First time eating Anago, great experience. Flavors are fresh and mellow, and it is a very filling and comforting meal. You do need to wait for some time to get in but it is worth it

On Miyajima, the best eating places are off "Tourist Alley" whether its okonimi yaki, slush ice, or in this case anago. On the path to Doshoin temple. You can find cheaper ell but not as great as this.

Came here at around 12 and there was a short line; the customers are mostly Japanese and there are few foreigners. The menu is very small (only 1 main dish, which is the eel rice) but I was pleasantly surprised; the eel is very fresh and the sauce is excellent. The atmosphere is quiet and extremely traditional; if you sit in the house in the back, you must take off your shoes before entering. 10/10, would recommend!

- Arrived at 1040am on Sunday and put our name on the waiting list. We were position number 28. We entered the restaurant at 1230pm and food came out at 1pm - Their main dish is the conger eel set which costs 3000 yen. It was good but I don't think it was worth the wait.

They only offered one dish, Anagomeshi and it’s amazing. Their Anago was exceptionally fluffy and light, a refreshing contrast to the richer texture of Unagi. The balance of flavors, with the perfectly seasoned rice and the tender, melt-in-your-mouth Anago, created a harmonious meal that captured the essence of the region’s culinary tradition😍

Chanced upon it just before 11am on a Monday, wrote my name down, I was 10th on the list, capacity is a little more than that in the restaurant. You will be called according to the list and ushered in, food took about 40 mins to come and in order of the customers, just 1 main dish. I have not tried Anago, so cannot benchmark taste, experience wise I loved it despite the relatively long wait, service was good, traditional interior, I was the only non-Japanese on the list. I'd rather be in a local spot than the more touristy ones so taste is frankly, not as relevant compared to the entire experience, will recommend 👍🏻

This restaurant is excellent. The anagomeshi itself was delicious, and the portions were generous. The service was quick, though not especially friendly. Good old-style atmosphere. This is a popular place so get your name on the waiting list as early as possible and be prepared to wait a long time for a seat. Anagomeshi prices have gone up pretty drastically in the past few years. A standard meal here cost about 3000 JPY at the time of this writing.

The Food I like eel quite a bit. But in Japan there's a difference between fresh water eel (unagi) and saltwater eel (anago). Anagomeshi Fujitaya, as the name suggests, specialized in anago. A friend recommended this restaurant, and it seemed to be a popular place. We all ordered the Anagameshi as well as Anago Liver, and side dishes to share. The Anago Liver was interesting, it served raw, with a bit of saltiness. Not sure if it is the liver itself or added seasoning. The Anagameshi was good as well, but the anago was a bit dry compared to unagi. It would be nice if there were some sauce to go along with it. But the rice was good and went well with the anago. I also found out from my friend that Hiroshima is well known for their rice. They had a limited menu during my visit, but I want to return to see what else they have. The Miscellaneous The restaurant is near the Itsukushima Shrine area in the more residential part? There are usually very long lines, so the recommendation is to go early to put your name down before they open. There is a resting area next to the restaurant for waiting customers. The interior has a traditional Japanese house feel to it. The seating is chabudai style with tatami and cushions, but there are normal seating too. The staff were sincere and wait time for the food was not bad, considering a full house. The menu is simple and straightforward, because they focus on one type of dish. But the quality is there, and worth the try if you are in the area.
