The place is wonderful. Great parking and seating available. Delicious soft serve and sundae. Counter to a recipe comment, when I tasted the whipped cream and instantly knew it was home made and basically no ice cream shop does that! Moose tracks was delicious! Perfect summer vibe and the line moves very quickly. Cash only!

Our very first time coming to frosty freez. We wanted to see what the hype was about as we see people during the summer lining up. We looked over the menu and decided banana splits sounded good. We ordered in both chocolate and vanilla. While the toppings tasted good. The whip cream had no flavor tasted like air and didn't add anything to ice cream itself. The soft serve was mediocre. Wouldn't call it bad but wouldn't call it great either. Not that we will not be back to try something else. It just didn't live up to the hype for us. On positive note the staff was friendly and we loved the options for dogs. Our pup enjoyed his pup cup more than we did our own ice creams so for that I will call it a win.

We love Frosty Freeze and are regulars during the season! To anybody who complains, you clearly have some issues that need to be fixed. Let me be the first to tell you that yes, frosty freeze is cash only. Who cares, they have an ATM and multiple signs. Second, there is plenty of parking and if you can’t park there, park next door. As for people having issues with the wait times, that would be because they actually take the time to care about your order and perfect it. We’ve tried so many things here but I gotta say, the soft served ice cream sundaes are the best! We love to add their homemade brownies and toppings. The price for everything is reasonable because of the location. Let’s also remember that this is a small business and they outperform larger chains. We will Always support this gem!

What a great way to end the evening. Cash only and local check fyi!!! No matter the line the variety of ice cream at this location is top notch. There is absolutely something for everyone. We started with three ice cream soft serve cones with gummy bears, rainbow sprinkles or plain. Every piece of ice cream was eaten up. I dove into my soft serve vanilla and coffee banana split!!!! It comes with all the traditional toppings but the best part is that they cut up the banana and real whip cream! I truly can not wait to go back. Well worth the wait in line.

This is a nice little ice-cream shop my wife and I found while cruising by the area. Highly recommend this family friendly Ice-cream shop.

Super nice staff and very reasonably priced. I had soft serve yogurt; there were several flavors which doesn’t happen often. I chose blueberry. Although the ice cream was good, couldn’t taste the blueberry at all and it tasted a little too milky for me. Great seating and with the long lines I’m guessing it’s a local favorite. Next time I’ll try the regular ice cream

Very good ice cream. SO many choices it was daunting but in a good way. The staff were super nice and the place had good vibes. Only odd thing is they’re still cash only in 2024 but it worked out. Will be coming back!

What a hidden gem in Newport! Definitely not overpriced like other icecream spots, and though it's not directly downtown, it's only a little bit out of the way. One benefit is plenty of free parking!!! We tried the delicious soft serve: the coffee/vanilla swirl and the vanilla swirl with rainbow jimmies. They were so smooth, creamy, delicious, and came in cake cones (or cups)! Definitely will be back to try the other icecream flavors ("hard" ice cream). And maybe even a sundae because it looks like that's a specialty here! They are cash only! Line may look long but don't let that deter you because they move super super fast.

A wonderful local small business! They are a staple of Aquidneck Island. Ice cream is always delicious. Expect a line if you come during peak hours (after school time, weekends, or after dinner time). However the line moves quickly and it's absolutely worth the wait! Prices are very reasonable. It is CASH ONLY so be sure to come prepared, or plan to use the ATM outside. There are a few seats outside but otherwise it is only counter service. Parking can be chaotic but there's a lot outside as well as a lot next door (and you walk over).

Don't let the line scare you away, it goes by so fast. They're friendly and efficient. I always get hard chocolate either with hot fudge or as a milkshake. They don't have regular hard serve chocolate (it's called extreme) but they have several flavors of soft, hard, and froyo which is a lot for one little shop. My dad and I get the Monster Milkshake which is about $12, but more than twice the size of other shops. Fun for July Saturday night!

Yummy! We went the last day before they close for the winter. Everything was 50% off! Love their soft serve.

If I could give 4.25 stars, I would. This ice cream - both soft serve & hard - is amazing. I know because I've had both in the same day. Yes, Yelp user, my Black Raspberry hard ice cream was so good it inspired me to jump back in line and get a soft serve Nor'easter (basically a DQ Blizzard) of coffee ice cream, peanut butter and m&ms. Just awesome, delicious, flavorful. The missing star is because the signage is all at the front window. When there's a line, it makes the line move So Much Slower because people have to "see/read" what's available. The crew is fast for sure, but it's awkward trying to keep the line moving while you're trying to read, etc.

Soft serve chocolate shake is dee-licious. Chocolatey, good consistency and texture. I judge ice cream places by their soft serve chocolate shakes and this is the best.

In the mood for some ice cream we decided to stop at Frosty Freez. We lucked out and caught them at a slow time as this place is quite popular and can get very busy. I went with a hot fudge sundae half chocolate and half coffee ice cream. It was good ice cream, and the perfect size as well. I had to knock a star for being cash only as I never carry any cash and it personally makes it a bit of a hassle.

I've always loved this place ice cream is great service is great and it's a nice place to stop by but in summer be ready for some medium sized lines I would totally recommend it.

Holy WOW!! We found this on a list of dog-friendly places to visit in Newport and our doggo hit big here. The "doggie dish," is a personal sized soft-serve with a milk bone on top--$2.45?! For me, two home-baked chocolate chip cookies with frozen deliciousness (vanilla) in the middle. Unreal. Happy treats for everyone.....enjoy!

This place is a legend on the island. Good stuff cheap, as they say. I went to my 50th HS reunion a couple of years ago and some of my classmates were telling stories about working here. The ice cream is nice. The experience is terrifically nostalgic. Not a boutique ice cream stand, but a lot of flavors, and lots of ways to get them. Wide range of related products, such as ices, frozen yogurt, etc. Great place to go after a seafood dinner at Anthony's, up the street.

The coffee soft serve is amazing -- I always get a large which is huge and does not disappoint! Very reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. Would recommend the ice cream plain though, tried the chocolate dip once and it was not sweet/flavorful enough.

Frosty Freez is the only ice cream parlor in Middletown and brings nostalgia to all the locals. I originally was from Middletown and can say every child felt excitement for April 1 when Frosty Freez was open for the season. They have Hershey's ice cream mixed with a few others. There is a soft serve machine that mixes flavors, along with the normal Garelick Vanilla and Chocolate soft serve. Garelick has a really thick and sweet soft serve, which beats any hard serve flavor. After moving off the island, I have found locally made ice creams that I enjoy much more, but Frosty Freez is great for people who live on the island.

Here on the island I would have to say that Frosty Freez is the Ice Cream King. There is always a line and people are always coming back for more! Prices are fair and service is good! This evening's sundae was over the top amazing!!!! Butterscotch & Hot fudge with REAL WHIPPED CREAM!!!! Woo-Hoo!!

Why are there always lines? Because their ice cream melts in your mouth! The lines proceed in a quick manner, because the staff shows diligence and dedication to their jobs and gets every order correct. This is a hidden gem for sure. Many choices and sizes and the smiles on customers faces tell the story. Wonderful!

Not impressed. Paid $12 for: -large (large or monster are the only options, thanks for contributing to America's obesity) chocolate malt -large sundae (with fudge, peanut butter, and brownie). This Sundae was a cup full of ice cream (great!) but the brownie, fudge, and brownie were right on the VERY top, so all the fudge and PB ran over the side of the cup. Grrrr. Had the cream been more cone-shaped, that wouldn't have happened. 2 items, over priced, sloppy. Not a huge fan.

I scream, you scream, literally all of Aquidneck Island screams for Frosty Freez! This amazing little ice cream shack is a staple part of any Rhode Island summer, and it's a rite of passage into being a true Islander to wait in line for a hand dipped cone or sundae on a July evening! We decided to make a post dinner trek out to Middletown (gasp! A Newporter who gets in the car to do something!) to get our first Frosty Freez fix of the season, and I sure am glad we did! The cute location is conveniently placed right off a busy main road. There's a limited amount of parking and seating for the crowds that gather (trust and believe you WILL run into everyone and their grandma here), and the lines can snake around the building, but it's very much worth the wait for the yummy frozen delights! They carry a variety of flavors and styles of ice cream, from soft serve, which is best dipped in a hardened cherry or chocolate glaze and sprinkles, to regular hard ice cream in a myriad of offerings, like the wacky "Play Dough", which is a cookie dough ice cream with rainbow dough bites. So fun for Instagram - millennials take note! I also love the Only8 Frozen Yogurt, which is a tasty low carb alternative to the more decadent menu items - but the upside is that you won't feel guilty adding some toppings! This lighter treat comes in chocolate (recommended), vanilla, or a swirl of the two, and you can definitely feel good topping it with some homemade (!!!) whipped cream and fudgy chocolate sauce. Does it defeat the health benefits? Maybe, but hey, it's summer! Frosty Freez is CASH ONLY, so be forewarned. The line usually moves pretty quickly, but waiting is actually half the fun, as the people watching is some of the best you're gonna get outside of downtown Newport. Make sure you get a chance to visit during their limited open season - you may THINK you have forever to visit here, but closing day will be here before you know it, so get yourself to Middletown soon for some awesome ice cream!

Is the location unassuming? Absolutely. In fact, its aesthetic is really no different from any other small town ice cream place. They serve Hershey's Ice Cream, slush, and other goodies. So they have variety, but again, it's no different from any other ice cream place of it's size. But then they get to talking about their soft serve, and you know you're in for something special. There are not many flavors to their soft serve (there are add-ons), but there doesn't NEED to be anything special beyond one simple item: the Coffee/Vanilla twist. Upon being explained by the very kind server what their soft serve offerings were, several customers behind me brought up that I had to try the Coffee/Vanilla twist. One even claimed it to be the best ice cream in Rhode Island. And they're not wrong for saying that. The Soft Serve borders on custard in it's thickness. You can turn the cone upside down and it'll stay on the cone. The flavors are subtle, as if coffee milk and vanilla milk were combined to make a luscious dessert. Needless to say, it's simplicity actually makes it incredibly special. The prices are fair too, especially for the area. A cone can be less than $2 for a fair serving.

Always a line. But moves pretty quickly and lots of conversations. Wide selection of soft and hard ice creams, sundaes, shakes, etc. Good service. Yummy, Cash only.

This is all time favorite ice cream spot. I might be biased because I have been coming here for years but it's not officially summer until I go to Frosty Freeze. I almost always get a coffee vanilla twist with rainbow sprinkles and I'm never disappointed. LOVE LOVE this spot!! There are 5 tables along the side of the building and also a little grassy spot to sit and eat your ice cream. Can't wait to go again this summer.

Deliciously creamy soft serve from a local ice cream joint. Frosty Freez has been a staple in all Aquidneck Island locals and for good reason. This shop is seasonal and opens on 4/1 every year after a long hibernation during the winter. They also serve ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, and all your ice cream needs. Stop by to satisfy your cravings!

Keep up the good work! Great prices, quick line. The employees are incredible with memorization. I've come here a few time close to closing time, as an after dinner treat with my family. I wish they would do something to repel the mosquitoes. You get eaten alive waiting but hey it's still worth it. There's honestly nothing wrong you could ever order here. If you need a summer treat, this place is a staple of locals!

SOOOOO GOOD 9 love it all best ice cream flavors and some are mostly dairy free and gluten free . Prices went up since last year but who's hasn't ?

AWESOME local spot for ice cream and more! On warm summer nights, it's crowded until it closes. The staff keeps the line moving, though. Staff take orders and you pay when they're fulfilled. You don't wait at the window while they're working on your order, though. There are two windows and at least 6 people back there making the ice cream magic happen. Expect to pay cash. My husband and I live their soft serve, and that seems to be what most order. However, they also make specialty hard ice creams and there are options for slushies, water (Italian) ice, and some other stuff, too. The sundaes look to die for! Great locals spot! 10/10!!!!

I ordered the double scoop cone of pistachio and maple walnut ice cream. The staff was friendly, fast and efficient, even though it was quite busy. They only except cash, but are inexpensive. Definitely worth going back in the future. Totally recommend this establishment if you are looking for a treat!!

Great local place to bring family and friends! Really inexpensive and amazing local ice cream! The best spot on the island! Staff is really helpful and courteous. They have plenty of flavors as well as a variety of options for ice cream and frozen drinks.

Absolutely delicious soft serve and hard ice cream. They have a huge menu with tons of options to choose from. We loved our ice cream. The place gets packed and the line goes around the side of the building, but it moves at a steady pace. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that they have no tables or benches to sit and eat your ice cream. That's the only gripe I have. The ice cream is top notch though. Try it if you are in the area.

Spotted this ice cream shop on our way back home and tried the vanilla/coffee twist soft serve ice cream here. It was DELICIOUS. Mint chocolate chip hard ice cream was also probably the best mint choc chip I've had thus far. Highly recommend, especially the vanilla/coffee twist!!

Looking for a after dinner treat during our weekend in Rhode Island, quick search on Yelp and we're off to Frosty Freeze. It's your typical ice cream stand building with two ordering windows. Be prepared to wait because there's always a line around the corner. The line does move quickly and it's cash only. They have several different varieties of soft serves, Hershey's ice cream and even cold treats for your 4 legged friends. I ordered the medium cherry soft serve and my fiancé got the watermelon sherbet both we're good and satisfied our sugar craving.

How could you say anything bad about this place? It's prefect, thank you, please never change! Willing to wait in lone as long as it takes. We love you frosty freez!

Surprisingly great, very small shop but the place has a lot of options and most importantly the ice cream is great. I never had dipped ice cream before but it was incredible. I recommend it if you are in area. Make sure to swing by.

From someone who comes from a small town in MA that happens to have the BEST ice cream in New England... wow, this place sucks. The ice cream is literally ice cream you can buy from atop &shop or Shaw's... I much prefer homemade establishments. Dear owner, You're clearly offended by my comment. If so many people love your terrible ice cream than my opinion shouldn't matter. Good day!

*CASH ONLY* I can see why this is a local haunt. It's got character, and it's in the best location - On the way home from the beach! They must be cranking out the hard ice cream and soft serve like mad here since there is ALWAYS a line wrapping around the corner. It does, as reported move very quickly. They have a neat little system that keeps no one waiting long or clogging up what little standing space there is. For those who enjoy the "going out for ice cream" experience, this one may not be for you. Its a Good stop off heading home from a day out or at the beach in Newport, ultra painless with kids or pets. But there really isn't anywhere to sit. There is a parking lot on either side of the small building but you just sit in your car in a hot small parking lot to eat or take it to go. There's also an apartment building in this parking lot, it made me feel so weird lapping up soft serve with someone's bay window full view of the scene. I may not have signed THAT lease. But nonetheless, it's a good deal. Very inexpensive and they seem to capitalize on the fact that no one wants to sit and eat heaps of ice cream in the car, so they will whip up any flavor you like into a shake, even one with coffee! The soft serve choices are a somewhat dizzying but when you break it down its all similar choices with different dips/toppings. Really cute and cool flavor combinations are possible. The hard ice cream is Hershey's which I used to love but since trying some other brands I have found to be bland. The soft serve is Garelick and they do a damn good job/. I had a coffee vanilla swirl straight up and I wish I had ordered a large. It was magnificently creamy and cool and so welcome after a long windy beach day.Bring Cash.

Got the vanilla/coffee twist soft serve dipped in chocolate & it was so good! I never found a soft serve ice cream shop that provides coffee as a flavor, so I was thoroughly impressed and pleased! The icecream was yummy!

If you live in RI, you know what's up. This place is so nostalgic and enjoyable with friends and family it's a small spot where u can grab ice cream whenever

After a day at the beach this place is a must stop! I definitely would recommend the soft serve over hard ice cream (it's Hershey's so nothing too special). Vanilla soft serve with chocolate dip is my usual and it's always yummy! The line is usually super long in the summer but it moves quickly. There is some outdoor seating or you can eat it in the car. I dare say this is the most popular spot for ice cream on the island.

Without a doubt the best place to order a soft serve ice cream. When I order here I get a small coffee/vanilla swirl on a cone, and automatically feel disappointed when it's finished. I've been coming to this place for 14 years now, thanks to my parents, and I can't get enough. Like most ice cream places they only accept cash, which can be annoying sometimes, but the taste of the ice cream sure does make up for it!

Takes me back to Summer as a kid. Soft serve ice cream and picnic tables, yes! A great place to stop at and grab a tasty treat. They do not accept credit/debt cards so bring some cash! Very reasonably priced too, a kid soft serve sized come for under $2. It does get super busy so parking might be an issue, but the line moves quickly so you won't be waiting long. Definitely worth a stop!

As good as it gets for soft serve ice cream. Love the old iconic dairy stand of the 1950s era. Very few of those left, great local venue. Very clean seating area to the side of the building and plenty of parking. Servers were friendly, plain vanilla, chocolate dipped and cotton candy mix dairy were all great. Portions were generous as well.

Ahhhh the classic and delicious ice cream shack everyone wish they had in their town This is it The sweetest service with a smile and patience and care we all appreciate in hot summer days when we need that cold treat and and have a nice ahhhhhh moment The choices are great never boring the portions are just right to satisfy a craving but not make u feel guilty or sick and the price is what it should be

I go here many times a week. This business is an amazing part of our community. They employ local high school kids and have the greatest soft serve ever. Don't be afraid of the long lines they move very quickly. I am a member of the Rhode Island Salt Water Angler's and get a 10%discount for that.

Frosty Freez is AMAZING! I come here all the time with my family and we absolutely love it. Their prices are great, the staff is friendly and their various frozen treats are quite delectable! Frosty Freez is simply the best of the best. My whole family has Frosty Freez T-Shirts as we love to represent such a wonderful company. This is definitely the place to go when in need of ice cream!

Frosty Freez is a Aquidneck Island tradition. They're open April 1st through September 30th and no matter what the weather is doing on April 1st, the whole island shows up for that first ice cream of the season. There could be a blizzard going on and we'll all still be standing there freezing our asses off in that long line, seeing all our old friends for the first time in 6 months and waiting to drink that perfect milkshake or eat the banana split you've been craving all winter. I've been coming to Frosty Freez since I was a child, then as a teenager when I got my first car, I remember searching under the seats for enough change to get an ice cream cone, then as an adult coming here with my family and nieces and nephews. Introducing friends visiting to Frosty Freez because you're not allowed to visit Aquidneck island and not make a stop here. Its that good. The friendly service is part of what makes Frosty Freez unique. You're not going to get that at a chain take out place, or even off the island. This island stands together through good times and bad times and Frosty Freez is always going to be there.. to make the good times even better. Theres only 2 more days left. Get there.

Great selection of flavors, toppings, and drinks (slushees, sodas and water too). Soft serve is fantastic! This was our first time here and we will definitely be back- a pretty popular spot! Service was wonderful!

I am an ice cream fanatic and when I tell you that no one scoops ice cream like Jessica, I mean it. That girls efficiency and positivity makes the ice cream the second sweetest thing in the building. Great prices and great ice cream! (get the soft serve)

I wish I took a photo of mine for this review, but it was soo hot I forgot!! The ice cream is always delicious! My favorites are the black raspberry, and the moose tracks! Luckily for us on a 90+ degree day, the line wasn't long. I ordered the moose tracks to the harder ice cream would hopefully allow me more time to eat it. The prices are fair, and if I could have one request. It would be for them to be open all year!

Stopped to check this place out after an afternoon at the beach, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The line wrapped around towards the back but moved really quickly. It seemed like there was a good selection of hard ice creams and soft serve at very good prices - between around $1.50 and $3 depending on the size. I got the vanilla soft serve with chocolate dip coating, and it was definitely one of the better soft serves that I've had. They also have other toppings (sprinkles, nuts, cherry dip) and an option for flavor-burst which swirls extra flavors into the soft serve. All in all an awesome ice cream shop!
