The Frida Room - Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"When the usual french toast-tower spots in Lincoln Park are feeling a little tired, Frida Room is a good option to shake up your breakfast and brunch line-up. And it’s especially useful if you need a place for a large group. The vibrant, maximalist decorated space is full of bedazzled crosses, hearts, and various Frida Kahlo-related art pieces. Dishes like cheesy enfrijoladas, chilaquiles in tangy salsa roja, and huevos rancheros are all solid ways to get your egg fix. But if you still really want to get some french toast involved, their churro version dusted in cinnamon sugar and topped with cajeta makes a great brunch dessert (yes, every meal deserves to have a dessert)." - John Ringor

Excellent late Brunch on a Sunday with a party of 4 at 1:00pm. I've been to Frida Room in Pilsen and was excited to have a location closer in Lincoln Park. The space is open and modern with such a great ambiance, and the menu is delicious, creative!, and boasts a wonderful balance between Mexican and American dishes. They were pretty busy and the meals took a while, but it was well worth the wait and the service was good overall. Absolutely Love: Mexican Toast, Molletes, and the Azteca Coffee. Eager to try? The Art District Burger - (um excuse me, blueberry compote and strawberries with my beef? Sign me up!) - I'll update when I do! Seems to still be BYOB and charges a $15 "corkage fee" - though I think it's working on the liquor license - it has an excellent bar, so I do hope so. Lovely for brunch and lunch!

Frida room in LP is fantastic!!! I came hungry for Chilaquiles and was not disappointed. The sauce to chip ratio was superb and red/green sauce combination was a great choice. Based on how spicy the combined sauce, the red sauce on its own is probably pretty hot. My partner ordered the enfrijoladas and said "they were just super tasty and would get them again!". Both dishes we ordered were beautifully plated and we really enjoyed the coffee options!

I live in the neighborhood and had been wanting to check this out as it recently opened. Overall vibe inside was great for brunch, but the service left much to be desired. Felt like most of our time there we were just waiting on our server. Only half the tables were full, so feel like they just kept forgetting about us. Food was good, got the chilaquiles - have definitely had better, these were super soggy compared to what I usually get. Hopefully they get the service ramped up as would love to try and return for a better experience, a lot of potential here!

Food is delicious! We ordered the molletes and enfrijolados and both dishes were really good food. The hot chocolate also tastes authentic. Staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely going back!

Google
This place is great! Really good Mexican food, not many places can actually feel authentic but Frida Room really gives you that vibe. Lina was a great server and very attentive to our needs. Looking forward to coming back and trying new items on their menu.

We came in for a late breakfast on a Sunday.. Vibe is good. They have their liquor license now! The drinks were good. Food is beautiful, however their "premium NY steak" is anything but premium. Do not upgrade. Not worth it. Ruined the rest of my meal for me that actually was good. When I told my server about my steak he did nothing about it.

This restaurant was amazing! I had the most delicious breakfast here!! Very beautiful and unique interior, with nice employees. I’ll definitely go back and bring all my friends. At the end I want to mention it’s a bit pricey, like black coffee $4.5

Google
I loved the chicken chilaquiles! They are very authentic not the usual dry chips and salsa chilaquiles! By boyfriend had a breakfast sandwich and was very delicious as well. We topped it off with Mexican pancakes and were delicious! Price was worth it! I absolutely recommend.

Yelp
I couldn't decide if I wanted to give this place a 3.5 or 4, so I rounded up. My 4 friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch to check this restaurant out for the first time. We were attracted to the great variety of food items available. We also liked the beautiful decor. At the time, the online menu wasn't clear as to whether they served alcoholic drinks, but they did have an alcoholic drink menu available in person when we visited in May of 2024. My meal was good, but nothing about it was memorable. I don't get avocado toast at restaurants very often, but I've had some amazing ones at other restaurants where they really elevate the flavor and put their own spin on the dish. That wasn't the case at Frida's. I may need to give this another chance and try a different dish in the future.

Yelp
Frida Room opened in the neighborhood just two weeks ago. They serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. The food is authentic, delicious and I can't wait to go back. I started off with an Azteca coffee (a delicious blend of espresso, chocolate, cinnamon and chile - soooooo good). The Huevos Rancheros were perfection. I especially enjoyed the crispy tortilla. My friend had chilaquiles and we split an appetizer of Mexican Toast (like avocado toast, but better). The service was excellent and the owner, Angel, stopped by our table. This place is a standout in terms of food and overall experience. Right now it is BYOB, but the restaurant has a beautiful bar and is awaiting a liquor license. They take reservations (yeah) and we had no problem finding on street parking.

Yelp
Incredibly kind staff and amazing food! They know how to cook their steak (they will ask you how you want it--I got a delicious and juicy medium rare) and loved the Mexican breakfast items (literally can't go wrong with anything you choose). Refillable coffee service throughout. BYOB for now until they get their liquor license (though there is a BYOB charge that's listed on the menu). They are new and currently have $5 off and free coffee coupons they're giving away. Definitely check this place out. I've come back twice already and will be coming back again soon!

Yelp
I came here with a party of 7 shortly after opening. The atmosphere is airy and the decor is a modern take on Mexican. The menu has lots of options including Mexican dishes and traditional American. The food came out fast and it was delicious. The service is top notch. The woman that greeted and served us was a joy. Everyone in my group agreed this was a home run.

Yelp
Made reservations to the Frida room since my wife loves Frida. The place is small and very clean with a lot of Frida decor. The service is great and very attentive. My wife ordered the enfrijoladas with chicken and I tried a piece and wow delicious. It has like a cheese quesadilla stacked with a couple tortillas dipped in beans and has cheese on top and the eggs. Then the chicken with the enfrijoladas amazing touch. The Chivito sandwich is amazing as well it like a mini torta I would say but the taste is great. The chicken sandwich is good wasn't a fan of the white toast would be better on the chivito bread but still great taste. The meat lover's skillet was alright, the potato's lacked seasoning even salt and the ham had a flavor that tasted like ham gone bad so I didn't say anything I just didn't eat it. I will say the enfrijoladas were the best and the chivito sandwich. The chicken sandwich is not bad but just change the bread. I'm sorry but meat lovers wasn't good at all. The Aztec coffee is worth the price, it is very tasty and it has a kick of chili but and a tasteful way. The hot coconut latte so delicious worth the money. It tastes like the Mexican coconut cookies dipped in coffee. The horchata water tasted like the one you make from the little packs. Not recommended. I loved the decor on the walls and the super clean restaurant. The staff was super nice and the food was great. Even though I didn't like the meat lover's skillet and the horchata I'm still giving it a five star because the rest of the food was super delicious and the staff was amazing.

Yelp
I ordered the chilaquiles. The dish itself tasted amazing but was immediately soggy and did not look very aesthetically pleasing. The server who was refilling coffee was amazing and on it. She refilled my cup seconds after I finished the last one. Unfortunately our server was very slow and didn't really check in on us. It took a very long time to get the check and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Overall I really enjoyed the food and the ambience is unique.

The food and services are always good. This place is my go to spot when I want get breakfast. Always has a very chill vibe and the owner is very friendly

Yelp
This used to be The Hen, remember that? This is the second location here. The original is in Pilsen and I haven't been to that one. I had French Fries and they were very good.

Yelp
Possibly the best steak and eggs I've ever had. Absolutely amazing service, quick and friendly and very accommodating. Absolutely love the decor- perfect for people who Instagram. But mainly the food was so so so good; I even recommended it to people who walked by.

Patrick M.

Yelp
We enjoyed our breakfast/brunch at Frida's, the Mexican themed food items and friendly staff were definitely the standouts. We had three kids in our party and the manager was great in getting them coloring sets to keep them occupied. Additionally the kids menu was adequate for our needs of some basic breakfast items for the little ones. The reason for the four stars was that the service was slow and sporadic. We will return and hope to find that there will be additional servers helping with the brunch crowd.

Yelp
It is frustrating and disappointing. When you spend a lot of money for a meal that isn't good. That was my experience although the customer service was decent for what I spent I did not get my moneys worth. The chicken was cold. It lacked flavor so I had to get full off of Chips and salsa because I could not finish the meal. It was not enjoyable. I enjoy the atmosphere, but I will not be returning.

Markeya F.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was slow. Also the online menu is not accurate. The online menus has more beverage options for smoothies and coffee then they had in the restaurant. Overall it was a nice open location and was easy to get to.

John Bonnie O.

Yelp
Visited for Sunday brunch. Ambience is very creative and fun vibe. Service was vey slow and when our food arrived, it was cold. I might have loved my food more if it wasn't cold. The Huevos Rancheros were decent. I would go back again. Perhaps when it is not so busy.

Yelp
Dined at Frida Room for the first time today to have Breakfast. I ordered the Huevos A La Mexicana and my partner got the Meat Lovers Skillet. Both dishes were good and service was friendly. Overall I would recommend for a laidback brunch.

Yelp
Omg! I had the Burger (with strawberries & blueberries jam), bacon, and cheese. Wow loved it. Can't wait to keep trying more things as there were so many other plates that looked super yummy! Service was excellent & decor is beautiful. Definitely coming back for breakfast, lunch, dinner

Lorena M.

Yelp
Great food, good variety. Fresh and well balanced. Vegetarian options. Host and servers were attentive and nice! Ambiance feel modern but with a lot of traditional touches.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. The store front is beautiful inside and has huge open sliding doors that give on to the street. The staff is really friendly. They sat us down right away. Two waiters and a buser all came up to us to try and help so everyone was super eager which was nice. They even brought us a bowl of water for our dog. Unfortunately the quality of the food was the one big downside. I ordered a salad it was drowned in dressing, the spinach leaves were wilted and too many candied pecans overpowered what could have been an elegant healthy veggie option. We shared the queso fundido which was tasty but had cooled and congealed into a big chunk of cheese. My husband liked the carne asada tacos. I ordered the fajitas. There weren't a lot of veggie options. The veggies were overcooked and lacked flavor. The rice and beans were decent but again not very rich in flavor. Overall a nice place to be with great service and vibe but the food needs to be tightened up especially in Chicago in this neighborhood. There is so much good food that to stand out things have to be perfect.

Yelp
Really solid food. I ordered pick up during the week and it was ready when I arrived 20 minutes after ordering. The chilaquiles were very good. I also sampled the tacos. The steak was the highlight. Tender and juicy. Both of the chicken tacos were also very good. I look forward to trying their other dishes.

Nancy S.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant. But please do not read this review... as I want this restaurant all to myself. Service delightful. The food quite good. Start with the poppy seed dressing salad...then you must try the tinga and finish with flan.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
This place is delicious! Love the cozy atmosphere and decor too. Had breakfast dishes and they were best I've had in a long time. Highly recommended!!

Erik C.

Yelp
Update: reduced by one star due to three separate times that takeout orders had issues.

Laura J.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast and was very glad we did. We were sat immediately and treated with kind servers. They went above and beyond to ensure our big group was taken care of. The food was also delicious and seemingly authentic. Would definitely return!

Wyatt H.

Yelp
Had the chivito sandwich and the steak n eggs. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great! We're both a bit particular and we were both very happy with our meal. The coffee isn't half bad either!

Tania F.

Yelp
I am 9 1/2 years old and I came to eat at Frida Room with my family. I loved their beans (frijoles), their decorations, their fries, and they have 2 televisions.

Alyssa R.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick solo-brunch and HAD to write a review because their huevos rancheros we're so good! I'm not joking, maybe the best I've ever had in my life. The service was outstanding as well. If you're in the neighborhood - run, don't walk to Frida's Room!!!!!

Tom B.

Yelp
Delicious Mexican breakfast specialties. Great and friendly service. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Great new spot!! Fast service, fun atmosphere and delicious food!! Our waitress, Lina, was so sweet!! Highly recommend the BLTA and the breakfast burrito!
