Google
I visited Front General Store last weekend while visiting Dumbo, and had a great experience! The shop was very quaint with such an amazing collection of vintage sweaters and lots of unique items! At checkout, I realized I needed to buy a few extra items and the staff at the desk were so helpful to assist me in getting those for me so I didn’t have to leave the checkout counter. They were so helpful and answered a few questions I had. I definitely recommend Front General Store and look forward to shopping here again!

Google
Super cute store! Fab quality, unique items in a wide variety with very good pricing. Highly recommend.

Google
The store has a nice, vintage vibe, but the staff weren’t very welcoming. The atmosphere felt unfriendly, which made me quite uncomfortable

Elena Pittatore

Google
Hipsterish and cool vintage shop, prices are a bit high and the staff not super friendly, but I think it’s part of the vibe

Kelly Koester

Google
Fab store - so unique and singular in their offerings. From Japanese-made utilitarian goods like T shirts, totes, and socks to an incredibly curated selection of vintage styles which all seem fairly and reasonably priced. Love this store!

Heidi Liou

Google
One phrase to describe this store: well curated. Great for window shopping or buying a gift for a friend! I loved their postcard assortment then ended up browsing more of their store.

Google
Rude staff , I now understand why so many reviews mention issues with their attitude. I visited in a Sunday, and the cashier seemed annoyed in general. Maybe she doesn’t want to work on Sunday and was upset about having to be there, whatever. All I was politely ask for a paper bag for a postcard, and her attitude was so rude. I hope the owner reads all their reviews and takes steps to improve their customer service. I won’t be coming back. It’s better to visit a vintage shop in other places

Alex Melendez

Google
Great store that has a little bit of everything for everyone. Both cheap little items and expensive clothing items.

Yelp
Literally love this store in Dumbo. They have a great mix of vintage and new products. The service is also so nice. They also have a great incense smell in there. Sometimes it's pretty crowded but I would still highly recommend!

Yelp
Four stars for the feel of the shop and its curated inventory. They carry imported artisanal soaps, limited kitchenware, and a variety of lifestyle knickknacks in addition to a medium-sized collection of vintage menswear. I would certainly come by again to purchase smaller gifts, but I found their clothing, while in good taste, to be extremely overpriced from the perspective of the consumer in some cases. (I've worked in vintage wear and decor before though, so I understand why and how this happens.) However, if you have the money and are looking for a specific caliber of vintage clothing, this is a great place to start, and the size of their collection will save you time versus wading through a series of larger, messier, cheaper thrift store situations.

Yelp
DO NOT BUY VINTAGE ITEMS. Rigid return policies. I bought Levi jeans online that did not fit at all and they do not accept returns. You have to make sure the jeans fit before you buy them online, or just avoid buying from them all together.
google avatar

Abe P.

Yelp
Poor customer service. I purchased a belt one size up as recommended on the site. I'm a 32 waist and purchased the 34 and it did not even come close to fitting. I emailed them to exchange it and they would not exchange it. I am going to be forced to dispute the charge as they are selling incorrectly sized products. The quality seemed fine for a child. Also came damaged.

Carlos L.

Yelp
I was immediately followed by two employees pretending to be customers. I know they have a job to do but they were quite obviously following me and made me feel uncomfortable. Won't shop here again as I see that a lot of other brown folks get the same treatment

J S.

Yelp
The staff is so rude. I said Hi when we entered and they just squared me up and down without notice. Like some other people said, we were also followed around to see if we were staling, which was senseless - we were obviously tourists, as if someone would fly from Europe to steal a 200$ stained sweater. The whole shopping experience was really uncomfortable. They were not helping at all and would look away when one tried to talk to them. At check out the cashier was borderline confrontational. I get it that retail is no fun but these people really go out of their way to make you feel crap. Don't buy from here ( I wish I didn't ).

Wayne G.

Yelp
Amazing store especially for vintage Levi's large selection of 501's from the 60's onward Interior was well laid out and the sales help were extremely knowledgable and friendly Definitely worth a visit
google avatar

Quang P.

Yelp
It's a general store that sell high quality vintage products, like from postcards to candles to soap to jewelry to clothes. Clothes seem to be very stylish and timeless at the same time. Things tend to be quite expensive but if you're looking for gift ideas or don't mind paying for high quality vintage products, then def give this place a stop.

Yelp
On a recent visit to NYC, I was on a mission to look for vintage men's Levi's. I figured that out of all the places in the world, there must be at least one shop that truly specializes in them, to the point of matching my level of nerdiness of analyzing the cut, age, country of manufacture, etc of each pair. After visiting a few other vintage and thrift stores around the city, I found my mecca at Front General Store. While I would have to pore through every pair at other shops to maybe find one diamond in the rough, it seemed that just about every pair of Levi's they had were high quality made in USA, with even some deadstock pairs of orange tabs in the mix. The main stacks of denim are toward the back portion of the main area of the store. Their level of curation and organization (mixed up some by customers, but otherwise organized by cut and very clearly marked with sizes) does not come cheap as you can expect to pay $100+ for a pair.. you might be able to find similar pairs for half that elsewhere, but you'd really have to search through a lot to find them. The small area in the very very back of the store is where the top gems are though. On one of the racks is the best denim they have, a mixture of redlines and even some big E's. You MIGHT get lucky running across a pair like these elsewhere, but the experience of being able to look through an entire group of them together is nearly museum-like. This is definitely a destination shop worth the trek!

Yelp
If you're looking for a bargain this isn't the spot. While not necessarily overpriced they exclusively curate high quality offerings, and I throughly appreciate it. Beautiful items for the kitchen (the unglazed plates and bowls were stunning), very cool miscellaneous items, and a variety of stylish and prototypically Brooklyn clothes. Absolutely worth stopping in!

Miley B.

Yelp
There stuff is cute but the staff is so rude and they have boxes everywhere. Pretty bad shopping experience from the second you walk in the door.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
ATMOSPHERE Aurgh! Too cute. I'm in love with all the ceramic-wares. Each item is such an art piece. All the small gifts too, such great designs. In the back, has some clothing.
google avatar

Peter Y.

Yelp
The coolest store! They have a lot of nice clothing, ceramics, accessories, glasses, denim, etc. Scored a very warm pair of wool gloves and knitted cap, and not at too bad of a price either. The selection exudes high quality and fashion. No complaints about the staff, they were polite and chill.
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
What a cute store!! So many different products that all look like great quality, from kitchen ware to home goods to clothing and just general knickknacks. The people working here are so friendly too - I bought a hat and gloves and decided to just wear them out since it was chilly and they pulled all the tags off for me while I was paying which I thought was a nice touch. This is a great place to stop by and browse if you're meandering around the area.
google avatar

Kyle N.

Yelp
Lovely decor. Cheerful workers and amazing clothing. Really love coming here whenever i'm in the area. You literally never know what you may find. I found a specific necklace I had been searching for and got a nice colored hat to go with it. Whenever you need quality vintage or to brush up on the little Japanese you know, ( which is what I did :D) this is the place!

Jas G.

Yelp
Accuses people of stealing instead of checking their cameras! This store should be ashamed of themselves for putting someone in a very uncomfortable situation! Terrible management! Karma always finds its way.
google avatar

Kara H.

Yelp
Cool shop, but the prices are absolutely insane. (Sigh, Brooklyn). They had vintage graphic sweatshirts for over $50 (one Packers sweatshirt was over $200!) and this old used Hanes t-shirt was $38. Their non-clothing items were great and fairly priced, but if you are looking for the style of clothes they carry, just go to a Goodwill or Salvation Army Store...
google avatar

Roma M.

Yelp
Great gem of a store in Dumbo. Wide selection of wares from around the globe, like leather Bohemia slippers from Morocco in an array of colors. Beautiful jewelry including 14k gold necklaces, notebooks, art supplies, clothing. Just go visit!
google avatar

Ceren A.

Yelp
A nice vintage store in DUMBO that I had the chance to stop by today. I do not know why but "Levi's" brand was all over the store, mostly shorts. So the clothing lost my attention fast however they have nice bandanas, 100% cotton and prices are between $6-$25. They also have many glasses. Vintage African glass beads are $20. They have pins, key chain, some hand made toys. I would recommend the store for unique gifts.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
lots of neat things to look at, i loved the trinkets section loses 1 star because they had the AC on with the door wide open
google avatar

Vivian W.

Yelp
Possibly the cutest vintage store I've ever been to. They have a very well curated list of Tasche books to Japanese linens, hardware accessories and beautiful silver jewelry. If I were to have any store curate my space it would be this one!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Very poor customer service. Would not honor civil service discount. Would not honor 20% discount when the lady behind us gave us a coupon. Also refused to honor a coupon that was 1 day old. Would not recommend this store. Customer service should be crucial when major retailers are closing down and moving to online purchases only.
google avatar

Lynn W.

Yelp
Random strolling in the Dumbo hood n was pleasantly surprised by this cute little gem! Easy to shop, well organized, friendly staff, good selections of vintage and new and mostly of all very well priced! Will definitely come back for more! Ps. Some of my favorites were the vintage sunglasses/ glasses along with the small leather goods selection.
google avatar

Adelaida T.

Yelp
This is such a classic new york (Brooklyn) spot - you can find things from all over, really cool styles and with great personality. This is a spot for high end vintage, and it is cool to explore the selection - it feels like going through a museum. I especially liked the selection of things from different parts of Asia - Japanese porcelain, many things from Hong Kong, jackets as well. It is one of the most interesting and memorable vintage stores I've been to - stop by for an intimate museum shopping experience! The clothes are all well made too.
google avatar

Tanya S.

Yelp
Just happened to pass by this neat store as we were walking from Jane's Carousel and I absolutely love it! Found some cool things to take home for friends in California. How I wish I could bring home a set of the Hasami porcelain. Such beautiful kitchenware! Friendly staff too!
google avatar

Alina J.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon, where it was slightly busy. Found this store through the shop list for Hasami Porcelain. I've been looking for a beautifully made, independently crafted mug and I found it through this wonderful company made in Hasami, Nagasaki. Medium mug in slate grey is $30 with tax, but totally worth it. On a side note, I guess this place is good for photographers because there were two people snapping away while I was browsing. Also, there was a beautiful mustard yellow blazer from Hong Kong that I had to stop myself from purchasing. I'd definitely come here again and recommend this gem to anyone visiting Dumbo.
google avatar

Cassidy P.

Yelp
I could live in this store. It's basically a collection of all that I love: modern, vintage, rustic. Eclectic. Antique indigo cloth from Japan, antique army/navy from all over the world, little brass pins and boxes, ceramics, soaps from Japan, vintage wool blankets and rugs from all over, candles from Brooklyn. Some things are reasonably priced, like the ceramics, pins, soaps; many more things are pricey, but I still love it. So does my dog. :)
google avatar

Hannah F.

Yelp
quality products and second hand items. The thrifts are overpriced, so much stuff can be found for cheaper elsewhere. but if you got the cash, there are things that are worth it. I got some upstate stock gloves and i wear them all the time!
google avatar

Film Score P.

Yelp
If I could afford it, I would. The whole store is fantastic taste! Vintage bags that look barely used, or has an old flare but looks really cleaned up since. Love the selection! It's mostly costs and winter styles right now, but that makes sense!
google avatar

Caitlin C.

Yelp
It was cute inside but honestly who pays $18 for a regular bandana? I can get those at Walmart for $1...I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist stop (as it was recommended to me) just don't waste your time.
google avatar

Echo L.

Yelp
Beautiful store. Amazing things. Just too damn expensive. Who are they pricing this stuff for ? Tech titans ? Hedgefunders ? A-list movie stars ? Heirs ? Heiresses ? Richkidsofinstagram ? It's really sad that prices are this high. It's sad. It's outrageous. Kinda unacceptable. But I guess if they're getting those prices then wow. Ok. Good luck. But for the rest of us, this place is just a look and don't buy store. Which means you walk out feeling like shit.

Risy B.

Yelp
I love this store. Local Brooklyn items, super cool vintage goods, clothing and accessories, and important goods and clothing from Europe and Japan. This store is what retail dreams are made of.

Jackie J.

Yelp
Absolute vintage gem in Dumbo! Great selection of Levis shorts and jeans, vintage tshirts, and jewelry. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back and spreading the word about this place.
google avatar

Karyn S.

Yelp
This store has a breathtaking selection of beautiful items. The Japanese store owners have impeccable taste and have spent immense amounts of time and love curating their wares. If you have a love for these types of items, you'll get it and appreciate it. Come on a payday because you're going to want to drop some bills.
google avatar

Ilana W.

Yelp
Found my absolute favorite pair of Levi's here. They have a huge selection of vintage tee's, jeans, and other gems for men and women. Don't come looking for a deal, everything is really expensive.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
I could spend days in here just pouring through their shelves. The prices are very fair for the items they've taken the time to curate and collect, and I have to say I received some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. I asked one of the associates if he could help me dig through their stacks of jackets for a good fit and color and he was more than happy to help me out and quickly sized me up for what size to look for. I really hope I get to go back sooner than later. If you're looking for it, these guys have it.
google avatar

Kristie B.

Yelp
This store is really amazingly curated and incredibly inviting. It's nearly impossible to walk out without falling in love with a few items. They have an incredible range-- both men and women's clothing, as well as hardware and room decor items. Everything is in great condition, and reasonably priced. Love it!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
This store just kinda sucks - not sure how else to say it. First of all the store stinks - literally. Smells like the stinkiest thrift store I've ever been in. It's full of extremely overpriced antiques and crappy thrift store clothing. Also - the employees don't make any attempt to greet you or even just say 'hi' even though the store was awkwardly small and quiet. Don't waste your time.
google avatar

Wilkie J.

Yelp
Can you say 'True Vintage'? This establishment have delivered just that from boots to real leather jackets. I can honestly say I just entered a museum of cool clothes that we can actually buy to keep for our collection. I like the spaceman look if I am looking to fly to the moon, but we all should wear real stylish clothes from 70s. Let's get dizzy a bit? I turned around, poof I've seen something for my feet... Spin around again, I saw a bomber jacket I would wear for tomorrow party... Let spin around, shall we?... Oooooooo they have warm blankets too!!! We need these for our cold nights.... I have to turn again, dishes for kitchen too! ... Turn again twice... Why? Just to hug the sales person and asked how they found all these wonderful things. Yelpers, this place is must visit. Request to speak with Hide where he will assist with everything. That is called great customer service. I love this place

Dmitry C.

Yelp
All stuff selected fantastic, very clean, not super used and has description, also a lot of beautiful silver made jewelry.
google avatar

Olga F.

Yelp
Out-of-this world amazing vintage Americana and workwear. I can only wish they had a bigger selection of women's items.

Talya P.

Yelp
Great organization. Great job listing sizes on everything to eliminate the need for estimation that often makes vintage shopping difficult. However, the prices are just ridiculous. At L Train Vintage, which is a chain vintage store with like five locations in Brooklyn & Manhattan, I found Levi's for $25; at Front General they're upwards of $80. I found Lee shorts for $10; at Front General they're $60. Yes, good organization and help with sizing is worth paying extra, but it's not worth a 150% markup.
google avatar

Lauta G.

Yelp
Just wonderful. The women's options are limited but very well priced. A real jewel. Totally worth leaving Manhattan for. And the customer service makes it so inviting. Don't be afraid to ask questions - Knowledgable staff.

Alexandra V.

Yelp
If you're coming here for a cheap vintage find, turn back. If you're here for some exceptionally curated vintage Japanese designer clothing and some of the best eclectic jewelry I've ever seen, please please please visit this store.

Justine S.

Yelp
I love this store! It is so well curated and the staff is so friendly. A sales associate helped me find the perfect pair of vintage levi's in what seemed to be an endless sea of denim. I will for sure be going back to pick up something else!
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
This is the best store in Brooklyn. All the people who work there are generous and help you pick out anything to your looking for. Great store !

Trevor L.

Yelp
They have bandanas! Do you know how many stores I went to looking for bandanas before this? One of the most ubiquitous American accessories and you'd think I was asking for the lost Grail. Yet here they have new and vintage bandanas in every color. Couldn't be happier! I need to come back and really peruse the rest of their stock because it looks like they have some awesome vintage jackets, but rest assured that if you need bandanas, Front General Store is the place to go!
google avatar

Che W.

Yelp
I made a pilgrimage here last weekend with my boyfriend. We haven't stopped talking about how special this store is. I semi-understand the negative review, as service isn't necessarily bubbly at first. My suggestion is to say hi first. We ended up talking with the manager and staff and they are all very helpful and supremely knowledgeable about what they sell. Re. stink--it is definitely not stinky like some icky thrift stores. Some of these old military clothes are just that--old! From the 50s, 60s, 70s. I purchased a men's XS Belstaff jacket made in UK before it switched ownership and quality deteriorated. Based on size, the fact that it was from the 60's or so, and has years of wear left in it--it's basically a one of a kind item (and was priced accordingly, if you understand this market). Make the trek if you're into vintage army/navy, denim, Japanese clothing and textiles, vintage children's denim, workwear, Pendelton and other blankets, vintage jewelry, and eyewear--to name a few!

Rana S.

Yelp
Amazingly well selected vintage pieces from every era. Hide is so knowledgeable and a most gracious host to anyone who visits his store. One of the best vintage stores in New York.
