Fujiwara Tofu Cafe Opens to Hundreds of ‘Initial D’ Series Fans in SGV | Eater LA

"Opened January 20 in El Monte, this Initial D–themed cafe drew massive crowds of Japanese sports-car fans at launch, with customers waiting up to six hours and the shop selling out despite tripling inventory. Run by Vincent Chan and Cheri Kyoo, the concept grew out of Initial D pop-ups at 626 Night Market and the Asian American Expo (and a 2019 Formula Drift appearance) and was converted over a year into a storefront with stark white walls, two arcade machines, extensive memorabilia, and a neon “Everything Starts With a Dream” sign. The menu is rooted in Chan’s family tofu-making background and focuses on tofu- and soy-based, mostly non-dairy items: specialty drinks such as ovaltine mochi soy milk, taro boba, red bean matcha, black sticky rice coconut, and a salted caramel chestnut special (priced at $6.86); soy-cream–topped teas (green, black, earl grey, oolong at $5.86); bottled soy milks including a notably smooth black sesame; and a trio of ultra-silken tofu puddings (hot or cold) with brown sugar, red bean, or black sesame that are praised for their balanced sweetness. Car culture is central to the experience—prices intentionally end in .86 as an homage to the AE86, the owner parks a well-preserved Toyota Corolla Trueno AE86 out front, and the expansive strip-mall parking lot serves as a gathering spot for car and anime aficionados (with a request to avoid aggressive revving). While not formally endorsed by the series’ creators, the owners hope to earn approval and build the location into an official Initial D gathering place. Hours are currently Wednesday–Sunday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m." - Matthew Kang

I went to try their new matcha tofu soft serve (and also get one of their soy cream drinks). The soft serve was great, matcha flavor comes through with a hint of tofu. I like their soy cream drinks a lot, and their tofu desserts are all right if you like tofu pudding thicker because it's not super smooth. Still a good stop for some tofu flavored snacks and drinks!

Google
The tofu pudding here is delicious, but unfortunately, the service is hit or miss. Some visits feel welcoming, while others don’t have the same vibe. I also had an experience where they combined containers to save on costs. I ordered four tofu puddings with brown sugar but only received two containers of brown sugar. While I understand the need to cut costs, when I politely asked for the sugar to be split into four containers instead of two, I was met with attitude and a frustrated sigh. It's little things like this that make me hesitant to return.

Google
They have Tofu Soy Matcha Soft Serve Ice Cream!!! 🍦 🍵 AND ITS DELICIOUS! Went there late around 9:30 pm 🤭 Staff is still super sweet! Was informed that soft serve ice cream is non-dairy and vegan! 🫶🏻💕Soft serve and drinks are not too sweet l, perfect for my Asian taste buds, you can do no added sugar level too for drinks! They also have yummy crispy and chewy fried tofu and spicy braised tofu! My fav after movies / dinner late night spot!

I came to check out this place after a friend had recently recomm it. We came on a Sunday at around 3pm and lo and behold, they were actually holding a special event celebrating their 3rd anniversary. The decor was fantastic, I love anime in general, and although I am not a huge fan of Initial D, I do appreciate it as the iconic anime of underground racing that it was and how much it marked a generation. The food is great and the service is top-notch as well. The place was absolutely packed to the brim but it was great to see all of the memorabilia, the arcade machine with the Initial D game on it, and the random and very cool merchandise that they were selling. The drinks themselves were very original and unique. Definitely a place to check out if you're a fan of Initial D or just of anime/manga in general. 10/10

Google
If you're an Initial D fan then rage your dream and stop by the shop! I ordered the speed stars drink and spicy tofu. I enjoyed the drink. It has a good flavor with a thick not too rich caramel. The spicy tofu was just the right temperature to eat right away and the spice level was perfect. My wife got Impact blue and fried tofu. She said the drink tasted like "nothing" I tried it and agreed. There really wasn't any stand out flavor. The fried tofu must have been good, because I didn't get to try any lol! No 5th star just because some seats and tables were just a bit too worn to be aesthetically pleasing. I would definitely go again.

Google
Cool little spot. The story movie behind this spot is really cool! Check it out! Today is always good we had the spicy and the fried. Tables are a bit sticky much.. which was gross. But it’s a cool concept and a small quick joint. There is a lot of product unavailability when it comes to stickers- which sucked but all good. Food was good..arcade was fun.

Google
The drinks here are great-tasting and most are vegan-friendly! Their new soft-serve ice cream is delicious—a must-have!

Google
Fujiwara Tofu Cafe is a dream come true for Initial D fans and foodies alike! Stepping inside feels like you’re transported straight into the world of Initial D—from the decor to the atmosphere, it’s an authentic JDM experience. Their menu is packed with delicious and creative options, from classic Japanese tofu dishes to unique specialty drinks like their Hachiroku Matcha Latte, Bunta’s Coffee, and the fan-favorite Drift Milk Tea. Every item is crafted with attention to quality, making it the perfect spot for both Japanese food enthusiasts and anime fans. The food is not only visually appealing but also bursting with flavor, especially their tofu dishes, which are fresh and prepared with a traditional touch. Whether you’re here for the vibes, the drinks, or a full meal, Fujiwara Tofu Cafe delivers on all fronts. Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience a true Initial D-themed cafe and enjoy some of the best Japanese-inspired drinks and snacks around!

Yelp
I've passed by this place for years, and finally went in! The interior is quite fancy, and they even have two arcade machines. They don't have formal table, it's not really suitable for dining in with couple friends. There were no visible staff -- you just quietly go to the kiosk to place your order and pick it up yourself, with no interaction or greeting. All the drinks are soy milk-based. I personally love pure soy milk, so I couldn't imagine mixing it with other flavors and didn't dare to try. I ordered the fried tofu -- the taste was average, nothing impressive, just a bit shocking because the portion was tiny: only eight small pieces, about one-fourth of a regular supermarket tofu pack. I also ordered the red bean tofu pudding. The pudding texture was nice, but the red beans were way too sweet, even though I asked for 25% sugar. The beans tasted like the canned sweet red beans from the supermarket. I'll go back next time since I'm a tofu pudding lover, but I'll only order the plain one.

Yelp
Cool little Initial D themed cafe! Luckily we were in socal when there was a car meet hosted in the parking lot. They have a variety of interesting drinks with soy stuff Emperor - my friend really liked it, good if you're into sesame Soy cream green tea - wasn't as good as i was hoping. The tea wasn't very strong, but my friend seemed to like it

Yelp
Stopped by one night since I grabbed dinner with family in the area. I've seen this place on social media but it was so much cooler in person. Upon walking in, it literally smells like a car dealership, which I'm not sure if it was intentional, but it was a cool touch nonetheless. We also came by on Tofu Tuesday (BOGO 50% select tofu puddings) so we tried a couple of flavors. We got the Fujiwara tofu pudding with brown sugar and the Fujiwara tofu pudding with black sesame paste and sat in the cafe and watched Japanese drifting competitions for a while. All the little merch and knick knacks were very tempting to take home, especially since they had some cool gachas at the front of the store. If I'm in the area again, I'll be back to try some drinks next time too!

Yelp
If you like Cantonese dessert tofu, this place is for you! This is basically as close as it gets to being in Hong Kong. Quality of the tofu is amazingly smooth. The soup is sweet with a hint of ginger. They have a few varieties such as red beans or taro or black sesame if you want to get fancy. But for me the traditional ones is still better. Good for take out since seating here isn't exactly comfortable. But quality won't degrade even if you take it out which is a plus!

Yelp
[July 30, 5:58PM] Dine-in order Order: - Fujiwara Tofu Pudding w/Osmanthus Pearl (3.5/5): The boba was chewy, and tofu tasted fine. Not really fond of the flavor of the flower that was sprinkled on top of the tofu. I had to ask for extra syrup because there was barely enough to go with the top layer of the tofu. Maybe the restaurant can give syrup on the side for customers to adjust to their liking. - Fujiwara Classic Spicy Tofu (4/5): Flavor is ordinarily good. Since the store uses paper bowls, I noticed that the soup/oil started to soak into the cup, leaving orange marks throughout the cup. I was expecting something more unique in terms for flavor, but nothing really stood out to me. -Fujiwara Zone (Black Sticky Rice Coconut Soymilk) (2.5/5): The store only offered 0%, 50%, or 100% sugar level, so I went with 50%. The drink tasted like unsweetened soymilk that you can buy from the store. Maybe 100% sugar would taste better. I like the vibe inside, the decorations are one of a kind but I don't really see myself coming back again for the food or drinks.

Yelp
I went back recently and without even being prompted, the guy behind the counter said everything is dairy free. I asked if they still use ovaltine (which has lots of dairy) in the kids drink and he said yes. This is months after I told the owner my lactose intolerant son was sick and in pain after drinking it before we realized what was in it - he seemed really non-chalant about it and I guess they just really don't care because they are still telling people it's dairy free.

Yelp
A little difficult to locate for my first visit. Coming northbound from Rosemead Blvd, my GPS had me go towards the I-10, but there is also a way by turning right onto Telstar Ave. I went yesterday, Wednesday, around 3 pm, and it was not busy. Parking was easy; it is located in a plaza. TBH, there's not much in the plaza aside from a Starbucks and Del Taco. Upon entering, we were greeted by a voice behind the counter. You can order at the kiosks or online ahead of time, and they do not accept cash. Very minimal interaction with the staff, except for picking up your order in the back. I ordered an Emperor (Black Sesame Soymilk w/ Tofu Pudding) with 50% sweetness, and my brother got Night Kids (Ovaltine Soymilk with Mochi) with 50% sweetness. Mine tasted like it was not sweet at all, maybe it's the tofu, but next time I'll try 100%. Apart from the sweetness percentage, the drinks are not customizable, so I couldn't add boba, which was a bummer. However, the selection of drinks is pretty unique, so I understand. The interior is predominantly black and white, inspired by an anime. There are a lot of car and racing themes. I definitely will be back to try their tofu snacks and desserts.

Yelp
Tofu Katsu Curry sounds really delicious. My order took less than a minute to make. Received a large Aluminum Ball of Steamed Rice, two Katsu breaded tofu, and a container of curry. The curry was good. The tofu was not freshly fried. Cool concept, interesting execution, mediocre tasting tofu.

Yelp
I only got a picture of the stinky tofu because we already ate the tofu pudding :( This place is cute, it's good, and it's just an overabundance of ae86s everywhere. I wish both the Initial D machines worked though. The stinky tofu had a strong smell BUT when eating it, it could have been stinkier. ALL the tofu pudding had a good texture and taste though. Would definitely come back even if you weren't a fan of Initial D.

Yelp
Finally had the chance to check out Fujiwara Tofu Cafe in El Monte. I've been craving HK authentic tofu pudding for a while and this place is pretty good! They offer various toppings and even a fun drink menu. I got an original hot tofu pudding and a tofu pudding with red bean! Both delicious and their service is straightforward. You'd first order on their kiosks, and they even have a pup tofu pudding with no brown sugar and a cute bone on top! My dog loved it! Dog approved!! The store itself is super cute and anime car-themed. For all of my car enthusiasts, this is the spot for you--check out their car simulation games!

Yelp
Since I found out about this place, I've been begging my friends to go with me nonstop! They caved and we went on the day of the Suburu car meet. The vibes were immaculate, and it's pretty much any Initial D fan's greatest dream come true. Tons of stickers, references, merch, racing games, and even gatcha pon. Most the drinks were named after various racing teams from the anime, as well as tofu. I wish there was fried tofu, but besides that, I was completely satisfied. It's a long drive so I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I hope it's soon!!

Yelp
finally got to try the famous Fujiwara tofu cafe!! the inside of this place is based on an old anime called Initial D, and sometimes the car that they raced in the show is outside (I didn't get to see it!). the inside is pretty cozy and cool, complete with chairs and tables and a restroom in the back for convenience. you have to order at the kiosk as well. my order came out in under 10 minutes which was good. I ordered the fried tofu and the brown sugar tofu pudding. the fried tofu was definitely my favorite out of the two!! it wasn't too heavy or breaded heavily. the pudding was pretty good, but after you eat all the syrup it becomes a bit bland so I wish there was a bit more of the sugar syrup. it was still good though. all in all, I really liked this place.

Yelp
As a motorsport and Formula D fan, I loved this spot! It is themed after a popular anime called Initial D. I absolutely loved the interior! There were so many niche details that only fans of the sport or anime would notice. The self service kiosks were easy to use and we were able to order quickly. My favorite at this spot was the Tofu Pudding with brown sugar. Even my parents love this spot for tofu pudding! I also heard that some car meetups are planned here and I often see an exact replica of the car from the anime parked in front of the store (owners car maybe?). Overall, I LOVE the ambiance of this spot and its delicious tofu

Yelp
I love introducing my friends to this fun Initial D themed cafe. It's a total hidden gem of nostalgia with collectibles, cool decor, and even initial D driving arcade games from back in the day. Over the years, they've really stopped maintaining some of the furniture and the quality of the interior is looking slightly worn down and sad though. The service has always been super chill here, no complaints now that it's not as busy as a couple of years ago. I still really enjoy their tofu desserts. Portions are perfect for these. My favorites are the brown sugar, black sesame (doesn't overwhelm the tofu somehow), and now the new osmanthus flavor...the boba actually does it justice. Hopefully they can freshen up to look on the inside, but I'd still drop by anyway for the tofu

Yelp
Found this place on ubereats looking for something sweet to use my credit on. Interesting concepts for soy milk and tofu! The drinks were good along with their toppings. I got the emperor and night kids. The emperor is the black sesame soy milk with tofu pudding. I love black sesame and tofu pudding. The drink was great for me. Subtle black sesame with the soy milk flavors. The night kids have ovaltine and soy milk with mochi. Tastes great as well and the mochi has a good chewiness. Service was quick. Lots of decorations inside. Came at night so the place was very empty. Would come back for their soy milk!

Yelp
Cute trendy bubble tea and tofu drink/dessert cafe. Place your order online next to the counter, they call out your number or get a text confirming your order is ready and grab your drinks and treats. It's simple and quick. The cafe has a cool fast and furious type vibe. Drinks are tasty not overly sweet. Red bean is good and fresh. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Visited on a Sunday, and was disappointed to experience a wonderful themed concept in such poor conditions. They ran out of their flagship sweetened soy milk, so I decided to try their black sesame and a Milo malt chocolate drink. The "tofu" inside the black sesame tasted separated, and the Milo had this raw egg white consistency. Very mucus-like. Tried to support loc business but ended up having to toss the drink due to inedibility.
google avatar

Melina C.

Yelp
Tried this place and it was good! Pretty empty, most people buy drinks or buy tofu pudding to go. I got the night kids drink, fried tofu, and the tofu pudding with black sesame paste. Night kids drink: I got it 50% and less ice. It was pretty light, not too sweet. Finally found a place with Ovaltine drink. The mochi tofu is very different and chewy. Fried tofu: this was good too! The sweet and sour sauce with it was very good as well, a good pairing. Tofu pudding with black sesame: not too sweet as well! The bottom has a bit of sweetness and ginger flavor.

Yelp
Improvements can be made. Interior looks like it used to be a fun place to hang out, but with poor management, once fun novelties become broken relics. The main theme of this place is Initial D. They showcase this with themes and an arcade machine, but sadly is left inoperable. Many of the items were out of stock when we went. The main purpose was to try one of their most popular one, but we all were obligated to just order an alternative. The sesame tofu is delightful. Not too sweet, which I prefer. My cousin thinks it's too grainy, but I don't mind. Overall, the tofu dessert is good, but I would like to see this place keep up with items in stock. An added bonus would be to fix the arcade machine!
google avatar

Yelp
How am I just discovering this place now? Such a cute little shop that gives off strong Initial D vibes! Plenty of parking was available, and the service was quick. There's a decent amount of seating too, with both high and low-top tables, making it a great spot to chill. Here's what I tried: *Night Kids: First time trying Ovaltine, and it was not my favorite. The mochi topping didn't quite hit the spot for me. *Emperor: This one reminded me of black sesame tofu dessert--just in drink form. I enjoyed it. *Soy Cream GT: The green tea was solid, and the soy cream added an interesting twist. You can taste the tofu notes in the cream. *Tofu Pudding w/ Brown Sugar Boba: Delicious! Make sure to mix it well to get the full flavor. If you're a fan of traditional Chinese tofu desserts, you'll enjoy this. *Panda Trueno: Creamy soft serve with a subtle hint of light soy. So good!

Yelp
Ahhhh if you or a loved one loves some Initial D, run don't walk here! You will not be disappointed so much memorabilia to gawk. Purple Shadow is my go to here. The service was quick and the restaurant is pure Initial D coded. Awesome place to visit.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
If you're an Initial D player, definitely come check out this spot at least once. Warning! If you're allergic to soy, don't come here. They also have tofu and pudding. My poor boyfriend couldn't try anything. He liked the interior as they have cool memorabilia of Initial D.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time at the cafe for the recent vtuber x Initial D fan event and I do have to say that if there are more themed events in general, I would be interested in going more. 1st time was with friends because I didn't realize the tofu shop cafe was just in rosemead. I wanted to get the fujiwara zone drink because black sticky rice + coconut soymilk sounds soo interesting, but everyone else thought the same and it was apparently sold out :( I ended up trying the impact blue soymilk drink this time and here are my thoughts: the soymilk used tasted fresh in my opinion and the butterfly pea flower jelly?wasn't too overpowering but present, similar to what I know of Mako Sato's personality in Initial D, I've only watched 1st stage so far. Take this with a grain of salt as it's been a while, but I recall that the soymilk is more solid than the tofu pudding. Along the lines of it being too silken and not enough soy bean flavor so i'll need to retry it one of these days. Despite the event, the workers overall were communicative and professional to customers in getting their drinks on time and communicating that the ones they ordered were out of stock. Having a lot of jdm fans and vtuber fans here gave the cafe a good vibe overall. I would like to go on a normal day to see for myself.

Yelp
All I really wanted was a unique dessert that wasn't coconut jelly, egg waffle, or soufflé pancake, and this place delivers! The silky tofu topped with a brown sugar syrup bites soft like flan and just hits that sweet spot of "not too sweet". Along with the tofu dessert, which you can get hot OR cold, there are a wide variety of creamy milk teas all named after the driving teams from Initial D. My personal favorite is the Deep Blue with the aloe jelly and bright blue coloring from the butterfly pea flowers. Tucked in a plaza surrounded by commercial and office buildings, this hidden anime themed cafe is a perfect hangout spot to relax with a few friends in an afternoon. No weeb or car enthusiasm required!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Got the brown sugar tofu pudding. Overall the tofu had a pretty solid taste. I enjoyed it. I didn't care too much for the other powdery item they put on it. The plain brown sugary syrup would've been ample.

Yelp
Super cute spot for sports car fanatics! Loveeee their tofu pudding and their drinks.. I could tell it's super fresh and very delicious. You just order from the kiosks and it is card only! My favorite is their taro boba tofu pudding drink.. the boba is super fresh and chewy and the taro is REAL taro not the artificial powder. Make sure to request it 50% less sugar if you prefer it not too sweet! A tad expensive (around $7 each) but completely worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cool especially if you love Initial D! They have the arcade game, collectibles, signatures, order kiosk menu all theme to the anime. The servicer here was super nice and informative. I ordered the black sesame emperor drink. Unfortunately they ran out of tofu but it was still really good. I would definitely come here again so I can try the drink with tofu. They do car meetups too so if you have a JDM, love boba, or anime this might be a place to check out
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on a Wednesday night, barely any customers it looked closed! I have been seeing car lines around the corner when there are car meets but it looks like this place isn't somewhere to hang out outside of car meets. There was only one person who had come in to pick up an order. I tried the ovaltine soy milk with mochi drink and it was just okay, no stand out. But I did have a little tummy ache afterwards :/ I also tried the osthamantus golden tofu dessert. It was very light sweetness, most of the sweetness came from the boba, not so much fragrance from the dried flowers and the tofu itself was just okay. I thought the place would be somewhat experts in tofu and soymilk but it looks like its more of a concept store than specialty. Typical kiosk order and just one person behind the counter. We had 4 tofu dessert orders and 1 drink order took around 10-15 mins. To top it off a roach hitched a ride on the way home on the car side mirror

Yelp
Perfect textures and flavors, isn't too sweet so fits the Asian palette. Self service ordering kiosk, easy to use. Ample parking in the lot. Went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. Space isn't too big but there are large long tables which makes it good for bigger groups. Single unisex bathroom - clean and well kept.
google avatar

Yelp
Specializing in tofu pudding, this Initial D themed dessert shop was pretty good! They have a wide variety of drinks using soy milk and tofu puddings. They also have several tables and wifi available, so it makes a good study or work spot. I tried their Ovaltine soy milk with mochi drink and a tofu pudding with black sesame and red bean. The drink was really sweet but I enjoyed the silkiness of the mochi. Their tofu pudding was also sweet but I'm personally a huge fan of black sesame and red bean so I enjoyed it. Overall their desserts are good, although on the sweeter side so I would recommend getting it less sweet. The concept of initial d is pretty cool and they play the original cartoon movie in the background, so definitely check them out if you're a fan!
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
Really cool Place but the drinks weren't that good if im being honest, however most people dont come here for the drinks they come to appreciate the atmosphere and attention to detail. If you're looking for a great drink spot i cant recommend this place but if youre looking a die hard initial D fan or Car enthusiast its a fun pit stop if your in the area.

Yelp
Came to Fujiwara Tofu Cafe over the new year weekend. Order through their 2 kiosks up front (no cash accepted, card only). Hubby and I got the (hot) Fujiwara Tofu Pudding w/ Brown Sugar (aka the standard TofuFa you get with the ginger & brown sugar you can get from dimsum!). It was good, but I do think a little overpriced and overly sweet at the bottom. I wonder if we can ask them to give us the brown sugar syrup on the side to add ourselves.... They also have a Black Sesame Tofu Pudding, but they were out when we came in that night. Bummer, I'll have to try next time. Inside decor of the Cafe is all based off the Initial D anime! And they do have a couple of the Intial D racing games in the back (but one machine was out of order when we went) - 50 cents per game. You can ask for change from the cashier/worker.

Yelp
Family stopped by here after dinner one day and I really like their offerings. Definitely feels like a healthier option since so many things are black rice or tofu based! So many places are just straight sugar bombs so I was curious to see their offerings. We ended up with taro, black rice, tofu, black sesame items which were all not too sweet. That's like older asian compliment supreme. Things are I guess Initial D themed here with two arcade machines in the back. Brings me back to my high school days when I had a key to play unlimited... They sell merch too if you're into that. Payment kiosks on the side and the seats double as purse or jacket storage under the cushion, just make sure not to forget your things before you leave. Would def come back when in the area.

Brian H.

Yelp
Wow the interior is really admirable, for any Initial D anime fans (or just car fans in general), this is the spot! Even if you're not into this kind of stuff (I'm not) it's definitely cool to see. Easily a unique boba shop to check out. Interior aside, the boba drinks are solid. I ordered the Emperor drink and my gf had the Speed Stars. I'd say the tofu is pretty good, I think the boba is solid. I'm not a huge sesame fan so maybe picking this wasn't the best decision. I admit the drinks here look creative, I'll for sure be coming back to try other drinks!

Yelp
My "nephew" had his birthday party here and it was beyond amazing it was a slow Saturday morning so the owners let the magic happen! It was beyond an experience and worth every moment! The food is mostly soy based and the restaurant is theme based truthfully no other place in the world is quite like it . The tofu puddings and soy based beverages were very good and protein loaded meals in themselves? I was more than impressed with the kindness, service and quality offered by the staff and wow did they know how to make a day special as well !

Yelp
Grabbing some drinks at this cute cafe filled with an Initial D-themed store. If you haven't heard about it Initial D is an anime from Japan and it has to deal with a kid that lives in a mountain town and has to deliver food for his dad's store. It's such a cool anime they also made a game out of it and I swear I was super addicted to playing at the arcades. This store was impressive and pretty much has a range of different flavored drinks. I got the black sesame one because I enjoy the nutty flavor. My friend got the taro and another got an Ovaltine-flavored drink. You can adjust the sweetness, ice, and toppings inside your drink. I would say come and try it out. I got my drink with 50 percent less sugar because I like it to not be super sweet and it was made perfectly.

Yelp
such a cute and cool vibe! i'm not an anime or car person, but i thoroughly enjoyed the commitment to the theme. the tofu was solid and i can't remember what drink i got but it was delicious :) felt healthier than drinking boba LOL. The service was great too, let me stay to study for a while! would def go back.

Yelp
Thanks to my foodie friend for introducing me to this soy milk and tofu emphasized drink place in El Monte city. We got two drinks from their special drinks section: Emperor and Red Suns. Woohoo!!! Can't wait to try them :) ⁣ A very unique dessert place with cool decorations. People are nice and quick with service. ⁣ Emperor is made with black sesame soy milk with tofu pudding, I adjust the sweetness level to 25% and it tastes so organic and healthy with its rich and silky texture from the pudding!!! The sesame flavor is filling up your entire mouth for every sip. ⁣ ⁣ Red Suns is made with red bean matcha soy milk. Beautiful presentation and inviting. Matcha and red bean is the best combination no matter, exciting texture and refreshing flavor from the matcha. Highly recommended. ⁣ ⁣ Will definitely come back soon to try more drinks and desserts from the menu!! ⁣

Yelp
I was really impressed with this place. I feel like it's a nice change from the many boba shops in the area. The decor is awesome and they have racing games. There are limited seating however. The service was quite slow. I waited around 30 minutes for my drink and there was only one worker. I don't blame them for the slow service but this means they need another worker to help them out! The drink itself I loved. The soy milk tasted great quality and fresh. Their tofu was was silky and the black sesame paste was nice as well. It was a good refreshing drink. This place will definitely be a new go to if I'm not feeling boba

Yelp
I got the Green Thai Tea today & I loved it, it had soy milk but it is a specialty drink so you can't add boba. You order at kiosks but the employees were very sweet. There is only a few seats available but this place has really great memorabilia from the anime Initial D. There is car shows around 8 pm and it adds to the experience.

Yelp
ABSOLUTE MUST for anime fans, JDM fans, or even those who enjoy tofu! For those who know me, either personally or vicariously through my Yelp reviews. It's pretty obvious that I greatly admire people who pursue their hyper specific, non-normie hobbies and allow their passions and love shine through in whatever they may do (a maid café, a bunny museum, etc.). These are truly testaments and a love letter to something that means so much to them, so when I heard that Fujiwara Tofu opened up a brick and mortar store, I was absolutely ecstatic for them. I recall how unique their stall was at a 626 Night Market eons ago. The iconic Fujiwara Tofu shop overhanging sign, the Eurobeat blasting, and actual game cabinets there too. They also have car meets here and seasonal limited menu items and merchandise! I recommend following them on their socials if you plan on swinging by often or are interesting in seasonal goodies like I am! We actually had to skip out on their grand opening because it was SOOO fisted. Over an hour passed and I saw that some patrons only moved like 3 feet in the line. Don't blame them though with the extremely high turnout and the hype, but it was pretty cool to see the vendors there and all of the fancy, exotic cars and itashas as well. My favorite was the RC 86 zooming through the crowds. Despite skipping that day, I finally had the chance to try them out and even when Halloween had past they still had their Halloween themed October special. There were no crowds and we got our drinks and tofu almost immediately after ordering from their kiosk. Definitely take a look around the shop! So much merchandise and decoration to look at. Tire stool seats, signed goods and merchandise belonging to the owners themselves, arcade cabinets where you can play Initial D on, merchandise for sale, and so much more. The fact that we have such a shop within vicinity in SoCal is still so mind blowing and cool to me! Now onto the actual review, we got the: 1) Shinigami: -This is an October/Halloween special drink that's made from pumpkin puree, boba, and black sesame soy milk. -There is a slight subtle sweetness from the pumpkin puree, but overall the taste of black sesame is the strongest throughout. Pretty sweet with that overall, even with the sugar level adjusted to be lowered. -Boba had a decent chewy consistency, but with how sweet the drink was, I think I would have enjoyed it without this topping. 2) Fuji Unsweetened Soy Milk: -It's a trendy sealed bottle with the café's logo sticker on it. -Smooth soy milk with a light taste to it. Not watered down at all. 3) Fuji Tofu Pudding with Brown Sugar: -We ordered this cold and it came with a sugar syrup and ginger on top of tofu. -Yummy, silky smooth dessert. Perfect for tofu lovers with a sweet tooth. 4) Night Kids: -Unfortunately not customizable, but delicious nonetheless. -It's an Ovaltine mochi soymilk. -Since it's not customizable, just know that this drink is on the "thicker" side, so it is densely sweet. -I'm a sucker for the chocolate-y malt goodness of Ovaltine and it's great with the soymilk that they have here. Though the mocha just thickened this drink more and honestly felt like it was bordering a dessert more than a drink. A must for sure for all Initial D, JDM, and tofu fans alike and I hope they'll have some savory tofu snacks in the future too!

Yelp
Silky tofu desserts at an Initial D themed Cafe! Order at the kiosk --brown sugar tofu: yummy! Perfect amount of sweetness but wow was I full afterwards --black sesame soy milk with tofu: didn't taste much of the black sesame but what a pretty drink The customers here all seem to be car enthusiasts

Yelp
First time here with my friend. I loved the black sticky rice soy milk so much. It reminds me of the black sticky rice popsicle I had when I was a kid. A super cool place and good for a dating spot.

Yelp
I thought u wrote a review before, but her it goes again. Theme based desert shop. If you're into Anime than you're familiar with Initial D. If you're a fan than definitely worth going you'll enjoy the decor. They have the arcade driving simulator for you to play. As for the food they serve a variety of drinks and tofu pudding with different variations from boba toppings to herbal jelly sesame. They even have treats for the dog and mines engulf it I guess a healthy snack?

Yelp
Came to work from Fujiwara Tofu Cafe on Memorial Day and it wasn't bad! I ordered the Emperor which is the black sesame soy milk with tofu pudding with 50% sugar and less ice. It was perfectly sweetened for me and it's still cold with less ice. My only gripe was that it doesn't taste that much like black sesame - although it does look very cool! There's lots of open table space, free wifi (just ask them for the password), and lots of seating. It wasn't the MOST comfortable place to work because they play music pretty loudly, the chairs are backless, and there aren't a lot of outlets to charge your electronics, but it works. While I was here, MULTIPLE people came in to create content (with cameras/mics and everything) which I thought was pretty funny. I didn't know there was such a popular gimmick, but apparently, it's an anime-themed cafe? Free parking in the plaza - and lots of it too.

Yelp
Sitting right near the 10 freeway, Fujiwara Tofu sits in a shopping plaza with lots of available parking. The menu consisted of drinks, a variety of tofu pudding and some snacks. It is more of a self-serve facility here. You place your order via the kiosk and leave your cell phone number, and they will text you when your order is ready. The pickup area is in the rear of the restaurant by the bathroom. Wanted to have some hot tofu pudding, but they didn't have any available (in October 2023), the staff told me that they might start serving hot tofu pudding when the weather gets colder. Was a nice treat for those that have a sweet tooth. Will be back again.

Yelp
It is great place if you like Anime in general or Initial D in particular and also love T O F U a must. The place is full of Initial D memorabilia- so cool. And the setting by the cashier and where they prep the drinks and desserts almost just like in the Anime. Easy parking, the place is on a quiet corner. You hardly see the staff because you come in and put your order through a kiosk and scan your receipt and when your order is ready, they notify you via text and you can pick up at the window. They all look good, i order the Emperor which is the Black Sesame soy milk with tofu pudding and its so refreshing and creamy. I will go back and order different stuff.

Yelp
Cool spot! We opted for the salted caramel chestnut boba soy milk to try out, and I really loved it. The boba was chewy, and the soy milk was very smooth too. The flavors were light and tasty, the quality was good. They also sell tofu pudding and soy cream tea in the store. But note to self, this place is ONLY good if you're a fan of soy milk and initial D. If you're not, you might find the taste not very enjoyable. Bonus points: They occasionally have car meet events. Fun place. Worth a try!
