make any difference to dinner, though. The duck spring rolls were amazing, and i had the cazuela, which is a kind of saffrony fish and shellfish stew. Reallly tasty, and filling. My wife had the duck breast, which was also excellent. Not stupid expensive, for East Hampton, and not ridiculously difficult to get a reservation.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a quiet Thursday evening and sat outside. The calamari was very good & so was the Burrata. We ordered two Cataplana seafood entrees - our group's main issue was regarding the lobster. The lobster tail was tough beyond belief and impossible to remove from the tail. Two of our friends ended up trying to tear the meat from the inside using their fingers. Our waiter (middle aged, white hair) noticed from the server area inside and thought it was hilarious. He got the attention of the red haired female busser, and both of them stood inside, laughed & mocked our two friends for trying to get their money's worth from a $52 tough seafood entree. It was honestly so terrible to see the wait staff mocking our guests instead of acknowledging the issue with the food.

Cristina B.

Yelp
Terrible service! We went on a relatively quiet not busy Monday evening. Restaurant was nowhere near full but the waitstaff was pretty terrible. They seemed to deliberately rush away from the table before you had a chance to ask for something, would never look over or make eye contact when rushing past and overall was not attentive. I hope they can make more of an effort to get their staff together because this is a well loved institution in East Hampton.

Yelp
Most delicious pasta I've had in a while. Love that they do half portions. Cozy atmosphere that's perfect for cold winter nights. Definitely recommend sitting in the indoor covered area.
google avatar

Rita G.

Yelp
Two stars for cozy, pretty dining room ambience and for the friendly service. However, after a few attempts we've found the food is consistently over-salted, the roast chicken disappointingly dry, and the salads lack, well, love! For example, the wedge salad we were served one Sunday night was an embarrassment. A puny slice of iceberg, a couple of grape tomatoes and cucumber slices, and honestly what appeared to be bacon bits, but perhaps was pulverized bacon, sprinkled on top. The blue cheese dressing could not hide the other lackluster salad components, although I think that may have been the aim! If Fresno's kitchen would up its game we'd happily return.

Yelp
Being big early dinner fans, we showed up right as they were opening. I liked the outdoor dining space, particularly the wide spacing between tables. I've always loved spicy cocktails so went with the jalapeño-infused cocktail. Definitely a bit of a kick but very manageable and went down smoothly (I also slept like a rock after this one drink). The food was fresh and portion size was reasonable, though I've since learned to add a dollar sign to the price rating of every Hamptons place. (1) Tuna sashimi was a nightly special. Definitely order this but ask for the jalapeños to be put on the side. I had two tiny slivers and almost burned my tongue. (2) Watermelon salad. Delicious. I'm going to try making this myself, as it's pretty simple - in-season watermelon, feta, slivered almonds, and some arugula. (3) Chilled tomato soup with the best garnishes - bacon and potato chips. Yes! I love a place that knocks the ball out of the park with soup garnishes. None of that microgreen nonsense. I ate half of the pommes frites that came with the hangar steak. They were the perfect brown and level of crispiness. No limp, soggy fry in this bunch.

Richard S.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant with friendly and welcoming staff. Great service and the food was delicious, including the iced tea, which was a total disaster at the place where we had lunch earlier in the day.
google avatar

Dorothy M.

Yelp
My husband and I love this restaurant. It's cozy and warm and the food is delicious. The service is excellent too. Try the pasta bolognese. It's excellent. So is the duck. A hidden gem in East Hampton!

Marc R.

Yelp
The restaurant was dysfunctional all night. We had to wait 35 minutes for our cocktails, which took 3 separate waiters. The food was decent but was told that the special of the night was sold out when we ordered. They were playing catch up all night and the other tables around us were complaining also. No one at the restaurant acknowledged the problem.

Sally C.

Yelp
Where to begin... first time and last time, I actually don't get where the 4-5 stars are coming from? Agree with the other reviews of 1 star. I was being kind and gave it an extra star. The food and service was mediocre and overall overpriced. We're a foodie family from fine dining to food truck tacos. I don't put a price on food that is good but $700 later I felt like we just threw money out the window. Note we paid a pretty penny at The Palm and the food and service were excellent. Let's start with service, 75% of 2 coke bottles were spilled on my sons shirts. Resulting in one having to replace his wet shirt for the jacket that I luckily brought with us. Without it, he would have needed to go shirtless. We received an apology from the waiters but no management (she walked by and walked away) how much effort would it have cost to apologize or acknowledge the incident, but I guess we weren't worth the time. I mean the back of my son shirt was soaked wet ( yes that's how wet his shirt was and no I'm not even exaggerating). The second son had a splash on his shirt and pants). They didn't even help to wipe down the chair. I had to switch out the wet chair. If not, he would have had partially wet shorts. As for food, one member in my party ended up with diarrhea, the other noted that the fish special for the day tasted "fishy" and like it was "frozen" fish as opposed to special of the day fresh fish. In my opinion "special of the day" types of food you would think is fresh... but maybe I'm asking for too much. As for dessert, the cookie ice cream tasted like thick, stale, hard chips ahoy cookie with ice cream. It was so hard that I thought I was going to crack a tooth. Why even bother to give us utensils? You had to eat it with your hands. If you tried to cut it in half, it would have slide off the plate. Brighter side, there were 3 decent dishes: the calamari, the chocolate cake with Nutella and salmon. Note, this restaurants charged 10.00 for bread and butter! Kids: We had 5 kids in our party their ages range from 3-12 so we asked about a kids menu, which they didn't have but happily noted they can make a kids version. Like pasta with butter, plain burger, plain steak. Im thinking it's kids portion food and priced as such (I should have confirmed). I mean how much can a 3 or a 7 year old eat? 3 steaks later for 3 of the 5 kids was about 150. When I inquired about the bill, they noted the kids version was a full entree without the sauce. In my opinion it looked like I received a kids portions with 6-8 pieces of steak with 1/2 the plate filled with a salad as a full price.

Yelp
The GM is extremely rude. Completely un-accommodating for our table of 14. We made a reservation for a birthday and they completely messed it up with no remorse or customer service. Don't go here if you want to be treated with respect.

Yelp
Became one of Hamptons favorites after our first visit and we go back often. Great menu includes meat, fish, pasta. Good scene and also covered patio seating.
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
We just had an excellent meal and thought it appropriate to let everyone know the mussels were great the mushroom and the broccolini were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious the vegan poke bowl also excellent And our waiter Aaron friendly and very helpful can't wait to return

Mike J.

Yelp
Great food and great service. I had the Berkshire pork and my friend had the swordfish. They were both wonderful, simply prepared very fresh and properly cooked. The ambience in the place is very nice and the artwork on the walls is very pleasant all in all a great experience with definitely go back again.

Yelp
Food was great but it was so hot inside we were sweating the whole time. One of my guests started to faint so we had to go outside. Wish we had a better time as we go to their sister restaurant The Beacon a lot.

Yelp
I rarely write reviews but have to share my experience at this restaurant. Food was eh, ok. If you want Italian food then go here but you won't be impressed but it will do the job of filling your belly. The service...I have NEVER been a restaurant in my life and been treated so badly and from the start. It was almost as if the waitress saw it was a table of 6 and was pissed off. Two of us were not consuming alcohol so I can safely say we were not drunk idiots and she had to put up with BS. Very cold and we all sensed it. Came to a head when someone brought out our apps and asked for the waitress for another drink. The waitress came over and said "yea?" My friend gave her order and the waitress walked off. Didn't ask if anyone else needed anything or how are the apps. Odd but ok, fine. When she was clearing our plates someone at the table asked for a takeout box. She places the takeout box in front of me and my friend grabbed the box to combine and the waitress yelled across the table "that's hers!" Okay weird. She took my friends plate to box it for her. When she came back she dropped it on the table (open box) and dropped the check on the table and walked off. Pretty aggressive. My friend and I didn't even want to eat the takeout at this point for fear she did something to our food. It was a very awkward experience and very uncomfortable dining experience

Yelp
Spectacular bar and restaurant. In my humble opinion best burger in town. I like to sit at the bar for the chilled glass of beer. Great lighting and decor with lovely outdoor seating in warmer seasons. Friendly and intelligent staff. A hole in the wall gem that I highly recommend

Laurie F.

Yelp
Fresno has been our go to for years. Michael and his staff are warm and welcoming and the food is always great. All of that said, I've noticed recently that the portion sizes are smaller and that's not good. Someone in my party ordered the pork chop and was hungry when he finished. I started with a large salad and it was a good thing, because my portion of fish was just too small.

Yelp
Nice little spot a few minutes from my East Hampton airbnb. I came in for dinner with a group of eight last Saturday night. It had rained all day so the screens were up on the covered patio, but as the night went on, the weather improved, so we were able to get some fresh air (what a difference in ambiance! I can only imagine how beautiful it is on a nicer evening). We kept things pretty basic with the meal - a few apps but mostly entrees and maybe only one or two desserts among the group. The majority ordered wine (myself included) but those who had cocktails enjoyed them. My entree was fabulous - the perfect pasta dish for summer. Bucatini with fava beans, English peas, pancetta, watercress and sheep's milk ricotta. Our server was super efficient - and that's not always the case with a larger group, so it was appreciated. Overall a nice experience!

Yelp
This was delicious for takeout! I was very pleased with my meal. Special thanks as well to Michael for his help with the crab portion.

Yelp
Lovely casual dining minutes from downtown East Hampton. Lots of parking on site and on the street. There was some miscommunication about my order at first, but the waitress quickly rectified that. If you're not sure about what to get, you can't go wrong with the burger. Comes with pomme frites which can be made with truffle for $4 extra. Finished the meal with a S'mores Tart. Dark chocolate ganache with burnt marshmallows on a graham cracker crust. Pay a visit if you get a chance. The PEI mussels look good too, but my wife is not a fan of seafood, and I can't eat all of that myself
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Felt like the restaurant was run by an airline with all of the niggling little charges. Now you must pay extra for bread and butter which used to just arrive at the table gratis. An embarrassingly small Caesar salad was $20. And it was underdressed. The Fresno Burger was $23 which is standard for the East End, but there was an "upcharge" for bacon. Worst of all, the ice tea, arrived in a glass that might have held all of 5oz (no joke), was $5 and no free refill. That meant $10 for less than a soda can's worth. The entrees were quite good, but Fresno needs to work on pricing. I understand that costs have gone up, and I am willing to pay for that, but don't nickel and dime me! And were they saving money on heat? It was so cold that most of us kept our coats on throughout the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is an absolute joke. We were seated and waited for 40 min and weren't even given water or bread or anything. We eventually went to the bar to get drinks for ourselves. There were people who showed up after us and they were served at least another 20 min before we were. The food eventually came and it was overpriced for small portions of dry and flavorless food. I highly recommend this place if you feel like wasting your night and hard earned money but if you value yourself more than the sidewalk please just go somewhere else.

P R.

Yelp
Yummy salmon tartar at the bar and a nice chat with a bartender. The place was completely empty however on a Sunday night at 7 pm. May be that's too early now for EH older party crowd?!

Ale L.

Yelp
Really bad experience. Starting with the waitress who was incredibly rude. Became angry when I asked fora menu and threw a tablet at me. When we later asked about wine by the glass she became angry. I ordered a porkchop, which was dry and overcooked. Normally I would have sent it back, but didnt.

T D.

Yelp
Overpriced. Chicken Milanese with salad topping. $40. Complete rip-off. Tired of eating in mediocre overpriced restaurants.

Sara A.

Yelp
Four of us enjoyed an excellent meal here last Friday. They have removed lots of tables, giving everyone more than ample space to comply with current regulations. You even had an option to sit at the bar, safely. We had a Chicken, Salmon and of course the hummus, as it's the best! Us girls tried the Street Leaf Johnny's pasta special, appetizer portions- Delicious, huge pieces of tasty mushrooms! Great to see our local restaurants making it work and staying delicious!
google avatar

Mileen Z.

Yelp
Fresno was one of our favorite discoveries this summer! Their patio is cozy and the perfect spot for outdoor dining. Came here twice with a group and everything we got was delicious! Highlights include the caviar pasta, lobster roll, and salmon. Can't wait to go back again!
google avatar

Collin K.

Yelp
Service 4/5 Food 4/5. Friendly service and beautiful outdoor patio setup. Food was great, lump crab pasta was delicious!

Julia L.

Yelp
Love Fresno all year round. Charming in the summer, cozy in the winter. Everything I've had on the menu has been excellent and I've tried most everything. Favorites are the mussels, the burger, the lamb special, all the special soups...

T C.

Yelp
This place makes amazing Sagaponak mules and the bolognese was fantastic! I will definitely be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Still a go to spot even in COVID times. We ordered dinner tonight for our anniversary and were very satisfied. The disco fries were an awesome throwback and threatened to make everything else seem blah until we tried the cauliflower farro with the pork chop. That was amazing! Kudos to Gretchen in the kitchen for continuing to surprise us. We can't leave out the Meyer Lemon Cosmos. Trust us and order a pint. Excellent idea from Michael!! Special note - always order the soup if it's one you like. We have a quart of lentil soup and will be enjoying that over the weekend the same way we did the black soup a week or so ago.
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
Ahhhhmazing! Food, ambience, service. Almost every item on the menu looked delicious, and I just wanted to try each of them. It was fresh, flavorful and absolutely delicious. I wish they had this place in the city.
google avatar

Nadeem Z.

Yelp
The atmosphere is really nice and the best part of the experience here. The food was really good too. The hummus is prob the best I've ever had. My wife agreed. Service was good too. My steak was spot on and came with fries and arugula, which are my fav!!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
3.5 really. We were a group of 8 and most seemed to really enjoy their meals. Great service. Of all our appys, I enjoyed a salad with pistachios and pea tendrils and excellent mussels. Calamari and octopus passed but did not excel. My entree, salmon with curried carrot sauce, was the best of all I tasted. Two people who had spaghettini with crab both asked "Where's the crab?" This was a good meal but for the price (tax/tip $70 no drinks, no dessert) I've had much better.

Angie J.

Yelp
First time here and will definitely come back again. The food and service are A+. There was an issue with our reservation on Resy and they were very accommodating. The whole restaurant is a vibe specially the patio. Great for groups as well as couples looking for a romantic dinner.
google avatar

Amara C.

Yelp
The food was incredible. We ordered the hummus, the watermelon salad, the mixed greens salad with pear, the salmon tartar, the salmon entre, and crab spaghetti. Each dish was delicious, with balanced flavors and great texture. The salad was a bit lackluster, but it was nice to have a healthy dish in the mix. My dad got the Kentucky Honey to drink and he said it was really good. The servers were nice and the volume wasn't too bad. I'd recommend making a reservation because it gets crowded at night.
google avatar

Raphael R.

Yelp
Probably one of the highlights of our trip. We had the night specials (Tuna and steak), and everything was delicious.

J K.

Yelp
Disappointing experience. Our second time visiting, and this time a second couple joined us. We shared a few apps (the burrata is fantastic) but the big mishap happened during the mains, with no apologies or corrections. One couples mains came a full 10 minutes before ours. When my boyfriends steak came, it was brought out as rare when he ordered it medium. My salmon was essentially sashimi and was brought out even after my boyfriends, so I was eating when everyone else was done. Throughly disappointing flavours on my dish as well- super salty and undercooked. This was not taken off the bill, nor even recognized (I took one bite and the rest was whole on my plate). An apology would have been nice. Would give an extra star for the ambiance, it was great out there. Too bad, we really thought this would be our go to place in East Hampton.

Yelp
The season is upon us again and while laying out Sunday afternoon I decided that I wanted some alone time with the girlfriend. Upon searching for available restaurants that had open spots for an early dinner I settled on this gem. Upon entering we were immediately welcomed and being the second party there had the luxury of picking any seat in the house. We settled on indoor seating and the experience began. This place is a quaint place and off of the main drag but don't let that deter you. Within a matter of minutes of our arrival more and more people started to fill the bar as well as the dining area. We started out with a the mussels and Chipotle hummus. Both of these starters were heavenly. The white wine broth was just enough to add a bit of umpf to the mussels. And the hummus was one of the best that I've had. With the reggae tunes in the background I had some the need for something to go along with it so I ended up with the Pork Chop that featured a Jamaican jerk. Now this was the second pork chop that I had during the weekend and let me tell you this one took the cake hands down. It was cooked to perfection and was one healthy portion. This place has jumped to one of my top places in the area. Give it a try you won't regret it.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in East Hampton. Slightly off the beaten path, which makes it all the more special. Warm vibe, great bar and wonderful food all year round.

Yelp
Here's my scores: Salmon tartar: 8.5 Watermelon Salad: 9 Cod entree: 8 (if you don't like curry, you won't like it) Pork Chop with apricot entree: 9.5 (the BBQ sauce is a 10) Strawberry shortcake dessert: 3 (wayyyy too salty. Wondering if it was a bad shortcake batch) Chocolate cake with nutella: 9.5 (swapped out for vanilla gelato, no regrets here!) Service: 8.5 Overall Score: 9 (definitely going back for more)
