Back at our happy place, and Fuegos never fails to surprise us with their fresh changes that brighten every visit. The outdoor dining area is bright and welcoming, and there's even a huge heart on the building that lights up, showcasing the love the owners pour into this place. It's not just about the food; it's about how you're treated and the warmth of the community that gathers here. You meet new friends, and honestly, it feels like a family that's always ready to embrace you. While many refer to the venue simply as Fuegos, I prefer to think of it as Max and Fede's place because it transcends the typical restaurant vibe; it's so much more than that.
When I arrived, the atmosphere was already lively, with Fede putting coals to work for grilling Argentine beef, which is renowned for its exceptional quality. According to argentinebeefusa.com, it's considered some of the best in the world--free of antibiotics, with most of the production occurring on natural pastures and grasslands. This dedication to quality shines through in their menu items, from the Hand Cut Beef Empanadas to the Argentinian Style Burger and Lomito Sandwich made with Filet Mignon, all of which taste unbelievably !
I was especially excited to try the brunch items, particularly the medialunas, which I hadn't had in years. Back when I lived in Buenos Aires, I enjoyed them nearly daily with café con leche to kick-start my mornings. I'm so grateful to Max and Fede for bringing these sweet treats to Los Angeles. I was pleasantly surprised to find medialunas filled with dulce de leche, which surpassed my memories--these are truly so wonderful with their outstanding recipe. They also offer a ham and cheese version. Whether you choose them plain or filled, they are remarkable, but the breakfast empanada with chimichurri is an absolute must. I took a bite and had a "WTF" moment; it was beyond delicious!
Next was the burger, which the hubby thoroughly enjoyed. The Argentine spices brought a depth of flavor to this incredibly rich, cheesy, and juicy creation. For me, the Lomito Sandwich was the winner. The BBQ grill touch on the filet mignon, combined with arugula, roasted peppers, and a perfectly crisp fried egg, created a bussin'-bussin' combination of flavors. All of this was in a ciabatta roll, and of course, it was served with fries and sauce.
We couldn't resist having some wine, and Max was happy to share his favorite: a 2022 Los Bocheros Malbec. It's so smooth, with notes of plum, cherry jam, mocha, and cola, complemented by flavors of blackberry, chocolate, and coffee. We ordered another round!
What I never expected was a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream, but Fede surprised us, and once again, I was blown away. This ice cream had incredible depth and intense flavor that felt remarkably fresh. I learned it's his mother's recipe, and I could taste the love.
We love chatting and laughing with these guys and sharing stories. They mentioned that Phil Rosenthal visited and declared their empanadas the best he's ever had. While you might not take our word for it, you can definitely trust Phil! I can't recommend this place enough. I love seeing these guys, how they make us feel at home, how they serve the most amazing food, and how there are always unexpected surprises.
