L Fish, One of LA’s Best Fish Taco Spots, Returns After Two Year Hiatus | Eater LA
"After well more than two years of being closed, L Fish has returned to East LA under brothers Juan Robert Sanchez and Ulysses Sanchez, using a recipe given to them by the owners of Tacos El Fenix in Ensenada; the stand had earned a spot on the Eater 38 best tacos in 2018 but abruptly closed in March of that year due to permitting problems and inexperience, and they vowed to return once they found the right space. I’m happy to report they reopened in early August as a street stand in the front parking lot, shaded by a long white L Fish banner, with Juan running a lowrider mechanic shop on top of the taco spot so you can get work done on your Chevy Impala while you wait. The Baja California–style fish and shrimp tacos are better than ever: a light, crisp golden-brown fry atop good corn tortillas from a neighborhood tortilleria, executed among the best in Los Angeles with Pocho rules. A fresh, enticing condiment bar offers well-made standards like pico de gallo, grated cabbage, pickled onions, and salsas, plus sour cream, creamy chipotle, and chile serrano sauces in squirt bottles. They are open noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays)." - Bill Esparza
