Milkshakes From Frugals Restaurant in Tacoma Linked to a Deadly Listeria Outbreak | Eater Seattle

"Linked to a listeria outbreak by a Washington State Department of Health investigation, the Tacoma location of the Frugals burger chain was found to have incorrectly cleaned ice cream machines that investigators determined were responsible for infections that resulted in six hospitalizations and three deaths. Two of the hospitalized people reported having Frugals milkshakes, prompting authorities to focus on the drive-thru stand; Frugals posted on Instagram that it was "deeply saddened" by the connection and said it had halted milkshake sales, sent the implicated machines away for thorough cleaning, and stopped milkshake sales at all seven of its Washington and Montana locations while testing. The company also said it will adopt enhanced cleaning, safety, and sanitation procedures across all products and stores; the Tacoma restaurant stopped using the machines on August 8. Health officials note listeria can take up to 70 days to cause illness and advise pregnant people, those over 65, or people with weakened immune systems who had a Frugals milkshake between May 29 and August 7 and show symptoms to contact their healthcare provider." - Harry Cheadle

This place is definitely a good burger spot! Just thought the burger patties lacked seasoning and the fries were ok not the best but other than that good spot.

Drive thru only. I thought they were quick even though they apologized to me for my wait and gave me a 2 dollar off my next purchase. But I didn’t think they were slow but wasn’t going to turn down the two dollars. It tasted like good fast food. I wish my fries had been fresher but maybe they were and cooled off a bit on my drive home. But they were fine not the best fries but completely edible :) but I thought the burger and sandwich were yummy.

We probably order the cheeseburgers at Frugals averaging about once a month for years. Today they were the BEST we’ve ever had and I went back and gave compliments to the chef! 👍 I think people are so quick to give out complaints … I’m happy to give praise when they exceed expectations!

The best burger joint in town. The food is on point and the customer service is top tier. Do your self a favor and get extra fry sauce, your taste buds will thank you later. Also the Huckleberry shake is a must. Bc The manager makes sure every order is perfect, fast and efficient! Go get a burger you won't be disappointed

Delicious shoe string fries and burgers! I really enjoyed my Oreo shake. The person taking orders was also super personable and went out of his way to be kind. Love this place.

Solid burger joint. Great food, good value. Patty was fresh, fries were solid, no complaints there. Only knock is they forgot my drink. Not a dealbreaker, but annoying enough to drop a star. Would go again, just double check your order.
