I’ve walked by this place so many times and never went in. Today I was nearby, just wanted one slice, so I finally tried it — and I’m so glad I did. The owner was incredibly friendly and proud of his craft. He showed me how he treats the dough — three full days of work, not your quick mix-and-bake. You can taste the effort in every bite. The sauce, the texture, everything was just right. Yeah, the slice is a little small and the price a bit high, but it was totally worth it. One slice was enough for lunch, and honestly, one of the best I’ve had this year. I tried the honey pizza and added vodka sauce on top — unreal combo. The dough was airy and crisp, cooked with love, and the homemade honey gave it that perfect sweet-spicy kick. The cheese and burrata tied it all together. It’s a real celebration of flavor — bold, balanced, and addictive in the best way. Go try it and tell me what you think. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FRICO on 2nd — Detroit-style heaven in NYC. (Real review, not an ad.)

Google
Great food and awesome staff! This is my first time coming here and I’ve never had Detroit style pizza before. Now, I can’t imagine not having it in the future. So much taste, flavor and tang in each bite that I had to go back and get some for lunch the next day. My wife was with me as well and she had one of the weekly specials, the lemon drop, and was so surprised about the flavor palette she also wanted to take some home. I will definitely be coming back for more and already have started spreading the word about how great this place is. We both felt like we were in pizza heaven!

Google
Literally the best pizza ever! I was blown away by the taste and quality of this pizza. Better than anywhere in Italy, Brooklyn or the Village. I had a slice on Friday, went to a Zen weekend and the whole time kept thinking about going back on Sunday, which I did. Had the Hot Honey Burrata, Dr. Johns and Vodka. All excellent. The people there are great too. Be warned its a small space but well worth it and kind of fun.

Google
Tried the new pizza spot that just opened in my building and I’m seriously impressed. The slices are phenomenal, crispy crust, great flavor, and you can actually taste the quality of the ingredients. The staff is super friendly too, which makes the whole experience even better. You can tell they care about what they’re serving. Definitely my new go-to for a quick, legit slice. Also, I get whole pies like the honey cup.

Google
Detroit-style pizza heaven on the Upper East Side. Just around the corner from the post office, so it's super convenient for lunch when I have a package to send. The public-facing area consists of a tiny space in front of the counter, with a couple of stools for inside eating. The case there displays a slice of the various options of the day (which I hope get eaten by the staff each night). Each of my visits I was greeted by a different person who helped me figure out what to try on that trip. Then it's waiting several minutes for your order to warm up in the oven, only to get elegantly finished by the pizza guy before it's ready to be served. The "Cup N Char" of the first visit has the thick pepperoni "cups" just absolutely covering the gigantic square of pizza, salty, delicious meat, topped with extra sauce , shredded cheese, and a little basil leaf. Of course the edge is a buttery, cheesy, salty mess, perfection in a slice. Other slices vary widely. My last slice was the Bianco, no sauce, but loads of mozzarella, whole roasted garlic cloves dotting the surface, and four blobs of ricotta added after heating up. Of course it's covered in more shredded cheese, as well as the basil leaf. My other visit featured a bourbon honey drizzled over the red sauce slice with pepperonis, and again with the ricotta blobs and extra cheese and basil. The outside seating has now taken shape as well, four tables with umbrellas on half the sidewalk. If you've chosen a red sauce slice, be aware that you really, really ought not try to walk and eat. It will be extremely messy. Best to have a seat and enjoy. Yes, the slices are an uncomfortable $6.50 (plus tax, tip) and up. The whole pies are generally mid-$20s and up. Yes, this is expensive for pizza. No, this does not mean it is not worth visiting - I am comfortably well-fed on one slice, which surprised me, too. There are a LOT of calories going on, delicious, delicious calories. Once the wife agrees with me that dieting is for suckers, it's going to be whole pies for delivery. I can't wait!

Google
So thankful that a top notch pizza shop just open on the upper East side. Frio is doing it like no other, they’re changing up the game by introducing New York City to Detroit style pizza with crispy cheese on the sides. I tried their classic New York slice and their garden pesto. Both were phenomenal. The crust and Sauce are absolutely phenomenal, and they even added fresh basil and freshly shaved Parmesan on top. All of the folks working there are also incredibly nice and the service was top-notch! I can’t wait to go back

Google
ALERT!!! The Upper East Side pizza drought is officially OVER! Welcome Frico on 2nd! Their Detroit squares are delish, but Frico's NY slice is absolutely AMAZING! It hits all the elevated slice notes and totally is in the zone with L'Industrie, Ceres, Scarr's, Lucia, Mama's Too, and Mano's.

Google
It's not a huge spot, but you can find a seat. It's the kind of pizza you want to take home so you can get cosy and enjoy. The pizza is absolutely delicious. It was my first time there and won't be my last!

Yelp
I stumbled upon Frico during a trip to the UES. Excellent Detroit style pizza (even better than the Detroit style pizza I recently had in Michigan) and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
With so many pizza places in the city, it's hard to stand out. However, this new hole-in-the-wall Detroit-style pizzeria offers options that are both delicious and original. I got their Fig Around & Find Out (roasted fig, prosciutto crudo, burrata and orange infused olive oil) and loved every single bite. With all the pizza I've had in my life, this was my first of this type. Crunchy crust, airy dough, fresh and flavorful ingredients of high quality. You will not regret paying a visit! A big shout out to Jake, who helped us select our square and told us everything about the pizza, the award-winning employees and the memorabilia on display. Thank you, Jake!

Yelp
Not for me, certainly too greasy, and not the kind of style of pizza that I would normally enjoy, though I would like to find a good Detroit slice in the city Update: And an owner who can't take criticism! Don't take it personally owner! One star.

Yelp
I tried the plain Ole cheese slice $4.50 and it was good. Just the right amount of cheese and sauce topped with basil. There was a bit of flop unfortunately. The service was friendly and welcoming. I like how convenient the location is and the m15 bus stop is in front of it.

Yelp
Really good gourmet pizza! I got the plain slice and also the Detroit style flavor of the week The Decatur Street. Both are great tasting. The Detroit style crust is nice and crunchy. It's filling. The plain one is flavorful, a little on the salty side, but still very tasty. They have a happy hour special for $1 off slices from 2pm-5pm daily. Also a Monday $5 off Margherita whole pie. Great way to try a few slices.

Yelp
Must try: Honey Cup, Sorrento, Pinocchio, and Frico! Why: Big and thick square Detroit style slices. Packed with sauce and flavors. Airy dough with crispy crust edges. Very filling. I honestly loved all four slices because each one was unique. I've had a version of Honey Cup (Cup N Char Pepperoni with Ricotta, Hot Honey, and Basil) elsewhere but this was next level here. I don't even know what all was on the Sorrento or Frico as it wasn't on the menu but was in display window. Worker recommended Pinocchio has her fav and she was spot on - Roasted Rosemary Potatoes, Crispy Pancetta, Cream Sauce, Garlic and Chives. Notes: I came on a Friday night around 6:30pm and it was packed inside with people waiting outside for their order. I maybe waited 10 mins after I ordered. Small take out pizza spot with a few bar top seating inside and 2 tables outside (it was wet and sprinkling). Worker was welcoming and helpful in providing recommendation. Workers in back were furiously working hard since they were only open 4pm-9pm. All my slices were $7 or less each. Great addition to UES with Detroit style pizza! Can't wait to come back for more.

Yelp
Daaaamnnnnnnn. UES getting up there with the pizza shop options lol. This is a great addition to 2nd. QUALITY Detroit slices for less than $8. Got the HOGWILD. Pepperoni, sausage, cheese and a cream sauce. Bomb! Staff is amazing and friendly as well.

Yelp
This spot is official they play rock songs lol. The owner seems to have done his homework on Detroit. A few pizza championships are showcased but let's get down to what you came here for. So I've tried a regular Detroit slice called a red top. It was authentic. The sauce was really good not too sweet not too salty the cheese was just right and gooey and the crust was soft and crisp at the same damn time .. definitely coming back for more

Yelp
Really great addition to the neighborhood! The crust is what sets this slice apart! It's perfectly crispy yet airy. The tomato sauce was slightly sweet and went well with the pizza. I got the honey cup slice and enjoyed the pairing of ricotta with the pepperoni! Would def go again
google avatar

CJ S.

Yelp
By far, the best pizza in the area. The hot honey slice is tasty, unique and well balanced. Frico gets the native NYer seal of approval!

Yelp
This place has the best pizza in the city! Must try!!! Also really friendly staff and great music :)

Yelp
I live around the corner so I've passed by a several times in the few weeks since they opened but today I went in... and now I'm wondering why I didn't go sooner. First of all, John and Layla were so friendly and sweet. We chatted while John warmed up my slice. I took it home and OMG. This pizza is next level!!! The crust has that perfect coating of crispy cheese that you always kind of hope for when you get pizza but rarely get, while the actual slice (the square Napoleon shape) is soft and pillow-y and out of this world. The taste, the texture... chef's kiss! But don't just take my word for it. There's a photo of Dave Portnoy enjoying his slice in their Florida outpost. Welcome to the neighborhood, Frico!

Yelp
I came in here with my husband, definitely a lot nicer than any city pizza spot we've ever seen in the city. They were friendly as soon as we walked in. I stood there for a while deciding what I wanted as there are a TON of options to choose from. They have regular slices and even Detroit style, and other food options as well! I ended up trying a couple Detroit slices, which is new to me and nothing I've ever seen over here. Well, I have to say, it was the BEST pizza I've ever had in my life. I also tried their cookie which was great as well. They do have tables and chairs you can sit at either outside or inside. And hanging on the walls are photos and trophies from having traveled all over the world from winning competitions - which I have to say it shows in the taste of their food. So, great service, food, atmosphere - 100% recommend. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Absolutely insane- comparable, actually better than Mama's Too. What a great add to the UES pizza scene! Great service and ambiance, mostly standing area to eat. Highly recommend!

Yelp
After a long doctors appointment we wanted to try this pizza place 2 minutes away from the hospital, but they were closed. My husband said let's try Frico! It's near the train station before we go home, I looked them up and it said "Detroit styled" which I've always wanted to try. So I said let's go! We're so glad the other Pizza shop was closed or we would've missed out on the deliciousness. Friendly staff, and the owner was soooo niceee, I love a business that makes you feel welcomed. We had the special of the week! Which was the Lemon drop, so delicious! I'm a simple person when it comes to pizza but I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try it and we were not disappointed! Crunchy, lightly sweet lemon but still savory. First time trying pesto and I'm in love! The Garlic knots were big and garlicky, 2 regular slice, 2 deep dish, and, the Bianca. Everything was delicious, but my fav will always be the Lemon drop until I try other specials. All in all I love this place already and I'll be back real soon or my husband will be back for the both of us.

Michael W.

Yelp
Absolutely great. No other slice on the upper east side (and maybe the city), has caramelized Parmesan cheese in the crust. It SLAPS! Can't wait to go back and try other slices.

Yelp
Pinocchio slice was tasty, freshly constructed and the perfect portion size. I would take care to ensure that they don't overheat as it's going to go from crispy to overly charred in a NY minute. Four stools inside, friendly cashier, 2 tables out front, a few drinks you don't see everywhere (Manhattan Special, albeit they were sold out). Minus a star for the loudness- neighborly energy is good but when the owner is talking very loudly about Florida with a couple and doesn't think to keep it shorter so they can help new customers, it's overbearing especially with a seating area of just 100 square feet and classic rock music pounding at you. This place is sure to become the favorite pizzeria of Fox News employees in no time. Good for a one-off novelty slice on par with Cello's on St. Marks. For a cheesier and more filling everyday square slice for $4, not $7, go to Jets nearby. Or you're about a mile from Pizza Collective to the west or Mimi's to the north but if you're in the E. 60s, this beats Two Boots for sure.

Yelp
Honey Cup square is one of the best slices in NY. Friendly service as well. 10/10 we'll be back

Charles M.

Yelp
I live a couple blocks away and have eaten here maybe a dozen times since they opened. Easily the best pizzeria in this neighborhood. Both the NY and Detroit style pies are great, but they are definitely doing something special with the Detroit style pies. The people who work here are also very nice. They clearly care a lot about the quality of the food they are serving. Hope to see this place stick around for many years.

Yelp
The absolutely best Detroit style in the Big Apple! We are transplanted Bew Yorkers now living in Florida, home to The Nona Slice House(the mother restaurant of Frico's). So happy that my NY family can enjoy these great dishes without having to fly down to Fla! Do not miss this place.

Laura J.

Yelp
A quarter of a mile from the 72nd Street Q subway station, you can find nearly a dozen places to get pizza. Yelp suggestions include Centro Pizza, Delizia 73, Donna Margherita, Famous Famiglia Pizzeria, Krave Pizza, Little Italy Pizza, Mariella Pizza, Numero 28 Pizzeria, Patsy's Pizzeria, Pizza Park and York Ave Pizza. All have their charms. Joining this group last month was Frico on Second, a takeout establishment that serves Detroit-style pizza with a frico crust. While the business has only been open since May 5, 2025, they already seem to have a following. Not only is the pizza is fabulous (pictures attached), the owners and staff are incredibly nice. There isn't much room to dine in but the frico squares, which are solid, transport well. Benvenuto Jamie, Anthony and the entire Frico crew!

Nicole H.

Yelp
I'm so happy this place came to the UES. Pizza is great and different than all the other places with their Detroit, made to order slides. All the slices I've tried have been amazing. The people there are also very friendly which is always nice. Totally recommend.

Jeremy K.

Yelp
So glad to have this addition in the neighborhood. Detroit style is the specialty, but the round pies are great too.

Jake R.

Yelp
i respect the effort, but this just wasn't it. i could see that the owner clearly cares about the food and that a lot of thought and effort was put into each slice, but effort does not equate to yumminess. the dough was gummy, chewy, and dense. the pizza was a chore to eat and my jaw and appetite were fatigued half way through eating one slice. the flavors also didn't quite work for me. the plain, with just tomato sauce and cheese, was too salty, greasy, and monotonous. i couldn't even finish the plain. the only slice i could finish was the ricotta and honey, which helped to mask the overwhelming monotony and greasiness. it felt like, to me, that the owner made some good focaccia once and had the idea to convert that dough into detroit style pizza. cool idea, but just not a good eating experience. give me a basic sicilian slice from a decent pizzeria any day over this. i think the owner, or anyone really, should take a trip to Low Fidelity in jersey city to try really phenomenal detroit style pizza. their dough is airy and pillowy and such a textural treat. i ate 4 slices and still wanted more. all the flavor combinations i tried were so well thought out and balanced and bursting with flavor.

Tod S.

Yelp
I'm addicted. This stuff is delicious. Crust is awesome. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Jesse S.

Yelp
Best pizza upper on the east side by far - also great at pizza spinning highly recommend

Adam S.

Yelp
Tiny new Detroit style pizza shop. Music was really loud but when The Doors, Mountain, and Deep Purple are what's coming through the speakers I dig it. It's festive and fun. Only a few stools to sit inside with 2 small outdoor tables. Very busy but service is quick and very friendly. There's an array of slices that all looked great. I wasn't looking for any meat this particular day and noticed a Pistach-I-Dew slice. White Detroit slice with toasted pistachio(had pistachio cream slice in Sicily that was great so went with this one),mildly spicy peppadew peppers enough for a little kick, finished with ricotta, hot honey and arugula. Felt like needed something a tad salty on this slice but tasted so fresh and delish! The dough was airy yet had a good chew. Def go back to try the red sauce slices with various meat and spicy toppings. Not sure how the whole pies hold up on takeout but a lot of people were picking up so that's a good sign! I'll be back!!! This is not a place to go if looking for a classic NY Slice.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
The pizza is very good! Detroit style is just different, BUT be aware it is overpriced. Plain cheese is almost $6, and a lot of their other slices are close to $7 or over that. Recommend trying it, but sadly overpriced where you can't go often.

Susan B.

Yelp
Great food. You can tell everyone is putting their hearts into everything The crispy cheese is fantastic

Xavier O.

Yelp
This place is new, but it has great potential! The staff are friendly and it all feels family run, making it a cozy place to sit down and talk with delicious Chicago style pizza. Overall, a lovely little place to chill. It will take the block by storm!

R M.

Yelp
I enjoyed my pizza, which was good quality. I prefer a round pizza with thin crust because the quantity of dough on this style pizza is not the proportion I desire most of the time. I wish they would offer round thin-crust pizzas in addition to their think ones because the UES doesn't have good pizzarias.
