Friendly’s Has Been Sold to a Connecticut-Based Investor Group | Eater Boston

"A long-established New England restaurant chain founded in 1935 by brothers S. Prestley Blake and Curtis Blake, this once-beloved brand became known for its burgers, patty melts, grilled cheese sandwiches and extensive ice cream creations. After changing ownership multiple times (notably a 1979 sale to Hershey Foods), the chain struggled in recent years, filing for Chapter 11 and shrinking from more than 500 locations a decade ago to roughly 130 franchised and corporate sites today, with over 300 closures in the past decade. The business’s retail ice cream and manufacturing arm had been sold separately in 2016 for $155 million to Dean Foods. Most recently, the restaurant business was acquired by Amici Partners Group—an investor group affiliated with Brix Holdings whose principals say they are longtime owners/operators and customers—who intend to reinvigorate the brand; the sale followed the bankruptcy process and reportedly fetched just under $2 million. Corporate staff at company-owned locations are expected to remain employed, while staffing at franchised units is determined by individual franchisees." - Terrence Doyle

We had an awesome experience here thanks to our waitress, Cheri C. She was warm, attentive, and had great recommendations—her tip to try fries in the ice cream sundae was a hit with everyone at our table. Cheri made us feel like family from the moment we sat down, checked in at just the right times, and kept everything running smoothly. I’ve seen some mixed reviews for this location, but our visit was genuinely great—ask for Cheri C. if you can. She’s been with Friendly’s at multiple locations and it shows. Management, please give her the kudos she deserves!

We came for dinner tonight (a little after 5) and honestly it felt like a waste of money. My partner's food was covered in some kind of fuzz (like clothing fuzz not hair) and we couldn't even complain as our server was extremely inattentive. Even at the end when we got ice cream I got a hard serve (sundae) and it came out completely liquefied because they'd let it sit. Complete waste of nearly $70, won't be going back.

So me and my sugar daddy were ready to get some icecream after some odd years. Yknow its been a tough one I will say, but any way, we wanted to just get at the bare minimum, a milkshake with 2 straws <3 But sugar baby needed her milkies , so obviously I got some from papa before the perfect view. I will say after the visit , the NPC’s working were HILARIOUS. Drama HERE and THERE , loved it!! Reminded me of the Bear. BUUTT the strawberry milkshake needed to be thicker.

Went there today with 12 ppl after a Lacrosse tourney. When I said were a party of 12 one server said, "good luck, Im not taking it". Our waiter started out good with drinks but then it all went down hill from there. The lowest of lows was when I went to the bathroom. Washed my hands NO paper towels. I approached the servers, I said " there is no paper towels in the mens rest room". The response i got from a woman server after she chuckled was "we don't have any since yesterday". WHAT?!?!?! Sad. We used to love friendlys but they are all the same. WE.WILL.NEVER.BE.BACK!

Ordered and picked up arrived home chicken sandwich had no bun, chicken salad had no chicken. Workers were rude because they forgot my sons soda and he asked politely for it. Friendly's has gone down hill and won't be ordering from there ever again. They do not deserve and stars!!!!

My experience this time compared to the last two weeks was a great improvement in service. I ordered my two banana splits and received them in a timely manner. The server was very friendly and attentive.

First off I loved Friendly's and their Fishamig sandwich. My family was there about 4 times a month at the Massapequa NY store. We were there again yesterday April 16th and it was a TOTAL disaster. My favorite sandwich came on two slices of VERY thin white bread a thin piece of a fish patty couldn't see any American cheese and a little tarter sauce. The nice portion of fries that you usually got wasn't there. Instead a little metal basket with about 10 string fries came. My beautiful Fishamig sandwich with fries NO LONGER exists. Friendlys is going down the tube's. My daughters sandwich also was disappointing My neighbors daughters mac and cheese was water downed elbows with hardly any cheese sauce Please Friendlys get back on track and bring back much better food

Suppose to be a family friendly restaurant, this one is terrible. We were standing there with our toddler for 10 minutes, waiting to be seating. They were not even busy. Between the workers swearing at each other and giving each other dirty looks, while ignoring us. We just ended up leaving before we were even seated. Find a different ice cream spot.
