Yelp
ABSOLUTE MUST for anime fans, JDM fans, or even those who enjoy tofu!
For those who know me, either personally or vicariously through my Yelp reviews. It's pretty obvious that I greatly admire people who pursue their hyper specific, non-normie hobbies and allow their passions and love shine through in whatever they may do (a maid café, a bunny museum, etc.). These are truly testaments and a love letter to something that means so much to them, so when I heard that Fujiwara Tofu opened up a brick and mortar store, I was absolutely ecstatic for them.
I recall how unique their stall was at a 626 Night Market eons ago. The iconic Fujiwara Tofu shop overhanging sign, the Eurobeat blasting, and actual game cabinets there too.
They also have car meets here and seasonal limited menu items and merchandise! I recommend following them on their socials if you plan on swinging by often or are interesting in seasonal goodies like I am!
We actually had to skip out on their grand opening because it was SOOO fisted. Over an hour passed and I saw that some patrons only moved like 3 feet in the line. Don't blame them though with the extremely high turnout and the hype, but it was pretty cool to see the vendors there and all of the fancy, exotic cars and itashas as well. My favorite was the RC 86 zooming through the crowds.
Despite skipping that day, I finally had the chance to try them out and even when Halloween had past they still had their Halloween themed October special. There were no crowds and we got our drinks and tofu almost immediately after ordering from their kiosk.
Definitely take a look around the shop! So much merchandise and decoration to look at. Tire stool seats, signed goods and merchandise belonging to the owners themselves, arcade cabinets where you can play Initial D on, merchandise for sale, and so much more. The fact that we have such a shop within vicinity in SoCal is still so mind blowing and cool to me!
Now onto the actual review, we got the:
1) Shinigami:
-This is an October/Halloween special drink that's made from pumpkin puree, boba, and black sesame soy milk.
-There is a slight subtle sweetness from the pumpkin puree, but overall the taste of black sesame is the strongest throughout. Pretty sweet with that overall, even with the sugar level adjusted to be lowered.
-Boba had a decent chewy consistency, but with how sweet the drink was, I think I would have enjoyed it without this topping.
2) Fuji Unsweetened Soy Milk:
-It's a trendy sealed bottle with the café's logo sticker on it.
-Smooth soy milk with a light taste to it. Not watered down at all.
3) Fuji Tofu Pudding with Brown Sugar:
-We ordered this cold and it came with a sugar syrup and ginger on top of tofu.
-Yummy, silky smooth dessert. Perfect for tofu lovers with a sweet tooth.
4) Night Kids:
-Unfortunately not customizable, but delicious nonetheless.
-It's an Ovaltine mochi soymilk.
-Since it's not customizable, just know that this drink is on the "thicker" side, so it is densely sweet.
-I'm a sucker for the chocolate-y malt goodness of Ovaltine and it's great with the soymilk that they have here. Though the mocha just thickened this drink more and honestly felt like it was bordering a dessert more than a drink.
A must for sure for all Initial D, JDM, and tofu fans alike and I hope they'll have some savory tofu snacks in the future too!
