I was really excited to try this place, because I have followed the owners in their reality TV pursuits over the years and wanted to support. The location is pretty easy to find and there is on street parking in the area if you can find a space. There is also a public parking lot that charges $10 that is very close by.
Being searched and wander before walking in was a little off-putting since it was early in the day, but totally understand they want to keep the patrons safe.
Our waitress, Kyrene, was really friendly and very helpful. She made great suggestions about the menu and made sure our food came out quickly and very hot.
I really enjoyed the fried okra and the lobster and grits. I like that they give you the option to split the order and get half fried and half grilled lobster which is not something you can generally do. The one issue I had was two members of my party ordered the same meal and it came out plated differently (one drowning in sauce, one almost dry). The crab claws, which are a specialty, had a bit too much seasoning, and were very salty. The ox tail and grits also got great reviews.
We sat on the patio, which is very cute. Nicely decorated, and I felt the whole vibe that they were going for, but the insect problem was extremely hard once the food came. There were so many flies. It made it extremely hard to enjoy being outside. Not exactly sure what they could've done about that, but I really feel like they needed some bug zappers or something.
Drinks are decent, a little sweet for my taste, but OK . The place is priced comparably to others in the area, but for the value it still felt extremely overpriced, particularly once you add in a mandatory 20% gratuity. I didn't mind it because our waitress was really nice and I would've probably tipped 20% anyway, but something about it being forced on a party of three just doesn't sit right.
Overall, I may stop in if someone in my party wanted to go, but it wasn't a must return.
