"The motto of this Bayview Hunter's Point soul food joint is "fried with pride," and once you bite into their fried chicken, you'll taste that it's true — it’s one of the crispiest, most succulent versions in town." - Lauren Saria, Eater Staff

Frisco Fried is a staple in the bayview neighborhood. The owner and staff are natives and have a wealth of information. The lemon pepper chicken wings were really good. The other 3 people whom I was with all had the oxtails. They said the oxtails were really good. I tried the yams. The yams were delicious. We will be back. Thank you for being apart of the neighborhood and in the neighborhood.

I am so blessed to be a delivery driver because it allows me to try new places to eat and this is one of them. I was out in San Francisco and found this place on Google searching for take out. After looking at their menu and my mouth watering.. lol I decided on going to Frisco Fried and they didn't disappoint. In my photo I got ox tails, Mac n Cheese, Greens and it came with Corn bread muffin.. When I opened my container it smells amazing and the food wasn't too salty it was well seasoned. The Mac and cheese wasn't greasy and the gravy was perfect with my Oxtails and my choice of brown rice. The service was spot on, the young woman who took my order was very nice, courteous and very helpful with the menu. First impressions of the place very clean on the inside though finding a park can be tricky but with food that like I see why. I would with out a doubt go back their and refer family and friends to eat there too.

I am from Houston Tx and was visiting the city of San Francisco and wanted to try there Oxtails dinner and OMG it was awesome. It was better than our Just Oxtails.

Google
My favorite place to eat at and love the great customer service. Got the red snapper candy Yams and greens.

Google
Each order is fried to order… taking 20m for take out. Well worth the wait. The catfish as much as I never eat due to the bottom dweller taste, was very good without that fishy bottom taste. Chicken I am still a jolybee fan … sorry. Good quality, fried chicken gives me the bad feeling after, but not here. Even when it’s made from canola oil not like peanut oil in most southern fried places.

Google
Our favorite fried chicken and fried fish takeout place. Their sides are great, specifically the collard greens, the garlic noodles and the rice and beans. The mac-and-cheese is not bad either. I think their fried fish is even better than their fried chicken THIS PLACE IS NOW CLOSED. SO SO SAD :( Replaced by a Gumbo place.

Google
I got a recommendation for this place from a colleague at UCSF who likes to eat here and then head over to Laughing Monk Brewery which is a 3 minute drive down the road. It was great! I would definitely come back again. The food is so fresh and delicious - some of the best chicken and waffles I’ve had on the west coast! The Mac and cheese was probably some of the best I’ve ever had in my entire life. And the service is really fast and friendly. I am so glad I got this recommendation!

Google
A gem that everyone needs to try. Being from south Louisiana, it was great to find Actual soul food, not what some random person calls it. Sat outside and had the smothered pork chops. Hurt myself eating so I didn't waste any food. Staff is awesome and very knowledgeable

Yelp
Ordered togo on a Thursday for 6:40pm pick up. Arrived at 6:30 and the order was ready for pickup. Food: Smoked Cochon - really good, loaded with sausage, greens, and a bit of stewed pork, pretty spicy but so delicious with complex layers of flavor, great with some steamed rice, gumbo is on the thinner soupy side in texture so make sure you have a starch to soak in the gumbo California Greens - really good, tender braised kale in a rich tomato sauce with a variety of beans which added heartiness, a touch sweet in flavor, very good Corn hoe cake - pretty good, a griddle corn pancakes, that was light and fluffy, a nice side to accompany the gumbo Service was great, warm and friendly. A gumbo was missing when picking up the order, thankfully noticed before leaving and went back to the restaurant and they quickly corrected the order and included some steamed rice as a gift along with a slightly larger serving size. Overall the gumbo is spectacular, so delicious and comforting. Service is also excellent, definitely make an effort to give this spot a try.

Yelp
we came here during Bay Area Black Restaurant Week and got to try a ton of food at a great price! * gumbos: although the original chicken and sausage was good, the smoked cochon was our fave. it was very smoky with a lot of depth. * red beans and rice: i actually thought it was gumbo at first until the gumbos came out lol. it was more like a thick stew (light on the rice) which i personally loved * po boys: these were the real star of the show, even more so than the gumbos. the pork one was super tender and the shrimp one was moist and perfectly cooked. both came with a really tasty sauce. definitely some of the best sandwiches i've had recently. * lemon pound cake: this had a perfect texture (spongy but fluffy at the same time) and was really tasty it wasn't too busy during dinner and the food came out super fast after we ordered at the counter. i also liked their huge selection of hot sauces.

Yelp
While planning my visit to SF from DC I had Gumbo Social circled to visit as it is a black owned restaurant. My first night I drove here with the anticipation of ordering to go.. the food did NOT disappoint, it was so good I sat down and ate the entire bowl and ordered another one to go. I ordered chicken and sausage, but unfortunately they were out so I was told to try the Cochon Gumbo.. I added shrimp and it was a home run. My last night I returned, I must admit, San Fran food is good but I wanted to return here as this was one of my favorite locations in the Bay Area. I reordered the same dish however this time the owner took my order. While he made my food, with assistance, we held a good conversation about the restaurant and culture of the area as the demographics and vibe are vastly different than in Washington, DC. It was a pleasure dining in and patronizing this establishment. Ironically, Dontaye (owners name) made my food the first time I visited. I didn't know he was the owner. It shows how much he cares about the product he is serving. Once again.. the food is excellent!! Real ingredients, spices blend perfectly and preparation just like in New Orleans. I hope they are around when I come back. Only thing.. they didn't have crab meat. As a DC native we are big on that so I hope it's available when I return. May just come earlier in the day. Thanks Dontaye, it was a pleasure..

Yelp
First time here, was in the area, looked up what was around and as someone from the south who believes the best Po-Boys come from corner stores/gas stations I thought I would give it a try. So glad I did! A good Po-Boy must begin with good fresh French bread . Crunch from slaw/ lettuce . Full of shrimp (or your seafood of choice) aka falling out of bread. Mayo, this did not but they top with what they call social sauce, tastes like a heavy in a good way creole mustard remoulade. Perfect amount of seasoning and hey remoulade is made with mayo. Delicious! I ate all of it! I had it with a side of fries & a tea. Fries were hot, crispy and they used a spice mix instead of salt, not hot with pepper, just right amount of seasoning. If you find fault with this place that is on you!!

Yelp
I just love the gumbo and po'boys here and I absolutely love that my vegetarian gf can get great veggie food here too. I think she likes it even more than I do. Also, everyone here is so friendly and nice...

Yelp
Found the perfect soul-warming escape on a drizzly, foggy day at Gumbo Social. Let me tell you - their gumbo is nothing short of special. I opted to add shrimp to mine, and it was absolutely the right call. Each spoonful was a comforting and all the flavors hit all the right notes. But can we talk about their pancake-style cornbread? When the staff recommended it, I should have known to trust them and order double. Even the large size gumbo left me wanting more - it's that addictive. The experience goes beyond just the incredible food. The staff here radiate warmth and genuine hospitality, making you feel like you're being welcomed into someone's home rather than just another restaurant. There's plenty of comfortable seating, so no need to worry about waiting around. Gumbo Social is absolutely worth the journey. The combination of outstanding food, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service makes this place a true gem. PS I was so hungry i ate the food so fast and didn't snap a pic. I'll be back for another bowl for more pictures!

Yelp
Food is definitely five star. This place is perfect for no nonsense, get your grub on stop and go. Very relaxed and casual atmosphere, just placed your order. They'll bring it to you and have delicious food. We had no problem parking on a Saturday but I can imagine on weekdays maybe a different story. You can take the train, which will drop you off in front of the restaurant if you prefer The gumbo that I had was the chicken with sausage and it reminded me of my mom from Louisiana's gumbo. Very very good, lots of spices. My wife got the turkey gumbo and it was very good but I preferred the chicken with sausage. I added the blue crab meat and that really made it special. we split a fried Basa fish Poboy and the sauce was really the boss. It really brought out a good Cajun flavor. The roll was thick, but didn't take away from the taste of the sauce, the fish and the slaw, though I did add a little of the hot sauce of which they have a large variety. Definitely enough to split with a friend.

Yelp
This was a great find in Bayview! I don't usually visit this part of town, but I decided to come for SF Restaurant Week. Good: - The Shrimp PoBoy was amazing - one of the best I've had - the amount of savory sauce and the shrimp itself were so fresh and well portioned - The gumbo was a little salty but very filling - super great tasting and I liked the chicken and sausage one - The cajun fries were well seasoned as well. - Prices were so great - $15 per person for way more than enough food - The Brussel sprouts were also so tasty! Bad: - The food took a bit to come out and we had to wait for about 15-20 minutes - Self service for the most part - Casual diner vibes Overall enjoyed the experience here and would come just for the shrimp PoBoy.

Becky V.

Yelp
Sausage gumbo was tasty and full of flavor. Thanks to Mr.Gumbo who offered a nice free community cooking demo and tasting, which was very much appreciated to bring the neighborhood and locals together! Some gumbo education and a chance for me to visit and check out the place. I was disappointed when I was placing my order, the cashier asked if I wanted a drink and I said water. I meant the tap water that's out for everyone. I didn't know I was charged for a bottled water, only realized after I left.

Yelp
CRAVING SOME SOUL FOOD? GUMBO? POBOYS? ICONIC SOUL SIDE DISHES LIKE COLLARD GREEN AND RED BEANS AND RICE? Look no further, this is the spot you have been waiting for! When I tell you every item was delicious, I mean it! The gumbos were each different, but delectable in their unique ways. I was worried it was going to be salty like a lot of soul spots, but it's just the right amount and you can truly taste the spice and passion put into each dish. Even the poboy and fries were good, which goes to show there is an option for anyone and everyone at this restaurant. The owner is extremely humble and friendly, so knowing their food is good shows the positivity that this establishment is surrounded by is worth EVEN MORE hype! Give this spot a try when ya get the chance, you won't believe you weren't a regular already!

Helen L.

Yelp
The po boy fish was delish. Crunchy fish. The sauce was excellent. The chicken and sausage was a bit salty but my preference is on the lighter side. I added more veggies to it so it made a great base for my pot of soup.

Ryan C.

Yelp
I had some of the best gumbo of my life from their stand at the farmer's market by the ferry building on saturday. Really rich and balanced flavors, lots of chicken and sausage. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was so hungry and it was so good. I also tried a hoecake and that was also great. I look forward to trying them again at their stand or visiting them at their main location.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I came here twice to try out the gumbo and poboy sandwich. It was my first time ever eating gumbo. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo. It tasted a bit too salty for me. I was born and raised in SF, so I don't know what authentic gumbo tastes like though. For context, I also found the mulfuletta sandwich on Divisadero St salty too. Maybe they can make a less salty version of the gumbo? The second time, I came back since they emailed me a $5 off coupon for my birthday. I enjoyed the poboy sandwich a lot more. It has a similar sauce as the gumbo but wasn't too salty eaten with the bread. I hope this business does well and helps enliven the Bayview district!

Kevin L.

Yelp
Very expensive for small portions. The gumbo wasn't fresh. To make matters worse, this area of the Bayview Hunter's Point on 3rd Street is kind of sketchy and unsafe. I've seen people getting shot and robbed over the years.

Shauna R.

Yelp
Omg like this shit is popping! Excuse my language and I can't believe I waited this long to try it. I heard great things about this place and nobody lied. I ordered through uber eats and will definitely try and come in next time. This gumbo is fire and it has the best herbs in it! The roux was the best it made the soup what it needed to give...

Marjie B.

Yelp
Omg, the po'boys are so good. I am very picky about my shrimp po'boys. The bread needs to be just right soft, crispy. The shrimp needs to be flavorful and the sauce should impart those wonderful cajun flavors without making everything soggy. They did it perfectly and more amazingly even for a takeout delivery. The vegetarian gumbo was also yummy. Well done!

Amy D.

Yelp
The food was fantastic and I can't wait to try more. I ordered the sea burger which was a fantastic fried fish sandwich. The fish was freshly fried. I could have eaten it plain. The tomato tasted like it was grown on-site. The bread was buttered and toasted to perfection. I would have paid more than $15 for more fish, but I left satisfied. My husband got the gumbo and loved it. The service was friendly and attentive. I loved the hot sauce collection.

Yelp
Have you been having a hankering for homemade gumbo? Options are somewhat limited around these parts. There's Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen in Berkeley (review: https://yelp.to/79T5c27Vfz), and of course, there's always Brenda's French Soul (review: https://yelp.to/qkGCI3poMl). My problem is that menu choices are too robust at these popular restaurants that I end up bypassing the gumbo. But not here. Three kinds of gumbo are front and center at this Bayview spot - Chicken and Sausage, Smoked Turkey, and Vegan (Roasted Mushrooms with Black Eyed Peas). Po Boys, small plates, and a kale salad definitely have second billing. The place was empty in the middle of a workday afternoon, and I didn't see anyone until the owner came out to stir one of the pots of gumbo. For my virginal visit, I decided to try the $17 bowl of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo which came with two floating mini-scoops of rice (photo: https://yelp.to/ykvaZfwYAY). Flavorful would be an understatement as the dark roux was mixed seamlessly with bits of okra, onion, bell pepper, and celery. Andouille sausage was added to the shredded chicken, and the result was both smoky and spicy. I added the $12 California Greens, and the generous portion was almost an entree in itself (photo: https://yelp.to/T1fXzdy4cM). It was mixed with okra, beans, chopped onion, and tomatoes, and the homestyle flavor really added to the satisfaction from the gumbo. The young woman who served me was very pleasant, and she reminded me the space was previously occupied by Frisco Fried which I enjoyed years ago (review: https://yelp.to/yYbDU5Cj6I). Definitely returning. FOOD - 5 stars...true homestyle gumbo, really delicious AMBIANCE - 4 stars...nice space, pretty sparse SERVICE - 4 stars...quiet to pleasant during my visit TOTAL - 5 stars...it's all about the gumbo and the greens RELATED - Exploring Bayview/Hunters Point? Yelp
Great place for food and vibes. Staff was also friendly and helpful with any questions I had.

I D.

Yelp
Tried for the first time at lunch and it was great! At the workers suggestion I got the lunch combo which included, a cup of gumbo, half po' boy and fries. They offered me a taste first which was awesome because one was spicier than the other. Went w the turkey gumbo and shrimp po' boy. Might have to get a whole sandwich and bowl of gumbo next time!

Lea T.

Yelp
I ordered on DoorDash. The po boy needs a little more flavor, either the sauce or the coleslaw needed a little seasoning. The shrimp was cooked almost perfect. I appreciate the hot sauce packet but there was only 1 lol The fries were perfect with just the right amount of salt ! The packaging and presentation was 10/10 I enjoyed the treat thank you Jasmine (the name in my receipt)

Sharon R.

Yelp
What a nice surprise to stumble on Gumbo Social at the recent Hunter's Point Open Studio event. My biggest issue was deciding what to order, but I settled on the vegetarian option, which consisted of mixed greens, beans, and tomato. It was so delicious and soul-soothing! I wish I had another bowl right now.

Amy W.

Yelp
We schlepped out to Hunters point on a rainy day for some Gumbo. They are only open on certain days - so check the schedule. Also the menu changes every month, so check the website. The Owner Dontaye is right up front, and loves to chat it up with guests! We split a pork sandwich and a chicken/sausage gumbo and a side of a hoe cake. I thought I would love the hoe cake- but it was fine - it could have benefited from being hotter and maybe a pat of butter too. The sandwich was my favorite - loaded with tender pork. Whatever the orange sauce that was on it - I could drink it! I would love if they would offer a fried chicken po boy and also they have po boys served with french fries IN them in New Orleans - that also sounds great. The gumbo was huge and very flavorful. Bathrooms were clean but I would love a lighted light switch in there since it is so dark when you enter it is difficult to find the switch.

Claire C.

Yelp
I'm almost never in Bayview, but this place is well worth the hype. The place is fairly casual. You order at the counter, have your pick of tables, and patiently await your food. Water and utensils are self serve as well. Chicken and sausage gumbo- 4/5 a little on the saltier side. Really hits the spot especially on a cold windy sf day. There is a HEAPING amount of chicken in this. Shrimp po boy- 4/5 bread is a bit hard but the sauce really makes this po boy Hoecake- 5/5 got the special for the day. Love that they rotate flavors and use whatever fresh ingredients they have at the moment Portions are just right. Wonderful to meet the owner/chef while we were eating! It's always great to see the dedication to the food. It definitely brightens the atmosphere up as well. I really don't know anywhere else in sf you'll find gumbo this good.

Zoran T.

Yelp
Perfect gumbo and po boy schrimps. Sevice is very friendly and helpfull. So, recommand!

Tracey A.

Yelp
When you're standing in a place called "Gumbo Social" talking to the owner (Dantaye) who says "you can also call me Mr. Gumbo" and staring down at the menu it's a certainty that you're going to order gumbo so I did. I skipped the add-ins and opted to share a large bowl of Chicken & Sausage Gumbo ($17), a couple of orders of Corn Hoecakes ($5 each), and a serving of California Greens ($12) which skewed more soul food than kale salad. All aspects of Gumbo Social appear to be overseen by the owner who greets you upon entry, takes your order, and delivers your food. It's a casual place, so you might also find yourself chatting it up with Mr. Gumbo and learning about the place's origins (farmer's markets and catered events) and the fact that neighborhood residents are trying to get him to stay open past 8 p.m. Help yourself to disposable cutlery and enjoy richly satisfying gumbo/southern food/soul food served in disposable bowls. Gumbo Social seems to be a great addition to the neighborhood and one I'd happily return to and when I do? I'll be walking out with one of those "Eat More Gumbo" hoodies 'cause who doesn't want that? Really good, unusual-for-SF, food in a casual, comfortable setting. I liked it.

Bryant C.

Yelp
A spot that has been on my radar since I heard about their opening. I finally got a chance to try them out during restaurant week as well. A semi-low key spot where you order at the counter, and they bring out your food to you, I showed up for dinner on a Thursday and it was a little quiet, but the staff was ver friendly. I decided to sit at one of the high tables with bar stool and they brought out our food from their restaurant week menu. FOOD: Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Smoky, deep, big flavor that was balanced as well. Chicken and sausage pieces just perfect. Just one of those comfort foods that hits so perfectly. Highly recommend. Smoked Turkey Gumbo. A little more smoky, but the turkey maybe ever so slightly dryer, which doesn't take away from the gumbo, it just depends on your preference if you like that smoky flavor - which I do. So I recommend this as well. Big Black Brunch (shrimp po'boy). Goodness. Perfectly toasted, light bread. Shrimp juicy, bouncy, perfectly cooked. Coleslaw light, crunchy, but not overpowering. Sauce creamy, with a kick. Add Crystals if you want extra kick or their pickles and you have a perfect sandwich. Highly recommend. Hot link po'boy. All the same stuff as the shrimp po'boy but with hotlinks. Also quite good, but I prefer the shrimp, still can't go wrong with this either. Salad. An interesting addition. A light salad with a simple tangy sauce, though they had these peeled carrots that either I was eating wrong or didn't really fit well in a salad. Probably wouldn't get this again. Red Velvet Cake. Pretty standard and solid red velvet cake. A bit on the sweet side, but light and fluffy cake with good flavors. Probably still a good choice. Overall a pretty solid spot. Glad I was able to try so many things for restaurant week. I'm super interested in their roast duck and pork that I wasn't able to try that day. Just a tad pricey, but this is the price you pay for good food and totally worth it. I will be back!

Kinsey M.

Yelp
Everything was so good! I came for SF restaurant week so I got to try the chicken and sausage gumbo, the shrimp po boy, the lemon pound cake, and the brown butter rice crispy treat. Everything was 10/10, no notes!! The sauce on the po'boy was amazing, I could drink that. And the gumbo was super flavorful (I would recommend adding crab!) you could really taste the brown butter in the rice crispy, and the pound cake was nice and soft and moist with a lovely lemon icing. The service was great, super quick and friendly. Also very chill vibes! Please check this place out!

Eric L.

Yelp
The highly-anticipated brick-and-mortar debut of a beloved farmers market pop-up does not disappoint. I have now been twice, and both times have been impressive. The gumbo is stunning, with the right amount of spice - and with hearty protein. The large size is incredibly generous and could likely feed two people if they aren't hungry. The po boys are also good - but the gumbo is the star. Service is among the best I've seen post-pandemic, particularly for a more casual spot. Staff are incredibly friendly and interactive; they appear to actually enjoy their jobs. I'm looking forward to continued visits. And I'll never skip the gumbo.

Cass F.

Yelp
The food was so good! Everything was flavorful and the service was great. Prices were also good for the area. We left satisfied and will definitely come back again

Hope D.

Yelp
Visited their tent at outer sunset farmers market. Bright turquoise color you can't miss it :) Their staff are so lovely and so friendly. The male who took my order was kind enough to help me while I was recording. I ordered the gumbo with rice on the side. It took about 5-10 minutes to come out. It was piping hot and super rich, packed with flavor. I love the sausages & okra in it!

Brock P.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to get to Gumbo Social and try this spot. If you like food full with flavor ... this is your spot. Had the shrimp Po-Boy and the vegetarian Gumbo. My wife is a pescatarian so the only gumbo that would work for her was vegetarian so we shared it. The flavor was amazing. The Po-Boy was really packed full of flavor. Amazingly delicious. I give it 2 .

Miguel P.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal and the service was spot on. Right after eating was asked if we liked the food. The ambiance is a great little comfort spot.

Eman H.

Yelp
Gumbo was great as expected. Great service and love decor. I'll be back for sure. I'll also be ordering for team.

Leonard G.

Yelp
Best Gumbo in the Bay Area. Not the most convenient location but is available Saturday at Ferry bldg.

Morgan D.

Yelp
Super nice and helped me get both some fresh and some frozen gumbo. Was missing NoLa and this place has the goods. Smokey and spicy just the way it should be. Def going back on the next cold day.

Annie W.

Yelp
The chicken sausage gumbo here is really tasty and satisfying, especially on a cold winter day. I picked up the large container to go from the Outer Sunset Farmers Market and it was still steaming hot when I got home. Truthfully, it was a bit on the salty side for me and I would've given them 4 stars, but the service I got from them was worth another star! When one of the guys (maybe the owner?) saw me putting the container in my to-go carrier, he stopped me so he could tape the container shut to ensure there were no spills! Now, that's pride in product and excellent service!! The gumbo is full of sausage, chicken, veggies, and lots of flavor, with just a hint of heat (as in spiciness). It was nice and thick, especially with the scoop of rice. The large container is large enough for two meals for me, so the $16 price tag isn't bad! I think the next time I'll get a container of the frozen gumbo, too, to keep on hand when the urge strikes!

Jack L.

Yelp
It's so hard to support this place, they are never open... The gumbo is good and I crave it once a week but due to their business hours it's hard for me to order most of the time. I wish they didn't take as many days off or breaks as they do, I get you need time off but 12 days a month is a lot.

Maria M.

Yelp
It's a cold winter afternoon and what am I craving for gumbo! What can I say about the Chicken Sausage Gumbo, it was hearty, tasty, and just mouth watering delicious! Every spoonful was filled with veggies, chicken, sausage and rice. It was spiced just right! It's simple yet complex in taste. I like the thickness of the broth. It's a bit pricey for $16 for a large container, but it was very filling. Will be stopping by regular in the Outer Sunset Sunday Market! It was a Very comforting meal! I was going to save some for the next day but I finished the whole thing. Highly recommend!

Kimberly T.

Yelp
I emailed them after seeing them on a Bay Area foods instagram page. Naomi was kind and approved a section of the restaurant for my Mom's 85th birthday celebration. She was patient with my boisterous family. Almost took over the restaurant dancing, eating and singing. Gorgeous pictures on the walls, reasonable price & most of all delicious food. All of my family was so happy, especially my mom. She is still raving about it. lol. So, Thank you so much for your kind hospitality & Tremendously great food. Gumbo is Devine.

Gautham K.

Yelp
What we got (Restaurant Week): - Chicken and Sausage Gumbo - Roasted Pork Po'Boy - California Greens - Banana Bread Pudding - Hibiscus drink Wow, this place blew my mind. We visited the brick and mortar store near Hunter's Point during Restaurant Week. It was incredibly cheap for SF (everything above was $46, enough to fill 2!), and we loved everything we ate. For me, the pork po-boy was the highlight of the show with a crunch yet soft bun, stringy pork, and a savory nutty sauce on top. As someone who needs hot sauce to feel alive, the wide selection of VERY hot sauces was much appreciated. The gumbo was amazing as well. But, the unexpected surprise for me was the salad! It has a great combination of crunch and leafy greens while still staying light and healthy. The banana bread pudding was a great way to end the meal. And the hibiscus drink was strong and syrupy, very unique. The surrounding area was a little sketchy on the street. But, special shoutout to Dontaye (the owner) who made us feel at home and safe. We enjoyed talking to him and he was super accommodative to our big group!

Pallavi J.

Yelp
Best vegan gumbo I've ever had! The vegan po boy is amazing too! I didn't know I liked hearts of palm until I had this sandwich :P

Powd A.

Yelp
Addicted, everything FIRE. Once a week kind of spot 1,000%. Hoping they add a seafood gumbo to the menu

Vedant R.

Yelp
This place is so good and blew me away. The gumbo is so hearty, filling, and flavorful. I asked the server what the best po boy was and she said the roast pork and im glad i listened. The pork was tender and crispy and the sauce on top was the perfect compliment. Def one of the best po boys i have had. The decor is also nice and they have a ton of hot sauce options to choose from .

John A.

Yelp
We had the turkey and the chicken and sausage gumbos. Both were great, very different, and intriguing in different ways. It was real gumbo, with a real roux, no cornstarch. We're looking forward to trying the vegan versions and the beans and rice with smoked duck. Service was great; the owner staffed the counter and took obvio pride in his business. The ambience is not fancy; it's a straight forward diner and the focus is on the food. Servings are generous and prices very reasonable.

Yelp
Outstanding taste with perfect presentation is the best way to describe what Gumbo Social brings to the Bay Area. I ordered the vegan gumbo, brussel sprouts, collard greens, and a corn hoecake! The flavor was out of this world, the customer service was outstanding and the location offered plenty of parking. The ambiance was perfect, it felt comfortable and the music was fun I started dancing after the first bite! I wish i found this GEM sooner, but I couldn't think of a better meal before I hit the road back to San Jose. I'll definitely be back! You should visit gumbo social!

Yelp
we ordered 6 trays of breakfast sandwiches for our companies breakfast this morning, absolutely the saddest, ugliest food arrived. I was so sad, really looking forward to it from the pics on Yelp. What came was NOT what was on the menu, instead of "cheese Brioche roll" we got cold hamburger buns, squirt of sauce in the very center, a piece of American cheese that they burned under a broiler for some reason so it was a strong taste of burned american cheese. the meat was like pre-sliced Smart and Final sandwich meat and that was that, I felt sorry for the egg they wasted on this thing. No one touched them and I had to throw them all out. the grits came with what they called "vegetable rage", did you mean Ragout? or were your vegetable filled with rage? The trays were all smashed together during the journey and oil and juice was leaking all over the place. Again no one touched it and our southerner staff were very disappointed. The food on their website IS NOT what we got. I hate to think what we paid for each sandwich consisting of a single american cheese slice and an egg on a plain hamburger bun.

Yelp
I had the Seaburger with fries. The seaburger was delicious, moist, the fish was firm, the sandwich was tasty. I didn't have to add anything. No part of it was dry. It was prepared when I ordered it and it didn't take too long. I also had the California Greens, they were very tasty and full of good veggies. I'll save those for dinner. The fries were great too. The restaurant is clean and the staff and other guests were friendly. I will most definitely be coming back for more.
