The 26 Best Restaurants In Lima - Lima - The Infatuation

"Frina is where Southeast Asia meets the Peruvian Amazon, a beautiful connection between distant lands united by shared ingredients and preparations. At this casual fine dining spot, you'll disconnect from the outside world the moment you step inside the design-forward hotel on palm tree-lined Avenida Arequipa. It's overflowing with so much greenery you’ll feel the jungle as you dive into pituca (jungle potato) noodles, Thai sausage buns, fish tempura with mishkina tortillas, or our favorite: perfectly cooked octopus rice. After your meal, head to the rooftop bar, Lunática, for a drink and a unique view of the city in a quiet space all covered with plant life." - paola miglio

I visited Frina a couple of months ago during a trip to Peru for my birthday. This spot had been on my list for two main reasons: 1.- the use of Amazonian ingredients 2.- the promise of Southeast Asian–Peruvian fusion — which always grabs my attention. I went with my sister and a friend, and all three of us left very impressed. The service from the moment we walked in was excellent. The cocktails were creative and well-balanced, and every single dish we tried was full of flavor. We ordered a wide variety: the Vindaloo, Bun Chiang Mai, Cha Ca Taco, Arroz Achupetado, Massaman, and a couple of others I can’t remember the names of — but everything was beautifully plated and delicious. Now, speaking from experience (and a deep love for Southeast Asian cuisine), I didn’t quite find the bold, punchy flavors I was expecting. The Vindaloo lacked the spicy, aromatic complexity the dish is known for. The Thai sausage in the bun missed the usual lemongrass, galangal, lime leaf, and chili punch. And the Massaman, while tasty, leaned more toward a Japanese curry profile than a balanced sweet-savory-spicy Massaman. That said — and this is important — everything was still delicious. Even if it didn’t fully deliver the Southeast Asian notes I was craving, Frina was still a highlight of my trip. Inventive food, cozy space, great drinks, and excellent service. Worth the visit.

Creative, delicious food from fascinating Amazonian ingredients. Service is friendly, albeit a bit scattered, and they were still spending time setting up the dining room while guests were already there, waiting for attention. It's a pretty room, albeit in the lobby of a hotel. And, prices are a little high due to.... being in a hotel.

A quiet dinner in the split personality local that by night is Frina (each morining the same space has a family friendly, breakfast / brunch spread). Frina’s night time entrance is elegant and tables can be variably private being separated by curtains and hanging plants. Dinner in the lounge attended by the bar staff was just as welcoming. Starting with the “salvaje” cocktail, followed by the Pulpo (a favorite - I could have had 2 for dinner! So flavourful) and Enchupetado ~ roughly a crab risotto, for the main course. Definitely worth the visit.

We went to Frina for a special dinner and we were very disappointed with the food. The plates were beautiful but the flavor was flat or super salty or just not right. We ordered 6 plates and honestly one was good, one was ok and 4 weren’t good. The prices were very high for small portions and even though the atmosphere was pretty; the food wasn’t up to the Lima standard.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem in the back of the hotel lobby. Everything was amazing! The entire staff is very friendly and passionate about the menu. Our waiter explained the ingredients and story behind each dish as they were brought out. Plan to share dishes....similar to tapas. Great recommendations, Rodrigo!! Not just a meal, it's an experience!

Dishes were innovative and delicious. If you are looking to try something unique and new, look no further. Make sure to save space for the desserts, the Chirimoya was exquisite.
