12 Best Dumpling Restaurants in San Jose and the South Bay | Eater SF

"Even as a smaller shop, Fuji Huoshao & Dumpling is known for its plump, chewy, and flavorful dumplings and stuffed flatbread called huoshao, a Beijing street food. The most popular dumpling orders consist of the Three Deluxe, which are filled with pork, chives, and shrimp. The dumplings are filled and folded at the counter by hand, and they can be steamed, or pan-fried for an extra dollar. The shop also has an array of frozen pre-made dumplings for sale — a great option for those who want to take some dumplings home for a quick meal later." - Cathy Park

I really like the beef huoshao here! Inside is juicy but soup isn't spilling out, outside is flaky. The lamb and 3 flavor dumplings were also good. I like how it's hot but not so hot I immediately burn my mouth. You can almost eat it immediately. The lamb soup was flavorful too if you like lamb. In general I'd come back again, it's a small little shop with very nice staff.

Google
Pricy. I dont recommend Lamb w/Noodle 14.99. They give tiny bowl with tons of Noodle ( not good, fully cooked but nothing special). The reason I dont recommend the Noodle for 14.99 is you hardly get any soup. The Lamb soup taste like MSG? Or my Dad complain that you cannot taste No Lamb flavour for 14.99 we would be better to order the Lamb soup for 10.99 No noodle. Just go to Pho Banh Mi, the soup is light there but no MSG. My Dad said it is not worth 50 or 60 dollars. Kind of Rip off. Maybe the dumpling were better but expensive. They force you to tip 18 percent, so I wrote this review to warn people. The service is not there. You have to ask for Refil ( they charge $ 2 for hot tea and dont refill unless you ask). You also have to ask for togo container. They dont really check to see if everything is Ok. I would have ask for hot water ( since they charge 2 dollar for tea) just ask for extra hot water for the cold soup. Since they hardly give you any soup it becomes cold soon. All my Dad order was pig ears ( not good, you get better pig ear at chinese supermarket), Woodear ( I dont know why he orders this mushroom, nothing special) & he order the Fried Huoshao...I dont know what it is called but it is only six for 12 dollars. That was the only thing that was good but I was not in mood for it. The oil spill out. I simply ask Dad to order chicken soup but he never let me order. Anyhow, it was not worth it. I would have given it one star but gave them two stars because the fried buns were good...just kind of rip off. I'd come help them on the weekend ( I think they are hiring) because I would give better service but I hate ripping people off and would be embarrassed to charge 14.99 lamb noodle with tiny bowl and hardly any soup.

The dumplings are all handmade and fresh!!! As a huge fan of dumpling, this place is definitely authentic! We don’t favor the seaweed but everything else are all soooooo good!

Google
My boyfriend was very happy about this place because he said it was very authentic and it reminded him of his grandma's cooking. I enjoyed it as well. The dumplings and noodle soup were nice and simple. I do prefer Huoshao over the normal dumplings though because the skins were too thick for me.

Google
Small mom and pop restaurant that serves freshly made dumplings. And the lamb soup is also worth a try. The seaweed and cucumber are just ok, I will try something else next time.

Google
A small family run restaurant with fast and friendly service. their pork and chive dumplings were very fresh and well seasoned, each one is filled with meat juice just like the Xiao Long Bao! The beef Huo Shao Bao and Lamb noodle soup tasted pretty good too. Definitely want to try their other dumpling flavors next time.

Google
This is a cozy shop that sells amazing dumplings and soups. They make the most delicious food with very simple ingredients and traditional techniques from northeast China. The lamb soup was so light but rich with flavor, and full of soft cubes of lamb. The huoshao and dumplings are amazing with a little chili oil and black vinegar. You can also buy larger quantities of dumplings to go, if you’re having a party, and even bags of 50 frozen ones so you can steam them yourself later and have them every day.

Google
Authentic handmade noodles and huoshao with friendly service. I really liked the noodles, which had just the right amount of "bite". The lamb soup was tasty and not overly seasoned to where you couldn't taste the natural flavors like in some other places. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Came primary for the dumpling. And the curiosity of their HuoShao 火燒, typically a northern China thing. So we ordered those. Then, why not, tried their lamb scraps soup 羊雜湯, meant to be the soup of scraps of lamb. Dumplings were quite eatable. I will come again for those. The others were not remarkable, yet not bad. I probably wouldn't do the soup again, it was very diluted from flavors. Guess this is a good place for simple comfort foods for a non-stressed meal. Many came for their frozen to-go items. I can see the appeal. The problem is that category (simple comfort Chinese foods) is now very crowded in this area.

Yelp
My boyfriend says this is literally the only place you find this kind of food and lol if you scroll down enough or maybe even the next review, you'll read his for a more in-depth and detailed review on this type of cuisine. I can't comment much about my own knowledge, but if something is good, I'll just eat it and this was a great place to get lunch! It's a small, family owned restaurant, but you can tell that it is popular with the locals as most of the tables were filled. Service was very polite and helpful and very efficient for how many tables there were. We got the: 1) Cold noodle with meat sauce: -This reminds me of the black bean noodles, but as a meat sauce you get way more meat to it. It's a bit denser too because of that, but still pretty good. Nice and filling for cold noodles and comes with generous portion of thinly sliced cucumber to add some crunchy texture as well. 2) Lamb soup: -Nice big hot bowl of lamb soup. -Soup broth had a strong lamb flavor to it and there's a good amount of offal and some cut scallions in it too. -Decent dish. I'm not the biggest enjoyer of offal, but I was able to enjoy a bit of it. 3) Beef Huoshao (6 pieces): -Honestly my first time trying this dish and it's really easy to eat. Not offense at all. -If you have friends that like empanadas or Hot Pockets but wanna try something more "exotic" this is a great dish to suggest to them or to order when you take them here (cuz apparently you can't get this anywhere else!). -To me, they remind me of less flaky, chewy pate chaud which has more of a croissant breading and a bigger beef patty inside. -These huoshao are more flattened but have a nice weighty denseness to them so you don't feel like you're gonna starve after. The breading outside has multiple layers and these pieces taste good dipped in soy sauce and vinegar. I'd go back again!

Yelp
Oh my goodness. This is so good for a noodle soup. It has the essentials. Broth, meat and noodles. There isn't anything glamorous about this meal. It is for the simple days. The times when days are rough and you need a warm hot broth with chewy noodles and lamb. The lamb of the free. Home of the brave. This is for the days when you feel like your heart is in need of warmth. When on a cold winter's day, your mind starts to think, is Christmas coming yet? Then you come here (before 8pm) to feast on these noodles. Only $14 or $15. And just look at all that meat. By the way. The lamb dumplings are amazing. Game changer. Bought a pack of 50 frozen cause I loved them so much

Yelp
This place has no competition. No, like literally, I am not aware of any other restaurant in the entire country that serves huoshao. If you google huoshao in English, you literally only get this restaurant. In short, if you go here, you are basically getting a regional cuisine that you cannot get anywhere else in the English-speaking world. I think by default, this place gets five stars by virtue of being the best restaurant in the entire country in the cuisine they specialize in (as they are the only such restaurant). That being said, it helps that the restaurant is also pretty good on its own merits as well. Unsurprisingly, Fuji Huoshao and Dumpling specializes in huoshao and dumplings. Huoshao is a meat pastry from inland Northeast China, apparently supposedly popularized by the Manchu maybe. It's traditionally eaten with lamb offal soup - sometimes translated elsewhere as Chinese Haggis (which is honestly a bizarre translation) which they conveniently also serve. If you were not familiar with the cuisine, you might even mistake it for fusion food - which it is in the sense that almost all food starts out as fusion food (see e.g., Japanese curry). Pretty much most of the items on the menu are authentic traditional foods from Northeast Chinese, so mainly pastries (like dumplings and huoshao) or noodle dishes. I am not sure if they have rice on the menu, but it'd be probably pretty weird to order rice here. Their huoshao is actually interesting to me - it was a lot flakier and puffier than I traditionally have had it. So arguably it's a fancier, tastier huoshao. I guess that's their unique improvement and it's pretty good. The lamb offal soup was good. It's pretty much what you expect, definitely simmered for a good amount of time to be flavorful. Gets the job done. I had the zajian noodles, which was filling and tasty. It was also a unique dish because it was kind of a halfway point between Korean-style jajangmen and the Shandong-style (aka the kind you typically see in Chinese restaurants). I can't completely tell, but I think there's a nice soybean paste that gives it better flavoring than usual. Highly recommended for hungry people! I say this in the best possible way, but this is actually a pretty good place to take friends who don't like Chinese or Asian food to - precisely because it's so authentic. Minus the dipping sauce (which is yeah, soy sauce and vinegars), Northeastern Chinese food isn't really categorized by many of the same taste palettes or staple foods that characterize other Asian cuisines. The cuisine is also...not particularly popular in China itself, so it's not that easy to find. So definitely a place everyone should try out, even picky eaters! Hope to go back soon and have the dumplings too! Definitely recommend everyone stop by this once-in-a-country opportunity dining experience!!

Yelp
Cash only for frozen dumplings sale and under $25 purchases is the biggest bummer here. The service is excellent. It was quiet lunchtime when I arrived at 1 pm with no customers, but the restaurant looked clean and organized. There were two ladies wrapping dumplings as I made my order, and they asked me to wait while the cook made the fresh huoshao. They were courteous and friendly while I stayed there. They offered me to sit down, waiting for my takeout. It's my first time here, and I was curious about their huoshao, which seems to be a semi-fried/baked pancake with meat inside. You can choose pork or beef; each order comes with 6, but you cannot mix and match, which is a pity. I picked the pork one and could smell the freshly fried smell when the order was delivered. So, it passes the fragrant smell test. When I tasted it, it was okay; I wish there was more flavor in the meat filling, but I also hope it's not too salty. At the same time, the filling needs to be more pungent in taste since the dough is mostly bland flour. They also sell frozen dumplings; a bag of 50 is around $30 and a box of 30 is $25. but they're cash-only, which is uncommon nowadays.

Yelp
Second time here! I'm back to get their beef huoshao! I can't find anywhere else that has this kind of food. I really like it! Flaky skin with well marinated beef inside. I also ordered a lamb dumpling this time, it has a very strong lamb taste which neither me nor my husband could handle, but if you like lamb taste you will like this. There's soup inside each dumpling. The person who answered the called and gave me food was very polite, she also told me how to cook the frozen huoshao at home (yes I also bought a bag of frozen beef huoshao! Can't wait to try it!)

Yelp
I'm craving dumplings today and tried the beef huoshau and lamb and onion dumplings at this place. I ordered to go; the server was really nice! He helped me right away and the service was fast. Small, cozy place and friendly service! Will definitely be back, the beef huoshau was good!

Yelp
Love this spot. Parking was free and easy in the lot out front (entrance on Miller Ave). A small restaurant but a decent amount of seating inside. Simple menu, easy to follow. We ordered for takeout, and service was super friendly and helpful. And our food was ready in less than 15 minutes. We got the beef huoshao, three deluxe pork, chive, shrimp dumplings (pan fried), and lamb with onion dumplings (pan fried), and all of our dishes were cooked perfectly and had really great flavor. We especially loved the beef huoshao, which were like flat flaky biscuits of goodness (reminiscent of pate chaud vietnamese pastries, which we love). I also really liked the lamb dumplings, not too gamey in taste, which made it rather delicious. Honestly, everything was good, so I'd certainly return for the same dishes, and try more on their menu too.

Yelp
Wow the lamb noodles knocked my socks off. Very friendly folks work here. It's small and unpretentious but also not expensive and the food came quick. I liked the pork Huoshao dumplings too, but the noodles were really a revelation and I will look forward to coming here again to enjoy them all over again. :)

Yelp
Saw they sold beef huoshao and had to try it. Also saw a video on yelp that showed how crispy they are which made me want them more! I placed an order (1 order comes with 6 huoshao) for pick up as I needed to pick up the kid right after. As soon as I got there, the worker immediately greeted me and said he would be right with me. He finished up with the customer in front of me and then asked how he can help me. Right before I finished telling him I am here to pick up my order he already remembered and packed it for me. The transaction was was and easy and I was off to pick up my kid. Before I left the parking lot I had to take a quick bite. It was good, but the not as crispy as I thought and some pieces were a bit dry inside. I would say about half was dry and half was decently juicy. If there were flakier and juicier I would be back. I was hoping to love these, but they were ok.

Yelp
Solid hand made dumplings, honest mom & pop service. I come here frequently. Today for lunch, I had -- spicy pig ear -- lamb dumplings -- beef huoshao. these smell amazing and fresh Attentive service. You can see the family hand making dumplings.

Yelp
I wish there's Chinese characters on this Yelp page. My sister insisted wanting to show me Fuji Houshao 福記火勺 and I mistakenly thought it's was a Japanese restaurant. The signature dish is huoshao or 火勺 aka "Baked Wheaten Cake" in English. It's a flat bun filled with beef or pork, which is very new to me. I was here because of lamb Mutton soup aka lamb inners soup. The soup has a uniformed taste either meat or inners. I have tried both. We also tried pork chives 猪肉韭菜 and pork with sauerkraut 猪肉酸菜 dumplings. They are freshly wrapped and very tasty. It has little bit of soup in each dumpling. I only found out when I tried to take a video as I split open the dumpling. I took one bite and dumpling is gone. Overall, service and food were excellent. Prices are very reasonable and yes, I shall return. Oh, remember, it closes between 2:30 and 4:30 daily.

Yelp
Great place for some authentic huoshao and dumplings! We came here at 2pm on a Saturday and the place was half full. The service was good and really quick. The dumplings and huoshao had so much flavor in the filling. I loved them. We also ordered the cucumbers and I really enjoyed them. Very vinegary We also ordered the pig ear but I didn't like it. The cut was too big so it was more chewy than crunchy. But overall great food

Yelp
I came here with my sister and friends on a Wednesday evening. We were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered the lamb noodle soup and it was delicious. The bone broth was light and warm. The lamb was soft and easy to chew. The ratio of noodles to meat was a bit off, leaving you with a lot of noodles. My sister got the shredded pork noodle soup which was more flavorful but we both preferred the lamb noodle soup. We all tried the pig ears but wouldn't get it again. I can't wait to try the dumplings and huoshao next time.

Yelp
it's a small casual place that we found by accident and have a good experience. We had beef huoshao, lamb with onion dumplings and shrimp dumplings. Taste was interesting and good. They have some other unusual plates that we would like to come back to try.
google avatar

Yelp
I was introduced to this place many year's ago. I really love there handmade dumplings. Many many year's ago I recall buying a bag of 50 dumplings for 25-27 dollars but in time everything is going up in price. Even though a bag of 50 cost $30-$33 dollars. I highly highly going here to buy a bag or two. I've tried many places, or store bought dumplings but Nothing could ever compare to their's. Best I've ever had. I normally boiling them.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
It was pretty good at the beginning. I bought frozen dumplings here for a couple of times. Then the quality declined after that. The dumplings were not well wrapped and each of them was broken after cooking, turned into a mixture soup of meatballs and dumpling wrappers....... Will not come back.
google avatar

Cathy J.

Yelp
I was at my friend's house when he brought out a plate of dumplings from Fuji, claiming that they're the best frozen dumplings in the area. He's a bit of a foodie and has been known to drive around searching for good eats, so I knew I was in for a treat. When my mom requested dumplings a few weeks later, I suggested Fuji so I pick up some frozen ones for a quick weeknight dinner. But then we discovered the huoshao! I've had various forms of meat wrapped in dough but this was a new one for me and I enjoyed it! The outside didn't taste too oily and the flakiness was lovely. As for the dumplings, we ordered my go to, the three deluxe, and the pork and cabbage, pan fried. However, I ended up switching my frozen order to the pork and cabbage since I encountered some hard chive pieces that I thought would annoy the rest of my family. The wrapper to filling ratio is excellent. I tried all of the vinegars that were at the table, but the filling is very flavorful and I didn't feel like I needed anything extra. I served our leftovers to my children for dinner and I knew we had a keeper when my daughter exclaimed, "I want to eat these forever!"
google avatar

Henry M W.

Yelp
Dumplings had a nice filling but too much dough. May need to get them panfried next time which is an extra$1 The lamb was flavorful especially with the dipping sauce and the tofu skin cold plate was perfect. Noodles in the noodles soup was spot on nice chew and density pricing was very reasonable. Woul definitely go back for tofu skin and noodle. Soup. The broth in the soup was excellent and substantial tasted like a it had Been stewing for a long time like all good bone brroths should.

Yelp
Food: Beef huo shao: came out fresh & piping hot. I thought it needed more filling. It was just okay. Lamb w/ onion dumplings: they were pretty stuffed & oozing with broth. These dumplings were the best out of the 3 dishes I got. It was a good northern style dumpling. I even left with a bag of frozen ones Zhajiangmian: noodles itself were meh Price: reasonable Service: food came out pretty fast & friendly employees. I think this is a mom & pop shop. Would I come here again? Yeah prob for the dumplings
google avatar

Melody K.

Yelp
Came here with my sister and friends after working on a project to try out their food cause we were hungry. This is one of those mom and pop looking shops. Menu is already on the table and sauces are on the side of each table. We each ordered a bowl of noodles and one of us got a side of pig ear as well. Service was friendly and the interior was neat. Bowl was on the smaller spectrum, but food was good and the wait time wasn't too bad. We enjoyed our meal and it was a nice comfy environment to hang out at.
google avatar

Wilson M.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by the food given the unassuming appearance of the place. The lamb dumplings had a generous amount of filling and I would've ordered a couple dozen frozen if I had a cooler with me. The cold noodles were refreshing and pig ear was good as well.
google avatar

Helen W.

Yelp
I have been wanting to come this place for awhile. Jianbing (not necessarily huoshao) was a huge part of my life growing up in China. There were thousands different kinds of jianbing, but have not tried huoshao. Currently the place only offers take out. I called ten minutes ahead of time and the owner was very nice. When I got there, the order was ready. They came smaller than I excepted but price is reasonable considering there are six pieces. It's freshly made, and the meat inside tastes good. While I husband argues that they are a little dry and there could be some soup in it, I suspect that'show huoshaosupposed to taste - no soup inside. Overall I'm happy with my experience and will definitely go back for dumplings and other items.

Yelp
COVID-19 TAKEOUT Sometimes it takes a little inspiration to finish a draft that's been collecting dust. So, this morning I woke up after having a wet dream of hot AND juicy... DUMPLINGS! And, I then I remembered the ones from Fuji Huoshao & Dumpling, and my car does too. I thought I had in-car dining down with my steering wheel food tray and wetnaps. Not so...these dumplings were SO juicy, they squirted onto my windshield when biting into. I think that's a good sign of a great dumpling, yea? During COVID, Fuji Huoshao & Dumpling is offering takeout only (small mom and pop shop). You can see staff making noodles and dumplings at their back counter. M E N U * Apps: Cold seaweed, cucumber salad, black fungus, tripe, etc. ($4.99-$8.99) * Soups: Seaweed, Tofu, Lamb ($7.99-$8.99) * Noodle Soups, hand-pulled noodles: Mushroom Chicken, Lamb, Pork & Pickle ($10.99) * Huoshao: Fried pastry w/ beef or lamb (6 pc - $9.99) * Dumplings: Beef, Lamb, Pork, Triple Deluxe (shrimp, pork, chive), Squash & Egg, etc. (Dozen -$12-$14). PLUS $1 for pan-fried. * Frozen Dumplings (30 pc - $21-$23, 50 pc - $26-$29) Cc's accepted with a $25 minimum. C O V I D - 1 9 S A F E T Y P R E C A U T I O N S * Staff wore masks properly. * Table blocking small dining area with clear plastic curtains as a barrier. * Wrapped chopsticks. * Hand sanitizer available. F O O D * Beef Huoshao (6 pc - $9.99): https://bit.ly/3gpTku1 * Lamb Huoshoao (6 pc - $9.99) One of their specialties, Huoshao (aka shaobing) is a fried pastry filled with a meat patty. Like a Chinese fried mini hot pocket. On both visits, I ordered the huoshao and unfortunately, I'm not a fan of them. While the pastry is flaky, they're too greasy for my liking and the meat patty (size of a poker chip) is thin and dense. Other people seem to love the huoshao here but they're not my jam. I tried! * Lamb Dumplings, pan-fried (12 pc - $15): https://bit.ly/3sInH18 The pan-fried dumplings are hot and crunchy with golden brown bottoms and a nicely chewy wrapper. Super juicy lamb filling....so juicy, they squirted when I took a bite into them. The lamb is not overly gamey and the onions add a kiss of sweetness. BOMB dumplings! When I checked my takeout bag, there was no black vinegar so make sure to ask for some. It's a must with these dumplings. S E R V I C E All business, you come here for the food only. Both visits, I placed my order in person which was ready in 10 minutes, as quoted. If you're looking for delicious, juicy dumplings, give this mom and pop shop a try!

Yelp
Huoshao is really good. Kids loved it!!! Dumplings are fairly good too. Lamp soups are amazing. Very genuine taste.

Yelp
I really like the beef huoshao here! Inside is juicy but soup isn't spilling out, outside is flaky. The lamb and 3 flavor dumplings were also good. I like how it's hot but not so hot I immediately burn my mouth. You can almost eat it immediately. In general I'd come back again, it's a small little shop with very nice staff.

Yelp
This is the place to be if you like huo shao/ turnovers/ piroshki at all. Fantastic flakey crusts, evenly seasoned fillings, excellent umami in the fresh dumplings. The service is also excellent -- the restaurant is run by a friendly mom and pop and various relatives. My only regret is that I don't live close enough to have it more often.
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while and boy it doesn't miss, I was in the mood for lamb and their dumplings just hit. I got the 50 ct frozen ones cause I'm a greedy pig, the wrap itself is nice and Al dente, but that little bucket of lamb and onion soup that occurs when you boil it, it's like a foodie IV straight to the veins. The levels of taste just keeps climbing when you add that vinegar and hot oil, I'll be honest that 50 count didn't even last me one night. Great dumplings, bring cash, and a good ol 8.5 belly slap out of 10 for me.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I would give this place a 4 at least but they've run out of noodles on a friday and now my evening is ruined. This is entirely unacceptable as a dumpling and noodle house and I demand justice!
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
What a gem! I've been craving lamb soup as the weather is getting cold and their lamb soup hit the spot! The soup is flavored perfectly, even my husband who is usually not a fan of lamb enjoyed the soup very much. Love the dumplings, large fillings and very fresh. They also sell fresh and frozen dumplings to go, I think we'll have to come back for more soup and dumplings very soon!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my coworkers recommended Fuji Huoshao to me a long time ago and today I finally had the chance to try it out. I wasn't disappointed - their dumplings are probably the best I've had in the Bay! Definitely get: - Pork and chive dumplings - I've tried a lot of places where the dumplings wrappers are tough and dried out but these were definitely made fresh and very plump, chewy and flavorful - Beef huoshao - love the crispy exterior and juicy meat. I dipped mine in the four-in-one sauce packets they gave me and it tasted great - Noodle with meat sauce (Zhajiangmian) - it does lean on the heavier side but I still loved this Pass: - Mixed cold pig ear - the pieces were quite thick and it tasted blander compared to what most other restaurants serve
google avatar

Lana J.

Yelp
Fuji Huoshao is a little restaurant that offers an assortment of wonderful dumplings, huoshao, and zhajiangmein. All of their food is made in-house - you can usually spot at least one of their workers working on a new batch of noodles or dumpling wrappers at the counter, and someone filling/folding each dumpling by hand. The staff is so nice and I love how there's such a range of variety of dumpling fillings - pork, lamb, etc. Aside from fresh dishes that can be eaten immediately, you can also purchase frozen pre-made dumplings that can be cooked later. This option is so nice for people who do not live close by or just need options for a quick meal when they're at home. Personally, store bought frozen dumplings don't always cut it, so I always appreciate when local stores sell theirs frozen. This way, I can quickly whip up lunch, especially when I'm sick and don't have the energy and need a comforting meal. 4/5 stars because I ordered take out a few months ago and some of the dishes we ordered wasn't fresh. I'm assuming it's due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and food being purchased at a slower pace, which a lot of businesses are dealing with.
google avatar

Tristan T.

Yelp
I got the dumplings with some friends. The food and appetizers were so cold. Everything tasted frozen and they just microwaved it or something. Don't let the good reviews fool you, or they must not know better Chinese places... Had to go eat somewhere else after to fix our appetites. Don't go here for authentic food.

Yelp
We came here around 5:30pm on 1/12/21 and there were parking spots in the dimly lit parking lot. We ordered the Meat Sauce with noodles, Pork with Chives dumplings, and the beef huoshao. The Meat sauce with noodles was jammed packed full of noodles and was good to me. The Pork with Chives dumplings was good and the beef huoshao was not bad. We were full after eating and it was because we ate some donuts before coming here to pick up our food. I would recommend this place for dumplings and their huoshao. Good food here and I would come back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Used to love this place and went often pre-covid. My usual order is the beef huoshao (chinese meat pie), the three deluxe dumplings (pork, chive, shrimp), and the pork and chive dumplings. It was really cool watching them make it and it was soooo juicy and fresh. I would order my fresh food and take two 50-piece frozen dumpling bags to go (dumplings are a staple food at my house). The cooked dumplings are usually steamed. If you want it pan fried, it is +$1. Most recently, I got my usual order but was quickly unimpressed. It wasn't the same. Dry and not flavorful. They also increased the prices, which I understand and didn't mind, but they also made their portions smaller. So, quality decreased + increase price + less food = eh. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was that one time... will give another chance but not as a first pick.

Yelp
Such a gem! This small restaurant has some of the best dumplings in the Bay Area. I order takeout and recommend just giving them a call to make sure your order is received. One order of beef huashao and pork and chive dumplings are more than enough to feed two people! I'll be dreaming of the next time we get some yummy dumplings and huashao goodness!

Yelp
Found you! First time trying huoshao! Price: Huoshao $9.99 (6pc), and Pork&Chives Dumplings $11.99 (12pc). Tina's Tip: - No mix matching, but you get 12 pieces of dumplings. - Prices varies on type you choose. - Closed Mondays and must be over $25 for cc charge so bring cash just in case. - Two dishes were enough for a friend and myself. The huoshao is super fulfilling since it's doughy consistency like as we compared it to fried buns. - The dumplings were made fresh before us!

Yelp
I wanted some dumplings and I found this restaurant on Yelp. I drove over there and I noticed they have a really simple menu. I ordered only two items and was told by the server that you can pan fry the dumplings for an extra dollar. I told the server, go for it. I ordered the beef houshao which is a circular pan fried dumpling and also the lamb dumplings which is only pan-fried on the bottom. The lamb dumplings were just okay and I expected something better since they were almost $13. The beef houshao was much better and tasted like a flaky meat pie and it came out piping hot. The beef houshao is much cheaper at $8.95 and totally worth it. I highly recommend this and I have never seen this on any other restaurant menus around the San Jose area. I would come back just to get the houshao but I would pass on the dumplings.

Yelp
Like most other reviews mention their dumplings are super juicy. Love that they also sell frozen dumplings.

Yelp
A small and comfortable family style food restaurant. The menu has two types Huoshao: beef and pork, multiple types of dumpling of different fillings. It also has various choice of appetizer and some soup/noodle soup. The staff here are nice and friendly. We ordered lamb giblets soup, pork dumpling, beef Huoshao and sliced potato appetizer. The dumpling is just average level, nothing special. The lamb soup is yummy. The beef buoshao is delicious although it is kind of too oily. It has very crisp skin and juicy beef mince. The sliced potato is not over average level.

Yelp
The food was just okay; I came because I was intrigued to try the huoshao as I had never had one before. I was sort of disappointed because it wasn't flaky and the inside was kinda dry. Bit bland. We had the pork, but maybe beef would have been better? Anyway, dumplings were okay and pretty standard. The zha jiang mian was also okay, I don't have much to say to be honest. It was average, if you are hungry you'll probably eat it.

Yelp
It wasn't the healthiest meal, but it was definitely delicious. We ordered the beef huoshao, the steamed lamb dumplings, and the fried deluxe dumplings. We chose these because they were unique to us and we hadn't seen them on other menus. It was a LOT of food. We ate all of it in one sitting, and felt totally bloated after. We didn't have a favorite of the three, as they were all cooked well and great in their own ways. It was the first time we tried huoshao, and it was definitely an interesting consistency. Flakey, like a biscuit, and stuffed with seasoned beef. It was also the first time we had lamb in a dumpling, and it was likewise interesting. I'm used to having either seafood or pork in dumplings, so it felt weird (yet oddly exciting??) to try lamb. Didn't know it would work so well. What I liked about the fried dumplings were how perfectly they were fried. Crispy on one side, firm on the others. The filling was good too, though I can't remember it too well. The person I ordered from didn't speak English too well, so there was a bit of a language barrier, but she was very polite and respectful. We took our order to-go, so I can't speak for the dine-in experience, but the place was clean and the other employees seem nice, too.

Yelp
The food was ok. We ordered: - Pork huoshao - wasn't a fan of these, they were a bit greasy and had a non-Chinese taste to them (butter, perhaps?). The pork filling was like a bland minced onion flavor. Was hoping for a juicier filling. - Three Deluxe Dumpling (Pork, Chive, Shrimp) - disappointing. Tasted like boiled from frozen, the skin wasn't chewy or fresh tasting, and the filling was bland (couldn't taste any chive flavor). No dumpling sauce is provided, only sauces in packets (boo). Still love the dumplings from Dumpling Depot the most - Pork with Cabbage Fry Dumpling - it costs $1 extra to fry the boiled dumplings. Was hoping for a yummy potsticker, but the fry didn't really add that much crunch or hardness to the dumpling and the filling was bland. Still like the potstickers from Apple Green Bistro better - Minced Cold Dried Bean Curd - The dried bean curd tasted a bit old (wasn't soft and chewy) and the flavor was bland. Can't compare to the other cold dried bean curds from other restaurants

Yelp
Current Situation: Take outs available. No indoor or outdoor dining. Cash and card accepted. You can order fresh and hot take outs, fresh and uncooked dumplings and/or frozen dumplings to take home. Food: Their lamb dumplings are GOOD. The filling is flavorful but the lamb taste is not too overpowering. The dumpling skin is not too thin that it'll break easily and thick enough to have some texture. You can choose to have the dumplings boiled or pan seared; both are delicious. Price: A plate of fresh and hot dumplings you can eat right away is $12-14 (12 dumplings) Fresh made dumplings to take out $21-23 (30 dumplings) Frozen dumplings to take home $26-28 (50 dumplings)

Yelp
Oh how the mighty have fallen. This place used to be so much better but now... I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The place used to be authentic with flavorful offerings and despite its modest looks, it used to deliver on what mattered. Not anymore. Where do I start? The starters were so bland and tasteless. They looked meh, too. After a few bites, despite being hungry, I couldn't even get myself to eat more. These have to be amongst the worst if not the worst shredded potatoes I've ever tasted. They didn't look right either. The garlic eggplant smelled funky. Took a bite and wanted to throw up. There was definitely something off. Again, I was hungry, I love eggplant with garlic but I couldn't get myself to eat more than a bite. Finally, the saving grace - the dumplings! Nope. Here, you can see the chefs making the dumplings in front of you. That's one of the things that make this place feel a bit more homey and special. Except... they were stone cold. I don't mean kind'a cold. They were cold, cold. Lastly, the only thing that was and still is great - the Beef Huoshao! Nice, flaky, puffy and absolutely delicious. Alas, this alone likely won't make me come back. So sad considering this place was a bit special. Now, I can't advise anyone to get anything beyond the Beef Huoshao.

Yelp
Base on food quality and service., Would like to rate it 4.5 Beef huoshao: Beef - is machine grounded not chopped as most chefs are now practicing, Not juicy enough Shell - very crispy, smell good Very oily/greasy as if it is after deep fried instead of oven- baked Goat "intestine " soup - OK

Yelp
A classic hole in the wall dumpling shop just how I like it. Fast, fresh and affordable. If you come at the right time you can see them making the dumplings in front of you so there's dinner & a show. The flavor of the day today was pork and sourkraut. The dough was soft and delicate indicating they were molded recently and the flavors complimented each other very well. Very small place so expect a wait during dinnertime and of you can, I would recommend taking a seat facing the counter so you can see them make the dumplings.

Yelp
Awesome place! The dumplings and Huoshao here are delicious!! We ordered the following for lunch. Pork Huoshao, Beef Huoshao, Beef with onion, three deluxe, and pork with cabbage dumplings. Noodles with meat sauce cold We ordered the food to go to see how well it would travel as well. It took us about 15 minutes to get home and everything we had was delicious! The dumplings were very juicy and filled with an excellent broth. My daughter loved the beef and onion, my son loved the pork and cabbage, everyone else, mom, wife and me loved them all! Perfectly seasoned nice juicy bites! Yummmm! The Huoshao are delicious. A delicious beef or pork filling covered with a nice flaky crust. The fillings are tasty and very delicious! The Noodles with meat sauce was yummy as well. Nice meaty noodles with a delicious meat sauce and crisp vegetables make for a delicious treat. You have to try this place! It's a cozy little restaurant but the food is very very high delicious quality!

Yelp
Ate with a friend who is hard to meet up with because of distance...but it's always good when she's in town! Fuji is a cozy restaurant where you can watch the restaurant workers making fresh dumplings through the glass display at the front. They also have a simple menu with a few categories: Huoshao, Dumplings, Cold Veggie Plates, and Noodle Soups. We ordered one of their more popular dishes: Beef Huoshao. The Huoshao was nicely fried and crispy with a flavorful and thick meat patty. We also ordered some pork and chive dumplings (you get 12 dumplings in one order). The dumplings were plump with a good ratio of pork as well as chives. The dumpling skin was thick and chewy as well (perfect)! Lastly, we got some Garlic Eggplant to further supplement our dinner with veggies. Thankfully, there were a lot of chives in the dumplings! The eggplant (as are their other veggie dishes) is cold. There were a ton of tiny garlic pieces on the eggplant pieces. Service? Efficient and pleasant.

Yelp
The food is delicious, but it seems to have too much MSG as it makes you feel very thirsty and causes dryness in the throat afterwards.
