Where to Stop and Eat on the Drive From D.C. to Pittsburgh | Eater DC

"Steakhouse vibes and a wood-paneled bar room make this all-day restaurant is a more restful, leisurely stop for travelers. People can even stay overnight at the affiliated Omni Springs resort. The menu spans from mushroom soup to steak tips, but don’t miss out on the fried pierogi for an appetizer." - Missy Frederick

Flavors and cook were good on all dishes. Service was excellent, our server was very knowledgeable and helpful. Atmosphere was really neat including historical items. Our server told us about the history and invited us to walk through the upper area of the original building while we waited for our food. Recommend.

My coworker and I were on a work trip across PA and were looking for a place to eat. We came across this place not understanding that it was part of an Omni hotel. With only a tshirt and shorts, my friend wearing an anime shirt, we entered the property and nobody even batted an eye to us not being dressed properly for the occasion. (Most were actually dressed in nice formal attire). We were seated and greeted by very kind service. Their burgers with honey on the side have to be #1 for the best burger I’ve ever had. We finished eating and found giant chess outside, played two games, and were on our way to where we were going. I highly recommend checking out this place

We recently had dinner at Bedford Springs’ Frontier Tavern. While we’ve usually had great experiences there, this visit was a bit of a disappointment. For a starter, we got the Hatch chili nachos. they were good, but the queso was a bit grainy. Definitely acceptable though. I ordered the smoked beef and cheese sandwich, which unfortunately fell short of expectations. The sandwich was a bit of a disaster to eat, as the cheese came in the form of a sauce. The flavor and texture of the beef was decent, but the beef was thinly sliced and was reminiscent of Arby’s. The bread was very good. On a more positive note, the sweet potato fries were excellent. It was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. However, the side of coleslaw was underwhelming. It looked hastily prepared, with the cabbage simply plated and the dressing drizzled on top rather than mixed in. Overall, while the service and atmosphere were as pleasant as always, the food this time just didn’t live up to the usual standard I’ve come to expect from the Frontier Tavern. Usually, I am very pleased with my experience, so this may have been a poor menu choice for me.

We ate here twice during our stay & both times were quite good. I love the menu & the vibe. I wish I had this place in my neighborhood.

Google
While the food was ok, it was certainly not worth the price in either quality or quantity. The food was poorly seasoned and poor value for money. Also, kids do NOT eat free this summer. The advertising drew us in, but it’s false. Additionally, the restaurant is dirty. The floor is sticky, the tables are sticky, there are thick layers of dust on the frames of the wall hangings, and our booth seat had an old and dried out shrimp tail shell hanging out on it. Our server was awesome and very accommodating - thank you for your hard work!

Excellent Experience!!!! Such an Incredible experience awaits You through and through Here from the moment you approach the entrance with the most amazing hostesses, and management, they’ve been absolutely fabulous both nights, In fact it was so good the first evening we had to come back for a second, the pub chips and the Roasted olives are a can’t miss experience, the cream of mushroom soup was very nice, The Green Goddess salad is also a nice vision in Healthy, Mindful eating which was nice to see, Because you don’t see a whole lot of originality when it comes to Salads, This was A pleasant surprise for someone who eats a steady diet of them, the Cobb salad I had last night was Perfection through and through, and I didn’t have to pick out one Brown Leaf of lettuce which was nice to see Greens that were Clean and In Good Condition when offered, I don’t eat too many sandwiches, but all the sandwiches I saw being walked around were huge, and Above all else, the service was SPECTACULAR! You could not find a better service team than this, Much less Livia, Wow, What a star, I’ve owned a Bed and Breakfast, and Restaurants, And Can tell You Livia is Server Trainer, FOH Manager material Without a doubt, She definitely deserves a pat on the back from Her management team for a commitment to quality customer service that’s second to none, It’s not often this day of age you find someone so well versed about what’s going on in the kitchen that she can enthusiastically Endorse and recommend items that she may not eat personally like the Roasted olives, Which I’ll order every time We Visit, And was so good I’ll be recreating those at Home, Job well done Chef, My husband comes in every year for the PANA Conference, I’m a chef, We Live in Lancaster, and Have had lots of very special memories in this establishment, some with friends who are no longer with us sadly, This restaurant consistently offers top quality through and through, it was so good last night we came back tonight and requested Livia’s section, In fact, if you’re considering this or any other restaurant, choose this every time and do yourself a favor and Request Livia for an extra special dining experience, She’s Fabulous and should be very, very proud of Herself, as proud as Her team around Her should be to have Her, in fact, when we asked for Her again the Hostess was glowing about Livia and said how amazing she is and that everyone there absolutely loves Her, and that’s the one sentiment I know she returns about Her work family because Last night when we were there She said that was the thing She loved most other than being with the customers was she said Her work family and the morale there is second to none and you can really tell because the customer can feel and see it throughout their entire experience, Livia was spectacular, and the food was top notch, Every time we’re in town We eat Here every night, because you really don’t need to go elsewhere with so many good offerings and All Star Customer Service!

We were there for a business meeting. Atmosphere was great, we were able to talk without noise and interruption. Food was very good. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Finding a good meal in Bedford proves challenging. Ate here twice w/ mixed results. Ordered Pub Chips appetizer. Kind enough to sub French fries (for a girl w/ braces unable to risk razor sharp potato chards) & they were divine. Generous amount of cheese sauce (that wasn't synthetic tasting) & sprinkle of crumbled bacon & green onions. (Ranch may have been present & just melted in). Ordered Smash Burger, it was not "smash" style, but a damn good burger w/ nice smoky, meaty, flavor topped w/ cheddar & charred onions & peppers. Husband ordered Jubilee Farms Burger (same patties as "Smash" Burger) w/ sweet potato fries & reported both very good. Day 2 ordered a Chicken Schnitzel-Piccata that was neither Schnitzel nor Piccata- bland, a little greasy, disappointing. Breaded chicken breast w/ side of un-sauced spaghetti- no detectable wine, butter, lemon, herbs? Nothing wrong w/ a hybrid dish, but u can't just fry a cutlet & dump tomatoes & mushrooms on top.

Yelp
While we have dined here on other occasions, I somehow forgot to add a review. Dining at the Frontier Tavern is just a part of the overall experience at the Omni. The place was packed the night we were there but we were seated quickly. We chose the Liberty School Cabernet - always a good choice, and ordered some Pub Chips to start. The Pub Chips, a huge order, were terrific! I chose the Baked Mac & Cheese while Carol chose the Mushroom Bolognese. Both entrees were piping hot and huge. This (The Omni) is a special destination and you get what you pay for. Prices are a little high but the quality and ambiance are hard to beat. Even if you are not staying at The Omni, take a moment to walk around and look at all the trappings and history on display. Our server was Jacob and he was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Dining at the Frontier Tavern was the most disappointing part of our stay at the resort. My wife and I each got burgers that were overcooked (cooked medium-well, ordered medium-rare), rubbery, and tasteless. The salad was good, except for the large chunks of red onion. I'd ordered one of the seasonal drafts, an IPA, with my meal and was brought a stout. The server assured me it was an IPA, despite its black as night appearance and milky taste, and then conceded the taps may not be correct. She offered to replace it with another beer so I ordered a Yuengling. I was charged for the more expensive beer I'd originally ordered. We split a piece of the 17-layer chocolate cake for dessert, which was okay. I was in disbelief when the check arrived and that slice was a whopping $16; nearly as much as our entrees. This place is horrifically overpriced for the poor quality food they're serving. Based on that experience, figuring the restaurants share staff/kitchens/ingredients, we ate our dinners elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

Yelp
It was so good to be able to so easily reach this restaurant late on a Monday night! The food was great and the staff so friendly. The seating quite comfortable. Definite a great stop along a roadtrip.

Yelp
Great ambiance, stopped by for lunch. Food is average in flavor but the views and experience make it worth it! Will return for sure!

Yelp
I'm at the hotel for a conference and stopped in for a quick dinner. I was immediately seated and Kelly was my server. I told her I hadn't eaten lunch and was starving. She took my order with ease and brought me the app I ordered super fast. Then my pasta and I asked for bread to go with it and again, Kelly delivered. She was attentive and thoughtful. Even brought me an iced tea to take back to my room. The chips I had to start were good. I liked the sweet balsamic and salty chips. The pasta was also tasty. I would have liked a bit more pesto but the veggies were perfectly cooked and it was the perfect portion size. I'm sure I'll be going back tomorrow night and I hope I'll have Kelly as my server again.

Yelp
I had dinner here and ordered the hamburger with onion rings. It was delicious and filling after sitting and drinking at the pool in the afternoon. I was a bit confused on the mask policy as my waiter had a mask on but under his chin when he served my food

Yelp
Best. Burger. We've. Ever. Had. There was just something about the patty that was oh so good. Juicy and full of flavor. The brioche bun was of course the cherry on top. The pub chips were DELICIOUS too. Went there both nights that we stayed at the Omni. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
While located in the luxurious Omni Bedford Springs, there isn't really too much to write home about for Frontier Tavern. It's your average restaurant with overpriced bar food. I got the Beast burger, which was ok. The fries were a huge disappointment though as they were soggy and flavorless. The donut holes were a great midnight snack though. The almond cake wasn't bad but was pretty dry unfortunately.

Yelp
Had lunch and dinner at the Frontier Tavern at our recent weekend stay. The service was very attentive, and the food was very good.

Yelp
Stopped here recently for a dinner- clear evening with a little brisk bite to the air. I had been here for a wedding, and some golf years ago, but hadn't done good yet. There are several places to eat and drink in Bedford Springs- and this is a more casual spot that I have been told by the experts. Started with a mixed drink - Crown Apple mule, which was very good and had just enough alcohol to give a kick but not take me back to college when I'd wake up on the kitchen table at our apartment with nothing on but a pasta strainer and coin changer. For an appetizer, we shared crab spinach artichoke dip which came with what I would say were homemade chips? that were thicker than store bought stuff. We decided to eat light and get a couple of salads - me going with the chicken Caesar salad which was tasty but could've used a little more dressing.
google avatar

Erin A.

Yelp
Lucked out that after waiting 30 minutes for a table we got one at the window with the big chairs. I little challenging to pull them in so you can eat close to the table but oh so comfortable. Lenten Friday - so Cobb salad with no bacon and added shrimp. Caesar salad with shrimp too. They kindly removed the tails because we asked when ordering (I'm not sure why any good restaurant leaves them on anyway). Too full for dessert but it looked good.

Yelp
I was staying at the hotel for a conference and wanted to try the dining options on site. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the meal options pretty delicious. I went with 3 stars because the food review and the service is very slow to receive your meal. We were in for a conference and could not get food in a timely manner. Neither could the three other tables next to us. My first visit there I ordered the reuben sandwich with fries and my bread was completely soggy, like it sat ready for way too long before serving. Second time, I ordered the beef tenderloin sliders and they were very dry and over cooked. I had to ask for more sauce. The fries are yummy though. The experience was pleasant, but rushed and for the price, I was hoping the food would be much better. The alcohol prices are ski high since they are the only liquor sales on site.

Yelp
The staff at the frontier tavern is some of the best at the Omni Bedford springs. During our visit, we ate here a couple times because it's one of only a few lunch places on the grounds, as well as the only place open past 10:00 for drinks. Each person who waited on us or brought us our order was extremely friendly and polite. Always saying you're welcome, please, my pleasure. They really know how to make you feel like an honored guest. As for the menu; it's nothing too extravagant. A limited selection of which is really over priced. We had a few things & liked everything we ordered, but everything was pricy. $7 for a tiny cup of chicken noodle soup... not worth it in my opinion. The drinks are expensive as well. The tavern has a pretty awesome drink menu though. I highly recommend the champagne cobbler. They also carry one of my favorite beers, white lightening. The decor in the tavern is pretty cool. Sitting inside reminds me of playing the game Clue. Very old fashion, couches and chairs to lounge on, lots of wood, & a lot of little stairs. I also enjoyed that the tavern had outdoor seating as well. Although it was expensive, I will be back because of the excellent service and unique atmosphere.

Yelp
We ate here over the weekend. Great food and service. Atmosphere was perfect for conversation with family friends. Fillet was cooked to perfection. Appetizer and dessert were really good as well. I would l recommend it to everyone.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Staying at Omni, I usually look forward to eating at the Frontier Tavern. The new menu is awful. My reuben was cold and the corned beef was chunky and very greasy. I only ate the fries and 1/4 of the bread. I told the waiter. He apologized but no offer to reduce the bill or remove the sandwich. I told him it wasn't his fault. I know he didn't make the food, but he should have tried a little to make me happy. We will eat lunch or dinner at Jean Bonnet Tavern from now on. Let's hope the Crystal Room is better for breakfast tomorrow. We come here often(and spend a lot of $$ like $176 for dinner tonight) so I hope this was just a fluke. Judging from the menu, I doubt it.

Yelp
Awesome food and service! We sat outside by the fire. Such a beautiful night and had a wonderful dinner and Shelley our server was great didn't have to ask for anything. If your ever traveling through Bedford, PA it must to stop and eat or stay over night. The staff is so friendly and makes you feel welcome weather just eating or there for night. So glad it's in our neck of the woods!

Yelp
Upon arrival your needs are met by Justin---your mixologist expert providing libations unlike any other! And should you require a slider they have those too.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Autumn was our waitress, she was fantastic. Food was excellent!! Bedford springs resort is a beautiful place.

Yelp
First time staying at Bedford springs, ordered 2 chicken Caesar salads, a grilled cheese, and chicken wings. The salads were the worst salads I've ever been served in my life. The chicken was absolutely flavorless and ice cold, the grilled cheese sandwich was thrown together and burnt, and the chicken wings were mediocre at best. I wanted to love this place but so far is completely missing the mark.
google avatar

Kinda B.

Yelp
I heard so much about the Bedford Spings and the eateries within it that I was excited to finally try it. Well, the grilled fillet was cold as were the mushrooms. The fries were good. My girlfriend's seared salmon had no flavor to it. Her daughter did enjoy her $14 grilled cheese. At least the drinks were really good. I don't mind spending a little extra for higher quality at restaurants, but this place failed to impress. Other than the killer Old Fashioned drinks I had. I may go back just for those. The Golden Eagle just down the road blows this place away.

Yelp
What an awful experience. I was here on Labor Day and didn't even want to eat here. We were staying over at the Omni and every where else in town was closed. For the past 2 years, the veggie burger has been on the menu and it's the only vegetarian option. I hate this burger and kindly asked the waiter if they could make me a veggie sandwich. (We had called ahead asking about this and they said it wouldn't be a problem.) Well the waiter came back and said they couldn't make it but could do pasta with veggies which I didn't want. I couldn't understand how they couldn't make me a sandwich when they have other veggies all over the menu! We told them we were leaving and a manager or someone in charge came over (he was very young and seemed inexperienced just like our waiter) and he said he would go talk to the chef and asked what I wanted and what veggies I told him. I listed about 15 veggies I like. He came back and said they would make it. When it came out, I was in complete horror. It was the thickest bread I have ever seen with literally a roasted CARROT on each side, one mushroom and lettuce and tomato. I was pissed beyond belief but at this point just wanted to get out of there. Oh and they charged me $14 for that bread with a carrot on it. By far the worst dining experience I've had.
google avatar

Jax L.

Yelp
I got the steak salad and my friend got the burger. Both were mediocre - not bad, not great. The steak in the salad wasn't properly seasoned, which was too bad. It was also cooked medium well when I asked for medium rare. Otherwise, the salad was good though. The fries that came with the burger were also a let down. Definitely was expecting more for the price range & the context (at the resort).

Yelp
I dined at the Frontier Tavern twice on my recent stay at Bedford Springs. Both times the service was top notch! The staff was extremely polite and so accommodating. They really know how to make you feel welcomed and do it all with a smile! The service alone makes me want to come back. The main reason we dined here was because it is one of the only lunch options on the property and also not as formal as the other options. Also another thing I loved was the outdoor seating. They also have a fire pit with chairs around it as well. You can get a s'mores kit from the hostess stand inside and make s'mores at night...how cool! The decor inside is unique, very old fashioned yet cozy and relaxing. Lots of lounge chairs and booths to relax in. Also multi levels, there is the main bar/dining area then you can walk up a few steps and sit/dine there as well...it's a unique set up! The tavern is the only bar on the property open past 10pm so this is the place to come for your night cap! As for the menu it's average, pretty standard and nothing extravagant. I found it to be a bit overpriced but all of the food tasted good. I had the flatbread which was good. I loved that it was so crispy! I'd get that again. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger that was all he said about it. If you're going to get soup go for the bowl it's $9 as opposed to the cup which is $7 and so tiny. We had the chicken noodle soup because it was a bit chilly outside and it hit the spot. We also had the chips appetizer, good but nothing special. They have a pretty nice drink menu. The champagne cobbler is absolutely delicious, a must try! All in all, it's overpriced but the service made up for it. I do recommend checking out if you're staying here.

Yelp
I want to start out by saying that, depending on what you get, this place is REALLY pricey for pub-style food. We went twice - lunch on both Sunday and Saturday. We had the same waitress both times, and she was great. Fast, friendly, checked in on us. On Saturday I got the Tavern Burger with fries, subbing their honey mustard aioli for mayo on the side. The burger and fries were both delicious. The next day, I hesitated to order the steak salad at $26... but it sounded great. As it turns out, it was better than great. The NY strip on top of my salad was better than the filet mignon that I got in the Crystal room! The salad comes with a ranch dressing that everything is pre-tossed in. I love a ton of dressing normally, but the way they did it was perfect. The price stung, but it's the best steak salad I've ever had. The downside other than the price is the awkward setup. You have to climb two small flights of stairs to find the bathroom and even though they have a lift, I would think it would be inconvenient for anyone in a wheelchair.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
I would have to say that out of all the times I've been here this past time is my absolute favorite. Although I was kind of chilled, even though it was the summer, I really was happy with how fast we were sat without reservation and the area in which we sat. I'm not sure what they recommend for parking for non-guests. Although, the walk may have been the best part. I wasn't truly hungry, plus I've been pretty good with dieting. We shared crab / artichoke dip which I thought was super tasty! I really liked my salad too, just wish I could finish. The drink I got was really good; some sort of berry wine mix? I like the view, but it made me a little reminiscent of the last time I was there - kind of like a dream and how much time has past and if it's real life? You know? This place is magical and to be here at holiday time with someone special - in terms of the whole resort- would be magical. I've heard they do weddings?

Yelp
$17 9 oz wine pour? Extra $1 to add balsamic drizzle to side of chips No thanks we will find a better lunch spot after the spa next time....

Yelp
Excellent food. I really enjoyed the hamburger. My father in law loved the grilled cheese. The fig and caramelized onion Flatbread was delicious. My wife had the quinoa salad and raved about it. We had a terrific lunch here. James, our server, did an excellent job attending to our needs

American G.

Yelp
This is high priced lunch fare, but everything is done well with great service and you can't beat the historic. luxury resort atmosphere. The crab burger was almost all crabmeat and was huge compared to the average crab cake. Before COVID my grandchildren used to love coming here and ordering the grilled cheese, macaroni and donut holes. Hopefully they'll be able to go with us again soon.
google avatar

Kristy N.

Yelp
This is an average place in a wonderful hotel. The only other choices without having to get in your car and drive are at the hotel and they are more fancy/expensive. We were at the hotel for 1 night and since we are vegan the Frontier Tavern had the best selection for us. We ordered the homemade potato chips (no cheese) and 2 veggie burgers along with 3 total cocktails and our bill came out to $150 plus tip! We thought it was pricey for what we ordered and the food was just okay.
google avatar

Howard F.

Yelp
Top notch service and quality food, with scenic views. The view from the huge windows can be quite breathtaking, even on a rainy day like the one we experienced. Our server took great care to check what dishes and combinations were safe for my severely celiac father to eat, and catered to my daughter's slightly picky approach to the menu, too.
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
I have visited the tavern a few times while staying at the Omni Bedford Springs. Drinks are awesome and bartenders are always friendly. If you want a table for dinner I recommend waiting for a table with padded high back chairs to free up, they are the best! Also, get the donut holes for dessert you will not regret it.

Yelp
9/4/17 - 9/6/17 6pm We have been staying at the resort so we have eaten her for late lunches and dinners Food: very good. The tavern fries are like loaded skins in fry form. The caesar salad was not great. The tavern burger is one of my faves Drinks: their version of a Texas Grayhound is awesome! Service: whether at the fire pit or the restaurant they are attentive and very nice Botton line: Four out of five stars only as there was on "wow" factor
google avatar

Andi B.

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite to eat between enjoying the many adventures (spa, hiking, pool, golf) at Omni. The food is quite good. The burger is delicious (very large! Be prepared) and the lobster roll (cold) rivals those in New England. The other bonus? You don't have to leave the resort.
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
This review is a bit belated but better late than never, right? I came here for lunch with my mom last week - we were staying at the Omni Bedford - and had a lovely time. We had a really late breakfast so we only ordered two things but both were scrumptious. We split the Wild Mushroom Soup (cup for $7) and the Pastrami Reuben ($14). The soup was overpriced for sure, but I give them props for flavor. Definitely the best cream-of-mushroom-esque soup I've ever tasted. It was surprisingly filling! The Reuben was ridiculously yummy - lots of pastrami! Definitely one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Oh, and the dish came with fries, although I wish I could've tried their house-made chips. Anywho, I'm bummed I didn't get to try more of their food. I'll definitely be back for dinner sometime! FYI: the interior's beautiful and all, but the armchairs aren't very comfortable! Just giving y'all a heads up. I'm asking for a table next time, ha!

Bernadette U.

Yelp
I've been here twice for lunch, once on a day trip to Bedford and more recently as a guest in the resort. On both occasions have been very satisfied. The food is simple, yet exquisitely executed. Had by far on the of the best BLTs in my life. Also, am a fan of their 9oz pour of wine!
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Great meal. Simple, but delicious soup. While there were "sexier" meals on the menu, I went with the bone in grilled chicken as the main course. Wow. Not sure what the chef did to this, but the flavor was amazing. Finished the meal off with a good bourbon.

Heather C.

Yelp
After a 10 minute wait we were seated. Ordered a martini and my dining partner had grand marnier, neat. Drinks were deelish! Appetizer: spinach & crab dip - meh...I've had better. Dinner: corned beef with sauerkraut sandwich and sea salt fries- sandwich was soggy but tasty. Fries were ok. I only ate half the sandwich because I couldn't get past the soggy bottom bread. My partner had the salmon with carrots and fries. He loved the carrots and salmon. Our waiter: I can't remember his name but he was very personable and friendly. Ambiance: it was ok given the options available on a Sunday evening
google avatar

Serena T.

Yelp
The mushroom soup was so tasty. Very fresh tasting and creamy. I liked the nice touch of the portobella mushroom on top. I also got the Appalachian Brewing Company Root Beer which was great. I also ordered the shrimp and spinach pizza (personal size) but wasn't very fond of that. My husband and father had the braised beef poutine which was tasty. The service was great (as was all the service we had at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort).
google avatar

Eddie K.

Yelp
The Frontier tavern is the only casual restaurant at the Omni. It is a little pricey, but you are staying at the Bedford Springs resort. During our stay, I got the fish and chips and the steakhouse burger while my wife ordered the salmon caesar salad both times. The food was perfectly cooked and the service was pretty good. We did enjoy the late night entertainment. They said it's complimentary, but you are really paying for it with the $25 daily resort fee.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
I've eaten at Frontier Tavern twice and both times my meal wasn't as described in the menu. Yesterday I ordered the crab and shrimp primavera because menu described sundried tomatoes in the recipe. Meal came and no sundried tomatoes. Pointed it out to the waiter but that was the end of the discussion. Shrimp were over-cooked, rolls were warmed in a microwave. Save your money.

Karen F.

Yelp
Excellent dinner by the fire pit. Server was very attentive. Perfect outdoor location for COVID times!

Yelp
With a warm casual setting, this restaurant serves comfort food that pairs best with a beer or cocktail. We strolled in one evening looking for a not-so-expensive dinner. During our first trip, I ordered the tavern burger and my husband got the pastrami reuben. Both were delicious, but the tavern burger fell into the "holy yum" category. My husband took a bite and that was it. He found love. For our first meal, our bill was around $30, not including drinks. I think this place has fair pricing. Although the menu is rather casual, the food is elevated to a level that makes it worth an extra couple dollars. Our next trip (somebody wanted a tavern burger of his own) was for lunch. I got the grilled cheese with spiced tomato bisque and was oh so pleased. This simple dish went far above my expectations. I'm possibly drooling just thinking about it. My husband, of course, got his tavern burger. He was thrilled. Our last round at the Frontier Tavern was for a "light lunch" so we'd have room for our fanciful dinner (aka we shared a tavern burger and got the house-made chips with onion dip. The chips are definitely recommended.) We were both full and happy as could be. This place has a fun casual menu, a pleasant atmosphere, and a friendly staff. Also, in case I didn't get my point across, an amazing burger.

Yelp
Very poor service or maybe we are Asians. Actually we tip pretty well but unfortunately you stereotyped is. The waiter is a little aloof with us. During the meal he checked on nearby table a couple of times but never even once at our table until that table left. He never refilled our water or even asked whether we need it. Super long wait for appetizer and then entree and now couldn't find him to get the bill. Won't come again.

Yelp
On the way back from Falling Water, great place to lunch hike and wander the halls of the historic hotel. Nice way to round out a refreshing long weekend.

Yelp
Great way to start the vacation is at the frontier tavern We start out here after the drive in grommet to NY and it is always the perfect start at the Omni. We live the resort and the frontier is the great start to it all!!!!

Yelp
Nice causal dining. The crab cake sandwich was fantastic. Healthy portion of fresh lump crab on a delicious roll. Nice wait staff: friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
While staying at the hotel, we wanted to go for a simple option, and the Frontier Tavern delivered. We started with some drinks (a bit pricey, but hey, it's a fancy hotel bar/restaurant). My lady friend had a glass of wine while I went with a drink made up at the Omni hotels called a "Belmont" (bourbon, Averna, Angostura bitters and orange bitters), which was UBER tasty. I will be teaching myself how to make that myself for consumption at home. But on to the food... The menu was pretty simple, apps, salads/soups, sandwiches, and some full plates. The lady friend ordered a shepherd's pie with real pulled lamb (cooked to perfection), and I went with the meatloaf sandwich. Mmmmm, meatloaf with mayo, bacon and aged cheddar... awesomeness on some tasty bread. I was not prepared for what was placed before me though. The sandwich was almost as big as my head. I'm not kidding, this thing was humongous. I don't think I consumed it; it consumed me. I was only able to eat two of the accompanying, house-made ships with truffle shavings. The chips tasted wonderful, I just had no room left after that sandwich. Even with the higher priced drinks ($15 for a glass of wine), we went back a second night (but ordered lighter fare). Give the tuna tartine a try (alliteration much?). High quality Ahi tuna with a zesty sauce and avocado. All in all, not too shabby for a "tavern". They even have a pool table in back, just look out for the 6 year old trying to hustle you.

Yelp
We had lunch here while staying at the hotel. This is their casual restaurant. We sat outside on the patio. BJ had the lobster mac and cheese. He really liked it. I had a grilled steak salad with potter county blue cheese, red onion, crispy potato strings and creamy dill dressing. It was definitely one of the best steak salads I have ever had. On another visit, I had the mac and cheese and BJ had the meatloaf sandwich. It was served on sourdough, with cheddar, BBQ mayo, Lancaster bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion jam. BJ really enjoyed. We were both very happy with the quality of our food.

Yelp
Excellent food. Great ambiance and view. Super service. Our waiter could not have been friendlier. The food was served with perfect timing. Time to relax but no waiting. Filet was very tender and tasty. The gourmet burger was flavorful. Delicious meat. Even the gluten free bun was tasty. The small plate fries with smoked Gouda and bacon kicked off the meal Pretty view overlooking the front lawn and mountain. It was nice walking through the hotel even though we weren't staying there. Pretty grounds
