Fruit Jesus Is Once Again Bringing Produce to the People in San Francisco | Eater SF

"I met Konstantin Kosov, a long-bearded, free-spirited fruit prophet whom people call Fruit Jesus; he bikes to San Francisco farmers’ markets, loads up as much as a thousand pounds of produce on his trailer, and used to deliver to about 80 downtown offices, keeping teams stocked with mandarins and strawberries and introducing skeptics to pluots and canary melons. When the recent crisis emptied offices he went quiet for six weeks, lost half his clients, ran a “cherry layaway” to help during the June glut, and parked his RV at the base of Potrero Hill, but he’s back now and expanding into home delivery. Customers email their contact info, budget, and requests; the minimum is $25 per week, delivery days are Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, and he keeps a third of the fee while spending the rest on fruit. He refuses to do bananas because they’re not local and won’t wash fruit (which he says can compromise thin-skinned specimens), makes no guarantees about exact box contents, and may add milk, eggs, greens, and locally grown spirulina to offerings. To tackle spread-out residential drop-offs he’s using a van and recruited friends—planning two cars for the hills and two bicycles for the flats—and will deliver anywhere within city limits (he even plans weekly drops for his grandma in the Bayview)." - Becky Duffett

Google
The Fruitful Dreams drink shop is actually a combined store with the fruit and vegetable stand next door, also called Fruitful Dreams. Good place to get fresh fruit and produce, too

Google
Our eyes caught on plenty of fruits Tanghulu at the front of the store. It is located just beside the side walk on the fridge display. Those looks pretty good. If i am not wrong I saw strawberry and green grapes. We got a strawberry Tang hulu for to go. The sugar glaze looks so shiny and crunchy. We got really good service, polite and smiley. I want to try their fruit tea and juice too next time.

3/18 I returned to Fruitful Dreams today and tried their Mango Pomelo Sago (楊枝甘露), a dessert I loved in Hong Kong. It was just as delicious! While the mango had a slightly tart edge, it was incredibly refreshing. Fruitful Dreams has definitely become my favorite juice shop, and I plan to explore their full menu. 3/13 I visited Fruitful Dreams, a new fruit and juice shop in Chinatown, and had their papaya smoothie. It was incredibly delicious, reminiscent of the papaya milk I enjoyed in Taiwan. I could tell it was made with real papaya!

Google
Thangulus are great. Didn’t enjoy the sugar cane very much, maybe because im Brazilian and the sugar cane here have different flavor not sure but was a very delicate flavor what is way different from what I expected. Also I ask to add lemon or lime juice on it and they only add a lemon slice inside.

Google
Came upon this place by accident while visiting the bakery up the street. The fruit here is amazing. I've seen several videos of this being made but never imagined it would be so delicious! Definitely coming back

Google
One of the most refreshing fruit teas I’ve had. The flavor was there and I love that it wasn’t too sweet.

Google
The drinks are pretty good and the staff are really nice. The only problem I have is that the drinks aren’t fully filled. Especially the premium jasmine green milk tea. The drink always has about an inch of empty space and you’re apparently supposed to drink it with the thin/flat straw to get more of the flavor but, they sometimes give you a regular straw instead so it doesn’t taste as good. Other than that, the drinks are good and I would recommend this place.

Google
Fruit tea is so worth trying, it was the perfect amount of sweet and the shop overall is really nice with a cute photo op

Yelp
This is now my favorite and go-to fruit tea shop in Chinatown! I've gotten the following: (9.5/10) Sun Kissed Peach Blend - Has chunks of peach and it just tastes so good! I got 25% sugar and it was just right, especially because the fruits already have a natural sweetness. (9/10) Ultimate Fruit Fusion - Massive cup, comes with a straw/spork for all the fruit in it. 25% sugar again was just right. Included pitaya, kumquat and more typical fruits like oranges, etc. making it very unique. (7.5/10) Tropical Passion Fruit - personally just not a fan of lemon tea, it was rather lemony but it does come with actual passion fruit. The tea shop also sells a variety of other items, such as fruit sandos, tanghulu. The lady that works at the counter is very nice, service is a bit slower since the drinks take longer to make. There is also a kiosk and you can order on chowbus. There's no seating and it's on a busy street (Jackson) in general. I will definitely be trying all their fruit teas at some point. The tea shop is also connected to their fruit store, so all their fruit teas are made with fresh high quality fruit. The fruit they sell is definitely more expensive than most chinatown grocery markets but they seem to be fancy and you can make nice fruit baskets.

Yelp
Again, some history here. I don't remember what occupied this store other than it being flanked by the Grandview Theater and a Chinese book and magazine store. I remember browsing at the book store for Hong Kong magazines that had photos and news about popular HK movie and TV stars. I was entranced with kung fu, specifically swordfighting movies then. About twenty years later, a couple opened a produce store that specialized in exotic and Asian fruits. The variety ranges from cherimoyas, dragon fruits, longan (dragon eyes), lychees (domestically and Asian grown) when in season, papaya, and other basic fruits. My mom used to often wander here to shop for our family as she enjoyed durian (an acquired taste for me). The ownership of this store has changed twice since the original owners retired with the most recent being in the past year. Several of the staff are holdovers from the previous business and are helpful and knowledgeable about what they sell. Good spot to find those difficult to find and, in most cases, higher end fruit varieties. Be careful though as they also tend to upsell some of their items.

Yelp
Came here because my daughter loves tang Hulu. They tried to get us for buying 2 and then you get juice. I was all in until I couldn't get sugarcane juice. I also then asked how much each one was and the prices are not displayed they are $9 each so I kindly declined the offer and the sales girl was visibly pissed. The tang Hulu was ok but it wasn't notable.

Yelp
Hi Sweetie Tea and Treats had a new sister café at the opposite side in a pleasant Chinatown slope of Jackson St. It'd be better for me to check that place out which is bursting with more juicy inspiration. First to look at, some incredible variety of fresh fruits on the market, run by a few Cantonese and Taishanese speaking ladies. Next to it, a colorful bubble tea and dessert café which is absolutely known as Fruitful Dreams! Much to decide if I come back to Fruitful Dreams the next day. For sweet crunchy various fruits on the skewers, I rather go to Tanghulu for one. This time was the right time to try other fruit flavors that has never been on my radar. Korean Melon Juice (not smoothie) was my last big taste tester. Felt like lying on a large cozy sofa when I had a sip of a new gourdy flavor. There are plenty of other numerous fruits stocked in Chinatown that I have yet to get to such as star fruit and wax gourd. Durian had given me a lingering aftertaste since it's a stinky fruit. That's why I personally stopped trying one. Props to the pretty ladies who made Fruitful Dreams come true for all walks of life. I must say this dream café must be a keeper.

Yelp
Fresh fruit juice caught my eye. I was able to mix different fruits which was an extra plus. I got the pear, Korean melon and orange juice mix. Definitely fresh and no added sugar. I will definitely come back when I'm in need of a good cup of fresh fruit smoothie or juice.

Yelp
Their sugar cane is so fresh and you can get it in a sugar cane bottle for $12. It was a big size so you can definitely share it between two people. This place used to be called Juicy Fruit, but it closed down. Luckily it's still just as good, I'm assuming they're rebranding because they have more drinks and toppings now. I came here alot and it's a hidden gem in Chinatown SF. The ladies making the drink are always really nice and tell you which fruit is fresh to blend or not into juice. I will recommend this to everyone.

Yelp
Been loving this place recently for their fresh fruit smoothies! They have a huge fruit selection and don't use any additional sweeteners in their smoothies and juices. We always call ahead and the drinks are ready by the time we arrive. Happy to see healthier drink alternatives in the neighborhood!

Yelp
This is a review for their candied fruit on a stick. The quality is inconsistent. We got one that was nice and crispy and fresh one time I liked it even though it's pricey at $10 we got a second one at a different time and brought it home and it was completely sticky and disgusting. Very difficult to eat completely stuck to our teeth. So good concept but poor execution for the price as they keep the fruit sticks too long in their display case and need better quality control.

Yelp
Such a cool concept and cute shop. They have a fruit/grocery store next door and use the fruits from next door to make all their drinks. I ordered the custom smoothie where you can choose 1-4 fruits and I chose: peach, watermelon, mango, and guava. The drink tasted very good and unique (not typical flavors and combination that I'd be able to get anywhere else) and I love that they use fresh fruits to make it. I was reminded of the fresh fruit juice/smoothie stalls I went to when I was in Hawaii. My only regret is forgetting to add boba to my smoothie, I'm looking forward to coming back to try more drinks (avocado mango sago I'm looking at you, and smoothie + boba)!

Yelp
The tanghulu display caught our attention - we decided to get a long fruit tanghulu and a sugar cane drink with no ice. The employees were quite nice but here's what we thought about the food. The strawberries on the tanghulu were MASSIVE. All the aunties were asking about them because they are a fairly new store and many people were attracted to it. The sugar coating on them however was a little too thick - it was very hard to even take a bite of the fruit. It was also quite pricy for some tanghulu, but it's SF so what can you expect, right? Would I recommend? As an Asian who has had tanghulu in China, no not really. It's good for the people that haven't tried it before though. They picked the good fruit but the sugar is just too thick. The sugar cane juice was ok.

Nadia Z.

Yelp
Best Mango Sago, exactly the same like in Hong Kong! Not much sugar and a lot of real mango! Definitely go to try if you are around!

Yelp
Not common to find trendy Asian desserts and tanghulu so was extremely excited to try this place. Staff here was so friendly! The only downside was I think the tanghulu batch we got might not have been at the proper heat and wasn't quite crystallized so if they could perfect that skill it would def be a 5 star.
google avatar

Priscilla D.

Yelp
Our family loves their freshly squeezed orange juice. They let you know sometimes the fruits may not be as ripe and will have a bit of sourness, which is fine by us. The staff are also super friendly and kind. The place is very colorful and they also have a bench for you to sit.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Way stickier than I expected. Fruit was so fresh! Street was busy but that's to be expected.

Aaron C.

Yelp
New fruit juice stall in Chinatown that replaced the previous one. They have mulberry which is a relatively uncommon flavor here. The drink was around $8 and tasted like fresh mulberries I've had in the past. Really solid and unique spot if you're looking for something different other than the usual boba spots all over the bay.

Yelp
Place has good drinks definitely but the Tanghulu here is actually the worst thing me and my kids have tried. It's so sticky and sticks onto ur teeth. Tastes like you're about to get a heart attack and overall really bad. If you're coming here don't get the tanghulu but the drinks are nice.

Courtney S.

Yelp
Fantastic place. Very friendly and accommodating. We had a Chinatown tour and were able to schedule 25 juices ahead of time so that they were ready when we got there. Everyone loved their drinks and found it very flavorful and refreshing. I had the mulberry juice which they managed to get at the right level of flavor and not too sweet. I'll be back to try more of their menu!

David W.

Yelp
I usually get my mango pomelo sago but I stumbled upon fruitful dreams. I saw avocado mango sago on their menu and being a sago fanatic, I instantly had to try it. It's so smooth and refreshing. Definitely coming back for more.

Mary D.

Yelp
I ordered a mango pomelo sago and every ingredient they used was super fresh and sweet. I heard they have very good sugar cane juice as well which I will bring my husband to try next time. The sweet girl introduced me to tanghulu which is apparently a sugar coated fruit skewer. It looks so shiny and yummy, which sold me. WOW the strawberry was something else! So juicy and sweet! Definitely worth the price! I'd highly recommend this new store, so cutely decorated too! If anyone is around Chinatown, stop by for a sweet snack, it won't disappoint ;)

Jazmine O.

Yelp
so glad that the spot is available on Uber Eats! If you're looking to try Tanghulu, I would highly recommend! 10/10!!! please support this amazing local business!!

Adam S.

Yelp
New items on the menu! It is jack fruit tanghulu & dragonfruit crystal jelly! Gotta go for dragonfruit jelly taste so delicious gotta add condense milk with it.

Jaslin T.

Yelp
Fantastic! I gave it a try, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Customer service was also really great. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
This place is sooo... good ! Right in the heart of Chinatown they are new and upcoming and very friendly. Definitely one of our must go too when in town. My family absolutely loved it! If you're in town definitely stop by for a fun sweet treat you will love it.
