Frida Room - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Frida Room has great Mexican and American breakfast classics, from strawberry-banana pancakes to enfrijoladas. But the real showstoppers here are the coffee drinks. They use a proprietary blend of slow-roasted Mexican and Columbian coffee beans that serve as a delicious base for hot and iced drinks with cajeta, coconut, cinnamon, Nutella, vanilla, or mocha. Enjoy your coffee on the sidewalk patio while waiting for your enchiladas con huevos. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The Frida Room Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"When the usual french toast-tower spots in Lincoln Park are feeling a little tired, Frida Room is a good option to shake up your breakfast and brunch line-up. And it’s especially useful if you need a place for a large group. The vibrant, maximalist decorated space is full of bedazzled crosses, hearts, and various Frida Kahlo-related art pieces. Dishes like cheesy enfrijoladas, chilaquiles in tangy salsa roja, and huevos rancheros are all solid ways to get your egg fix. But if you still really want to get some french toast involved, their churro version dusted in cinnamon sugar and topped with cajeta makes a great brunch dessert (yes, every meal deserves to have a dessert). Google
First time trying Frida Room and the food did not disappoint. It was delicious and ingredients were quite fresh! We didn’t have to wait too long (went in on a Monday around 10am) and our waitress was very considerate and kind. Portions were sized perfectly. We even had leftovers! Parking is difficult to find, however there is paid parking on the streets. Highly recommend using public transportation.

Google
Visited on Saturday night and the restaurant was quiet. Servers were prompt and friendly. We had traditional Mexican fare (rather than the Asia items on the menu) and thought they were great. A nice experience overall.

Google
Service was good, nice place but the food was not great. I ordered the chilaquiles which look nice but don’t taste great. I regret adding the chicken- that might have been what made it bad truthfully. Looks like fake chicken and it was very salty. My friend also ordered the chicken panini and she did not like.

Google
Very nice surprise. Was expecting a good brunch, but this was fantastic. Loved the decor and the Frida Kahlo theme. Staff was super nice and attentive, and the place was packed. Food came out quick, and was so good. Love the underlying Mexican theme/twists in the menu. Would definitely come back to try more dishes.

Google
despite over an hour wait (huge catering order), the staff was attentive, making sure coffee and anything else we needed was taken care of. Food was excellent when it came out, dare I say, it was Definitely worth the wait. Had a friend join me as my food was coming out, his order turn around was under 10 mins. Will definitely be back!

Google
A nice little place where you can enjoy a tasty coffee with friends. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was good and everything was brought out in a timely fashion. The place has nice decorations and paintings which add to the atmosphere.

Google
Service and food was great. Loved all the Frida decor. Gave cute café vibes. Will be coming back.

Google
Lunch was good but not great. I had the enchiladas in a tomatillo sauce with sunny side up eggs and my three table mates had molletes which they all enjoyed. While this place was fine, I would try another place next time we are in Pilsen. It was reasonably priced thought. It was $45/couple with tip.

Yelp
While in Chicago, we got a chance to check out rut Frida Room for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Not only does the Frida Room offer a great variety of top brunch choices for you to enjoy, but it has a plethora of mouth watering dishes from their famous chilaquiles, pancakes, panini's, not to mention the best hamburgers and enchiladas in Chicago. The Frida Room has the best Mexican American breakfast in Chicago. You really can't go wrong with anything off their menu, I kept it simple with the eggs any style, with the sausage links. The dish comes with potatoes and I also got sliced tomatoes and a English muffin. I loved that their potatoes was nice and crispy and the English muffin was grilled. Their breakfast burritos are really good as well. The service was really good as well, servers were very pleasant and attentive. They also keep the coffee and water coming. I love that they put cucumbers in their water, which was really refreshing. If I'm in the Pilsen neighborhood I will definitely return.

Yelp
A wonderful, beautiful restaurant with staff that goes above and beyond for the guests. All of the staff exudes kindness and compassion. They let us enter with a stroller and were helpful and willing to make accommodations to change tables in order to comfortably accommodate the stroller. They were attentive, ensuring that our coffee was refilled and checking up on us to make sure that we enjoyed the food. We already felt like the experience was perfect, but what made it even more special was the birthday celebration for my family member. The staff lovingly sang and brought out a plate of delicious pancakes. Our favorite part of the meal was the coffee options; I couldn't stop sipping from my café de olla. It was so flavorful and sweet, and it was enjoyable to drink without anything else mixed in. For food, we ordered the guacamole and chips, chilaquiles, and molletes. We liked the chilaquiles best with the verde sauce. We cannot praise this restaurant enough for such an enjoyable breakfast experience! So much gratitude to the kind staff who work so hard and made it so nice! I would recommend making a reservation because, as you can expect, it does get pretty crowded on the weekends!

Yelp
This restaurants was amazing! Came in for brunch and sat outside while the vintage fest was going on. We got onion rings for the table and I got chilaquiles verdes with steak and my friend got chilaquiles rojos with steak. The onion rings came right out and our chilaquiles came out maybe 10 minutes later. The green chilaquiles were spicy while the red were more mild. They were both very delicious. I love how authentic the food was!

Yelp
Delicious burgers, chilaquiles, French toast, drinks. 10/10. Waitresses are always nice and the vibes are always awesome.

Yelp
The Molletes with eggs was tasty but light and great to start my day mmm. The waitress was so friendly and always checking if I needed anything . What I really appreciated was that we were talking about the Molletes and she asked if that was the first time trying it? I said yes she said they added a twist to the traditional Molletes and if I don't like it please tell her and she would get me something else. I love trying new things and this was absolutely delicious and service was amazing. The decor and ambiance well the pics tell it all! I was so relaxed and comfortable! Great experience will be back

Yelp
Another place we recently went to for the second time in several years. We were in the neighborhood for packet pick up for a local race and we decided to give this place another shot. The decor is amazing. Everything was essentially amazing. It's such a cute place and sometimes there's a line going out the door because it's so crowded. Definitely go early!

Yelp
Service was great , the ambiance was inviting. The music made the mood more pleasant. The food was great.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early weekend breakfast in Pilsen. Fun decor (yes, you'll see Frida) and music. Friendly waitstaff. Carafe of cold cucumber infused water on the table was a nice touch to start. I got the Molletes, as I've never tried this dish before. It's described on the menu as an authentic dish from Mexico City - toast with refried beans, mozzarella, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and topped with sunny side up eggs (+$2). The dish is served with crispy and seasoned potatoes. I asked if it'd be possible to substitute fruit instead of the potatoes (would be ok with an upcharge) but was told no substitutions for this dish. This was pretty good at first! I liked the beans and the bright pico, and the drippy eggs. Definitely felt more "homestyle" than like a fancier breakfast. After a little bit though, it didn't taste as good cooled down (and the bread - a standard white bread - got soggy). The potatoes were good but overall the meal was very hearty and filling so I didn't finish them. Looks like they always put out their homemade red and green sauces on each table. They're made with Serrano peppers and tomatillo and are delicious! I especially liked the green sauce on the potatoes. The Azteca coffee is just as fun and good as it sounds. Coffee-y, chocolatey, cinnamon-y. It's thick and rich to be sipped on slowly.

Yelp
Was a beautiful morning and we sat outside. Food and coffee were really good. Service was very good as well. Would definitely come back. The vibe of the neighborhood was cool too.

Gloria D.

Yelp
Food is terrible! Specially the chicken. DO NOT...DO NOT ORDER THE POPPI SEED GRILLED CHICKEN SALAD! The chicken is hard like leather. And too pricy for that! NO CHIPS AND SALSA to welcome you! They only give you water. SERVICE is soso... they do what they are told. AMBIANCE is ok. BYOB

Yelp
Great place for a good filling breakfast! The potato's were delicious and I have to say this place has my favorite panini. The servers were super kind and provided great service. I walked in and my party was sat immediately which is always a huge plus. Their café de olla was perfect!

Yelp
As a chef and die-hard foodie, I KNOW how to pick good restaurants. It's like all these years of eating and cooking deliciousness, I've developed a fail-proof technique. So when Frida Room appeared on my radar, i knew I had to go. I went solo on a weekday morning to avoid the crowd. The only thing I knew I absolutely wanted was a cafecito, which I realize is a Cuban coffee, but I was certain Frida Room had something similar. And boy, did they. The description of the Cafe Azteca looked just like the jump start I needed, so I ordered one straight-away. And it got my engines roaring. After carefully pouring over the entire menu, I chose the Chilaquiles Companeros with steak. This hearty meal, with delicious fried tortillas with smothered in a dreamy salsa verde with refried beans, scrambled eggs with queso fresco, tender steak and ALL the apropo accoutrements--avocado, sour cream, cilantro and onions. Nirvana. This place is just a total vibe. Gorgeous artwork featuring, da-da-da-daaaaaa, yep...Frida Kahlo, adorned every wall. Super-attentive servers and a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere makes you feel part of a family. Perfect for solo dining, date brunch and group outings. I love this place. Yeah...definitely go!

Yelp
Heard a lot of positive things about Frida's room in pilsen and decided to give it a try. My friend and I enjoyed our Mexican breakfast meals. I ordered molletes, she ordered enchiladas and they were amazing. I would recommend this spot to anyone in the area. I did notice it's a bit small inside so maybe not the best for big groups, however I'm sure they'll accommodate you.

Liana K.

Yelp
Ambience small quaint restaurant on a nice neighborhood block, family vibe, Spanish vibe. Service excellent. Food was good quality and tasteful. I loved the half order of French toast. Blueberry strawberry banana smoothie, nice big size and thick but light at the same time. I customized my moletes order! But my girlfriend who is originally from San potosi Mexico told me the bread should be toasted well and unfortunately the bread here was more soft and they scrambled my eggs instead off sunny side but it was basic seasoning on eggs, and probably would like less portion of eggs on the bread. I would return when I come back to Chicago. Saturdays are busier mornings but the staff, servers and host all work together and make it quick turn around for tables to be available!
google avatar

Beth B.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast this weekend and the food was great! We got the breakfast enchiladas and the chilaquiles and everything had great flavor! The coffee was also great! We will be back.
google avatar

Guadalupe G.

Yelp
Their breakfast enchiladas with the addition of steak is so flavorful and hearty. So much cheese, you won't ask for more. You will be satiated to your heart's desire! Pair with a Cajeta latte (a little on the sweet side so maybe ask for less Cajeta syrup pumped into it) for a balanced brunch. Their Chilaquiles are OK - nothing special and the salsa on the Chilaquiles was mediocre. The staff said their Chilaquiles is equally as popular as the enchiladas but I don't know how -- the enchiladas definitely take the cake. Atmosphere -- lovely and lively! Nice for two and lively enough for a group. Love the open windows during the summer months! Outdoor seating is meh -- not the greatest considering how small and rickety the tables are, in addition to the very small sidewalk he patio furniture is set upon.

Yelp
The Service is great. Always accommodating guest. Clean and well kept. Very stylish and good atmosphere and tranquil ambient. Food is also great. Plates are well organize and portions are normal. Family friendly too. The Waitress Jaramillo J is an awesome waitress she went out her way to customize a drink for my daughter. I greatly recommend this Restaurant Frida.

Yelp
This was a great find! Was in the area for some business and we decided to stop for a bite. They have street parking, but at the time, it was pretty clear, so it was no problem. Service was fast and hospitable I had some delicious churro French toast and a strawberry horchata! Was a great combo! I will go back for sure!
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
A little 5 year update... the food was good and flavorful. The have a small patio outside ..perfect for this summer weather. Not a long wait. Service was great. I wanted to try various toppings for my pancakes such as cajeta and leche condensada and they were so nice about the request.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
There are a lot of restaurants that are similar to this one in Pilsen, but that's ok! The staff was friendly and the food was good. I didn't have a chance to take a picture, as I dug in to it so quickly! But my friend had Chilaquiles and I had enchiladas. The enchiladas are traditional-style, with cojita cheese and a lot of sauce (swimming in sauce). I enjoyed the art and general vibe of the restaurant.
google avatar

Gilberto G.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant this weekend with family, would definitely be coming back. To start the place is nicely decorated and fits the ambiance of "Frida." Food was super tasty and their coffee was delicious! Service was also great and everything come out in a timely manner! Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice brunch spot, especially for the right price!
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
good outdoor patio space! food is pretty good, liked the Mexican style brunch. The strawberry horchata is pretty good too. My daughter wanted some paper to do some coloring, and they really went above and beyond by printing some Frida-themed coloring sheets
google avatar

Elsa G.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Saturday for brunch. It was very busy and we had to wait 30 mins for a table. The staff was very nice regardless of how busy they were. After finally getting our table, we ordered the chivito sandwich and the chilaquiles verdes along with orange juice and an iced caramel latte. Everything was so good but the latte had a weird after taste. I would for sure come back, maybe when it's not as busy and I really want to try a few other items.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Amazing service. Delicious food. We shared a meat lovers skillet and the French toast. We loved everything.
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Came here for brunch a while ago and really enjoyed the chilaquiles verdes that i ordered. I live in the neighborhood and like ordering coffee from different locations and was very pleased to learn they have great coffee to go options. They had a variety of drinks and make it very easy and quick to order. Other places can have extensive lines so it was nice to find a coffee alternative a little less visited. Staff is always super friendly here, while I recommend calling ahead for a reservation especially if you have a larger group the patio outside is really nice during the summer. The interior has so much beautiful artwork it definitely makes for great pictures. I'm sure I'll find myself back here soon
google avatar

Yelp
Super cool and super busy spot in the Pilsen area. We were seated outside under a big umbrella. It was raining a bit but not too bad. Service was great the food was really good. I got scrambled eggs and bacon with an up charge for fruit. I didn't get any bread or potatoes. Husband got an omelet , toast and potatoes. Food was good and in a great area.
google avatar

Dinora D.

Yelp
Loved the space, and the food was super good! Ordered the chilaquiles which were amazingggg! They had the perfect amount of salsa, not too spicy, lots of flavor! Heads up, the chile de árbol salsa they bring to the table is on the spicy side, but oh so good! Definitely try them out!
google avatar

Elana T.

Yelp
I greatly enjoyed Frida's room. I the decor was very homey. I had the Tres Leches y Strawberry French toast! Absolutely amazing. Not too sweet. I've had Tres leches French toast at other establishments but this by far was the best!
google avatar

Mara F.

Yelp
Breakfast so good that we went back again the next day! Service with a smile in a sunny, cozy atmosphere. Fresh ingredients and substantial portions. We loved the avocado omelette, as well as the spinach, mushroom and goat cheese omelette. The homemade pumpkin muffins were delicious too! Highly recommend!

Nailea R.

Yelp
Good service. Good coffee. Busy place. Pricy but for the experience and quality of the food seems worth it.
google avatar

Corina S.

Yelp
The sandwich was so tasty and the perfect size. Love that there is a variety of options for your side dish - the house potatoes were great! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The menu has many different options for breakfast and lunch. I recommend getting there early - we left around 10:00 and it was starting to get busy! The atmosphere is great and cozy.
google avatar

Raul M.

Yelp
Big fan of their chilaquiles verdes, they are delicious with a nice kick to them. Their bistec a la mexicana is also one of my favorites from here. I've been there a few times with family and everyone enjoyed the food. Serving sizes are ample, great service, and decor. The only things are that it's a small place and pricing is up there but worth it for a once in while treat. Still looking forward to trying some more of their dishes, like their carne en su jugo.

Deepam P.

Yelp
The Chilaquiles were amazing!!! The Service was very quick and unbeatable!! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for mexican brunch!
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
Great chilaquiles and coffee. The decor is very nice with great art featuring Frida and other Mexican characters. Our server was very friendly. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Justin P.

Yelp
My wife and I always go here for brunch. Atmosphere and vibe are so relaxed and the employees are so polite and friendly. Recommended for sure!. Los cocineros tienen las recetas al punto nunca fallan. 100% must go. Small menu but it's for a reason and that's to focus on making sure the food is great!. Thank you Angel for A great restaurant.
google avatar

Jose C.

Yelp
We came here for brunch and absolutely loved it. We were immediately given a table upon arriving and was offered coffee as soon as we sat down. The dining area is small and cozy, decorated with some lucha libre stuff, but more importantly, some Frida Kahlo Art. My son ordered their half order of French toast, while the wife and I ordered their Chilaquiles, Rojas and verdes. They came with a side of eggs and beans. The red Chilaquiles came with fried tortilla chips covered in their chipotle red sauce. It was topped with Mexican sour cream, queso fresco and cilantro. I just wished the sauce would be served hot rather than at room temperature. The chipotle sauce tasted amazing with the rest of the dish. Chips were crispy and it was a very filling dish. The service here was phenomenal. Everyone was very attentive and had smiles on their faces, despite what was about to happen. Can't wait until everything comes back to normal so I can return and dine in.
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
Such a great space. Not sure why the staff at a vintage shop told us to walk to 5 Rabanitos when this place was closer. Husband had the molettes, which he loved and I had the vegetarian panini, which was great. Kid had the chicken panini, which he liked. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I regret nor ordering something else. I feel like I would have been better off with the molettes or the enchiladas, but alas, maybe next time.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
I can not say enough amazing things about FRIDA DE NOCHE. This was a great tasting menu, from Mexican dishes elevated to a 5 star establishment. Angel and his Chef Orozco have placed their stamp for exquisite food in Pilsen. Love Pilsen for everything that it offers, but tacos and margaritas become repetitive in this community. Frida DeNoche is a breath of fresh air in Pilsen. Great job guys!
google avatar

Itzel G.

Yelp
It's a modern Mexican cuisine hot spot. Decor is adorable! People are nice and attentive! Food is good. Went for my moms birthday brunch....we got BYOB service. It was $23. We had a little bit of everything, kids had the sweet side of breakfast with pancakes and all types of topping. Us adults had the more savory side. For a total of 9 people we paid about $200. Wasn't bad, considering it was a bunch of us.
google avatar

Miguel M.

Yelp
We arrived to this place for the second time and this time was during the week so not so busy. Our server was polite, nice and bilingual. Ordered the Aztec coffee and it was a bit sweet, spicy but good. The skillet, enchiladas, pancakes were very good. The plate size is great, not too much and not so little. I like the decor and music. It was a nice experience, they do offer outdoor seating. Paid parking on the street. Will come back.

Heidi S.

Yelp
While I haven't actually eaten here, I have gotten delivery on a number of occasions. I love the veggie skillet and the eggplant panini in particular. Highly recommend getting the fruit cup as a side - always very fresh!
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and great vibes. Had never been there before so I wasn't sure what to order. our waitress was really helpful with us to select the perfect meal. the food was delicious. I highly recommend the Azteca coffee it was wonderful. next time we're in Chicago we are going to be stopping there again.
google avatar

B G.

Yelp
Stopped by and was greedy so I bought the chilaquiles rojos and they were delicious! I also bought the poppy seed strawberry chicken salad and I believe it had dark and white meat so I'm only rating it good because I don't like dark meat. The rest of the salad was delicious. I'll definitely be returning to try out the rest of the items.
google avatar

Katerina R.

Yelp
I'm not usually a breakfast person but I decided to try and come on a Sunday morning. I was able to get seated pretty quickly which was nice, and the staff were great! It was a really fun environment with Spanish music playing to get your energy up and feel awake. They had really good variety of food options from traditional breakfast options to a Mexican style breakfast. I got the enchiladas and they were great! My friend got the steak and said it was perfect. Prices were also spot on for what you got. I'd recommend this cute neighborhood spot!
google avatar

LeShonne S.

Yelp
Went here for brunch with my sister. This place is really cute, and their chilaquiles are bomb! I def recommend it for a cute lunch spot with friends.
google avatar

Allyn T.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Mexican food for breakfast. I highly recommend this place. The place was nicely decorated inside. Waiter had good customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
Bonito y acogedor lugar Buena comida !! La mesera y el resto de las personas que nos atendieron fueron muy amables . Frida fan !!!
google avatar

Jesus T.

Yelp
What an absolutely vile experience. I live just a few blocks away, and for a while now I've been wanting to give them my business but I'm so disgusted with what I received. What I ordered via Uber Eats: a chicken panini. What I received: flavorless chicken (no salt. At all), raw mozzarella, thick cuts of onion and tomatoes. All between two slices of the soggiest (not grilled but had grill marks?) bread ever. Also, lol, some of the fries were raw?????? Y'all, heads up you need to actually cook and season your food. Huge disappointment and not coming back.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
This little breakfast/brunch spot a great addition to Pilsen! I've been wanting to try it out for a while now and finally brought my butt in, lol. I immediately loved the restaurant's ambiance - from the music playing, the decor, the open windows, the bar in the back, and just the buzz you feel when you walk in. We went on a Saturday early afternoon and was surprised to be seated fairly quickly. The food was pretty solid. We had the chilaquiles and pancakes - both very tasty dishes! (Although I didn't care for their version of scrambled eggs.) The juice was really good, but its BYOB so don't expect any mimosas unless you bring your own bubbly.
