The 15 Best Restaurants In Durango, Colorado - Durango - The Infatuation

"Frida’s has the food, drinks, and atmosphere for an excellent night out—and thanks in part to their margaritas and tequila menu, it’s always a bit of a party. The menu is big and includes mole enchiladas and the spicy camarones a la diabla, and an à la carte street taco menu for the decision paralysis crowd who’d prefer to just try a bit of everything. In case you haven’t already guessed, this is a popular spot for groups, so time your visit wisely. The front parking lot fills up fast, but there’s an overflow lot just behind the restaurant that almost always has space." - kristin smith

If you’re hunting for truly authentic, flavor-packed Mexican food in Durango, stop scrolling and GO to Frida’s! Hands down, this is the best Mexican food I’ve tasted so far — and believe me, I’ve tried plenty! The moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by the cozy, vibrant atmosphere — colorful walls, art that makes you smile, and the warm, inviting energy that makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place where your first thought is, “Okay, we’re in for something special.” Now, the food? Incredible. Every bite bursts with rich, authentic flavors that instantly transport you to the heart of Mexico. From perfectly seasoned tacos to mouthwatering enchiladas and fresh, zesty salsas — everything is cooked to perfection. You can literally taste the love in every dish. Heads up though — parking fills up FAST. But that’s because so many people know just how good this place is! It gets busy, but totally worth the wait. Honestly, I’d park down the block and walk and ended up order to go. So if you want real-deal, delicious Mexican food in a cozy, colorful spot with a fun vibe — Frida’s is the place. Just show up hungry and maybe bring some patience for the parking lot or walk in orders 10/10 —

I was excited to try this Mexican Restaurant after reading the reviews. I will say it was delicious. I had the enchiladas and the red sauce was amazing. The salsa was great, tasted fresh. My husband had the birria quesadilla which was good. Just make sure to add the pickled onions which added much needed heat. Don't order the queso, its made from Velvetta cheese which was disappointing. Otherwise, I was quite happy with my experience. Staff was attentive and kept the drink refills coming.

Google
We had a couple of margaritas here and an appetizer and really enjoyed ourselves. Lalo your server was fantastic. He checked on us from time to time and we had some really nice conversations with him. He seemed like a really nice kid. I think we'll be back on the 2nd half of our trip.

Google
Had high hopes for Frida's after craving Mexican food for 2 weeks. Service was great but food was not. The queso, or as I refer to it the bowl of bowel blockage, was terrible. Street tacos were fairly tasteless. We'll skip Frida's next time we're in Durango.

Food was fast and fresh great customer service tabels were bused when needed to extra sauces and beautiful artwork .

Google
loved this place on our Durango visit. food was good but the service and attitudes were even better. hostess was friendly and engaging with the kids, drinks were spot on and the ambience was delicate and original. so nice to not eat at a dime a dozen Mexican restaurant. thanks for the good times!!

Google
Frida’s was a really good Mexican restaurant. Service was good. Margaritas were big. Restaurant felt super familiar but in a good way. Menu was vast and gave plenty of options while portions were good in food didn’t leave you feeling regretful after. Parking can be a little bit difficult but everything about the restaurant was great. Definitely recommend over some of the price here more touristy restaurants downtown.

Google
My favorite spot in Durango! The grilled chicken asada is a must, and the coin margarita is one of the best in town. I’ve made this my go-to place — great food, great vibe, and always consistent. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Being from Phoenix, we've eaten at a lot of really great Mexican restaurants... my husband said his entree was possibly the best he's ever had! (a steak & shrimp burrito with enchilada sauce) I had a crispy shredded beef taco and it was also up there, flavor wise! After a few days of brewery food, we needed a change of cuisine, but did not expect that Mexican food in Colorado would end up being our favorite meal in Durango! First bowl of chips & salsa are on the house, and delish. We had a team of a couple servers and they were both super helpful with both cocktail and food recommendations. We love a good cheese crisp, and we were surprised to see one on the menu. It was smaller than what you'd get in AZ, but pretty good. Kids bean & cheese burrito was yummy, too. The hostess fist bumped my kids as we entered. We love a good vibe! All the Frida (& Selena!) decor was so fun and festive, even down to the tabletops, menus and restrooms. We will definitely go back next time we visit Durango!

Yelp
Conveniently located on Main it's casual, comfortable and family friendly. We walked over from the La Plata County Faigrounds. Chips, salsa and coleslaw were excellent and bottomless. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. All our food was hot, tasty and beautifully presented. It's budget friendly too! We will return.

Yelp
Great New Mexican cuisine from start to finish. Family of four and my wife and I really, really enjoyed our meal. This place has a locals vibe and you can tell that everyone loves this place. Solid and friendly service complements better than average drinks and fantastic food. Looking forward to our next trip to Durango for another meal.

Yelp
We tried this Mexican restaurant on our first visit to Tucson. Four of us had dinner there two of us ordered drinks from the bar, which were very good and on point. The staff was friendly and efficient, and they brought us complementary nachos and actually make the salsa fresh at your table . We each ordered something different and we all fully enjoyed our meals which came promptly and we're very hot and fresh tasting.. we would certainly return their on our next visit

Yelp
Frida's was recommended by a local hiker...this place did NOT disappoint! Fantastic Margaritas and superb street tacos! But, oh the calamari!! (MY favorite!) Clean establishment and friendly staff. Frida's is definitely on my "saved" list!

Yelp
Wonderfully friendly and vert attentive staff. We enjoyed the Serafina's Chicken Molé (excellent homemade molé) and Enchiladas De Camarón (loads of shrimp!). Both are stunningly tasty! Nicely presented too. Be sure to check this place out!

Yelp
This was our best meal in Durango. We sat outside on a lovely September evening. Our mezcalitos were delicious but very potent. My mole enchiladas were wonderful -- it's great to get real homemade mole. My companion ordered shrimp, chicken, and mahi-mahi tacos and loved them. We were too full for dessert but they looked good.

Yelp
Three of us came for a late dinner about a week ago, and they were able to seat us almost immediately. Fun place with nice decor, but pretty loud which makes it hard to carry on a conversation. The chips and salsa were wonderful, plentiful and eased the wait for our dinners. Everyone raved about their meal. I had the chile relleno nogada (see photo) which I have also ordered at several other restaurants, but this is the best version I've had. The filling was very flavorful and the white sauce was delicious. I finished every spec. This place gets busy, so either go during off-peak hours or expect a wait. Try the tacos...

Yelp
Fridas food is good (4star). Service is better (5star). I liked the experience and would go again.

Yelp
There were 4 tables available just needed cleaning and nobody seemed to get their act together to clean! Never returning or sending anyone here! Manager you should be aware this is unacceptable!

Yelp
Recommended by a local. We are from the Phoenix area and have lots of Mexican restaurants to choose from. This place is the real deal. Fantastic food great service and delicious drinks. We always stop here when we're in town. Raymundo was our waiter and is excellent.

Yelp
Excellent service, clean tile floors, cute decor, and delicious food. It's no wonder this place has a 4.7 rating. We went twice in a week when driving to and from Colorado through Durango. The service is very good with multiple people checking on you and delivering orders, checking on the meal, filling water, getting more chips etc. When I ordered the wrong drink thinking it was on the rocks and it came out frozen they replaced it with a different one, no extra charge and no attitude on their end as if I was putting them out. The menu is quite extensive and all of the flavors are very solid. If you're in Durango, you should definitely try it.

Yelp
My favorite place! I don't order much , but stuffed avocado or street taco are my go to. It's always busy for a reason. The food is good. I don't do margaritas but the beer is cold and the wine is a good pour. What more do you need?

Chuck T.

Yelp
Visited Frida's during our visit to Durango. We love trying different Mexican restaurants wherever we go to experience the difference. Queso Fundido is different everywhere and this was some of the best (with Chorizo). Tamales were excellent, reportedly made in house! The wait staff were very friendly. Would recommend.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
Food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, and our server was top-notch! I highly recommend this restaurant. also, the decor is very festive.

Yelp
Came during peak dinner hour so it was a small wait for our large group. Ordered drinks at the bar while we waited and they were delicious. Once seated, Tony our waiter was awesome. Chips n salsa arrived quickly and were awesome! Drinks and food ordered after a few minutes...he was able to accommodate a food request and I was grateful. Drinks came quickly and food arrived even faster. The burritos were not what I'm used to; typically they're tightly wrapped so they can be handheld...these were not that. Still delicoso but just not easy to eat. Totally awesome meal topped off when Tony "entertained" my 9yr old and made her a napkins rose. Super cute and ended the meal on a high note. Will return for sure!

Yelp
I'd been talking ab out trying Frida's since their building changed hands and since Nayarit can't get an order correct - ever. We tried the Asada, a Burrito and Enchiladas and I asked specifically for them to not take the Asada past medium and the entree and the Buritto had perfectly cooked Asada which is normally cooked far past well-done and is dry as a consequence. Frita did a great job on the Asada and although their tortillas were some of the best I've had, they got very soggy from the red sauce and the subsequent texture was unpleasant, The Asada was cooked nicely but lacked flavour as did the chicken. There was a nice bite but the sauce was also all bite and it lacked flavour. It was a very expensive meal that sadly left me craving good Mexxican food but everybody at the restaurant seemed happy and the employees were very friendly, especially the bartented. Please try Frida's and I hope that your experience warrants a five star rating but the food left me craving Chipotle which is way down in Farmington.

Yelp
Very Friendly people. Great atmosphere Fast service The guacamole is excellent with tomatoes and cilantro and fresh avocados I tried the chile rel. never had one before. Delicious

Jerry H.

Yelp
The food, drinks and service are always good. The only bad thing is finding parking. The lot is small so we try to arrive at an off hour when the restaurant is not so busy. Thing is, it's a good restaurant so it's always busy.

Truth T.

Yelp
The food is always good as well as the service. Ambiance is authentic. Quaint little Mexican restaurant with outdoor seating. Margaritas are great. A must try!

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food here! service was great and fast. just gonna be honest, I'm slightly obsessed with Frida Khalo, so that part got me!

Yelp
Best Mexican restaurant in town Food is amazing, great atmosphere and the best service .

Enrique Q.

Yelp
The Good: Food was very flavorful. Portions were good. Ambiance was nice with artwork Drinks were good and unique The Bad: Drinks could have had a little less ice and more drink. Habanero salsa lacked flavor The Ugly: The hostess was ignorant and not knowledgeable with Federal ADA guidelines about service dogs. A male server was rude, ignorant and also not knowledgeable with Federal ADA guidelines about service dogs. He was forcing us to have to sit outside and it wasn't rectified until I asked to speak to a manager. I asked to speak to a manager twice and a manager never came. Very poor customer service. The only reason I gave this restaurant one star was because of the staff. I went there with my service dog, we asked for a table for six and the hostess asked for his service dog ID. I told her and the male server that my service dog does not require an ID. This is when the male server started to get rude and persistent that I have to sit outside with my service dog. I tried to explain he is allowed everywhere I go and it fell on deaf ears. Although the food was amazing the staff drastically brought down their rating with me. DO BETTER Educate your staff with Service Dog ADA guidelines and what questions they can ask. You will get better feedback from customers.

Yelp
Just got into town and hungry for dinner. I had the best enchilada and crispy chicken taco in a long time. The enchilada sauce was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Plan well, this place gets crowded but it is worth it. There is lots of seating, large bar area, back area and a sweet outside patio, also some seating in the parking area right outside the main entrance but that is not my favorite. Parking is limited. Service is fast and staff is very nice. A colorful lit bar area with walls decorated mostly with murals of frida kahlo's art. Drinks are tasty and a good size. Everything i have tried is made well and fresh. A favorite of mine is the dinner platter carne asada or carnitas. I also love the fajitas, tamales, burritos and street tacos. I have made a little piggy of myself but the food is good so i keep going back. :D

Yelp
Chile nogada...now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Didn't expect to see that on a roadside spot in Durango, Colorado, but it was a must-order, and it delivered. The seafood items on the menu looked interesting too. I wouldn't recommend this place for your standard taco-rice-beans plate--you can get better stuff on a truck--so try something out of the ordinary. The classic standard margarita with silver tequila, lime, and Cointreau is very good, though.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Amazing carne asada! Got here late and they were gracious to seat us anyway. 10:30pm. Friendly, great service and great food!!!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Absolutely the best carnitas I've had in years. (Carnitas Uruapan in Tijuana and those my Tía made are the only better!) Service and Margaritas were great too!

Allison L.

Yelp
I had the carne asada plate for the first time. DELICIOUS. My new favorite dinner. My husband had the seafood burrito, also very good. Had a delicious mango margarita. Very good service. We also felt reasonably priced.
google avatar

Yelp
Immediately Greeted and sat with a smile. The place was poppin and we were still served drinking in record time. Waitstaff has their rhythm down to a T. Chips were made fresh salsa fresh and delicious. Food was piping hot and made with care and detail. This was definitely a spot we will never miss when coming through Colorado ! Well Done
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service. Warm , friendly and courteous. We were amazed at how the manager took the time to explain the kitchen was busy and kindly asked for patience. Our food came out in a timely fashion. The salsa was warm and bursting with flavor. Both the green the red and the taco sauce. The tacos Al pastor were loaded with tender pork mixed with pineapple and lettuce! Home run , triple double and a hat trick. Lol. Just amazing food . My wife's burrito was stuffed with beans, chicken and rice. Phenomenal! This is a great place with a wonderful vibe. Very laid back . You feel welcome an at home.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Kevin was our waiter, and he was awesome. My girlfriend had the chicken mole enchiladas with rice and beans. Excellent mole! I had Burrito Mar Y Tierra ( steak and shrimp), with rice and beans. Excellent! Highly recommended! We will be back.
google avatar

Rob F.

Yelp
Solid 5 for excellent food, friendly service and a very nice outdoor seating. The tacos (hard shell) are the best. The enchiladas are great and the appetizer bean dip with chorizo is a meal in itself. I had a Cadillac margarita and my wife had the jalapeño. They are very large! We have 27 Mexican restaurants in our home town in Ca. This blows them away.
google avatar

Anne H.

Yelp
The service was excellent and so were the margaritas. The food is pretty good and I would recommend any of their seafood dishes. Ambiance is really nice.
google avatar

Laurie T.

Yelp
Service was friendly, frequent and very good! The food was enjoyed by all. The enchiladas are very good and the mole sauce is outstanding! The prickly pear margaritas were possibly the best we've ever had--as good as The Shack in Santa Fe! The Nogada was outstanding. Everything we had was really good and we all have a love for Mexican food!
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
The service was wild - like something was not fully right with the staff. Just totally spaced out (trying hard not to make any assumptions/accusations here). The food was subpar at best and especially for the price did not meet our expectations at all.
google avatar

Tony G.

Yelp
Exceptional food at Frida's. My go to tests Are the chips and salsa (fresh!!), chilies rellenos and a tamale. They were excellent. We also had the carne Asada which was tender and flavorful. Drinks were well portioned. We had Very caring and courteous service from the crew. The inside is rather plain but functional. Can be a bit chilly by some of the window seats. Get there early as the parking is a bit of a nightmare.
google avatar

Barb G.

Yelp
No green Chili but the red sauce was great! Would go again in a heartbeat. Good Tamales and Shrimp enchiladas.
google avatar

Peggy H.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous. I had the ala carte crispy Relleno and my friend had the street taco's. Best relleno i ever had. Prices seemed very reasonable. Well cared for restaurant.
google avatar

Jean E.

Yelp
Amazing customer service. The food was excellent. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Frida's staff for an outstanding restaurant experience.
google avatar

Kaci P.

Yelp
Came with my husband on a Monday evening around 6:00 pm. Parking is limited and at times can be hard to find a space. The place was packed. However, we were immediately seated inside. There were several wait staff - probably only a couple tables per staff member. We wanted to sit outside on the cute patio because it was loud inside due to so many people, but it was pouring down rain. Our waiter was nice, but we didn't see him much. The place was clean and the decor was neat. The house margaritas on the rocks with salted rims were tasty, but nothing over the top. Same with our food, it was just okay at best. My pork was really greasy and my husband's fajitas were just average for a Mexican restaurant. We were not fans of the chunky salsa and they did not serve cheese dip. We have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants all over the US and this just wasn't it for us. We left full, but not completely loving it.

Joycee F.

Yelp
Service was grade A. Tony was our waiter, he wanted our experience to be a good one. Very attentive. Food was great.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
First time here, excellent! Between the four of us we had the; civichie/avacado, carnitas, begins fajitas and chicken mole enchiladas. All were very, very good. Drinks were also made very well. Service was great. Next time we pass through Durango we will definitely be back.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
When you drive into Durango you wouldn't think the place would have good Mexican food (depending on where you're from). Pulling into the small parking lot and seeing it completely full I thought damn there's going to be a long wait time. Nope, it was busy but we got right in. The chips and salsa were your typical salty chips and salsa. The margaritas were off the hook (we got the guava). The enchiladas and tamales were bomb! I didn't want them to end. It was one of those meals where you are completely full but it taste so good you keep stuffing your face. Overall very glad we came and it lived up to the hype.

Cynthia H.

Yelp
We took the chance on this after a long day on the train from Durango to Silverton and back. Needless to say we were very hungry. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service. I enjoyed the tacos and my husband had the chicken pollo. The chips were hot and the salsa was delicious. The bartender was very busy but kept checking on us throughout our meal.
google avatar

Alison B.

Yelp
We are fairly picky eaters when it comes to Mexican food and Frida's is TOP NOTCH. It's the BEST Mexican food in Durango if you're looking for a full-menu Mexican dining experience. Not only that, the staff are totally awesome. They are friendly, helpful and give terrific ideas on what to order. It's always busy here because it's worth the wait. BE PATIENT - wait for the table and fight for the parking spot. I promise you, it's worth it.
google avatar

Rachel Z.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken enchilada and it tasted like fish. My husband ordered a chimichanga and it was loaded with cheese. The bill was overpriced, margaritas were $15 and tasted really really bad. The server asked us how everything was, I said OK and he said great and walked away. Asked for spicier salsa and they said I had the spicy salsa. Queso looked like slime and so thick you can't put it on chips. Won't go back.
google avatar

Keri M.

Yelp
I loved my lunch here. The chips were warm when they arrived with a red mild salsa and a bowl of pickled cabbage with onions and jalapeños. That was so good I got a second bowl. I ordered the crispy rellenos which were nice. All in all it was a delicious meal and I'd return again to try something new.

Alison H.

Yelp
Trust me I'm from Texas!!! This place was insanely good. Honestly we were afraid to try Mexican food outside of our tried and true places in Texas. This rivals the very best. Highly recommend street tacos - Al pastor!!! Fresh homemade tortillas and chips! Amazing salsa but the hidden gem was the tomatillo salsa that came out with the street tacos. I'd order that with the chips next time we are here. 10/10 Frida!!! You're a hit!!!
