Due to a lava flow rupture, we booked this hotel last minute. It ended being a happy discovery! The hotel is in a tiny town which is dotted with steam fissures. A short and lovely walk from the hotel along a river trail leads you to the main area of town. There's not much to the town but this would be a good base for day trips. There's also several trails including one that leads to a natural hot springs area, and a place to rent bikes, etc. ||||The hotel is cute, we had a private balcony/patio which overlooked the river (upgrade). The room was surprisingly large (compared to most European hotel rooms). There toiletries smelled nice; fyi no body lotion. There's a hot pot (small hot springs pool) on site which is lovely in winter. The hotel provides robes and slippers which is nice to not need to pack. It would have been an excellent location to see the aurora borealis, however, it stormed the night we were there. ||||Staff was friendly and resourceful.||||Eating at the Varma restaurant is a must! We consider ourselves foodies, and know quality when we taste it. The food and presentation was exquisite! We enjoyed every bite; both dinner and breakfast. ||||Overall, if we happen to find ourselves in this part of Iceland again, we will definitely stay at the Frost and Fire Hotel!
