"Fritzi’s Delicatessen will permanently close on Saturday, November 4 after a year in business. Known for pastrami, cholent, and chicken soup with kreplach, it faced supply chain woes and pandemic challenges." - Naomi Waxman

I was very pleased with my experience at Fritzi's! We were looking for a good sandwich, and this place satisfied. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious for a deli, and the menu is a unique experience! I love Reuben sandwiches, so I had to try it, and it was fantastic! I would highly recommend this deli for their pastrami and fresh breads!

This place was a wonderful place to eat after visiting the Frank Loyd Wright house. We had the pastrami, and did it Reuben style, which was an amazing choice. I enjoyed both the coleslaw as well as a potato salad, and the service was both extremely friendly and very fast they gave us some recommendations for things to do locally in the area and it’s the best to sandwich I have had in Chicago.

Wednesday night we decided to go back to Fritz's for hump day. Since we hadn't been in a few weeks, we decided to try something new. We both started with soup and I have to tell you that the kreplach was reminiscent of my grandmother's! The delicious bone broth soup was rich and hearty. For entrees, I had the smoked sable platter and my husband had the Romanian steak. My fish was beautifully presented and delicious but the star of the night was the steak! It was tender, succulent, and presented on a long plate garnished with roasted garlic and topped with mixture of parsley and dill. Aside from being delicious, it was beautiful! We passed on dessert for the 1st time, because we were so full, but we did so hesitantly since the desserts are amazing. Our server Noah was prompt, charming, and made us feel right at home. What a great way to break up the week!

Came in with my sister for a late lunch and had a lovely experience. We ordered a Rueben and Pastrami. The Reuben was to die for. So buttery and crunchy with the perfect amount of ingredients without being overwhelming or messy. We finished with a decadent bread pudding and hot coffee and it was absolutely perfect. Two really nice touches were the owner coming to introduce himself and chat with us. Also to explain how to warm the pudding in case we were taking it home. Really cool guy! Second nice touch was the awesome 90s playlist! Perfect volume and compliment to enjoy a filling and delicious meal. We also got the cole slaw and it was perfect. Not overdressed or anything. We will definitely be back to try the other items! If I could share one tip I’d love to see more specialty sandwiches like the Reuben that are combos of ingredients . Everything was lovely though and look forward to returning!

Jessica’s #1 recommendation was the pastrami on Reuben…from my first bite it was such a delight! It’s gotta be one of the best of its kind, west of the Hudson at least. Can’t help but wish I didn’t wait till closing week to experience the hospitality that Paul Stern, Anthony Higgins, & the whole crew has brought to life here!

We had an amazing time. Everyone was so friendly and the server kept checking to make sure we were doing ok. They were out of a couple beers on the menu, which they let us know prior to looking at the menu. We weren’t drinking so it didn’t matter but it is worth mentioning. The food, unbelievable! We started with soup. We had 3 different soups, a chicken noodle, the Kerplach and the special which was a cherry soup. I would go back just for soups. The cherry soup was very unique and delicious. My son had the salami sandwich and he ate the whole thing. Being 9 he’s a picky eater and love it. My wife and I split the pastrami and the corn beef Ruben. The pastrami had such a wonderful flavor and I’ve only had one other that could compare and this would still have come out on top. The corn beef was so tender and juicy also. The sandwiches were pretty big portions too. The owner, Paul and manager Anthony came and chatted with us and really made us feel like family not just some customers. Every aspect of our visit was amazing. We will definitely be going back soon.

Stopped in on a whim for a quick bite. We had the mushroom soup, taste of deviled eggs, pickle plate, lattes and a kugel I believe. It was all very tasty. The soup was delicious but a little salty. Great selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options. We watched a few delicious looking sandwiches and bagel plates walk by us. -1 star because service was a little slow and we could have used a more descriptive menu

Good food for the soul! Amazing food. Fritz Delicatessen is truly a gem. My favorite part was meeting the people who pour their heart & soul into the vision Paul calls a home for his childhood favorites. My recommendations (see photo which includes Brisket, Jerusalem Pepper Salad, and Blintz) I can still taste the savory Chicken Soup W/ Kreplach. Make sure you take a pastry or 2 home (Try the Chocolate Babka). Fran’s Cheesecake should be available as an entire pie! Souuuul good! Till we meet again.
