Funkmeyers is the perfect spot if you’re in the mood to dance and enjoy retro vibes—especially for fans of the ’80s. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with great music, good drinks, and a full-on retro ambiance that takes you back in time. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes, because the dance floor is always calling. If you visit early in the day, you might even get the chance to play some classic ’80s video games, adding an extra layer of fun. An all-around great time—highly recommended!

Google
This would be the second time I visit a Funkmeyers Rec Room, and I got to say both were equally entertaining. On this evening, we went earlyish on a Friday night and talk about perfect timing. Not too crowded, with just the right amount of energy, The video machines were up for grabs, (Pac- Man, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Centipede and others, the only this missing was an ol pinball machine) while others were watching the college football game on the giant projector screen. I also noticed a stage, not sure what this is for but could be for karaoke. Soon after they lower the lights just a little bit and pump up the music to your favorite 80s & 90s era, you can't help but to dance where you are. They do have a happy hour, (?) which we had just missed, of course, but still average price on drinks. Our waiter was funny and fast, and makes a great Margarita. There are attentive to their customers as long as you sitting at the bar, other than that you are pretty much on your own. There is second mini bar right smack in the middle of the game area so it's no big deal getting a refill. Overall I had a great time so much fun, I kissed a girl and I liked it and I will definitely be going back again. If you are of the video arcade generation, you must visit this place for yourself. It's a blast from the past but now you get to do it as an adult and with the beer, how fun is that?

Google
We popped in on a Friday afternoon; they had just opened. Bartender was very friendly. Arcade games we’re on free play and it was happy hour. We stuck around for several hours and had a great time. The staff was great, the drinks tasty (and not watered down). The music was fun, 80’s-90’s mostly. I can’t wait to go back. (Oh and they let our up hang out with us!!)

Google
Great music. Crowd is a little bit older. They played music from the 70s up to 2000. If you like old school music, this is the spot.

I D.

Google
Night club/Bar busiest nights are Friday and Saturday, open on Sunday. During the week I couldn't tell you if they're open. Older crowd; I'd say 35 and older. But if you're younger and love 70s,80s, and 90s and some 2000s, it's the spot for you. Videos playing and matching the song that you're listening to. Guys you can try to get in with shorts and sandals but I think that they are frowned upon. Women are allowed with shorts on, that's funny huh? No dress code enforced for the girls.

Dry River C.

Google
First of all $4.50 for a budlight is outrageous! Second make sure you take a gas mask with you. The smoke/fog in there is overwhelming! Very hard to breathe. And the bathrooms, omg they are disgusting! I’ve seen cleaner bathrooms at rest stops! Last thing, It’s a hole in the wall bar, but they act like it’s a 5 start restaurant! Their dress code policy is pathetic! I honestly don’t recommend this place at all, but to each their own.

Google
So So disappointed. My husband and I made reservation for his birthday. We are early birds so we did let them know that. We were told there would be a DJ and good music at the time of out arrival. We got there an waited at the door for 10min. No one waited on us. The atmosphere was a bunch of little kids running around. We were all dressed up and so so disappointed. We ended up leaving after No one helped us or showed us to our table.

Not a bad place, good music, good vibes, great bartenders.

Yelp
This place is so much fun!! I had a friend in town and we were looking for places to go drink and have fun and we came across this place that's close to Border Ale house... well instead of going there we came to Funkmeyers. We got there kinda a little bit early like around 830pm and at first we were skeptical about the place but we ended up staying and took a few shots and drinks and found out that ALL the arcades are FREE to play!!! When I found that out I was ecstatic!!! There was so many arcades of the 80s. The music was also great!! The name of the place pretty much lives up to its name with old school hip hop to a mix of funk and random 80s and 90s music. Later on in the night it got super packed. For reals I HIGHLY recommend this place!! It's free cover and free arcades and literally $2-3 drinks. Just come check this place out!! I'll be baaaaaaack!!! Enjoy my pics:)

Yelp
Outdated..same layout.. boring, same four walls..who owns a bar no draft beer n no kitchen.. I went in to have a beer..felt I was in adult daycare..dead no vibe.. I had to leave..this place needs a vision and new ownership..someone help this place.. John Taffer where are you at????!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Free arcade games 5/5 stars done. Service was on point too. Friendly manager came over to give us a rundown of the place when he saw we weren't sure how things worked. The place isn't quite a barcade. It was trivia night the Tuesday we went. There looks to be a stage, possibly for performances? It appears to be a locals type of place, but it's not quite a dive. Decor is not fancy but nice and the bartender/servers are dressed smartly. We didn't stay long because it was a weeknight but will be back again!

Yelp
Can you dig it... I just relived my 80s/90s youth in here. From the music to the arcade games to the vibe of the party goers. $5 well vodka tonics or $10.50 for Goose. You can't beat the free games. Played some NBA Jam, TMNT, Super Mario, and my favorite SF2. I didn't get to try the food, if and when I come back to El Paso, I will check out the menu.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Probably one of the best spots in town. Vibes are always A1, the people that go are usually cultured so I haven't been treated with bias by the staff nor by the customers. Very rare to find a place in El Paso where absolutely everyone and anyone can feel welcome.
google avatar

Sydney B.

Yelp
The drinks were good and the vibe was cool but the service was lacking. We had called ahead for a big group and asked if the kitchen would be open, they said it was open until 11PM. We show up at 8 PM get our drinks and a food menu. When we tried to order food they told us the kitchen closed at 9 and they refused to serve our party, they told us that at 8:45. We had planned to stay there all night but ending up leaving after an hour thanks to their cruddy service.

Yelp
So when my friends told me "90s video game bar" i was stoked. Less stoked when we tried to go for lunch one day. Granted, it was a Monday, and afterwards when I found out it was more of a bar that happened to have 90s video games, well the hype died a little bit. It also made sense why they'd be closed for lunch on a Monday. As I understand it, they're trying to steer away from the 90s theme because it seems like folks on the younger end are the bigger demographic. I mean, big surprise the folks in 30s and 40s don't go out and would rather stay in and go to bed earlier. I guess retro isn't as popular anymore. I mean it's not bad. As a bar it has pretty decent food, a good array of drinks, and a place to be sweaty and uncoordinated ie a dance floor. I guess when I came in here I thought it'd be more like an old school arcade that happened to have booze in it. Sort of like that one place with rows upon rows of games, laser tag, bumper cars, and ticket machines, so you could win cheap plastic prizes while getting absolutely hammered. Think Stranger Things but fewer monsters and more high scores. Cowa-friggin-bunga. Unfortunately for my own imagination that was not the case. Still, they have some classic 90s games against the wall. Ninja Turtles (NOT Turtles in Time), Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, all manner of Pac-Man and others. The games are all free, which is a definite plus. It's just more bar than arcade. Just so you know before going in. If that's what you're expecting out of this place, by all means go on in. I like this place fine, and it's fun to get a little taste of 90s childhood, I just wanted more.

Yelp
I was passing by El Paso on my way to LA and decided to check this place it out due to its great reviews on Google (apparently Texans aren't big on Yelp. Lol) Walked in, got wanded at the door (Texas) and walked into a 80's/ 90's scene. The music was on point, there were retro arcade games, darts, a stage with patrons dancing, and an overall good vibe. For food, we had the Montecristo and Totchos. The menu on Google is like 3 years old. Please use the one I uploaded, that is ALL the food they have. I highly recommend the Montecristo sandwich, it's like a sandwich is a donut. I know, sounds weird... but just trust me. If you're ever in town, swing by. The staff is on point, music is great, and there is a very diverse crowd. Lots of parking.

Yelp
Well I found out that the chef from Tom's was here I knew this was a must try place. I always thought this place was a bar, but I soon found out they had a new concept, I guess. Walking in the scene sure looked like a bar, there was one poor girl working the entire floor by herself including the bar. She was killing it though kuddos to her. We sat ourselves and she quickly greeted us and got our drink order. She was quick to bring the drinks out and take our order as well. It was 5:30 and as we waited for our food the place started getting busier. Our food came out quickly which was good because I was starving. For the kids we ordered the pulled pork slider trio and fries. The sliders consisted of a pretzel bun pulled pork and BBQ topped with coleslaw. The coleslaw really overwhelmed the meat, it was kind of odd to have inside the burger instead of on the side. Didn't really like that, but the meat was perfect and so was the bread. My husband and I got the mint julep tea which was both delicious and refreshing. We ordered the carnitas torta with Mac and Cheese. The torta was amazing really, the bread was soft and the meat was nice and tender. You could not really taste the avocado aioli which kinda sucked, because after all what is a torta without avocado. But none the less it was really good. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious in every which way. We also shared the buffalo chicken fries. The fries were like curly fries but not curly. The chicken was tender and the sauce, ranch and cheese really came together nicely. As more people started coming in I realized that other people had their kids as well. It was like a bar in there, all the parents were standing around drinking with friends while their kids were playing arcades. I mean it's not really my thing to get wasted while my kids are around, but whatever floats your boat. We played the arcade games and we really did have a good time. The service was really good and the staff was very friendly. Now I know where to go if I want to go out to a bar but don't have a sitter..... lol jk

Yelp
Funkmeyers has been known as El Paso's first arcade bar and home to Tacoholics, but last winter, a chain reaction of events caused the culinary stars to align. Tom's Folk Cafe closed its doors while Tacoholics announced it was leaving Funkmeyers to open a place of their own on Zaragoza. Mourning the absence of Tacoholics and Tom's was quickly replaced with elation when Funkmeyers revealed that their kitchen would be headed by Chefs Lawrence Acosta and Michael Diaz de Leon of Tom's, as well as Dark Horse Tavern and Comfort Co. Tasty Eats food truck, respectively. Funkmeyers salutes all things '80's and '90's, so the chefs naturally created a menu that draws from childhood favorites, pub food classics and border flavor. The whimsy begins with a non-alcoholic beverage menu of housemade kool aids and shaken teas that are just begging for a shot of liquor. Minty sweet tea, hibiscus tea, coconut tea and other fruity teas are refreshing, but you can't resist the housemade kool aid syrups that flavor fizzy mashups called Purple Burple (grape) and Ecto Cooler (orange tangerine). No more separate food and drink tabs, the ordering process is now streamlined with a friendly wait staff that will take care of everything. The menu lends itself to sharing with a variety of flatbreads, pretzel bun sliders that are mini versions of their full-sized sandwiches, funky fries (pulled pork, cheese sauce and more), and deviled eggs, which get the wing treatment with blue cheese, buffalo sauce and pickled celery. Speaking of wings, they make all of the sauces from scratch, all containing a laundry list of ingredients. The mac & cheese should be called mac and capital C-H-E-E-S-E, because under a blanket of melted cheese lies penne pasta swimming in a rich cheese sauce of green chile and Cajun-spiced bacon that hints at smoky chipotle, garlic and rosemary flavors (I tried it without the bacon). To cut through the richness, try a refreshing salad of mixed greens with roasted citrus supremes, Israeli couscous and toasted, sliced almonds in a citrus vinaigrette; avocados are mashed right in, binding each ingredient together for the perfect bite. The "between the bun" section features elevated comfort food, which comes with their hand-cut fries. They have a couple of options that might convert any carnivore into a vegetarian, if not for a few minutes. I'm still dreaming about the Beet Milanesa torta. It's served on bread that tastes as if it was slathered in honey butter. Beets are sliced, breaded and fried, and tied together with avocado aioli and greens; it's one hearty meal that touches on all flavors and textures, complimented by the vinegary heat of a crisp chile curtido (house-pickled jalapeno). Finish strong with a root beer float served with the flavor-of-the-month ice cream, made from scratch of course. Also offered are molten chocolate cupcakes with a churro bite or a weekly feature, which has previously included ice cream sandwiches, like brownies with rocky road ice cream and lemon sugar cookies with Froot Loops cereal milk ice cream.

Yelp
Aw yeah. Unlimited old school video games + 90s jams = amazingness. The music was seriously really good (even reminded me to add a couple of my fav 90s songs to my Spotify list, hahaha!). And had a blast playing the video games. Didn't stay late enough to where some folks apparently may be jamming out in the middle to some of the songs, but it is a really sweet bar and concept. Well done!
google avatar

Rodolfo P.

Yelp
Where in El Paso do you go if you're part of the older crowd, want to hear "throwback" 90's jams, and want to dance? Your answer is Funkmeyer's. When you walk in, the first thing you'll probably notice is this giant gorilla draped in Funkmeyer's gear. King Kong's hand is big enough to sit in; a great photo-op. Hit the island bar close to the entrance or the bar that hugs the left side for some drinks. Even on a busy weekend, I was still served in a very reasonable amount of time. All the way at the end of the Rec Room, is a stage. You'll see people time to time take the stage, getting their groove on. Feel free to join them. The arcade machines that line that walls on either side make for an enjoyable diversion, and I believe they are "free play" on weekends. There's a good selection of some classic games. Chances are though, if you're there on a Friday or Saturday night like myself, you're not there to game. The music is the big draw. It's loud, but the place is big enough and it's not enough to leave ears ringing after a night out. As far as the actual cuts played, expect a lot of hip-hop and some R&B from the 90's, with a few modern tracks sprinkled in for good measure. They have nights for trivia, karaoke, and Rock en Español on Thursdays. Can't speak for the other days, but karaoke night was decent. Not a large crowd, or anything spectacular about it, but that's far from the focus of this review (karaoke usually isn't my thing, if it's yours, you might like it). What I love about Funkmeyer's is that it's a great place to cut back have a good time. It's not rowdy like the bars on Cinci/EPTX/etc. The air of pretentiousness that you might notice in some other East Side bars is non-existent. You don't have to be dressed to the nines to fit in; you'll fit in fine with a t-shirt & jeans. And everyone around you is there to enjoy themselves. The place is filled with people dancing, drinking and living it up. Funkmeyer's definitely brings the funk.

Yelp
Aye this place is awesome!!! Some of the video games are broken so that part sucks a little but they gave us free tacos and the beer was cold!! Played NBA Jam, Blitz 99!! The music was good, everyone was happy.
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
Came across this place when I came into town to visit my family. My mom and I were wanting to grab a drink and heard about this place from a couple of family friends. We decided to come and check out this place. Am i glad that we did! Funkmeyers slays it when it comes to playing awesome jams from the 80s, 90s, and some current tunes throughout the night. The set up is to resemble an old school vibe which is great for those who are looking for a fun relaxed environment. There are photos blasted all across the walls featuring great movies and scenes. Not to mention the lovely photo collage of iconic women in the Men's Bathroom. Sorry ladies I'm not too sure what the theme is inside y'alls bathroom but I'm sure it is a similar concept. There is a huge projector screen towards the back featuring the music videos alongside to the music. Perfect for someone who gets distracted easily aka me. Funkmeyers also features some arcade games you can play as well. This Rec Room makes a killer Red Beer so if you're a fan of these drinks this is the place to come to. I was pretty impressed with the drink specials as they were reasonable and not overpriced. The have a full bar and even feature food from tacoholics! Everyone alongside me was raving about them. It's neat to see two business joining forces to fight evil, well not evil but the battle against hungry stomachs. I am definitely looking forward coming back here when I'm back in town.

Yelp
Nostalgia overload. If you're a 90s kid, you'll love this place. Everything from the decor to the music reminds me of my childhood. They also have an assortment of arcade games (NFL Blitz, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, The Simpsons, pinball machines, etc.). These games will bring you back, complete with the frustration of the machines eating your quarters. They didn't play any new music, so that added to the experience. From what I remember hearing, they played Master P, R Kelly and Kid Rock. Funkmeyers seemed like it was divided into two parts: Tacoholics and the bar. With that said, we had two different servers. One strictly for food and the other strictly for drinks. We paid for our food right as we ordered and paid for our drinks at the end. It was a little confusing, especially when it came time to tip. Both servers were AMAZING. I ordered sirloin and chicken, street style tacos topped with chorizo and the nachos --it was delicious.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
Nice selection of free unlimited play arcade games. The drinks we tried were good, if a little pricey. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Desiree B.

Yelp
My Husband and I where so excited to check this place out. We arrive and my husband was denied entry cause he had a thick tank top on. Non offensive and black. Non offensive tattoos. But a female with a tank top or a tub top can enter. Never will recommend or try again.
google avatar

Cali N.

Yelp
Love this place. I visit El Paso about twice a year and I try to come here at least once every visit. Place is great for folks in their 30s and 40s as they play 80s and 90s hits. It's pretty much a Lepgendary Tipsy Tiger for the older crowd. However, it's a younger crowd than teddys flame room. Place gets packed Friday and Saturday nights.
google avatar

Jackie W.

Yelp
I'm loving this place! It's 5:00 on a Saturday old school Jams are playing and I'm kicking Ass on Mike Tyson's punch out. The bartender is funny and friendly and i wish it was late enough to dance. This place has a great atmosphere and the tacos are delicious. I here it picks up in the evening. I will definitely be back. Plus the hot guys on the wall in the bathroom. Yes please!
google avatar

Watchman K.

Yelp
Awesome dive bar that only play old school jams & had a variety of old school videos that play along with the music. Don't forget the variety of free back in the day arcade games: Packman, Mortal Combat & Street Fighter. This is for the 35 and older crowd.
google avatar

S J.

Yelp
Came to visit from Austin.. And honestly I give this bar a year before they close. Also if you are a female, the bartenders will probably skip you for over 20 minutes. I was waiting, bartender acknowledges me then her male friends walk into the bartender area and take beer. I just watched how unorganized it is. TABC will love this place. Also forget playing in their sorry arcade, they keep it too packed to even stand in one spot much less play games. Will not return. And I have worked in bars and restaurants so I think I know when stuff is out of wack. Kept seeing signs for tacoholics but it was too packed to even look for it.

Isaac L.

Yelp
Been going to this old place for years. But last Friday after leaving ale house to join my friend the rude bouncer made claims that I was drunk and said he wasn't letting me. Making accusations towards me when in fact I was sober was not only rude but uncalled for. Left a bad taste in my mouth being accused of such lies
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
The bartenders are awesome! But DJ Rudy is Rude! What happened to this place it used to be awesome?

Crystal M.

Yelp
Although we haven't gone in almost a year, we sure are missing this place! It has a great vibe and they play really good music. It's always a good time there. This will definitely be a spot we are going to first as soon as it is safe again.
google avatar

Maggie P.

Yelp
This place is great for family time! We had some Tacoholics tacos, while we enjoyed the music videos and some sports on the TV's. Mom and dad had a nice drink from the bar and the kids played games for free! This a great place that teens and parents can enjoy.
google avatar

Flo T.

Yelp
We heard that the kitchen had changed up, so we dropped by for lunch. Fantastic! Turns out that they have a chef in charge and you can taste it. New menu with lots of variety and some basics that are better than your momma makes. Wings, salads, flatbreads, and my personal favorite, the pulled pork Sammy - you can't do better on the east side (maybe not in town!). Final thought - desert. OMG I've never had a naughty root beer float like that one. The guy at the next table was telling us how fun it is at night, so I'm going back. Enjoy!
google avatar

Albert H.

Yelp
Perfect for Tacoholics before the club! And the sin vodka is very smooth; thank you very much
google avatar

Jose S.

Yelp
Funkmeyers is a great place, they have travia knight and host local comedians like Adam Dominguez. they have goo music and good food, though just like everywhere else when they get busy the service goes down and so you could find yourself waiting long periods for either food or drinks.
google avatar

Joel A.

Yelp
If you live or visit El Paso, you must know there's plenty of places to have a good time as an adult, food, adult beverages and listen to music. The most important feature of Funkmeyers is that is has all that in one place. What makes my experience with this place different to others must be the music and the service itself. Many places can play music and keep the customer entertained but Funkmeyers focuses on older style music. Which to my taste is different and unique to me what you get in other establishments. The bartenders and employees treat everyone fair and with respect and make you feel welcomed. The place is clean and also has great security for those that get out of hand. I definitely recommend giving this place an opportunity the next time you want to get away for a night or two.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
For entertainment value, best bar I've ever been to. The entire bar is packed with classic and new arcade games, including games I didn't even know were on arcade, like the original Mario Brothers. You'll find other classics like Street Fighter, Galaga, Dr. Mario, and pinball machines. Best of all, they're free. Awesome business plan, knowing customers will spend more time there and therefore shell out more for drinks and food.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
God realllllly bad but the bartenders are cool. Honesty it was so loud at 8 but empty so it threw the atmosphere off. Waited 30 minutes in a pretty empty place for one slice of pizza. I left without the pizza because it never showed....
google avatar

Suzy G.

Yelp
I come here to listen to my 80s... probably the only music I know how to "dance" to. Always have a good time.
google avatar

Jasmin G.

Yelp
Tacoholics gets 5 stars but funkmeyer's gets 2. This place gets insanely packed to the point where it's uncomfortable. The not all the bartenders conduct themselves professionally *ahem* dudes I'm looking at you. FYI, women don't think it's cute to flirt with them when they're just trying to enjoy a night out. The crowd that surrounds the bar on weekends is just raunchy to put it nicely. The idea of a "barcade" on the east side seems great but it was executed poorly, it seems as though the bar's having an identity crisis...a lot of flash and no heart. Too bad.
google avatar

Ruben R.

Yelp
Good décor. My childhood as a theme for a bar. Went this past Friday after drinking at the Ale House and this place was packed. Not much room to dance but good 80-90's music. Two draw backs, the bathrooms are one person and the ventilation needs to be improved. It was packed and we were sweating like crazy. It reminded me of the clubs on the strip in Juarez.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
This is one of the best bars I have ever been to, especially in El Paso. Awesome music, games, vibe, food and great staff. Cannot wait to come back through here the next time a road trip brings us by, Funkmeyers is an absolute must-visit if you're in town.
google avatar

M Angie S.

Yelp
The best thing is the old school feel and the separation between the arcade area and the bar and the dining area. The only thing that is not intuitive is whether you seat yourself at first if you're here to eat. The Philly cheese steak is the best.
google avatar

Javier P.

Yelp
This place has a great atmosphere and great staff. The arcades will take you back in time. The drinks and awesome music will keep the party rocking!!
google avatar

Cris M.

Yelp
Tried this place on Friday. Wasn't impressed. First thing, it's small. Smaller than it should be. It's almost claustrophobic. Not much room to move around. Second, there aren't many games. There are maybe 10 games, pinball and video games combined. The play area is small. Third, it's not very clean. I leaned on the bar while ordering food and it was sticky. Finally, the food. The tacos are nothing special as far as taste goes. You can find much better just about anywhere in EP. The worst part was getting sick. Since eating those tacos, I spent the entire weekend in the bathroom. If I wasn't vomiting, I was dealing with diarrhea. Never going back.

Yelp
Honestly, the bartenders and management deserve five stars. What brings the place down is tacoholics. I happened to order some tacos the same night the investors of tacoholics were dining at the bar. The tacoholics staff couldn't bring out a plate of tacos within 30 minutes. Seriously, it's tacos... Shouldn't be in the weeds on a slow night with four tables and a couple seats at the bar. It's not like they were cooking the meat on order. The bar staff saved the day with a free round since the other half of the establishment couldn't keep up. Bottom line up front, come for the drinks and forget the food.

Yelp
I love the pinball and arcade games-- food is good and decently priced from Tacorexico-- could use a bit more variety- but overall it is a good place.

Yelp
I went on a Saturday night with some friends and it was so jam packed with people that you could practically smell/see the alcohol infused sweat evaporating and falling back down. The music was also way too loud. I could barely think let alone hear what my friends were saying. After five minutes, we signaled to each other to get the hell out of there!

Yelp
The place and the music are fantastic! Unfortunately the service and the drinks are horrendous! I order two long Iceland ice teas. They looked and tasted like dirty mop water! They also need to have some kind of order to get a table. People were literally fighting for tables!

Yelp
1st timer at Funkmeyers. Christina (bartender) very nice and attentive. Love the games. Brings back a flash from the past. Good selection of adult beverages.
